10k drinks [Merged]
I might be willing to spend the real cash to buy the gems to buy the presents/drinks, but I’ve NEVER been able to finish one of the timed jump puzzles (Mad King or Wintersday) so I’m pretty much locked out before I even start.
One day ANet might get the idea to have collections that require 10 things for the shiny but have 12 things in the set so we can skip 1-2 of them… They did so well having options for completing the hearts, and then went right back to exact and unavoidable requirements.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

You’re complain about grinding for COMESTICS. They’re entirely optional, and no one force you to do so. No one is going to crap on you for not having one. You won’t die without it. You choose to commit to the grind yourself, and even though ANet has been a kitten lately, don’t stab yourself and blame it on them.
Nobody forces you to raid in WoW, the gear treadmill is also OPTIONAL, as is EVERYTHING IN A GAME.
It never ceases to surprise me that people think this a remotely smart argument to make.
Soooo… basically if you’re a casual gamer and/or have something more to do the coming days you’re not getting the shoulders… that’s great, well done Anet
well, if they take away the collection sometime and you can’t complete it next year or the year after, THEN you have a complaint but as it looks.. you’ll be able to complete this collection at your own pace, even if it takes years (just remember, you can get a present a day from your home instance.. might take thousands of days but you could eventually pull it off).
As for the meta achievement, it looks like once again it’ll be easier to just do spvp if you still need any of the minis, only real loss then is the title, since I think you actually do need both the drink and food achievements to complete the meta, you won’t get the title as a casual.
Guys. Nightfury was hundreds of times worse than this. The ONLY costly part is the drinks. Just about every component of nightfury was costing in the hundreds of gold. And think about it- what kind of “special” item would it be if just about every player in the game could get it? You don’t HAVE to get it- heck, I don’t even really care about it because I don’t feel like having no shoulder skin.
You forget that this game is not getting enjoyable, and it’s getting contradictive of what anet have said! They promised us that we won’t need to grind like we grind in other games… But the reality is even worst, we have go HORD AND GRIND. There is not a single event or thing … that would let us enjoy content…
Why cant they give 50x win every event in wintersday, then you get your achievements done… why do we need 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 drinks?
I’m hardcore player, and i find this absurd due to one reason, there is a lot of enjoyable content in this wintersday holidays, and we should do events to accomplish achievements, not toasting 10.000 times where is the fun here?
This ONE achievement brought ABSURD BAD GAMING EXPERIENCE to literally every player that came to the point where he needed to get 10.000 junk drinks.
I’m sorry, this is just bad design team that decides what and how many things we need to acquire to get the desired item.. If you ask me they could remove 9900 drinks… keep 100 drinks in, and rise the event expectations to win.. from 3x > 50×.. and this would be a lot more enjoyable!
It kittenes me off that i was growing up with ArenaNet and now they became backstabbers.
EDIT:
There are things that are fun and awesome, mostly 95% of the content, and there is this 3% that we are ok with, and there is 2% that destroys every kind of gaming experience that was pleasant warm and fuzzy.. gone in a blink of an eye!…Ehm… ANet said that all of the grind should be OPTIONAL, not that there would be no grind at all. Heck, look at legendaries- those are a hell of a grind! You do not NEED the shoulder skin- while I agree that they could lower the amount there is literally NO point in having a cool skin if everyone else in the game can get it. When you feel something is an acceptable place in regards to grind:reward, the odds are a lot of other people will too- which then makes you no longer a special snowflake (literally, because everyone else will have the snowflakes too and yours won’t be special xP).
As someone who already made Bolt by myself with 80% of materials collected by myself, I would say it’s less grindy and more reasonable than 10000 presents/ 1000g in 3 weeks.
This reads quite differently now.

That reads like bad comedy now.

