Earlier this year (during the pirate, dragon, and wind events for living story) I stopped playing. The semi-permanent grind release monthlies got old. Especially for nothing but AP, a backpiece skin, a mini or another lackluster reward. I came back when the talk of the new content that would be released every 2 weeks would be permanent and have everlasting effects on the world. I’ve been playing since but I find myself just as bored.

There is a serious lack of anything to do but grind for a legendary as level 80. With many dungeons still broken and unplayable most of the community only runs a very specific few dungeons that are the most rewarding/quickest. There are no new fractals so running that gets boring after awhile. DR has completely killed Orr. This and SSC could’ve been two of the coolest areas. Constant battles. Constant war. These are the only two level 80+ zones but because of such horrible DR the zones are empty and relatively unused except for temple runs. The new TA path is great, but how many releases have we had and how long have we been promised dungeons would be revamped and fixed and nothing? I would’ve much rather seen a complete revamp to a dungeon(s) than 1 single new path. AC has stood alone as the only dungeon revamped. Since the revamp people do it constantly! Yet A-Net doesn’t bother to look at this. Scarlet attacks randomly ever few hours which no one bothers with, and then there’s the reworking of Teq. Broken with the mass majority of players who don’t even bother.

With so much lore and so many zones unopen from Crystal Desert, Ring of Fire, Greater Shiverpeak Mountains. Magumma Wastelands, etc why haven’t we seen a large scale opening of one of these areas with 2-3 new zones featuring either tons of new dynamic events (like SSC) or renown? Sadly with DR breaking dynamics I feel releasing any new zone until that is fixed will simply result in people checking out the new area for a month and then walking away.

Is anyone else just tired of the content being released? Does anyone else feel it’s simply regurgitated over and over with very little to actually do? Sure the artwork and thought is there and it’s beautiful but still lacking in content. The mass majority of people finish the achievement portion in 2-3 days?! One good 2-3 hour session and you can grind out most of the ap for every single release. Would anyone else finally like to see them NOT put something out for a month or two except with fixing bugs, balancing skills, and then release something worth wild for the community? Something not rushed, bugged out or broken only to be yanked two weeks later when something else comes in to replace it?

Often. Sometimes I log in and there is absolutely nothing I want to do, so I log out. I mean, there’s stuff to do. I don’t have dungeon master, I’m not high level in fractals, WvW is always going on… But sometimes none of it seems like fun.

My advice is to take a break. Maybe play a single player game.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

I love this game, invested well over +3K hours, +12k AP, made thousands of gold and 5 legendaries.

But I hit a wall about 3 weeks ago and just got bored. I’ve had bouts here and there where other games come out and I’d only commit about 45 minutes to GW2 for dailies.

But I really hit the wall and I can’t even log in to do my dailies.

I’m not gonna completely quit and uninstall GW2 – but my involvement with GW2 right now involves completing the LS achievements and finishing up WvW season 1 achievements. I’m afraid the next wall I’ll hit, I’ll ignore LS and probably just stop logging in. So instead of playing every day of the week for 4/5 hours a day, now I probably end up spending no more than 4 hours a week playing GW2.

The rest of my time is spent destroying noobs in BF4

My main complain was not boredom per se. It was more of a feeling of getting nowhere while playing. There was a lot of stuff i enjoyed. However, this game requires too much of a time investment for me to ever feel like I am progressing.

I just don’t have the time for legendaries or to get good at crafting. Even map completion would be too time consuming for me. I’ve had to let a lot of things go in this game. I don’t find that enjoyable.

Finally I get to exotic gear, and there’s ascended. I also still have 2 toons not level 80. I do like some of the living story stuff. “Unveiling the nightmare” was well done. I like them giving us a reason to visit an obscure area as well.

When too much of the game feels out of my reach I feel disinterested.

Many would agree, many wouldn’t. All I can say is that I’ve written/read posts exactly like this in every MMO I’ve played.

The fact you equate content to AP grind leads me to believe you aren’t really talking about boring content, but rather boring achievements to chase (which I would agree—but they are in fact optional). The new dungeons they’ve added certainly aren’t boring to me, nor is the entire concept of this Toxic tower thing. I find it actually pretty cool and completely reasonable for a 2-week content release.

I think 3-4 hours of sitting down grinding out the AP is more accurate for these releases, but considering that the majority of GW2 players don’t have or want the time to sit down for 3-4 hours, that 3-4 hours will likely be split up into 30min here, 15min there, and for most it actually spreads out pretty close to that 2-week mark (especially if you do PvP, WvW, dungeons, etc regularly). So much so that people actually complain that 2-weeks isn’t enough time to complete the achievements.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

Yeah, I’m feeling bored. Sure there’s ascended or legendary stuffs to go after but the only way to grind for those is grind random money. I’ve done most of the dungeons a fair bit, they’re still good but yeah, they’re getting old.

I started playing Guild Wars and found myself wishing I had that sort of stuff to work on.. specific challenges for outfitting heroes, vanquishing areas, hard modes of all kinds, titles, prestige gear. I’d love to have more specific activities to do, perhaps even more solo challenge type stuff.

