Of all the MMO games I have played GW armor is ugly. No cool looking armor just to be cool looking. I do not know who designs the armor but why no cool swashbuckler style armor for light armor.. why is it all so ugly. I play a Female Ranger and armor is ugly no female style at all in the armor.. same with the male armor. I ultimately hate the looks of almost all the armor in GW.

There’s plenty of fancy looking armors in the game.

I think I’ve had the same armor models for about 40 levels. I don’t believe there are many assets when it comes to model variation in this game

there are plenty of swashbuckler styles. i don’t know if we’re even playing the same game

some ppl really needto look into finding out more info before posting. There is so many armour sets go and look before QQing.

I have seen very little but than I am only level 24 and I been locked out of game for over 2 weeks now due to my NC Soft Master account I have not used was hacked so they locked me out of GW2. I got my account back but the login has not been fixed for NC Soft so lost my game access even before I could login. But from what I saw was the same model and when I did some research the armors they show about 9 different ones for example for Ranger female human based on what faction and what armor level. And I found all 9 quite ugly and not very cool at all.

do those look bad to you? those are just some pics i got when i specifically searched for flame legion set.

of course your tastes may be different from mine but you really should look at more armors, both pve and pvp

I don’t think some of you have played it thoroughly enough…

There are a LOT of armour assets, more than GW1 had at launch by a mile. It might be worth going to PvP and checking the armour lockers, there you can preview what is everything I believe.

Now whether you still think they are ugly or not I don’t know.

There are lots of lvl 80 armor sets, but leveling up there are basically two armor graphics per profession. I absolutely loathe the charr leather armor, looks so stupid on my char ranger, I really regret rolling char, wont do it again. My char ranger looks like he is running around in a trench coat and top hat, really stupid.

I imagine that char heavy armor looks cool, but thats about it, I havent seen ANY charr medium armor that looks cool.

You clearly haven’t seen EQ2’s armor. They’re the pinnacle of ugly, not to mention plasticy. This is one of the few games where I like almost all of the armor and I’m damed picky.

Ugly is subjective, however I agree with the OP. Out of all the armor sets, there are only a few (really only about 3 mix and match set ups) I will bother with.

IMO, most of it is horrid looking and I can’t handle playing anything but humans or Asuran* because the starting armor looks so bad on the other races I find myself distracted and annoyed.

*I can handle the armor on Asuran cause they are so fun to watch as their heads throw them off balance when they move around.

The armor here actually reminds me of Age of Conan’s armor. Brown Bags for all… till later. In other words, ugliest garbage in the game… till later. I want to adventure IN good looking gear, not adventure THEN have it. By the time I have it here, it’s alt time. Backwards IMO… but then, I may be the only one to see it this way. /shrug

I’ve seen a lot of different armor models between 1 and 40. The problem is that they’re extremely similar in style. e.g. medium armor is like 10 different types of trenchcoat. You want something other than a trenchcoat? Have to wait until lv.60 or something.

I don’t get that. An art asset limitation, I could understand, but there’s lots of assets being used. They just stick way too closely to the same theme.

If the devs want players to be happy with armor appearances, the key is variety. Give players choices and they won’t complain about things like this. Force them to to stick with a certain look, and no matter how well done it is, it will be frustrating. Leveling up, getting new armor, and kittenmit, it’s another trenchcoat.

The “problem” with armour variety is that the majority of it is from crafting, karma or dungeons. If you want cool looking armour from random mob drops, it’s not going to happen.

The female medium armor are little underwhelming and you managed to show none of those as the OP was concerned. Luckily there are few decent looks for medium too as I play ranger as well, but there are so much more heavy and light looks that I like. But looks are very subjective matter and discussing about likes and dislikes becomes pointless fast if it becomes just pushing own views to others as a fact(I don’t mean you personally, but in general). As for pve and pvp armors, what I gathered from the pvp armor locker they seem like exactly the same, that’s where I checked all the armor looks for my character.

The medium dungeon armor set looks are so bland in my opinion that I have no interest of in any of them, and only couple weapons looked remotely interesting.

I think it’s a to small amount of different armors that you can buy from vendors. All is the same everywere. Not have super-awesome armor at the vendor but atleast make it so some areas got armorsmiths with a different looking armor. Not only the dungeons and karma-armor and cultural.

