[Merged] Cultural Human T3 Not Exclusive
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Wow, I never post on the forums but this is straight up disgusting. If I knew this skin was going in I would have never wasted my gold on it.
Can anet let us know if they’re reskinning other t3 armors so I can just drop $10 on them too? Are legendaries going in at some point in the future?
(edited by Caosaur.3871)
Agree with the OP, this is rediculous.
By basically retouching human T3 and putting it up for sale, they have:
1) Insulted every player that worked hard to afford human T3 by making it available for gems
2) Insulted every player that worked hard to afford human T3 by making a just-slighty cooler looking version – that will cost them $10
3) Insulted every player that rolled a human just to have good looking cultural armor
Whats next, for 1600 gems we can buy other races elite skills? SNOW LEOPARD FOR EVERYONE!
Make good looking armors Anet, but keep exclusives exclusive. This was a terrible idea. I’ve been disappointed with class changes in every game (being mad about class balance is part of every game); but this is the first time i felt like a company spit on a players hard work and racial choices.
Literally couldn’t have put it better myself, well said. (P.S Class/skill balance in this game is abysmal to put it lightly.)
Agree with Raven, such an illogical decision and an insult of biblical proportions.
not everyone has as much gold as you… It IS a prestige object for a lot of players and if you saved your gold until you finally hit the 120g mark and now you get it for half the price with an extra effect, you’ll feel screwed over.
+1
The whole shtick behind Cultural armor was that it was exclusive to one race and one race only. The fact that a lot of people by now have it doesn’t mean it’s okay to suddenly make it available to non-humans.
It would have been more fair if they had also re-skinned the other races’ T3 light sets
and put them up on the Store.
I couldn’t care less about the price to be honest, it’s the principle. Cultural armor was/is meant to be exclusive to one race and one race only! Naming the “new” set “Flamekissed” doesn’t fool anyone; it’s still the same human T3 set, but it’s now available to all races.
That’s why I’m miffed.
It would have been fair had they released re-skins of all the other races’ T3 light armors. Heck, I’d love the idea of making my human male Ele wear the T3 sylvari armor for a more druid-like look. Or have him wear the asura T3 for a more modern look.
You know, I don’t like the idea of the human T3 being released like that in the gem store (even if the only human char I have is level 30 and with me not liking human cultural armor)… but if they ever do that, I’m going to have to buy the T3 asura medium, just so my charr engineer can use the googles helm thing..
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
When Anet releases all cultural armor to all races I will be content. Until then, this is an outrage singling out a single race and armor class to screw over.
Edit: and actually, nobody else post in this thread. You’ll just make anet thinks there are two equal sides to the argument.
Edit2: threads got merged… again. Ignore first edit. God, it’s impossible to tell what’s going on in this monster thread anymore.

What they should have done is simple. There are sets in PvP that you can not get in PvE. People have requested access to these sets for a long time now. They aren’t cultural, no strings attached. So why weren’t they used?
Good idea and I know its been suggested before in terms of why wasn’t the model used for settlers armor.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
I’m happy because I don;t have it but want it but I understand why ppl are upset
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
I loved the idea of every race having a unique set of armor for each type. I considered this armor to be worn by elite human spellcasters. This is immersion breaking and it ruins a lot for me. It’s not just about the gold it took me it’s also about the feel of the game.

Exactly! In a largely cooperative game like guild wars, our differences are what make us strong as a group. Diversity in both skills and appearance set us aside and make each player feel special. When you release an armor that was a challenge to get for cash you are breaking one of gaming’s golden rules. That rule is:
1. Respect the players time.
By taking what WAS a significant effort and trivializing it you are being outright disrespectful to my efforts. It’s not welcome.
I would like my 120g and 6 transmutation stones back. I picked human specifically for their light armor T3 and now anyone can get it.
I’m cool buying it with gems and that too, but it should have stayed exclusive and non-gemmed.
I mean what if I can just go to the store and buy Arah armor with pocket change? People that ran the dungeon for it would be pretty mad I bet.
I couldn’t care less, to be honest. But maybe it’s just me.
Some things I wouldn’t mind, but I would be kitten ed if my five years in gw1 were undermined by them putting heritage armor and things up in the gemstore.
You know what would be nice? An official response on this matter.
Someone coming in and saying " yes we understand that cultural armor was supposed to be unique to each race and only available to that race – but we changed that because…"
That would be neat.

