Macros, you can use them as long as they arent macros.
Remember to buy the officially endorsed GW2 Steel Series Keyboard, it supports macros!

In GW3 maybe, though they might surprise you and go with an up to date DX13.

Adding DX11 support would be a major change to the core game, something that isn’t done casually. Outside of a major expansion with an overhaul, I wouldn’t expect it to happen. Furthermore, considering just how many basic features they still need to implement and just how long it has taken to add those features, I just don’t see it happening. They probably don’t have the in-house resources to do it either, just like how they had to get specialists in to counter botting.

If they were going to work on it though, it probably wouldn’t be implemented anytime within the next 5 or so years.

ArenaNet might do like other games and add extra snazz with DX11 while still supporting DX9. I think most people would rather they add core gameplay like guildhalls etc etc first though. Perhaps they’ll add DX10+ support in an expansion

Except they do have a Mac version in permanent Beta using an Dx9/Windows SDK emulator. At least I’m pretty sure it’s not a native OS X version.

Anyways since the game will Soon™ be released in Asia and Asia (re: China) still has a sizable XP population, I don’t see them working on a Dx 11 version any time soon.

Having it in Direct X 11 would upset people with Direct X 10 cards, which there is still a fairly high number of compared to DX9 cards now. I could see this game going as far as DX10 for now but not DX11 and I highly doubt GW2 will upgrade to DX10 to begin with. If there is a ‘Guild Wars 3’ game in the future, maybe it will use Direct X 11. But it doesn’t really matter though, the game looks great either way.

As somebody who actually ran this game on a 32bit DX9 system, I can confirm that this client is an absolute joke.

If they dare show their face in WinXP dominated Asia with this falsely advertised DX9 game, then NCSoft will instantly become a laughing stock in their main market.
ANet will not like the outcome of that.

The two big things in Dx11 that I can think of are tessellation (dynamic mesh based on distance, allows smoother more detailed model up close) and the ability to multithread the rendering loop “easily”.

Personally I think that tessellation is oversold as a “feature”.

Tessellation is great making really pretty demos and impressive screen shots. But when you are in a middle of an Ogre mob will you notice the deep wrinkles in it’s skin or how much better his knuckles are formed as you are spamming your attacks?

As for the EVE demo. One ship, 500 million triangles, most less than a pixel or two in size (only 3.7 million pixels at 2560×1440). This is one ship in space, using displacement mapping with tessellation instead of bump mapping. Relatively simply lighting. No particle effects.

Let me show you another case of tessellation overkill. Crysis 2 added a Dx11 patch, game was originally Dx9.

http://techreport.com/review/21404/crysis-2-tessellation-too-much-of-a-good-thing

It’s that kind of overkill that’s all to common in Dx11 tessellation (see EVE demo). Here’s a tree trunk with 100,000 triangles. Here is a single leaf with 5,000. Now here’s a forest made up of those trees covered in those leaves. Crap, 99.9999% of all triangles are under one pixel in size, except the tree you are right next to. What realistic looking bark. What the tessallator gives you the scaler takes away.

It’s like one of my points against about DoF effects. You are going to supersample a texture with 4x/8x/16x AF and then smooth the edges with 4xMSAA and then using the depth map do a blur pass so the carefully, textured object that the hardware just rendered looks like a smudge because it’s far enough away.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

I am probably biased since I still play Settlers 2 relatively often.

That said, I don’t care one bit about graphics. The Guild Wars 1 graphics were more than enough for me, and this silly arm race has gone too far. If a game like Crysis would halve the resources for graphics and put in towards gameplay and story instead, it might have been an enjoyable game. Everyone loses because consumers get worse games with pretty graphics, costing tons of money in arguably useless upgrades.

Whether or not GW2 should go with DirectX 11 hinges entirely on the cost. If it’s as trivial as recompiling, sure why not. If it means overhauling the entire engine for absolutely no reason, I’d rather they did not. Such resources are better spent elsewhere.

