While running around, i get my mf up (96 when i start before everything) and I start to get the luck buff charging, while charging i see a burst of mats for a second, like blues a greens then when i reach 196 before food I don’t see a thing. Then when i add the food buff suddenly I get a couple of greens, then it halts entirely without the guild buffs or the store bought buff pushing me over the 250% threshold I don’t see anything with mf. It’s ridiculous. I can only imagine what people without mf are getting.

If this is the direction they are gonne take i guess ill go look for an alternative since playing now wields no reward anymore, 45 hour of cursed shore i gotten 151 porous bones and 10 greens, loot of whites and couple of blues, not worth it anymore.

It would be nice to actually have a “non cryptic” response on this. I have noticed a huge reduction in drops an all of my toons. It is hard to repair armor and port to new map, without loosing money. At the current rate, I see less and less PC’s on all of the maps, and expect to see even fewer as time goes by. My family and I all play and enjoy this game, but the total lack of information from the staff is a hard pill to swallow.
In the couple weeks time since Lost Shores, I have not seen any difference in any of the gameplay. Of course there was the addition of “stuff” in the BLT, yet still no word about thoose of us that DC’d during LS event, or anything intelligent about the drop rates…
All I would like to know is that they are working on it, or not. I am not a mushroom, do not keep me in the dark and feed me crud… I still love the game, but I am getting discouraged with the utter lack of feedback…

Personally, it worries me not only on the personal level as something that makes my money making process more hard and therefore more time consuming, but it also drastically affects the market overall (take price of unidentified dyes as a prime example).
And it REALLY concerns me that there is no official answer at all for such a huge thread.
Is that somehow shows that they are ignoring the community in certain, clearly uncomfortable, respects? Looks to me that this is such a case…

Well I’ve managed to get to 80, got myself a rare set (after selling all my rare mats) and now I’m done.
I’m an open world PvE junkie and I love me my grinds. I’m at my happiest just wombling around whacking creatures with my hammer and stealing their goodies. Now Anet has decided I’m not allowed to play that way so I’m out till they sort their kitten out.
I’m the kind of guy that has a decent disposable income and I am willing to blow my hard earned on Gems just to support a good product and I game I want to play. GW2 has become neither of those things.
I said in a earlier post that I wont be nickle and dimed and I meant it. I’ll keep an eye on the forumsto see if Anet owns up to the stealth nerf and fixes some of the Bugs and balance problems that have plagued GW2 since release. As of now this game goes on the “Fail” pile along with WAR, DCUO, Swtor and D3
To all those still playing and holding in there I wish you all the best of luck

Well if you look at the Dev Tracker, there are plenty of ANet responses throughout the week to alot of other stuff, so that rules out holidays, staff being busy, and such. This thread is simply being avoided, just like the questions about it during the AMA were being avoided.

This is STILL happening, its turning me off the game, I don’t look forward to getting on and having to “grind” much more than I used to. Yesterday I got on, finished getting the 4G I spent 10 hours trying to get in Cursed Shore the day before, did my gathering run, and stayed in WvW for the rest of the day. I have characters I would love to level up, but “this bug” does not make it enjoyable to play them since I have to stay in areas alot longer to get the gear that will help in the higher level areas. This bug forces me to keep characters in lower level areas longer, grinding events, hoping to get the much needed upgrades via drops.

I can just imagine how a new player feels, gets their character storyline out of the 1-15 area, their character being level 16-20, and unable to survive in the higher level area cause they still mostly have their starter armor/weapons. This is the problem I am facing with 4 lvl 15 characters, and 1 lvl 35 character who is still stuck with most of the armor she got in the 1-15 area.

Not enjoyable …

It’s getting to the point where earning any sort of reasonable income for the time put in is impossible. This, combined with the often staggering cost of items or perks in the game means that its like asking a starving man to run a marathon…not fun.

Even if i was to buy gems to get gold, the amount i need for most endgame things is so huge that i would be paying hundreds of dollars to get what i needed….way more than a subscription or buying the game over and over again.

Greetings fellow traveler!

I would like to point out that the items you are looking for, lodestones and t6 mats are RARE items. They do not drop readily, are not easily farmable and they never have been since the game launched.

Let’s look at t6 mats. Vials of Powerful Blood for example.
There are certain types of mobs that drop blood: Skelks, Bats, Trolls, etc. The lower level mobs drop the lower level bloods while the higher level mobs drop the higher bloods. If you want to farm the rare t6 blood, farm the mobs that regularly drop the t5 – this will give you a CHANCE at the rare t6 drop. Also note that the new mobs they added to the game in the last patch, the Young Karka, also drop blood.

