My theory is that they wanted to nerf drops a bit, but decided to take the route of nerfing them to the ground temporarily so when they buff it back to somewhat-below-original values, the playerbase will either not notice the net drop, or be satisfied with the increased loot relative to the absolutely terrible rate we’re getting now.

Which is fine, “if they acknowledge it”, so that we may leave the game to rot and move onto better one’s; they’re not doing it and say that its only perceived nerf. I wonder if they even look at the existing stuff at all, instead of developing new content. I’m sure we all can wait for 6 months for new content so that the bugs are given priority and then we all can be happy about all new stuff. When new content takes priority over basic bugs, it’s irritating.

Bumping the thread. I find that the loot has gotten better. I now get more loot consisting of blues and greens. However the drop rate of rare items is still far less than it was before the 15 of November.

At the time of writing this i have farmed for 4 hours in Cursed Shore between Penitent and Shelters and have received only 4 rares.

I, as all of you do, hope this is a bug that they will fix shortly. At the very least i hope for an announcement either way.

Same here, I am getting more blues and greens along with the inevitable junk and salvage mats. I still don’t see the champs dropping 100% of the time (more like 5%), nor do I see rares as often as would be needed to make even a few ecto’s a day.

I have also quit playing this game, for about a week now. I will not play until I hear that this drop rate bug is fixed. If it never does than so long. I am not wasting all my money on stuff that costs 3-5x more than in normally does.

I’ve been leveling a low level character and finding it hard to get upgrades still. In the last 4 levels only picked up 1 item my character could use, but I already had a better one from trading post. This bug still exists, I don’t understand why it has not been attended to.

So yeah, they’re not sleeping, not on vacation or anything else; but basically ignoring this.

- I always hated MMO’s for being grindy. I have always been single player gaming guy and never played another MMO.
- GW2 gets advertised as non-grindy game. I read a lot about it and user reviews during BWE’s and buy the game.
- I play a couple of BWE’s and feel happy about my decision to buy.
- Game goes live and I start playing. Eventually I start reading about legendaries and find them quite attractive.
- Quite a lot of the players already started running around with a ton of gold and legendaries before the game was even a month old. Good for them, I feel a bit motivated to get one.
- Someone rants how a casual can’t have a legendary and they’ll always suck and should stick to lower end of the game. I get irritated and make getting a legendary my primary goal in the game.
- Nerfs inbound. They fixed Karma weapon exploit while people who exploited got their accounts back and no items actually taken from them. Godskull weapon exploit fixed, and people already benefited with the exploit are let go.
- DR inbound. Bots are still active and since they don’t really live, breath, go to work/school and spend their precious time on gaming it hardly affects them; meanwhile genuine players farming hit DR and get lesser rewards.
- More nerfs inbound along with bugged one-time events and pointless new content, with precursors given away to the lucky few who made it through the end of the whole event while many disconnected/couldn’t join the event due to first 2 phases being laggy and buggy and being unfortunate to be born and live in a different timezone.
- Dyes drop like porous bones, and they suddenly nerf it before any casual player noticed it, while hardcore players farmed them like crazy making ton of gold in the current market.
- Patch that’s supposed to improve loot in open world, infact decreases the rate to a pathetic level and new patches don’t help this issue either.

GW2 was basically promoted as the game that players can play the way they want, with no grind, and primarily a casual player-oriented game.

Play the way you want: You can’t – farm same events/same dungeons, request anything on forums, or raise your voice.
No grind – Exotic gear – grind; legendary weapon – let’s not talk about it even; dungeon gear – grind; ascended gear – grind; monthly achievements – grind
Casual friendly: Avg play time of casual player :- 3-4hrs a day (zero drops in that playtime); Avg play time of hardcore players:- practically whole day except when they don’t eat/sleep/take dumps etc (more gold made in a day than casual player)

I, like the others have noticed a severe problem of loot drops. I mainly noticed this because I just got my guardian to 60 and I didn’t have money to buy the trait manual. I never banked a penny with him. While on the other hand when I got my main to 60 when the game launched I didn’t have any problems (and then I usually salvaged every drop except rares because I didn’t know it was more profitable to sell greens and blues and only salvage white). It’s preposterous, I usually had one or two rare drops per dungeon run before the 15th, now I get one, yes and no every 4 or 5 runs.
It’s not enough that I barely manage to find groups for the dungeons that I like, now you also take away the possibility of leveling alts? Do I have to cash in for money? I’m sorry but I have no intention to buy gems just to turn them into gold. I bought gems for the bank spaces, and inventory spaces, I even bought some keys, and costumes, but I will NEVER buy gems for the gold.