This post from 2012 makes me feel extremely sad.
Now every word the post makes any sense now. All of them are lies and contradiction now.
Look at the new Precursor system, and look at the Season reward we’re getting post HoT: Nightfury and Winter’s Embrace. All of those decisions are work against the concept of fun and only push the number of log-ins like all the subscription games.
Look at the linear design of all the Meta-Events and Fractal and Raid now.
I actually miss living story 1 very much , since it really makes me attach to game with fun thing to do more, and actually reward me for my effort.
(edited by Aomine.5012)
Jumping puzzle is also required to get winter’s presence. This is another unfortunate trend since HoT. Platforming seems to be an emphasis since HoT.
Honestly I don’t have the same aversion to JPs you do and think adding skill requirements is OK. The item could of been entirely skill based and I would’ve accepted it even if it meant I lost our on it. My issue is the insane amount of gold sinks thrown into every part of the game.
I’m not dismissing your hatred of jumping puzzles I just didn’t think represented a threat to the game like these sinks do. Fractal encryptions even require gold to open, it’s everywhere.
I think the JP thing was to point out that HoT has started a new direction in general for this game. You don’t like the grind/cost. A lot don’t like the JP requirements in general. JPs are now a part of the new direction and people don’t like that either. Platformers have been disappearing from the gaming scene. No idea why GW2 wants to bring them back. Along with tired mmo models like raids and mass grouped content, and insane grinding(like most of those in f2p mmos which this isn’t supposed to be?).
Wintersday is a great representation of GW2 – Post HoT
JPs were always there, and they require nothing. it’s easy to do. Wintersday JP was already there last season, so this is not rly a HoT direction. But what i have issues with is stacking same thing… what.. 10.000 times? srsly? absurd
The number should’ve been the average amount that could be gathered from playing every day for the entire event.
No it shouldn’t.
i wonder if op has been around for past festivals where the achievements were actually as grindy as he is suggesting they should be and if he remembers the grindyness complaints.
I am, and i’m posting this because i’m tired of same bullkitten destroying the gaming experience of enjoyable content that could be very awesome and interesting. But no, lets destroy it with 10.000 drinks. There is just this one thing that destroys every thing.
I don’t see the problem. Gw1 has achievements like this. And it seems they will be available after wintersday. Just play the game and enjoy it. No need to grind. Yes 10k is a lot but they will come in time.

And those grindy ap does not tied to any skin at all back then.

As stated this is not really HoT related.
Second locking titles, and other cosmetic behind long tasks, especially consuming holiday items is something they have always done. It is just the first time in gw2. It was all over gw1 and still accepted.
As it seems the collection isn’t going anywhere. And as Arena Net is famous for. Next year will be a other chance to get the drinks. Or buy the gifts way later in the year for cheap and get the drinks.
Gw2 has always had the problem of no prestige factor with cosmetics. Dungeon armor, everyone had, mystic forge skins no one cared for, fractal skins were not very good. Legendries’ I am assuming 75% of players bought them.
So then came the Halloween skins you could earn by RNG, the first year ones. They cost more than most legendary weapons on the TP. And so on.
Now we come to the current. Where we have a mystic forge recipe that costs a lot of gold, and is also more costly than more legendary weapons.
People complained about the RNG.
Now we have a collection for the next prestige skin, 80% of it is is doing the holiday events and making a few easy mystic forge items. The rest is drinking consumables that you get for just playing.
These skins are suppose to take time to give prestige. I have only seen two people with nightfury, and one with the snow one.
This is good, it adds what the game needs. Just my two cents. I know people will complain about needing to grind for something they want for free or cheap. But it is what it is, and remember it is an optional thing to do. If you want it, commit to it.

If you want prestige, work for hellfire Armor like I did (30k AP).
Work for HOPE/ASTRALLIA/ NEVERMORE to keep your prestige. (Not many can afford it, it’s more tedious than Winter’s Embrace)
We don’t need every supposedly festival that has nothing new for years, and only has minor rewards gating behind grindfest or gold wall.
Seriously, this game doesn’t need 0.0001% happy customer and 99% angry customers.
This game need to make 99% customers happy instead. It does way more harm than good to kitten up 99% of player-base with this type of kitten every single events.
(edited by Aomine.5012)
Having a happy veteran player base is better as they will convince others to play who will be more loyal. 99% if the player base is not unhappy, just those willing to go to the forums. Gw1 had a bunch of things like this.
The problem with the three new legendary weapons is they just aren’t good. They aren’t eternity status for wow factor.
Hellfire, is locked away in achievement points, but hey that is something so I agree.