Now after you’ve farmed these fellows for awhile you will find significantly more t5 blood in your bag than t6. This is because t6 is RARE.

What you can do is sell your excess t5 mats on the Trading Post and use that gold to purchase t6 from other players that have listed them on the Trading Post or you can use the t5 mats in a Mystic Forge recipe that creates a random amount of t6 mats.

Here are the best places to look for mobs that drop the mats and Mystic Forge recipes to transmute t5:

LOL… really?!

Judging by the OPs phrasing of his question I’m sure he knows what a rare item is. But I’m sure he’s grateful for your long-winded condescension.

OP: As the others in the thread have pointed out there’s seems to be a problem with drop rates in open world atm. We are waiting to hear back from Anet about it.
If you want rare drops at the moment you have 3 choices.

1. Run Fractals
2. Buy Gems to convert to gold.
3. Grind for 10 hrs a day 7 days a week

I went with the 4th option… which is just not to play.

Good Luck

This should help …

In probability theory, the law of large numbers (LLN) is a theorem that describes the result of performing the same experiment a large number of times. According to the law, the average of the results obtained from a large number of trials should be close to the expected value, and will tend to become closer as more trials are performed.

For example, a single roll of a six-sided dice produces one of the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, each with equal probability. Therefore, the expected value of a single die roll is

\tfrac{1+2+3+4+5+6}{6} = 3.5.

According to the law of large numbers, if a large number of six-sided dice are rolled, the average of their values (sometimes called the sample mean) is likely to be close to 3.5, with the accuracy increasing as more dice are rolled.

It follows from the law of large numbers that the empirical probability of success in a series of Bernoulli trials will converge to the theoretical probability. For a Bernoulli random variable, the expected value is the theoretical probability of success, and the average of n such variables (assuming they are independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.)) is precisely the relative frequency.

For example, a fair coin toss is a Bernoulli trial. When a fair coin is flipped once, the theoretical probability that the outcome will be heads is equal to 1/2. Therefore, according to the law of large numbers, the proportion of heads in a “large” number of coin flips “should be” roughly 1/2. In particular, the proportion of heads after n flips will almost surely converge to 1/2 as n approaches infinity.

Though the proportion of heads (and tails) approaches 1/2, almost surely the absolute (nominal) difference in the number of heads and tails will become large as the number of flips becomes large. That is, the probability that the absolute difference is a small number, approaches zero as the number of flips becomes large. Also, almost surely the ratio of the absolute difference to the number of flips will approach zero. Intuitively, expected absolute difference grows, but at a slower rate than the number of flips, as the number of flips grows.

The LLN is important because it “guarantees” stable long-term results for random events. For example, while a casino may lose money in a single spin of the roulette wheel, its earnings will tend towards a predictable percentage over a large number of spins. Any winning streak by a player will eventually be overcome by the parameters of the game. It is important to remember that the LLN only applies (as the name indicates) when a large number of observations are considered. There is no principle that a small number of observations will converge to the expected value or that a streak of one value will immediately be “balanced” by the others.

I used to find that this game’s loot had a Diablo-esque addictive quality to it. I’d find tons of items which I could either sell or salvage and it seemed like every enemy was worth killing. Now I find myself looking for ways to avoid combat because killing anything is hardly worth the “junk” it drops. Honestly, I don’t think the loot tables ever needed to be fiddled with except making some items like lodestones drop from several sources as opposed to one or two mobs in the entire game. I would say killing earth elementals for 100 hours is “repetitive, and not fun” which ArenaNet cannot deny is grinding. At least tier 6 materials drop from many sources in many places and can be earned from doing many different things, lodestones on the other hand…

Yes loot is beyond horrid right now, to make any sort of income you need to grind dungeons and buy rares for tokens salvage them for ectos and sell on TP.

And I’m sure that will be nerfed soon too, “no grind” lol k. We aren’t allowed to make gold ingame unless we buy it with gems.

Things are changed because the powers that be see fit, and before the fluffy bunny fanboys jump in and say “It’s their game to change as they please!”, well, yes it is, but we are the fools that paid for it, and then go on to ignore that it’s a different kettle of fish that we bought, just so they can boost the gem shop sales by cutting off loot and gold farming… It’s called oppression!!!.