That’s what I’m asking for…some acknowledgement, some assurance that they are listening to us! I feel like a fool for having supported the game and the company for the last 3 months everytime ppl complained. But with all these things I can’t help but complain now! Pls throw some light on what’s happening! Someone told me today on Guru forums that a lot of people have been getting rare items lately, I don’t see them. I ran through various DE’s in Cursed Shore just 2hrs ago with same MF bling bling, and got just one rare vs 4-5 rares per each Plinx run in the past. I don’t want to turn into a whiner having been on the opposite side till now, but Anet is not leaving me a choice!

I don’t think I’ve had a champ drop anything at all since the before the Lost Shores event…perhaps since the dye-drop-rate “fix”. However, I first noticed it during Lost Shores. I have had a couple exotics and rares drop in Orr, but always from regular mobs and nothing ever drops from champs…EVER. The is a real problems since at this level everyone is typically already 80 and just farming or doing events for rewards. There’s no incentive to take on a really tough enemy and possibly rack up repair/respawn costs, when you can be reasonably certain there’s no reward other than a bit of karma and less than 2 silver. I’ve done the Champion Risen Abomination in Cursed Shore, a truly tough foe, twice and racked up over ~6 silver in repairs and another ~6 silver in respawns and didn’t get any drops at all either time. I’m typically running about +31MF.

Again, this is a real problem, and very discouraging, when the drop rate and quality on regular enemies is substantially better than a champion that typically garners it’s own “group event”. Again…there is no incentive for me to take on champions, unless there is another motive such as them guarding a skill point or something similar…this is a real problem!!

Admittedly, I haven’t read the entire thread, is the behavior similar in dungeons?

I tend to agree that the notable silence from Anet is disconcerting. Perhaps that indicates that they did indeed intentionally lower the drop rate to increase gem sales over Xmas. Unfortunately, if that is the case it’s pretty shady business and what’s happening is that it’s pushing the price of many things well beyond the point of reasonable…which is discouraging for the casual playing who can’t grind 7 hours a day. What’s ecto now…something like 40s per? OUCH!! Unless it’s fixed, we’ll see a lot of people quitting out of sheer frustration and a lot more farming bots. With these drops rates, legendary weapon become essentially impossible to get unless you sink a ton of money (Hundreds of dollars) in to the gem store.

To be clear, the issues in this thread include:

- loot quality increase from vet/champs doe snot seem to have occured
- guarenteed drops from champs has not occured (drops are extremely rare)
- vet drops are extremely rare
- overall drop quantity and quality is lower
- Magic Find drop quantity is lower
- Magic Find drop quality is more crafting materials (and items that give crafting materials), less of everything else.
- Lack of response from ANet on these issues.

Well summarized. While some would argue that since this affects everyone equally and that things aren’t technically broken that it’s not a bug, I’d argue it’s a serious bug that hurts the marketplace by disproportionately driving up the cost of rare/exotic gear and mats. The increased drop rate that was promised was supposed to lower prices that were already out of control. It also breaks game dynamics by making the fight against champions and veterans pointless and a waste of time. I’d add there’s seems to be disproportionate amount of garbage drops too. After doing a few events in Cursed Shore last night, or the night before, I had 44 porous skulls (Or whatever they are)…good for a few silver, but otherwise useless and pointless.

That’s it. I will not be playing anymore until we receive some kind of answer to the issues raised in this thread. I can live with nerfed drop rates but not with this communication disaster. It shows contempt to us, their customers.

I think the main problem is that it is out of anets sight (or of range xD) in this forum.
We should also keep talking about it in the bug forum where it belongs to as long as they do not state “it is not a bug”.