You havnt seen much armor im guessing,i thought the same when i was low lvl,but now..I cant stop looking at my char.Armors in this game are seriously awesome.

The Dredge armour is aweful. The dredge live underground and are blind, that explains the sets then lol.

Medium armors really are a bit underwhelming. This has already been addressed several times, but there are way too many trenchcoat styles. We need some variety.

there are quite a lot armor models if you care to look. Also, it is a matter of taste – no, the armors are not ugly, you consider them ugly.

Leatherworker can make some pretty cool stuff, too. I like trench coats, so again…it comes back to a matter of personal taste

Alright, I’m jelly. I’ve been eying the Protector set for a while now.

The availability of many different armor sets doesn’t change the fact that they do look ugly.
I’ve seen most of the armor, and I know ugliness is a matter of perspective, but really, the designs are just, off.

I liked the Masterwork heavy armor I was buying from the trading post while leveling, particularly after level 60. There’s also armor skins. You want glowy stuff like WoW?

The gigantic upper body and bird legs looks like it should be in WoW.

I only find the Medium Armor lacking, Everything is a huge coat. Theres hardly any leather chest pieces that just cover the chest instead of everything.

Meh at least it’s not the same armor reskinned over and over

I agree, especialy the lvl 80 armorsets can’t be more ugly, there is not one worth the farming, even the style of the starting equip beats them.

No kidding. Those ugly EQ2 graphics drove me out of the game in about 1 month.

My Asura ranger has been through about 3 different looks and is only level 31, and I loved each look. My Human thief is level 11 and I’m thinking about saving his current set and using it for the graphical template for higher level gear. It’s exactly as I envisioned him.

My female ranger has a wardrobe of like six different coats and six different leggings. Al look more or less nice.
The ones that she wears look quite feminine and i found those well before lvl80, transmuted several times to keep the look.

The only problem i have with some armors is that skirts/dresses are often to large/to wide/ bulging in the front as though the avatar is pregnant.

Idk I’m a male ranger and while most of the stuff I found isn’t that amazing there are definitely “swashbuckler” type of armors in the game. I’ve found Pirate hats, gloves, boots, pants at least. The coats are the main thing that I usually have a problem with since they are all trench coat style or at least have some kind of “butt cape” as some people call it.
Wouldn’t mind something without a long coat for something different.

I also agree with those comments on the leather/medium armor. It’s boring if you don’t like the trench coats. Almost no variety there.
There’s also the “Junk in the Trunk” factor with a lot of the armor. My skinny, yet muscular thief put on several sets of armor and suddenly gained a butt that would make J-Lo and Beyonce jealous. It’s laughable bad in some cases.

i hate the ranger armor ._. make it more reasonable at least but i do like the leather coat for lvl 35 rare but still they need to do some thing about the armor design there….

Are you kidding?! I have thousands of screenshots of AFK “girls” and not so AFK because the armor helps accentuate them. Heck, I even have some interesting guy pictures too (those were taken for a different reason obviously but a big Norn in pink armor is too picture worthy). The “girl” in the picture isn’t my character (I’m the Asura in blue), but you have to admit “she’s” drop dead gorgeous ^_^ I have a few more pictures like this too but “she’s” one of the best ones I’ve seen so far.

I like the skirts and dresses, they have a nice bloom to them that has a certain modesty to it that’s usually missing in these games ^_^ Yet at the same time they accentuate their features quite nicely so it isn’t crudely modest like burqas but more decently modest like an Elizabethan dress ^_^

There are also not so modest armor sets too, and there looks like something for everyone.
In fact, pretty “ladies” in this game are everywhere, but those kinds of topics don’t really go down well so I’ll stop here.

Actually the armors aren’t that great looking in this game. It’s why I run to my HoM so much to grab the skins all the time. The armors aren’t what I’d call ugly like the OP did but they are far from great as well.

Most of the sets doesn’t even look that good, certainly not worth the absurd grind.

My main wears medium armor and I agree.

I hate all the trench coats and fluffy hipped coats.

I like sleek looking outfits that are at least a little sexy.

I agree with the op. The art work in the game is so beautiful that it’s really hard to believe that most of the armor especially the weapons are just plain ugly…

Are you kidding me? The armor is great looking, one of the best in terms of mmos. What level are you?
