Consortium Sickle - bugged, right?
i don’t care, what do i care is i don’t have to buy anymore picks or sickle and i’m happy about it.
don’t really care about the animation, it’s just less than 3 seconds anyway

my sickle sporadically disappears when I’m using it. o_O
I definintely think there is at least one thing wrong with it that they have acknowledged in the Lost Shores forum is that you get stuck in animation and can’t cancel it like all the other gathering stuff.
Edit: Lost Shore lol…er Southsun event forum. I am tired apparently.
Functionality is one thing, but animation is still important for a game. No different than if a staff was using the animation for a sword. Still functional, but takes away from the game.
Overall the game is beautiful and the molten pick was brilliant, I can’t believe that this is what was meant for the sickle. I understand a bug, things like that happen, I’d just like to be sure A-net is aware and hopefully working to resolve.
I hope it’s a bug. The pick is amazing. The sickle is as previously described in this thread.
What I don’t understand is why they didn’t keep the original sickle model and:
1- give it a new skin with a glow and better texture.
2- add a water animation

I was planning to buy all the unlimited gathering tools when as soon as they were released. I bought two Molten pick axes because I thought they were so great… but this sickle?… I’m considering just skipping the unlimited sickle.. maybe pick one up at a later date when they make a different unlimited sickle…. the animation and all that makes it easy to wait it out an indeterminate amount of time like that…
I think the overhead swinging animation is actually intended. Anet reinforced this idea when they lengthened the handle of the sickle so it no longer floats, and changed the sound effect to one of rustling leaves.

I’ll be disappointed if this is the case. There is no time whatsoever that a sickle should be swung like that. A hoe, maybe, but even then you don’t generally swing a hoe over your head.
I must admit it is a silly way to pick leaves/berries off a bush…

I just want the geyser effect to be more dramatic or replaced with a new effect. Also, is it just me or is the new animation much longer than the normal sickle animation? If so, it should be shortened.

This. When I first time used this sickle, I was like “omg, why so long”. I hope that it is bug, because if it is gonna be like this, I won’t use it.
And yeah, the way character holds it, just… You would ruin every berry “picked” that way in real. I know that you can compare game with real life, but just let’s try make this sickle a little bit realistic.
Out of all the game breaking bugs in this game. I highly doubt more than one or two people care about a pick or sickle animation on an item designed to rip you off 10 bucks. I maybe wrong, who knows

What I care about is the fact that it takes 300% longer to harvest and I can’t break away if something starts beating on me. That is some BS right there.
It’s a bug that wasn’t caught in time to make today’s patch. They know it’s an issue and it’ll be hotfixed to use the proper animation soon*.
I just tried it out and am reporting some facts:
1) you can NEVER interrupt it. you can’t cancel in the middle, even with stun breaks such as blink. I just confirmed: An enemy’s kb can cancel it.
2) on land, it takes 3 times as long to gather as any other sickle. you get the food in the same time, but then you have to re-sow the node?
3) underwater harvesting takes the same length of time as other sickles, but the graphics are no different than any other sickle.

Try weaponswap. It should cancel the animation.

We’re paying 800 gems the animation should be good, instead anet have obviously taken the cheap way out. That animation looks ridiculous for a sickle.

Indeed it does, ty. not that that is much of a consolation prize for 800 gems, but still.
also: you can cancel underwater harvesting with it by simply moving, like any other gathering tool.

I’m not going to get the harvesting sickle. I don’t want an item with a longer harvest time. That is counter-productive to the idea of the item being a convenience item. I’ll wait to see if they change it and if they don’t then I’ll just hope that they release another infinite sickle down the road.
The sickle is such a disappointment, especially after the awesome molten pick.
The animation is just wrong. Why not just do it with the standard sickle animation and the water spout.
Looks like a rushed job, probably just reskinned molten pick, with water instead of lava. At first even the sound was the same.
And this is sold for 10$. A shame really.
Anet, just fix this and make it right.

Its just pure and utter laziness, nothing else. Then they charge you money for it?! If players let developers get away with this sort of crap then I its just sad.
well the positive side here is that we can now predict how we will chop down tree’s in the future!!! instead of horizontally, we will be smashing it vertically with so much force that the ground will crack and rocks flying away from tree!!

Yesterday it could at least gather 3 times per use (on nodes that gave bonus gathers), but for some reason they removed that one good feature.
The description says it has the same efficiency as an Orichalcum sickle, and yet it takes longer to use. That seems less efficient to me! Very disappointed in my purchase
Using this sickle, you attempt to gather plants the destructive way. You slam that thing into the ground and just try to rip the entire plant up. You’ll probably get stuck on roots though, so it may take a few tries.
I was also going to buy it, but the clink clink sound and the extended animation stopped me. According to an earlier poster, the clink clink sound has been replaced… but the extended animation still remains. If they change that, they’ll have my money.
I agree that it’s just silly, and not how one ‘gathers’ though. :/

I care very much what it looks like. I care even more about the time wasted spent using it, and the vulnerability of not being able to break the animation to dodge away from attacks. It’s a bad product when compared to the pick-axe, and A-Net needs to either fix it or offer refunds to those who have purchased it.

We will get unlimited logging axe in Next big patch – Dragon Festival. “Chop-It-All! Unlimited Logging.Limited Sale!” How do you think, are they going to do new cool looking animation or we will get the same mining pick animation for chopping wood.

If they really think harvesting works like that, they’ll die of starvation if they ever have to do it themselves.
And the logging axe will use the same animation rotated by 90 degrees.

lol, but you can’t split the tree if you’re hacking at it’s roots, which is what it would look like.
In any case, I’m still holding out on this simply being a bug where the code got mixed up with the molten pick and that they are just trying to sort it out. Here’s hoping, though without A-net weighing in who knows (and increasing the sickle’s length has made me nervous). At least they acknowledged the increased time to harvest as a bug they are working on at the moment.

Indeed. Not the best £8 I’ve spent. Hopefully they will just switch back to the real sickle animation. It’s definitely bug if it looks like you’re completely destroying that plant… and not being able to cancel while doing so.
Patch notes say its fixed now (or inc build)
Had to restart twice for it to properly work but it does indeed seem fixed.

Fixed for me, uses the original sickle animation now. Still unimpressive, but working as intended it seems
Some good news!
The water spout needs to be much larger but glad they fixed the animation.
It’s still partly bugged, the water + vines come after I’m done gathering, not during the animation. Water being the same size as the lava at the mining pick would be a welcome change too.
I hope they can fix this too.
yeah the sprinkle animation is late, it’s probably due to the timing change instigated by the switch to the correct sickle animation, one problem after another aye?
Step in the right direction though hopefully they do two things to make it better.
1) Beef up the animation as you often can’t see it with bushes and as mentioned it is a little late.
2) Resize the sickle to its original size (one handed item) so that it looks like you are using it. It is currently the size of a pick, but used properly as a sickle.
That said, I’m thankful that they are working to fixing this item so we get our money’s worth.

Yep , it’s definitly a step in the right direction and now we don’t feel cheated for using this over a regular sickle. There’s still three slight improvements that I think they should consider :
- Remove the delay before the water flow animation shows up so that it starts flowing as soon as you start gathering. Of course, fix the sound accordingly.
- Reduce the size of the sickle so that it matchs the size of a regular sickle and not an oversized scythe (I ‘m trying to gather some onions, not to chop down a forest^^).
- Increase the size of the water/vines animation (similarly to the mining pick’s one). Presently, it is barely noticeable (especially the vines).