I’m just tired from the random money grind to earn most everything aside from specific dungeon gear.

I’ve taken a few breaks from GW2, then I come back later and enjoy playing again. I don’t think it’s a bad thing, personally.

I’m also not sure ANet can do anything to fix it. What’s your MMO history? Have you been deeply involved with other MMOs in the past? I started my MMO journey I think 8.5 years ago with GW1, then moved onto WoW about a year later. I was a raider in BC, then did some raiding in WotLK as well as the first tier of Cata. I’ve dabbled in a whole slew of MMOs between WoW and now.

So what is the crux of the boredom issue? Is it that the formula is often the same in these games? You have a character, you hit max level, you cap your gear, and then what do you do? The mentality a lot of people have with MMOs is that they play in order to progress their character, not because they want to play the game. So what do you do when your character is done progressing? Some people just find more and more to do, but eventually they run out of reasons to play.

The main reason I play is because I want to play. The main reason I stop is often because something starts nagging/annoying me. It could be repeated WvW frustration (only zergs, no really fun fights), or balance annoyances (most of these I should just get over and work on out-playing, but they add weight to the scale), or something along those lines. Alternatively, some other new hotness might show up or resurge in popularity among my friends (like D3), and I take a GW2 break.

The great thing is that if you get bored, then stop for a while. When you want to play, come back. No sub is making it feel like a commitment, so you can dabble at your leisure.

That’s my attitude anyway. No MMO end-game ever has a “point”. You could do PvE raiding in a game with gear progression, but what’s the point? To farm gear so when they release more content you have the gear to participate? Is that healthy meaning for a game?

I do agree that some of the achievements have been on the grindy side, but on the flip side of that coin, you get the achievements by just playing the game, really. Sure, you’re doing the same thing over and over, but you’re still playing GW2. They could probably do with making LS elements more adventure-like and less “zerg around the same theme of events 100 times”, and that’s something I would totally support. However, I think there are interesting implications to thinking that the act of playing a video game is “grindy”.

I’m getting off topic, but this is one that holds some interest to me. Either way, I’m back in and very much enjoying playing again, so no, I’m not simply bored.

I’m getting to that point. It’s actually this lack of a ‘grind’ that’s making me bored.

We need more ways to progress our characters than just gear. More traits and skills, or a whole mechanic altogether that takes time. We got given everything too easily.

Hi

I am not bored, in fact, really excited about todays WvW reset as we will have a match against a close server. There will be some awesome fights to be had !!!

I think the O.P.s main problem is he/she is doing only solo PvE content. Even in PvE runing dungeons with a bunch of guildmates on VOIP is an entirely different experience then running same dungeons in a text based solo PUG mode.

Please note that this game is an MMORPG, large part and key to having fun here is being a part of the community. If all you ever do is PvE farm and solo stuff such as outdoor PvE boss grinding, then you will never enter the community, thus never have fun.

So at that time, I only logged for WvW + dailies then I got exhausted from WvW so I did almost pure PvE with minimal WvW

then I got bored of PVE so I tried sPvP and had a blast until I got r20 (I’m still going for tiger!)

Now I have a good mix of PvE, WvW and SPvP while trying for a legendary (only need precursor and runestones to go!)

Thanks for the suggestions all. I’ve played plenty of MMO’s in the past. I know sooner or later there are down points where we all take a break. I did the same with WoW before the 2nd expansion came out, same with GW1 before EotN. However, the difference is within barely a year people are hard line dropping out of the game because there is simply nothing to do.

@pdg don’t troll. This is A-Net’s problem, and a very serious problem at that. It’s community wide complaint that is growing larger daily and A-Net isn’t seeing it. Instead they’re continuing on this LS kick which most people could care less about. It’s mildly entertaining at best and the releases contain so little the new content is old before the release of the next content.

Other than WvW there is little to nothing to do. WvW requires you to be on a good server otherwise it’s incredibly frustrating. My entire guild moved because of this issue originally. I’m now on a fairly competitive server so I have some fun, but running with the zerg or roaming is only fun for so long. PvE, which is the largest portion of GW2 is dead for end game. It has been reduce to the same repetitive daily routine give or take what is going on with LS. Do dailies, hit some of monthly, run Cof and AC to make some gold, and then champ train or node farm for crafting ascended/legendary items which is the only thing to shoot for as level 80.

I have 4 level 80’s but I don’t consider myself hard core. Only 2 of them are truly close 100% geared up and I still don’t have a legendary even though I have enough mats to make two. Why? Because no Pre has ever dropped for me. I do not want to grind for months to make 500-800g. That is boring as crap to me. I refuse to pay for gems to buy gold. And this isn’t D3 I don’t want to “play” the AH to make gold. I want to play GW2 naturally and make money without repeating the same 3 things over and over and over again.