This would be so much more in line with the GW2 I knew and loved.
While most of you is complaining about this, I’m gladly selling the drinks i get, making more money than ever, and buying items from the gemstore without spending a dollar.
So please no, don’t change it!!!
just remember, you can get a present a day from your home instance.. might take thousands of days but you could eventually pull it off
True, but 35 years seems somewhat onerous, and I’ll probably be playing Guild Wars 7 by then.
We want a dev response! We want a dev response! Or how does the chant go?

Yeah sure, no problem if i had 24/7 every day time, but this is time gated with winters day that’s the biggest issue..
I do believe that 5k would be a reasonable change to this achievement – 10k is way over the top.
I must say I am not impressed by the total amount of beverages needed. To be able to get this I will either have to farm gold, farm presents or not bother and be able to enjoy this time not grinding my eyeballs off.
5k would have been a lot but at least manageable as you can expect to have got or opened a few thousand winters day presents over the duration of the festival.
We want a dev response! We want a dev response! Or how does the chant go?
Maybe if we ask for a response 10k times we will get one

Has it really changed though from what he said? At least in terms of cosmetics?
Fun impacts loot collection. The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than other items, so you don’t need them to be the best. The rarest items have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of accomplishment, but it’s not required to play the game. We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.
It seems he never understood the part where “optional” doesn’t feel optional if “rarest items with unique looks” are what the majority of your goals in the game come down to.
And it was always somewhat awkward reasoning:
Fun impacts decisions. Every time you finish a dungeon you get tokens you can trade in for reward items that you want, rather than having a small chance of getting it as a drop, because it’s more fun to always get rewarded for finishing with something you want to have!
“Rare items with unique looks to help sense of accomplishment.”
“Every time you finish, you get tokens so you can get reward items you want, rather than having a small chance at a drop because it’s more fun to always get rewarded.”
People want the rewards, not a token. A token isn’t a reward if you need 500 of them to get an item.
QUESTION: do we have to finish 10k drinks by end of Wintersday, or do we get all year to try and finish it?
We need a title for this. There’s one in GW1 for drinking 10k points worth of booze! Where’s our “Incorrigible Ale-Hound” Title? =O
We have to look into a mirror, say Poobadoo 3 times (and by 3, I mean, 3 thousand) and Anet will appear.
Don’t bother, ANET will be selling the shoulders in a couple of months on the AH for next to nothing.
All of your efforts will be wasted, that is the ArenaNet motto.
Don’t bother.
ArenaNet will be selling the shoulders for next to nothing on the AH very soon. All of your work and grinding for this cool and “UNIQUE” item will be wasted by a kid with daddy’s credit card.
ANET at it’s best left the gaming community years ago. All that is left are hacks and greed.
well, if they take away the collection sometime and you can’t complete it next year or the year after, THEN you have a complaint but as it looks.. you’ll be able to complete this collection at your own pace, even if it takes years (just remember, you can get a present a day from your home instance.. might take thousands of days but you could eventually pull it off).
Unless Anet explicitly tells us otherwise, there’s no reason to assume the drinking title/achievement/Masterful Toast will be available next year, other than wishful thinking. There just isn’t a strong historical precedent to back that up.
Don’t bother.
Anet will be selling the shoulders on the AH for next to nothing after everyone has spent their last gold on getting the achievement.
I dare them to deny it.

When have they done that in the past?
They’ve done this sort of thing for a long time now, dating back to Guild Wars 1. For whatever reason they want some holiday rewards to be out of the reach of most people and since its baked into their reward philosophy then asking for a change is wasting time.
Wintersday 2007: Mini Polar Bear. Drop rate chance from Wintersday Chest is 0.02%. Wintersday Grab Bag, maybe 0.2% (if I remember correctly you could get 2 Grab Bags per account per year)
By Mini Polar Bear standards of access, they are handing out these shoulders to everyone who wants one.
You are forgetting that Mini Polar Bear was considered to have outrageously low drop rate by GW1 standarts. Though i agree that it was the first sign of the bad times to come.
And where did you get the notion I was forgetting anything? I didn’t discuss the players reactions to the mini in that post. I’m only pointed out that having holiday rewards restricted to a few is something they’ve been doing for years and that its part of their reward system and not likely to change.
ANet may give it to you.
10k is just to much for something i would only use around xmis and it would take me until the end of the month any way so yea .. time to just sell the gifts so so