Don’t give them any ideas.
Next update : Buy those pesky GW1-related titles that you never got your hands on – only 500 gems.
Im so happy that everyone can have my EXCLUSIVE ARMOR for just 800 Gems. (10 USD). That was the best kitten decision ever. Said no one ever.
ArenaNet can i have a refund of my 120G and my 6 Transmutation Crystals back?
Ticket denied. They will not be refunding those who wasted gold on actual t3. This game is becoming a real joke.
There are people that specifically chose human race for the T3 armor. Can they have a refund on the armor and a race change?
ANet kicking players in the balls again for money. Whos bright idea is this? I would like to congratulate this person.
if you saved your gold until you finally hit the 120g mark and now you get it for half the price with an extra effect, you’ll feel screwed over.
This argument I can sympathize with. No one likes to waste gold. But really if you worked hard to save that gold for the T3 set, it will still be apparent to people that you did that, because no one will confuse this gem store set with the original T3 set.
For me, it’s not about price though, it’s about making a set available. I would pay double the gold equivalent of T3 cultural armor to put it on another race. Norn heavy T3 on my human warrior? 1600 gems, not a second thought. I’m just surprised there are more out there that think this way.
I mean what if I can just go to the store and buy Arah armor with pocket change? People that ran the dungeon for it would be pretty mad I bet.
The point is, Arah armor is something you earn by completing difficult content in the game, so yes, there is some degree of prestige tied to it. It is completely inappropriate to compare cultural armor to dungeon armor in terms of prestige, all you need for cultural armor is gold, which could be bought by converting from gems if one were so inclined, so it’s no less prestigious than this gem store set is.

Pay to win, here we come.
Neat. You managed to find the overlapping area between ‘melodrama’ and ‘mass hysteria’.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

I want an official response! What could possibly gave them the idea to use cultural armor???
Just another sad day playing a sad game with sad support that puts out sad updates.
Feels like Anet has been sold to EA
Actually, putting the t3 human cultural in the gem store is perfectly consistent with a typical vertical progression game like GW2.
In a horizontal progression game uniqueness and exclusivity are generally reserved for gear skins. The high-end skins are what take the most grind and/or effort. But as of November 2012 GW2 officially became a vertical progression game. And as such, it’s not the look of your gear that matters, but the stats on them. High-end gear is now defined by MAX stats, NOT by unique appearance.
And while it’s true that in games like WoW or LotRO (and now GW2) max stat gear typically also has unique skins as well, it’s also true that the appearance of that gear is merely a secondary reward soon to be rendered meaningless whenever the next tier of max stat gear is introduced.
So given that GW2 is in no way unique to the MMO genre, and merely represents the latest incarnation of typical vertical progression games, offering popular skins in the gem store is perfectly in-line with the games new (but traditional) philosophy.
by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game.
We want everyone on an equal power base.”

I would say that earning 238 gold is more prestigious in game than tossing a couple real world dollars at a store that mails your character their purchases instantly. I mean I get your point… but earning money can be hard in game esp if you only play a few hours here and there… of course, having a job and that I have real world money to spend in game, but this time it just doesn’t seem quite fair.

I’m sorry, but where were you guys when all of us Fractal runners started complaining about our time being thown away by them getting rid of our levels. I see a lot of the same people complaining here about T3 that only yesterday were telling us Fractal runners that our time was worthless…it was only a number. Well, looks are meaningless also, they add nothing to your stats, nor do they affect your skill as a player.
Many of us complaining on the fractal number loss were saying exactly this, that it becomes a slippery slope. If they do not believe our time is worth anything, then there is nothing that they cannot change / take away from us…whether it is Fractal level, or T3 cultural, or Legendary.
I have everything for my legendary but the pre-cursor…but have actually been delaying doing anything with it because I fear that even this will go away….that 2 weeks after I buy my pre-cursor and make my legendary they will release the new legendaries that will have better stats, look cooler, and make the one I ground for worth-less.
I think I still have faith in the devs, and I think I still have faith in the game…but things like that make me really wonder…
Agree with this completely, these have been my exact thoughts since this release.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
Wow, I never post on the forums but this is straight up disgusting. If I knew this skin was going in I would have never wasted my gold on it.
Gem store armor sets do not count towards achievements though, so you still have an use for them culturals.

The point is that people can’t tell whether you bought that item with gold you earned or gold you converted from gems. The item has no prestige because of that.
This is why a mini Liandri has more prestige than a Legendary weapon.

The truely sad part was the Heavy and Medium versions of this gem store reskinning.
:)
I bet the metrics are off the scale on which set gets purchased the most. The heavy: a few. The Medium: No one. The Light: Meter pegged and buried full scale deflection.

Are you suggesting that buying this T3 Human Cultural armor for your NORN should give you an achievement?

