Bad attitude towards other nationalities
“everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice”
Article 19, Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Hope some of you get familiar with the right of freedom of speech.
It’s like telling a stranger in a cafe next to you to stop whispering to their friend, because you can’t understand it. It is just rude, nothing more.
Just as people are allowed to communicate freely about anything, in whatever language or form (provided it’s legal) in a restaurant, or square, or any other public area, so should you respect this right for people to speak in public chat.
Also iirc they’ve said english IS the language of the servers that don’t specify a language.
Didn’t know that about the RP-servers, however question is what is the best system for everyone, but yes it’s off-topic so let’s drop it.
To answer quote:
According to the links on page 2 in this thread, it’s quite the opposite really. There is no pure English server, but most people choose to speak English on servers with no tag.
Edit: See below.

You do not remember correctly:

All of the time I’ve been gaming it has been considered both polite and practical to have main channel chat in English on European (not designated another specific language) servers.
Why? Because the largest number of people can understand English in most European countries it is taught in schools, it is the most popular 2nd language. So it’s obvious that chat in English will be understood by the majority of players on a public channel. If there were 20 people having conversations in 10 languages on public chat the channel would be rendered useless.
Personally I have no problem with a guild advert in another language nor someone asking a question whisper is there for a reply or conversation. It’s the ones who use the public channel as their own private <insert random language here> conversation channel that yes I do have an issue with.
My OH, rl friends and the majority of guild members do not have English as a first language and all use English exclusively on public channels.
This rascist argument is relatively new and usually raised from the me generation who feel they shouldn’t have to consider anyone but me IMO.

Couldn’t resist this one:
So why isn’t it the “me” generation that is the one complaining that people speak a language they do not understand?
It ruins “my” game experience because something was said that “I” don’t understand.
Kinda seems to be the other way round.
Hi,