They probably won’t take away the collection, but the drinking achievement will be archived after Wintersday concludes, so if you haven’t consumed all ten thousand drinks before then you’ll be missing at least one item in the collection until at least next year, assuming the achievement is both restored and not reset for Wintersday 2016.
So no, it’s not at your own pace. We have two (maybe four) weeks to complete this collection.
And it seems they will be available after wintersday.
Seems or confirmed? Two very different things right there.
Just saying for those who don’t read posts: it’s not a rant post. It’s just ridiculous and hilarious that this is the state of things right now. I’m just looking at all these “10k drinks?! Oh my god!” and all I can think about is “Drinks are destroying the game / community / tearing me apart, Lisa” and I can’t stop finding this funny. Can you even imagine that? Like, picture it in your head after taking a step back. They put drinks in the game, and the drinks are making everyone mad. It’s like we’ve drank too much already and we’re gonna wake up after Wintersday with a giant hangover.
I did all the Other acheivements today and grinded out the jp for about an hour or two and got 1000 drinks done. This should take 10 days min if it’s done casually, maybe 20 if you only have an hour a day. No worries everyone
Also when does winters day end? I’m hopping it lasts a month so I can miss a day of farming the drinks, but if not its still doable.
I’d also like to say I’m happy with how Anet is doing events. Some people won’t get everything, that’s what makes it special

I wish they’d let you do it anytime. I sadly have alot id rather do than just grind out things on guild wars lol
The event following Wintersday should be a trip to a casino, and someone get left on the roof.
How does this has anything related to Heart of Thorn? Why do you feel the need to post this in the HoT section?
Also it’s optional grind dude, you know if you cant handle it then dont go for it. Plenty others will suck it up and get it eventually, if you can’t. Well except that you just not going to get it.
HoT is new content, shoulders are new, HoT is for all practical purposes gw2 now. Makes sense to me.
It actually fits well with the GW1 Drunkard line…post change that is. Pre-change in GW1 you would end up consuming over 100,000 beverages for the 10k title, mainly because you had to be T3-5 on drunk to get 1 point per minute, meaning more drinks required to spend 10,000 minutes (literal minutes) drunk. The Sweet Tooth title for GW2, is much more forgiving as it too required 10k to achieve max title.
wouldnt be so bad if I could actually get into the jumping puzzle to earn some chests :-/, keep getting bounced out when i try to enter the instance, tells me the world is full constantly
That many drinks is gonna be some work, no doubt. Maybe Anet can add a chef’s recipe for a couple of the wintersday drinks?
Zombie | God | For the Pass!

I’d think that 10,000 drinks would be grind by anyone’s definition. lol
Nope! Not mad at all.
Challenge accepted!
So far whilst happily doing all the achievements I’ve racked up almost 600 drinks out of the 10k. It is a daunting number and realistically by means of playing without intention of racking up gifts for the drinks inside – I can see that it simply won’t happen in such a short span.
You would have to no life winters day activities like a mad man to get THAT many drinks, for free.
Looks like the rest will have to be bought. Hope the prices decrease with influx of required items.
Assuming each gift drops one drink (stats point to ~0.9 so this is likely an overestimate), you would have to get at least 1000 gifts.
The JP gives 10 per successful run.
Getting 1000 from the JP in two hours implies you found a way to cheat and finish it over eight times per minute, or 7.5 seconds per run.
You are a liar.
Agreed. I play 1 or two hours a day if I’m lucky and I just did my dailies and worked on the festival achievements. Got just under 1k drinks, so yeah, 10 more days and I should be there.
I also like that not everyone will put in the time to get it. I don’t raid, so there are items I’ll miss out on, but this one I can earn, even with carpal tunnel and a busy schedule.
