A foolproof way to make us happy.
You other races are just jealous of us sylvari, too bad you will never be tasked with anything so glorious as are those of us on a wyld hunt.
i main sylvari and i hate trahearne
Crystal Desert
Weed ’em out, whack ’em, and lettuce be the hero of our story

Dragonbrand
I also main sylvary, and a nice salad in trahearne style would be nice.
I’d prefer him exorsicised from the story, a one-off lynching doesn’t seem enough.
But on that note:

No, I do like Trahearne. It’s sad that I actually have to clarify that I’m not trolling people when I say that. These forums are a warzone though, so what can you do.

That would be awesome! I would buy 10 more character slots just so I could kill him that many more times per day during the event
Don’t speak as if for all of us. I won’t get happy untill they achieve a proper wvw endgame with real worthwhile rewards. Couldn’t care less about Trehearne/the story line/pve/new events etc.
As it looks now, I probably won’t get happy with this game.
Just because he lead us all to victory against the undead menace and all you got was a pat on the back. You want your name spoken of in Tyrian history, but instead it is Trehearne whose name will be remembered. In fact I think the OP is right, we need an event where we can lynch Trehearne repeatedly for taking all the glory for our hard work.
I want to club trahearne to death with the severed head of Logan Thackeray. Pwetty please with a cherry on top?
loads a shotgun
i want this money, if i hack this game and kill him send me all gold you have
(JOKE)

This. So much this. I wanna put Logan’s head on a pike and beat Trahearne with it.
Please merciful lord. Grant me this one wish so that I might wrong all the evils done to the player base of GW2.
I like Trahearne. I’m not trolling.
I like him, too. I can understand why he’s not everybody’s cup of tea, but the calls for his death (and Logan’s, and Kormir’s) are a bit much.
It’s not that I hate Trahearne…. I just dislike his voice acting as it irritates the heck out of me :p
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
I dislike him too got reminded yesterday when playing the mission to rescue priory explorers in a cave over run by undead. He goes on about how he is going to save the day with a extremely difficult task (create a bunch of flesh golems) that is “well within my power”
arrogant kitten
I don’t like Logan. Shall I start a “Kill Logan” thread?
Personally, I don’t have a strong opinion on Trahearne. He’s OK, as far as vegetables go. He ain’t no Rytlock Brimstone, mind you, all macho, with a flaming sword.
Bring back Tybalt and kill off Trahearne. He was a useless support character. Every time he was in my party he would just stand still and watch the entire group get slaughtered. I labeled him as a traitor when he constantly stood still in an enemy group and neither him nor the enemies were attacking each other. He was just standing there, watching you asking “Do you need something?”
“Hey, Trahearne, I’m hungry. Let’s get something to eat.”
“Very well, Commander. Orrian cuisine was once renowned across the whole of Tyria. Now, there is only Zhaitan’s all-consuming hunger.”
“Uh… right. I’m just going to get a taco here. You want one?”
“This is a taco stand.”
“…Yeah. Yeah, it’s a taco stand. Thanks for pointing that out. So… you want a taco?”
“It is well within my considerable ability to partake of tacos, Commander…”
“Right, so, is that a yes, or?…”
“…but should I eat one? Is it really appropriate for me to be snacking when the fate of Orr—the fate of Tyria itself--rests upon my shoulders?”
“Dude. It’s just a taco.”
“Very well, Commander. I will defer to your judgment in this matter and partake of the taco.”
“Great! Two tacos, if you please, oh hirsute vendor of tacos.”
“Careful, Commander. I detect lettuce in these tacos.”
“…Yeah, Trey. Thanks for the warning. Uh. Lettuce in a taco. I wouldn’t have seen that coming.”
“If I eat this… am I not a cannibal? A monster? Am I becoming the very thing I hate?”
“…”
Honestly, I like the character concept of Trahaerne.
How he’s written, though, is… well, let’s just call it uneven, and leave it at that.

I think people don’t like Traehearne because our epic story of small beginnings to grand standing is hyjacked by this firstborne (aka privileged) book-learner who apparently doesn’t know what a shirt is because he never wears one…. Our character isn’t so much a focal hero as much as a glorified sidekick that does all the heavy lifting, yet Traehearne gets all the praise. Also, he gets a legendary item for putting in little effort into the game? WTFZORS?!!!?!
We’re like the cat sidekick from Hong Kong Phoey.

I don’t think this is a problem with Trahearne, or even the arc itself, but rather in how it’s delivered.
Trahaerne is a solid vehicle for accommodating all that needed to unfold in the story. And putting the PC in the effective role of Kingmaker—as the power behind the throne—wasn’t a bad idea at all.
But it was a dynamic that needed to be executed artfully, so as not to diminish the PC, and in some of the story installments it just… wasn’t pulled off.

A dull voice acted, and poorly written character is hardly ever a good idea.