I think concentrating this thread anywhere other than this forum would be a bad move, as this issue, and it’s rather far-reaching implications for the entire game, is quite beyond the realm of a simple bug.

Yeah, but they pay more attention to other forums than to this one.
And the communication in the bug forum is quite good (especially compared to other forums).

They are manipulating the currency and exchange rate to coerce people into spending $. I doubt they will move away from this business model.

I am still wondering where the very first thread about loot/ drop rate went.

As soon as the November patch went live people discovered what was and still is happening and someone created a thread. I posted in it and after a few hours it magically disappeared. It wasn’t merged or moved to another forum (Because you are notified if they do that and you can still see your post listed in “see all messages”, but it pretended I would have never written my post in that thread.).
It just vanished into thin air.

So what did happen to that thread? Why was it moved?
As I remember no one wrote anything that could have led to a closed – not to mention to a completely removed – thread.

After that, there was another thread in the bug forum which they moved to the technical forum. Why?

And then this one (wasn’t it in the technical forum for a short time, too?) and they finally merged it to one thread and kept it here in the discussion forum.

For me it’s interesting, why moving and confusing that much with threads containing that issue which is – unless stated otherwise – a bug. A massive bug.

By the way, it is no criticism on mods, I like them. <3

2 weeks since the AMA – no further communication on several key issues and promises made about following up on certain items. Just more PR BS to get you playing to the next event.

It may have been merged into this one. Or they might have just deleted it. I have had messages deleted without any notice sent to my mail. Although it was on a day where a mod infracted me 4 times in a row + that invisible message. I think someone had an unprofessional streak of power abuse.

No, it hasn’t been merged into that one. It existed days before they created that one (this thread here was created around Nov 23th?).
All the posts in the old thread are missing.

However, it’s just confusing (for me) why that was be done. You could be right, but maybe it was.. oh.lol. I didn’t mention what someone told me after the thread disappeared.. I think I’ll quote me.. that could have been the reason for vanishing it…

There was another thread which disappeared yesterday. It contained the same topic and that a lot of players felt loot reduction instead of improvement and drop increase.
I could not read it again (because I was sleeping as the thread disappeared magically), but I was informed that there was an “official” statement saying the loot/ drops were accidentally reduced than increased after the patch.

Well, as there is no option to have a look into the thread and that statement (it is not just closed and neither did I receive a message that it would have been merged into another thread nor can I find my post listed under my message overview in my profile), I am just wondering, if they really messed up with the loot, someone came and said “Yes, we did that.” and wasn’t supposed to do that and so the other thread vanished into thin air..

Why can we not get some feedback !

Is it working as intended ?? is it being looked into ??? has it been ninja fixed ?? do you give a %$£^ ?? i wont be wasting any more of my time (is it fixed/broken/working as normal, you tell me) trying to have fun playing when these are the forums you made, your chance to communicate with us therefore if there is no Anet response within the next few hours on this i will be deleting this game forever from my system, this is absolute pathetic customer service. I dont expect you to reply to every single post on the furums, but i think this one just maybe warrants some feedback… pissed off completely now..

Well as a TP Trading noob, the last thing I want to see is honest feedback from Anet on droprates. My god, think of what would happen!

“Hey guys, we just nerfed the droprate on pretty much everything!”

Hoarding and massive buyout ensues.

“Hey guys, you’re in luck. We just upped the droprate on pretty much everything!”

Massive selloff and Corvindi loses the virtual house she doesn’t actually have because Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have housing, darn it.

Oh lol that was me notifying you.

It was right when The Lost Shores board was archived, and yours was a thread that wasn’t moved to the archive. It came up in search results with the old URL (not archive) but when I clicked on it the page didn’t exist.

There really isn’t any external agency ensuring the people in charge of the forum adhere to rules. We are at their mercy, and they aren’t accountable to anyone. But they do represent Anet so the only thing keeping them in line is that they might drive us out of the game.

So there was this “official statement” long time ago?

Hmmmm… it’s a bug, it’s a bug, it’s a bug.

:-D

I don’t like to gather that many hooves or porous bones which they give me.. and the broken keys.. noooooooo!

It has to stop, yet I am not sure how we can achieve to get them communicating with us.

So now it’s officially reached an impass.