The legendaries are understandable. They can release a new looking set and that would be fine with me. It just peeves me that RACE EXCLUSIVE armors are being sold on the gem store for ANY race. What happens to people that chose the human race specifically just for the T3 armor but really wanted another race? Can they get a refund on their armor and a free race change? That’s just an enormous amount of effort that is being trampled on by Anet.
I also agree with you about resetting the fractals to level 30. I suffered long and hard to get it so high. If Anet’s stance is to really disregard the effort and time put in by players, they can really just do anything kittened from here on out. They could be like, oh whoops, we have to reset everyone back to launch day status. Also, what’s the point of having a fractal leaderboard? It does more harm than good.
Please, tell me this is a joke, ANet. Remember – Spring 2014 and a bunch of new games. Better stop buggering around and rethink your policy, seriously. Loads of people love this game but with moves like this, you are ruining it. Seriously, this is the first time I’m really kitten ed off with your behaviour…

Fair enough. However with this move I’m less likely to bother with farming gold for cultural armor when I can just buy it in the gem store. Achievements are nice, but I’m all about the skins in the end.
This is assuming there’s going to be a slippery slope of cultural armor going in the gem store. If Anet actually says something, then I won’t worry about it,
(edited by Caosaur.3871)
Maybe they did this to distract us from the terrible taxi cab confession video? wait, maybe they did the taxi video to distract us from this…. Not sure which one is working.
Anet isn’t going to reply. They didn’t release the skin thinking nobody was going to notice or care. No company or designer is that naive.
They released the skin with full intention of “This is human tier 3 armor. We are now going to make it shiny, and sell it for gems.” The reason people’s topics are being deleted and not replied to is, surprise, because Anet doesn’t care.
They want to make money. They obviously know that the human cultural is popular (mainly for the females) because hey, it’s a nice set. What better way to rake in the gems than to make it available to everyone?
So now people who took the time to get the funds for this “exclusive” armor are cheated because the average person with $10 to spare can laugh because they look the same (arguably better) and it took nothing.
Coming this Christmas, “Frostkissed Armor” Medium Human Tier 3, with some ice effects.
Touche Anet, Touche.
You know what would be nice? An official response on this matter.

Haha oh man all that grinding ALL THAT GRINDING! If I could buy it for gems… I dunno, I’d hate myself.
I suspect their new plan going forward in 2014 is to phase out gold completely and replace it with gems and bloodstone dust.
If they do it for the human cultural armour then it should be for all cultural armours. Either open them up for everyone or not at all….
We should all wear those basic PVP smocks and use basic looking equipment in protest.
If they do it for the human cultural armour then it should be for all cultural armours. Either open them up for everyone or not at all….
I am sorta with you on this. What they should do is remove the T3 armor vendors and just stick the SKINS into the store for 500 gems. No transmute stones needed.
No special particle effects, they can do that later for the 800 gems versions.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Why couldn’t they just take those unavailable sets from PvP and “flame kiss” them? People would actually appreciate that but no better ruin the little race diversity there is to the game.
“Next update : Buy those pesky GW1-related titles that you never got your hands on – only 500 gems.”
500 is way too low. :P
there is no way of defending what Anet has done this time no way to try and say but this or that they really messed up with the t3 culture armor remake. I wouldn’t have minded if they chose a different light armor skin cause that just means they are desperate to release items into the gem stores which is acceptable (Given they only have 2 weeks to design each armor)
I totally lost faith in this game.
I was havign complaints on new things introduced, but this is beyond that. They are destroying the things that made some of us feel kind of unique and rubbing it in our faces (skins or fractal levels for some others)
But well, we were complaining that ascended gear was not how GW2 should be. This is their clear answer : skins no longer mean anything in this game. I feel it was intentional.
Want to feel unique? Join the grinding wagon for ascended. They are clearly putting all the skins for gems from now on.
Don’t like vertical progression? Move along. GW2 is no longer what I thought.
Will stay here the time a new appealing game comes out. No longer any need to stay here when another generic vertical progression MMO comes out.
Sad. Really sad.
biggest slap in the face from anet
gem store’s one thing they’ve got going for them and this is their announcement that they stopped trying even for that
It’s pretty obvious… sales are down, gem sales are down, people are leaving for MMO’s that are currently in Beta…
They are making a few final cash grabs to get as much money as they can before this game goes belly up.
If they do it for the human cultural armour then it should be for all cultural armours. Either open them up for everyone or not at all….

lol no. The whole set costs 120 gold. They should cost at least 1000+ for the set and if they do that those of us with the armor should get a set of it for free.
Buy all the flame dyes! Another T3 set for my ele, guess I could try cond gear for once.
I totally lost faith in this game.

I agree with you, I dont know why the lazy artwork and reuse of skins at the gem store. Similarly to this have you all seen this marketing tactic/desperation that GW2 is doing?
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/loadNews/29245
Reused skins plus this?! seems to me that GW2 is going broke.
The blatant desperation is becoming a bit embarrassing.