This is awesome ^.^
Although I understand the necessity of Trahearne (we can’t be written into the history books because then who is the hero? you, me, any number of other players?)… I suppose the “history” could solely be tied to our story and be individualized.. but perhaps that’s not the direction they want to take.. But yea, they probably could have had his dialogue be a little different so as to make the player feel less like they were the unknown sidekick and more the unknown hero.
There’s no need to be jelly of Caladbolg (his sword), I used it once and its worse than some of the experiemental asura rifles out there.
A dull voice acted, and poorly written character is hardly ever a good idea.
That’s a problem with the execution of the idea. The idea itself I don’t think was a bad one; I see him basically as a plot device designed to guide the PC through the epic process of forming an army and leading it to war. Setting the PC up as king-maker (to borrow Hydrophidian’s phrase), rather than the actual king, allows significantly more flexibility to the player in terms of how they want to interpret events for their character. And there were numerous allusions in the course of the story to that being the intent, but they were not executed consistently or effectively. I often got the sense that missions were being written by different people who weren’t on the same page (no pun intended), or even in communication with each other. I also, at various points, found myself longing for an author who was less of a storyteller in the ‘author’ sense and more of a storyteller in the ‘gamemaster’ sense. If I had run some of those mission scenarios for a group, my players would probably have revolted or quit.
“Worshipping nonsense and imagination” — Hayden Herrera (paraphrased)
I have no trouble with Trahearne. He has the Pact to manage and all that ego of the three Orders to juggle. I don’t envy him that.
However, I would scrape together gems for a chance at taking out every single member of Destiny’s Edge even if it’s just a sparring match.
It could be worse, the people behind balance changes could be leading the Pact against Zhaitan.
If that was the case we would currently be invading Divinitys reach using pies as weapons.
hmm maybe we will get to see him go off to aid in the fight against the next dragon succumb to it and have to fight him in the end
Kinda like they did with Rurik except we were upset when Rurik died.
I don’t think i’ve ever heard a more lack-lustre ‘To Victory!’ in my entire life. It’s his voice that grates the most tbh.
DAT foreshadowing in the story mode (the pale tree instance) when he gets the Great sword (in Orr) ruined it for me. i think it was the first time in a game where i said to myself and in chat “i know where this is going”, and actually predicted my character’s bump to sidekick.
he should have died, and not Apatia or Mirra/Mira (from Claw Island)
i would have been happier if the story instances were group missions, like most of the story ones (if not, all) in Guild Wars 1 + Expansions. i did not feel epic because i had nobody to join me in my story, so i zerged through it, and was left disappointed. it would have been more epic to see other characters doing the story too, cause a small group of low-armored NPCs just don’t make things epic when they are downed faster than me.

It’s like Kormir all over again – at least he didn’t break the world to begin with, I guess?
i have been doing the story with my female norn warrior.
the custscenes between her (dire hillbilly accent) and Trahearne (tri-Hern…oh dear, yawn)
are excruciatingly painful to experience, yet during combat i fail to notice him at all.
worse yet, after combat i keep getting surprised and woefully reminded of his existence as he stalks me…
I don’t dislike Trahearne enough to want him to die, but I do hope that he’s too detained with administrative duties in Orr to take an active role in future expansions.
I don’t mind him existing if he’s not following me around all the time.
I like Trahearne. I’m not trolling.

Kormir deserves it. Logan just deserves to be slapped silly, and Trahearne mostly just needs a week of dinner at Hooters, bro’s been stuck in Orr for his entire life.

i thought my character is going to be the one saving the tyria.
really.
lol, I saw someone put this up in their blog. I thought it was hilarious.
I hate him since his character lacks any dynamism that makes him memorable. See now with characteres like tybalt, sieren, (i don’t know the vigil partner yet. haven’t reached that level yet), now those guys were memorable, lovable, funny, round, and you can actually see life in their voice delivery. Trahearne is akin to listening to a broken record over and over again. I’m actually hoping he’ll be made out into an antagonist in the future (kinda like the white mantle/shining blade thing, that was pretty nice).
That said, I used to hate Logan and the rest of DE for being too whiny, but after doing a number of story mode dungeons, I kinda understand where each character is coming from and the weight they’re carrying on their shoulders. At that point, I started to pitty and feel sad for Logan.
lol, they can even make the “Kill Trehearne” mission only buyable from the gem store and I’ll still buy it.

I don’t know what problem you all have with Trahearne or Logan. I have no problem with them nor do I dislike them.
I play a support/heals mesmer. I’ve always veered towards tanking or heals. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, there are two types of mmo’ers.
The selfish, rock star dps, who demands the spotlight, and the tanks/heals who really keep the ship afloat. If dps is the lead guitar, then tanks are the drummers, who set the pace, and heals are the bass, who hold down the line and keep it going.
Point being that I highly suspect that all the Traherne haters are rock star dps types, and they so hate sharing the spotlight. They so hate that anyone but them could save the world, and that in fact it takes actual cooperation and unity in order to dominate.
Eat rocks dps, cry me a river. Be ressing you soon.
Totally agree, the NPC is just pitiful, everything about trahearne screams annoying
i thought my character is going to be the one saving the tyria.
really.
The story is about ALL races coming together to cooperate. Each dungeon is about reunitining Divinity’s Blade. Personal Stories not only focus on all races working together, but the three factions as well. Priory, Whispers, and Vigil all have to work together to dominate. Your toon is the one that unites the factions. Your toon is the true power behind the puppet general. Don’t you guys know how poilitics really work?
Tre is the public face, the puppet, even though he never wanted it. He can’t make a move without Your input. You are still the true power, but uniting all the races and factions is the number one priority, so any action made by you or him that would conteract that simply won’t exsist.

I was a tank in WoW from Vanilla, through to sunwell, all the way to Heroic Deathwing when I quit WoW. Tanks have always been the superstars, all the attention is on us, we are the focal point of the entire run. We set the pace. I have no idea where you get this nonsense about DPS being rockstars. Nobody remembers the DPS… everyone remembers the tank. And that’s the way I liked it.

I played 90% of the time as a healer in other MMOs, yet I still can’t seem to relate even remotely to Traherne. You meet him, your mentor dies, you’re stuck with him without being able to choose anything. I felt like he popped out of nowhere to replace my mentor, who had to die in order to create a dramatic feel.
So yeah, I’d definitely kill him if I could.
Then GW2 is either not a game, or made by you.
Well, nobody knows how to kill better than a doctor they always say. ;P
