I don’t think jumping puzzles should count toward map completion. There are to many people who get physically sick trying to do jumping puzzles.

I also post on guildwars2guru.

There’s only one jumping puzzle that’s part of map completion. It does suck if you actually get physically sick from it (and I can sympathize as closely confined ones, like Troll’s End, make me feel nauseated). But almost all of the vistas are quick and don’t operate as the jumping puzzles in the game do.

Edit: Two jumping puzzles. Forgot about the one Dante mentioned. So yeah. Vizier’s Tower and Breached Wall.

Eh? The only jumping that i can think of that counts toward map completion is the remains of the great wall in Diessa Plateau, which has a skill point and vista at the end.

If you mean the different explorer title things. Kryta Explorer, maguuma Explorer, Ascalon explorer, sorry but it should, its gained from exploring and Jumping puzzles are exploration after all

While I agree that almost all JPs suck (mostly because of how bad the camera in this game is) you can always ask a Mesmer to do it for you if you have trouble doing it yourself.

Well, we do not know what constitute a jp in the op point of view

vizier tower is pretty long and boring, but I dont know if the op thinks this is an jp

There is also that one vista in Dredgehaunt Cliffs that is more or less a jumping puzzle.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.

Surprisingly I didn’t find many of them to bad, but the worst one is by far the Silverwastes JP. By far the worst and hardest JP in the game, to make make it even worse almost all of the golden lost badges are located in there. The challenge was interesting enough, but never again. I can’t imagine how much gold I must have wasted porting back to a WP to try over.

That JP isn’t hard; it’s just really long. Now, some of those badges are horrible and the person who designed that one where you jump on the rope and then along the wall, back behind the waypoint, will be getting a box of coal for Christmas this year.

It’s not a matter of not liking them, it’s a matter of not being raised on jumping games and being old. I laughed hysterically when I see extreme JPs. The ones needed for completion are relatively easy to do once you figure out the path, except that one jump on Vizier’s, but it’s not moving platforms or things attacking you.

When you are doing the jp you are given free rez by skritt, you also talk to the young skritt and get taken to your choice (3 away 2 away or 1 checkpoint away) of location from where you died you pay the fee once and that is it.

That one as well as the one where you had to jump onto the net while going through the ramps and jumping on the single logs. Half of them seemed to glitchy that you couldn’t be sure what the hit boxes were because the part you were standing on was so small.

My biggest fear for HoT is that the maps will require extensive jumping. I hate jumping puzzles. If the new maps cannot be explored by people who hate jumping then they are eliminating a portion of their player base from the game. I am an older player with arthritis, but I am financially secure. I am probably in the top 10% of players when it comes to spending real money on this game. I don’t think my demographic is one they should try to exclude.

I did not like the zephirite skills. Timed skills can be difficult when your fingers aren’t as nimble as they were 50 years ago. I only completed the first story on one of my characters. I ran other characters in with the minimum requirement for jumping.

It’s not so much hating, it’s more that it makes me physically ill to do some of the puzzles and vistas. The camera motion (not camera shake. I already turned that off ages ago.) and the way it zooms in and out at certain spots, causes severe motion sickness.

For now the only JP that made me angry was atherblade one in this area just north of Lion’s Arch (not sure if it is infamous atherblade JP that is often sold by the most helpfull and friendlies of communities). It don’t have any reasonable spawns points and very little return points → only one near the end , otherwise you start from beggining, or WP. Also don’t help that Aetherblade are annoying cheaters (i would love so much condi stacking as veterans there available, or being able to knockdown every 5-6 seconds).

And i was much more angry when i had to do WvW maps for explorer → 3 this same map when you can be killed by some roamers, or pushed away by these annoying rangers.

There’s 2 problems with jumping puzzles:

1. Some of them are needed for map completion
2. The achievement for doing them doesn’t mean anything because most of the people do them with mesmer portals

No reason at all to remove them from the game though since many people still enjoy them

I enjoy jumping puzzles, though to be fair, I grew up playing things like NES Mario, so the ‘Nintendo Hard’ aspect of many of them has some slight ability to amuse me.

That said, I don’t play this game and will never play this game for its enjoyability as a platformer. I’ve got far better games of that variety that I play when I want that to play, and this will never be one of them. It’s incapable of being. It wasn’t built to be a good platforming game.

Much like PvP, wherein I vastly prefer my fps and RTS games, I tend not to bother with jumping puzzles either.

I don’t really care about the rewards – I’m not going to spend my playtime doing things I am not enjoying.

I think MMO’s still try way too hard to be too many things for too many people, and are mediocre at them (at best) accordingly.

I really, really wish that mmo studios would either focus on a specific mode of okay and do it well or point up the resources do genuinely do several modes well.

Here, it’s much the same as everywhere else in being the worst of all merged worlds – none of the tools and resources, balances or even designs of classes and powers are focused on serving one game mode well.

Instead, they’re not focused at all and serve all game misses with equal mediocrity in an engine that was not designed to be capable of competing with a good Mario game let alone anything like super meat boy and all with a camera that’s one-size fits-all, provided you don’t pay any attention and can be satisfied that there’s a moveable dolly at all.

Ahh well. Enjoy what you can, ignore the rest as best we may, eh?

I too also passionately hate jumping puzzles. I am simply too old and my twitch skills too slow for them. I want in this club, in fact I’m so much in this club I haven’t logged in for months now. I too grew up on Mario type games but learned to hate them after playing newer games and never wanted to go back. And to all who say “quit then” I agree, I think I shall do just that.

Been with this game since GW1 started, and in the GW2 beta, but now, no I don’t believe its for me anymore, long boring too difficult boss fights that have no reason to be so, not enough solo able content anymore and then these hideous jumping puzzles I hate with a passion. Me and my husband are both moving on to other games after all these years. Call it “creative differences” if you will, I hope the game continues and will be around for a long time, but it just isn’t for us anymore.

Ive hated jumping puzzles since launch, only reason I even have over half of them done is because of mesmers. If I wanted to play a platforming game Id have went and picked 1 of those up. Dont get me wrong having some small jumps/ledges is fine for combat purposes but something made solely to appease the platforming crowd (SAB) was just a complete annoyance.

Theyre an annoyance and serve as APs only. The only ones I ever even do are the ones in LA and trolls end is bout impossible on a charr/norn.

What good does a “club” do? Everyone still has to do the Vista’s that require some jumping (one way or another). It’s enough to say you don’t like it and move on as there is absolutely NO CHANCE they are going to change the current requirements.

Besides map completion, I see no reason to do JPs any longer. They were a easy and quick way to pick up one of the Monthly Achievements, but those days are gone.

Uhm…I think you are confusing jumping puzzles with jumping……

Mad King’s clock tower is a seasonal Jumping Puzzle. Not a dungeon or a fractal.

Very confused where you were going with that one.

If this thread is just anti-jumping, then this is a pretty ridiculous thread. I’m all for people not liking puzzles, with bad angles, thin areas you have to jump on, no checkpoints to speak of, etc. But people being against jumping in general? Please…..

Uncategorized fractal has you jump on platforms. That’s it. No puzzle, no possible way to confuse which direction you need to go. It’s literally jump from one platform to the next while fighting harpies. If that qualifies as a mini-jumping puzzle then I really don’t even know what to say.

Guess we need SAB Infantile mode rainbows to go over every area that a player might possibly have to use a space bar? Is this what we’ve been become?

Platform jumping are jump puzzles. You have to gauge distance and speed to make the jump properly. It can trigger motion sickness in many players. But it doesn’t happen to you so everyone else it does happen to is kittened. Am I doing it right?