I think the biggest problem I have is things like dungeons and fractals have such potential to keep everyone interested if the paths were fixed. Since leveling scales unlike WoW this means hitting a low level dungeons doesn’t mean you’ll simply roll it even if you’re 100% geared. There are 8 dungeons and barely half of them are used. As I said before zones like Orr that could be a full on war are wasted. A-Net has pigeon-holed the entire game into doing 1 or 2 things which has gotten boring really fast.

Dungeons aren’t a problem, you can easily find a group for every dungeon apart from CM (because that’s just a pain in the face). Unless of course you want to go min-max your income which would end up with you doing the same thing over and over in any game.

The problem also isn’t them not releasing enough substantial content. We got enough content in th past year to construct several new dungeons and maybe a new exploitable area.

So what’s the problem you ask? They keep taking stuff away.

Eh. I lost my overall interest for it awhile ago. The content they’ve been releasing just hasn’t felt that engaging nor replayable, the gameplay’s still pretty straightforward, and the systems they’ve been introducing to encourage “longevity” do the opposite for me.

There have been and are more games out there with more of an “endgame” for me and GW2 isn’t one of them. Was kinda hoping it was.

Yes. Add a really in depth Housing / Home instance system to the game with plenty of collectables (trophies, achievement statues and items, crafting items, etc) The grind to get a legendary is huge, armor collection is pointless because you can simply buy a skin that you’re happy with and that’s game over in that department (with cash shop items giving absolutely zero satisfaction because you don’t actually have to play the game at all). So basically once you’ve bought your skins what exactly is there to do? I’m at a loss.

The most extensive housing system I’ve seen in a gane is RuneScape’s. There’s multiple types of rooms, you can build mini games, trophies, dungeons, portals, servants and basically everything you’d possibly want.

Yet no one gives a kitten about housing there even after countless updates and revamps to the extent the devs just gave up and decided the construction skill should be used for something else.

Honestly, I’m playing for almost a year now and I’m quite disappointed with the game.
It’s grindy and I hate grinding (*cough*TwelveSky2*cough*). At 80 all I have to do is dailies, dungeon runs, WvW if I’m in the mood to get my kitten kicked. I’ve alts to level, but after I completed map completion with my main, I lost interest in the maps since I saw the points of interests that were interesting to me. I found myself just standing in LA doing nothing. I’ve run dungeons a few hundred time, I’ve dungeon Master, it’s not fun anymore. I don’t care about Ascended or gear in general, not a big fan of this gear treadmill they will create, it’s not fun to do and with ascended they killed that part of the lore too, along with infusion. I don’t know what to do now. In the precessedor I collected armors and weapons, but with this RNG stuff(worst system I ever experienced in any MMO), I can’t do this. I did the PS so many times while lvling alt back then I’m sick of it and IMO it’s not that great as GW1’s. Choosing a faction or order means nothing, it’s not the game I thought it would be when I started playing. The LS is not interesting since I dislike zerging and grinding and it’s not really connected to GW lore or the world, the rewards are simply not worth it. The combat is good, but repetitive, since we don’t have much skills or skill chains and the dungeon stacking make it worse. I’m a big fan of GW(played the 1st one for 6-7 years, I even bought the Nightfall Collector’s Edition) but this one is a letdown to me, sorry Anet. I hope they will listen to ppl posting in the collaborative thread.

Forgot to mention PVP, not thanks, never was a fan, though I did Fort Aspenwood, Jade quarry and thing like that in GW1 because they were really fun and rewarding. It kept me busy for hours, they were really great. This PVP system is not quite appealing to me.

But the rest of the game is so bad, even if WvW is not that good, the rest is even worse.

1st April joke, when gw2 receives a “balance” update.

Housing will keep you busy for what? A few hours at most. Then back to the AMUSE ME bandwagon.

That’s completely up to the player. It will obviously keep you busy for a few hours, but you are not me thanks.

yes, thank goodness that is true.

That’s probably due to the fact that the game is full of 10 year olds that just want to be better than other 10 year olds. Therefore, they spend 90% of their time leveling, obtaining new gear, and improving skills. The other 10% is used for stuff like housing, guilds, and friends. I honestly don’t know what the devs were thinking when they implemented that… because I could smell failure from the beginning of its existence.

Only WvW interests me now, if GW2 didn’t have that, I would have stopped playing ages ago…

But if your bored, possibly suffering from burnout, play another game or do something else. I play loads of other games besides GW2. The games industry is ultra competitive with loads of games to choose from…

The b2p/f2p payment model does not work.

This dev team has amazing ideas and vision, but lacks the funding necessary to bring any of them to light. It’s really a crying shame…

That’s why you see Teso, WS, and FFXIV returning to sub models. The stuff that players want is just too expensive to do for free.

the game is boring in general. The music makes you sleep. The fights can’t be all soloed and as there is no one around it feels like a single player MMO. The Orr is too gloomy and dark and depressing. The zones are too large to run on foot, etc.

Someone mentioned Rift. Before I signed up to GW2 I went over to their site and looked on their forums. What I found there made the complaints in the GW2 forum look like a tea party at Buckingham Palace.

Grass is always greener and all that…
