Cursed Shore - Priests of Grenth
lolz yea. im loving all temple boss fights except for this one , it’s ridiculous
Massive AOE in a big confusion of players running arround DOESN’T HELP. I can’t even find myself what more run away from the AOE areas :X
Asura thing.
I haven’t gotten a chance to try it yet, but has anyone tried not zerging it. I’ve always seen people in chat claim that 10+ were needed to complete (the old) Grenth, but it was easy enough to duo.
From the patch notes:
The difficulty of events to claim and defend the Orrian temples and the Gates to Arah will now scale to accommodate a larger number of players.
I was late, ran in and started resing people did not think anything of it since he does have a strong attack that can catch some people. Next thing I know I am dead and everyone in the room is dead. Was a little surprised to say the least. It has been done by a group so it is possible whether it is worth doing in its current state is another matter. Will try a few more times and if it is more hassle than joy will just leave it, lots to do otherwise.
I tried this event with my Mesmer yesterday 2 times. People were calling for help, so I went and when I got there everyone was dead. There was probably 50 people there, it was a sad sight to see them all dead. The AoE of the Priest was just ridiculous, multiple overlapping AoE’s across the entire room!
After rezzing those I could, I pulled back behind the WP to fight the ads that spawned, and next minute, I was somehow instantly shot/pulled or whatever from behind the WP to where the skill point is, which is a long way away from where I was and was instantly dead. That was really weird and disorienting since no enemies were near me when it happened. I thought it may be a glitch, but on the subsequent attempt, it happened again, almost exactly the same scenario and not just me, same thing happened to my friend who was with me, so in the end, I gave up as everyone else did.
The event is over-tuned. It’s possible to mitigate the AOE by spreading out, but it still does way too much damage on top of being nearly impossible to avoid.
The unfortunate side-effect is people will probably begin ignoring the temple altogether, much like Priest of Balthazar before yesterday’s patch.
We took it down on SoR yesterday so it’s definitely possible

Nice that we have a extremely challenging encounter in the game.
Good finally a world boss that needs people to communicate to be completed not everyone zerging and attacking the boss smashsing their keyboards.
The people bragging about beating him recommended equipping swiftness for the run-back. I don’t think ArenaNet removed res-rushing in dungeons only to make it necessary for a world boss.
The problem isn’t that the boss is difficult so much that the AOE is blatantly over-tuned. It’s way too difficult to avoid for how much damage it does, particularly in large groups.
Yeah…what with the ‘are AoEs a problem’ discussion, maybe we should talk about monster AoEs
It’s just frustrating to die because you already spent your dodges on big red circles, only to have another 5 or so popping up with you at the center. (I tried to help today, too – I didn’t even manage to get downed, I was somehow instantly dead. Not fun.)
I feel for the people who haven’t yet gotten that skill point behind him… Wait.. oh yeah I have alts.
Isn’t this the same boss that people constantly fail on purpose to farm? Maybe the dev’s decided to get a lil’ pay back. I have only been there twice. Once to get that skill point and a second time, following the chain of events. Promise I’m not trolling, just asking if this is the one that people fail on purpose? (to clarify: when I say fail I obviously don’t mean die. )
Devs: Trait Challenge Issued
We did it for the 3rd time on sanctum of rall, currently the only tactic for doing it is zerg rezzing and hoping you can run fast enough and have enough people to keep it going. Oh you can be clever and try to dodge and be all slick, but eventually your energy will run out and he will get you, or else the shades get the npc. All hits are 1 shot kills, there is absolutely zero room for error. And forget trying to rez people, the more you try to rez, the more you die until it’s nothing but a rezfest and no one can even damage the boss because we’re too busy trying to rez. It took us a solid 1.5 hours to bring him down this last time…balance? still looking for it edit: should probably add we had close to 200 people on it and it still took that long

That’s just too long for an open world event :/ Especially seeing how champions STILL don’t always drop something for everyone in such zerg events.

He is supposed to be a very challenging encounter, but currently he is a wee bit too nasty. We will do some fine tuning in an upcoming build.

the question is…is it worth to do this event? If he’s now more challenging, is the loot better from the chest?

Thanks for the update. I was wondering if it was my noobishness with the event or that it wasn’t all me :p

Not from what I saw, I was in the process of rezzing and running back when he was killed so I got no loot nor chest after all that time, but a few people linked what they had and it was blues/greens mostly, a few random rares here and there. One guy only got 1 blue bow O^O only 3 people got loot from the actual boss (or only 3 linked it in chat) and they were blues. It’s good to know at least he is in fact overtuned and this is not as they intended him to be, so there’s a relief. I can wait until he’s fixed to attempt this again…trust me. It was the single most painful experience of all my years of gaming.

Wee bit too nasty is an understatement lol…but I really do appreciate your response on this. It was a rather unpleasant experience but we all stuck it out nonetheless. I just feel sorry for all the newbies first coming to that zone who had to see the colorful things we were inventing to say in chat haha. One day I’ll look back and laugh at this I’m sure, but today Im just gonna grab a beer and try to forget it lol.

I’m pretty sure he’s more than a “wee bit too nasty”. It’s a very different experience than from before the Jan 28 update.
Last night every temple was open on Yak’s except Grenth. Every attempt I participated in was epic fail (lol yeah maybe because I was there).
I like that there are fewer little ice elementals running all over the place. I’ve not been in a fight to see if there is more than one wave of Shades. I thought it was odd to die from the ceiling fall ability Grenth has (no downed state after fall. instant death), but when I use a waypoint I had no damage to gear… (curious, but I don’t mind not paying to repair). I sometimes was in a dodge roll as I fell from ceiling and lived with a sliver of health, and often that dodge put me into another circle to finish me off. I kept focusing on the Shades and didn’t see any “tells” from Grenth animation. Next time, I will ignore the Shades and watch Grenth to see the wind up animations that are “telling” what AOE is coming. /shrug

Either that or put (much) better loot into the chest. Yesterday (Tuesday) we have done the event and actually no one recived more than green items. (as far, no one said he had a rare or exotoic)

I don’t understand the current grenth encounter. I’ve done grenth several times and never noticed the mechanic where you randomly get teleported into the air and then fall and die. I was killing a few shades when all of a sudden, no warning from anywhere, I got ported into the air and fell and instadied. It made no sense, and I’ve never seen a mechanic in this game like that prior to this incident. That’s how the majority of people I was killing grenth with died as well.