Tonight I went around gathering mats for making a pistol I wanted. I got some of the mats but alas it wasn’t enough to build both items. I get back to LA after a farm run (of just nodes mind you) and I find that it would actually cost twice as much for the mats then it would for me to outright buy the item I Already Have The Knowledge to make myself. Yeah that’s right. It’s easier just to buy the already made item, then to get the few things that never seem to drop ever from mobs.

The item? Cleric’s Pearl Handcannon. No really go check. 5 powerful totems 27s each 5 globs of ectoplasm 34 silver each 5 dowels (master) 25 silver each it came out to be 4.25 gold to make the pistol. Guess how much the actual pistol cost me. 3 gold.

This is starting to get out of control. really it is. If it’s left alone like this, let me ask you, what’s the point of crafting? hmm?

Update: Just got thru with their maintenance, and a tiny patch that forced a restart. I went back into the game in Orr. Fought four veterans. Two dropped blues and to my surprised two others actually dropped rares. It’s going to take way more testing but I am hopeful this is the start of the fix we’ve been waiting for. Oh had no MF on at the time.

What are the experiences of the rest of you after these patches?

Clark, that could be, but how to prove? We are not able to just look into it again and have a check what has been there or not ^^

However I read a nice theory how they intentionally nerfed the loot and it ended up with a guess it should be back to “normal” after Winterdays event. Could sound a little conspiratorially, but who knows and cares..
The problem is… I do not find the thread again.. xD

To sum it all up, ArenaNet, you have disappointed us.

1. Grind is everywhere.
2. Loot is nowhere.
3. Scaling Mechanics are NOT working
4. One hit kill bosses are a (bad) JOKE
5. Empty zones are making new people quit after a day because they cannot complete zones/challenges/etc.
6. Fracturing the player base with Fractals
7. Disconnections to the point that I do not even want to TRY my storyline
8. No Reconnect BACK INTO YOUR STORYLINE after disconnection (Heck, even GW1 eventually got that. It should have been built in from the start!)
9. Botched Events where people get kicked and never get to see it.
10. Botched Events where people are standing around waiting the see if they can get a lucky hit on an NPC when he goes agro.
11. Ignoring all the complaints and NO FEEDBACK!

Get the idea that I might be just a little bit angry? There are a lot of us out here that feel this way. Think you might want to take the blinders off and try fixing some of these issues?

Nothing “fixed” or changed.
Just did an oriround in frostgorge and killed every npc i passed. Approx 45 npcs killed and. I could loot every 6 th.

Becomes a serious issue, its just not worth killing outdoor npcs and no i dont want to grind fotm to get decent loot. Else i could Play wow.

I dont expect an exotic every second npc but i want something in return when i kill them.

Biggest issue that’s working exact opposite to what their Nov 15th patch said – Vets & Champs should give loot, and better one’s at that.
I got zero drop from Champion mob from Contender event in CS last night. Not even a porous bone! And there were 3 of us, so it’s more hardwork for lesser number of people to take down a level 80 mob than a zerg. Didn’t get drops when it was a zerg, don’t get it now.
Previously I could find sparks almost all the time near that camp waypoint (which only happens when Dwayna’s temple is uncontested). Which means people always used to do the event. I’ve only hit CS in the last 4 days after a long gap, and everytime that place is filled with corruption (green smoky thing) and no sparks and the temple of Dwayna lies contested all the time. People have just given up doing those events.
So no sparks = no charged lodestones for me, unless I do FoTM or buy them off TP for 2.5g each lodestone.

“It’s funny or I should say pathetic… that Anet can write something and answear to this similar problem here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Stealth-FoTM-chests-nerf/first#post922674 in a short time…while we are here waiting 2 weeks”

This thread confims that they have change the drop rate.
If they didnt change the drop rate they would have told us a long time ago.

I guess they dont tell us because they dont want to tell us something we dont like simple as that. Or they dont want to tell us because they dont want to effect the prices on TP.
They will only tell us after they up the drop rate so it will not be as bad. Saying it was unintended of course.

Only way for us is to messure the drop rate ourself and thats hard when there is no combat log system need very large sample sizes if the drop rate is bellow 1%.