I was really happy with lost shores patch notes

as collector I really like collecting minis but there’s been only 2 way to do that gem store or trading post then anet introduced karka minis from drops I was thinking this was really good move

same with buffed drops from veterans and champions because everyone just skip them or run behind them opening their chest and running away… but it’s just not working …

as I said before I cancelled 50euro worth of gems and did not play for past 3 days
I have 8 characters all of them need equip unfortunately when I get 1 rare per 12 hours of play then its not worth my time and this is whole definition of grind

Same with dyes when I got my first character to lvl 80 (before dyes where bugged)
I used to get 1 to 6 in one day …
In past week I got 60 levels on alts another 10 on my lvl 80 via exploring and got only 3 …

it’s amazing how fast can anet fix(overnerf) dyes but ignore this for 2 weeks

Maybe if we forward our findings to some major youtube reviewers or review sites and someone pick this and create article that GW2 has changed to grind or pay 2 win maybe they will wake up after they lose many potential customers …
or maybe they are already planing fix for this ala nerfing fractals to be same as open world so no one can complain about them ….

There is way to many stealth nerfs and not enough talking to the players.

…so they can boost the gem shop sales by cutting off loot and gold farming… It’s called oppression!!!.

I feel like this has been slowly happening since the start of the game. Perhaps that was the plan all along, to make us feel like things were doable and realistic, so we’d get into it, while nerfing gradually beneath our notice until we get addicted and desperate so we pay for gems. Feels really wrong to me.

I have also noticed the forge giving me far fewer successes than before Lost Shores. This claimed 1 in 5 ratio is not in effect anymore. And I had salvaged 5 lv 70s rares with Mystic kit and gotten 1 ecto total.

I’m just not participating in many areas of the game anymore until this is fixed. But I don’t think it will be fixed, which means I am being edged out of the game.

I don’t know why you all still want Anet to officially respond to this. You know they won’t totally switch the direction they’re going. You know they stealth nerf things. If they say anything, it will be to appease you but with an underlying nerf that causes us to be no better off. ie “we’ve made it so every champion drops something”, without mentioning that chest drop rates were lowered to compensate.

•The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons.
•The amount of loot that drops for downscaled players has been increased. You should now be able to receive level-equivalent loot until you are fighting at a downscaled level that is less than 2/3 of your actual level. You should also receive loot a greater percentage of the time as well as receiving a greater percentage of experience, gold, and karma. For level 80 characters, this means level 55+ areas will be able to drop level 80 gear and give about 75% or so of the other rewards. Previously, these areas would give level 77 gear at best and closer to 60% or so of your rewards.

So we all know the 1st point I posted is completely broken, champs and vets still hardly drop anything and if they do its never anything worth the effort.

But no-ones pointed out the 2nd point … which changes the loot based on level difference. Maybe we getting less and lower quality becuase we’re in areas for our level and need to be fighting level 55 mobs to get the loot we so crave. Maybe this scaling of loot is the reason we getting less and crappier stuff in open world.

I have to test this but not tonight, it is late and I’m going to bed.

Agree 100%. The only difference between farming dungeons or open world mobs is I prefer one over the other…both should be viable options to slowly build reasonable “middle class” wealth in this game. I have killed many dozens of veterans and seen MOST drop NOTHING. Do they want a pay to win game, ala the Gem Store?

I agree with the addictive feeling of looting in this game prior to this issue. I absolutely loved killing stuff and seeing the sparklie animation. Every corpse was a mini-treasure hunt, each one opened with anticipation of what I might find. Now, for days on end I have been met with such disappointing results I am discouraged to do anything at all.

I hope they fix this soon.

ANets’ continued silence on the matter speaks volumes to me.

Intended nerf or unintentional bug? We’ve already bought the game. They have our money. They simply don’t care!

As another poster mentioned, ANet are treating us like mushrooms. keeping us in the dark and feeding us crud!

Unfortunately, like most modern corporate entities, ANets’ focus now seems to be on enticing new customers to buy their product. Rather than retaining existing customers trust and goodwill by the quality of their product, their support, communication and ongoing customer care.

Could these diminished loot drops be an unconscious reflection of the value that ANet now places on their customers?

It wouldn’t be too late, if they decide now to clear that thing. If they would say “Yes, we are sorry. That is a bug and we figured NOW out, how that happened and it will be fixed in a few hours!”

I cannot really understand, why they are doing and acting like this and not how a business should treat their customers.
I really don’t get it!