Why can’t people simply like the game for what it is. Chess has used Stanton pieces for over a century now, and most cosmetic “improvements” tend to flop hard. Pretty games ain’t automagically good.

Is there anyone in this thread who can claim with a straight game that GW2 doesn’t look good enough?

I actually think that Crysis (all parts) have definitely better story line telling than GW2.

GW2 is fun, I don’t mind clipping issues. Please focus on what’s important. Who sincerely cares about such silly details? Clipping issues exist in almost all games, and in MMOs they’re almost inevitable. And if you don’t find GW2 fun, fixing clipping won’t change that.

I do have a decent DX11 capable videocard, but I’ve also seen a lot of shoddy games with good graphics, and good games with shoddy graphics. It simply doesn’t matter one bit to me, which is why I don’t want a.net to waste money on improving something which is already quite good.

That said, money is less of an issue to me than for a.net. A brand new videocard is 400 euro, also known as pocket change. Changing an entire engine could potentially cost millions, which is quite a bit. Those millions could probably be spent on more useful projects, given that the game already looks pretty good.

Heck, games like Dwarf Fortress and Uplink show just how irrelevant graphics are if the gameplay is good.

Hey i craft a legendary sword, takes me months, i spend all my money to see it clip through earth when stowed. Like wth??? Is this acceptable to you?

You wouldn’t like the answer but I’ll give a hint. It’s not “no”.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

Ill leave it just here.. Second ss show the ultra amazing quality of textures in GW2. Next 2 ss coming from Crysis 3.

Should i mention that i have highter FPS in Crysis 3 than in GW2?

lol your post reminds me of SW on gamespot and i agree completely. Many mmo players never even played a good looking game so to them playing gw2 in dx9 on medium/low is ‘good enough’

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.

You mean in Crysis 3 you are fighting in a place where 50vs50 players are fighting on your screen? Or 50vs1 in case of world bosses. I must’ve missed something.

Better take 3 screenshots of Crysis 3 with DX9, DX10 and DX11 so we see the difference

Exhibit A: Proving once again how gamers are not known for their intelligence.

Are you trying to tell US that a linear shooter that is less than 1/50 of the size of an MMO and whose only reason for existing is to showcase a powerful engine has better graphics and detail than an MMO, call the press.

are also trying to tell me that a game that has to render about 100+ players in one area (WvW),looks plain/flat compare to a game that doesn’t render more than 1 player with different armor, textures etc?

There is a lot for reason why guild wars 2 should go DirectX 11, i am sure, but the arguments you and your fellow “I hate gw2, but i am sure fluffy X would get me to the play game for 2 extra hours before I complain about something else” have valid reasons, but the arguments you guys are making are stupid.

ADDED: better graphics are nice which is why I use Sweetfx, but at least use some decent arguments and stop comparing a single player even with multiplayer mode to an MMO. Yes they are both games, just like apple and oranges are just fruits.

As u know im pro. ~Tomonobu Itagaki

This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.

Seem GW2 will be DX9 for a long long time, From Face book

“For those of you who have been asking about DX11 support for Guild Wars 2, our goal with GW2 has always been to provide a gorgeous fantasy world while at the same time running on a wide range of gaming PCs.

Focusing on DX9 allows us to do this, as it’s a much wider supported graphics API than DX11 is and we wanted our game to reach as many of our fans as possible.

We will be evaluating supporting DX11 post launch. ~RB2”

And that’s bullkitten , since most , if not all PC games that can run on DX11 also have a DX9 option for people with older computers .

Yeah I know and agree with you I just wish the devs will
eventually come around and see things like the rest of the gaming world does sooner than later.

Of course, but what is stated in that quote is not why they didn’t have both DX11 and DX9, Just why it was released with DX9 rather than 11, which makes a lot of sense, since that does not exclude anyone.