Do they want fewer people playing GW2?
Don’t they want that people LOVE to play GW2?
And are we not allowed to have fun?

Hopefully they’ll wake up and see what is happening. (Not just with loot drops, there are so many things ingame they should address immediately!! :-()
This is not helpful to earn more money from us, quite the opposite they are pushing players (= customers = money) away with their behaviour.

By the way, yesterday I killed a few champions and whatever, they still didn’t give me my promised loot. And the other foes gave me a lot of crap/ junk like hooves.. (one event with centaurs gave me 42* hooves and nothing really helpful? yeah, after the patch of course..)

I guess I should visit forums more often as I came here partially to ask if something has happened to loot drops. The good news is that I just got my fourth character to level 80 so I can put my gaming on hold while waiting for them to fix this and all the event bugs. I’m just going to do dailies now on and probably play market for a bit.

I think a partial break is a good idea anyway as I’m sort of losing interest to the game as the “fun” has lately significantly drained out. Doesn’t help that I think ANet is horrible at fixing things that actually matter to players. That and they are rushing out buggy and exclusive events.

Will have to start logging in more to see what the bot activities are re-tooling to, and watch some tp prices. Rather sorry state of affairs when the only real impetus to log in is monitor the throes of the game’s economics post-Nexon monetization.

Teleporting bots have been more noticable in Orr, expect prices of Ori, Omnom, and Ancient Wood to drop, cutting down the alternate source of income while this loot drop bug exsists.

since anet is ignoring this, i am pretty sure its intended

how about u communicate a bit more with ur customers?

no hotfixes at all for anything, besides nerfing any moneygain in the game

its pretty sad that we get no reply and we get no fixes, looks like we have to wait till 14 for a patch

put t6 items, ectos and persecursors on gemshop, since farming these is a joke for anyone who wants to spend his playtime having fun.

Bumping this thread to make sure every1 is aware of the decreased drop rate and rarity of loot since the November 15th patch and keep the attention of the devs.

Is there a way we can contact Chris Whiteside directly about this, maybe he doesn’t know that no-one has responded to this. He seemed keen to have it investigated at the AMA last week despite initially ignoring the topic. Almost a week on an we’ve heard nothing.

Until I read this thread, I actually thought the lousy drop rate was just normal. This is terrible, and must be rectified ASAP.

I have been hunting in game trying to farm some blood so i can craft some exotic armor for myself, (just hit 400 in armorsmithing, i know not a big accomplishment but still a big moment for me lol) and i could have sworn i had better luck a month ago with my other lvl 80 in the same area. Came here to see what happened to drops, and low and behold, this thread.

I hope we get an answer, i too like so many have previously stated so elegantly, used to find each monster a worthy kill just to see what it might drop, always the optimist, hoping for a blue or green or at the very least something! Today, that is not the story, i no longer expect any monster to drop anything of note, the drops are drying up and with it my fun, time for a break.

Yes well- I was glad when I read the patch notes that promised better loot drops for champs etc.
I swear after playing for the last two weeks on my alt- I will scream if I see another porous bone!
Most of the mobs give nothing, it cannot be just bad luck, it is too consistent.
I saw a yellow for the first time yesterday since the patch- I gave it to my husband.
This makes me furious and i don’t even care about loot- I just want to play the game in the world and be able to at least not make a loss!

Hi all, I’m afraid to report that I am in the same boat as everyone in this thread. I logged in this morning to do some farming in Orr. Farmed a group of 6 mobs (no drops) though okay let’s try some events. Tagged enemies got the XP and 2 drops out of I think 6-9 waves of enemies. 2 drops? One was a white pistol and the other was one of them Porous Bones. I asked in WC and someone said I could have hit DR but I stated that I just started so how could that be? Yeah something is really wrong with the drop rate. The amount of enemies that I’ve killed and the amount of drops don’t add up. Also there was 3 Veterans that spawned during this event. Not one of them dropped anything. Despite tagging and getting the XP from the kill.. O_O Help Arenanet???

On the bright side, the current loot solves the problem of “F” being bound to loot and revive and everything else. While looting during events used to be a good thing to do, it’s OK to wait until it’s over now that hardly any bodies sparkle anymore.

See, everyone complained about “F”, Arenanet fixed it and you’re unhappy again! </sarcasm>

Phooka, despite everything the continuing existence of this thread entails, you wrenched a grin and a giggle out of me.
Many thanks.
