I have Bolt, and I didn’t buy it in any way. I got lucky on a precursor drop after nine months of patience and fortitude. I played the game for the rest of it. I played the whole game; I ran dungeons, did events, and was active in WvW. I spent nine months working on that legendary weapon.

I got the legendary, but not to impress you; who are you, after all, that I would need to impress you? I got the legendary because it was a long term goal. It gave me something to work towards after reaching level 80.

Legendaries don’t impress me, but I do pity those who feel the need to be so vapid towards them. Legendaries really aren’t so special; it’s true – and yet, whatever junk weapon you’re using doesn’t have a fraction of the threads on these or other forums devoted to it as do the legendaries.

As for legendary wielders being bad in WvW. Three thieves yesterday thought that also. They ambushed me while I was strolling along all by my lonesome. Three against one. Thieves against a warrior. They died, and then died again, because they just couldn’t believe that a legendary wielder might just be legendary himself. I am legend. My weapon is merely a warning, and the only one you’ll get. Come at me.

Simple question really, do seeing a person with a legendary make you go like; “Ohhh!”, are you indifferent, or another reaction?

Somewhere in the middle. I very much enjoy seeing them, and I’m happy for the other player, feel mild respect at the time and effort that (probably) went into it, and then I look forward to getting my own.

Is there any reputation on getting one?

I think it’s a mistake to assume a stranger will care two figs for what I do in a game. Strangers are very invested in their OWN achievements and care very little for mine.

Would you go for it for the reputation or for the looks?

I do it for the sense of personal achievement and the looks. Both mean a lot to me.

If it became harder/easier would you appreciate it more/less?

Unequivocally YES to both. And YES again.

If you do appreciate something from legendaries or its users, what is it?

I enjoy the long process to get one, and that it encourages me to play multiple aspects of the game. It’s engrossing for me, and I’m extremely glad Anet put them in the game. I do not want to see them made “easier” to acquire (with the exception of giving alternative paths to get a precursor, which I am in favor of, but not necessarily “easier” paths). I don’t care if they are common or rare – what other people do or don’t do doesn’t diminish (or increase) my own achievement.

disclosure: I have 3 legendaries

When I see another person with a legendary I think it’s safe to assume that they know how to play the game and their class and at a minimum they’re a pretty reactive player.

Meaning, if I were to see them in a dungeon, I don’t necessarily expect them to know the path, but know their class and capabilities.

I think people are overestimating the number of folks who buy their legendaries with credit cards. That’s different than people who buy their legendaries with gold generated in game.

Legendaries aren’t as prestigious as they are before, and I think the hardcore players right now should probably have at least 2 legendaries by now.

But it’s nice to have a weapon that is still exclusive

I don’t usually pay too much attention to what others are wearing or wielding to be honest. Occasionally something might catch my eye, at which point I’ll take note long enough to determine if I like it…ie, would that fit into my personal style somewhere.

It seems like the majority of players care what others think of their armor/weapons, but honestly I don’t. I wear what I like, wield what I like and to kitten with anyone else’s opinion. They don’t have to live with it for the duration of the char’s life, I do. I don’t dress to impress anybody except myself =)

If they like what they have, cool. If they like what I have, fine. If not, oh well, not my loss. To each their own.

Edit: To specifically address the title’s question, the answer would be ‘no’ (if that wasn’t clear from the above ramble). Wielding a legendary doesn’t mean squat at this point simply due to the fact that they are far too easy to attain.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I feel impressive when I have my Howler out. Not because I have one but because how I acquired it. I played the game. I funded my Legendary doing what I love, World vs World.

Never farmed CoF
Never bought gold/gems
Never played the TP
Never got RNG drop
Farmed all my mats – laurels, WvW drops
Never farmed Orr or broken events
Did my clovers when globs were 32s (371 used) and coins were 11s
Did meta events when character bound for 2 weeks before that changed – 4 toons, was actually really tough to work out.

I did it for ME. Not to impress anyone else or to show off. I did it because I know that when I hold it or run into a fight with Howler howling away, that it is where it belongs… in battle.

At first I was neutral to legendaries-hey if you want to punish yourself and grind to be literally no better of than me that’s your busniess. However after playing with multiple people with legendaries I see them as harbingers of low self esteem/very low competence/elitism now-someone addressed it before as well; that one guy with the legendary in your party is perma-downed making excuses ‘oh that’s strange-this never happens before, maybe the game is bugged’ or ALWAYS rushes ahead to be the ‘leader’ or ALWAYS is the first to throw a tantrum with petty insults thrown all over the place and ALWAYS act as if w/e way they do things is the one and only way to do things………commence eye rolling of epic proportions.

I think the players are their greatest enemy when it comes to the perception others have towards legendaries (the player think it makes them look cool) but that mindset makes them act like total fools with a big shiny ‘look at me, I matter’ sign over their head. Result? That ‘look at me, I matter’ sign makes people think ‘oh Lord…this one’s a fool isn’t it?’ rather than actually make them look cool-so there is a reputation as far as I’m concerned…thought a ‘stigma’ would probably be more accurate.

Would I get one? If one fell in my lap I’d say 50-50 keeping/selling in light of the added functionality to legendaries but for me to grind/buy one? Ha…hell no.

Anything worth appreciating? Well…I’ve already divulged my experience with people with legendaries (on a tangent I’ve noticed people with very high AP’s tend to act the same way…almost want to stop gaining AP’s so as to not be lumped with that lot tbh). Hmm…now that I think of it….no…there’s nothing I appreciate regarding legendaries. Sure they have elaborate particle effects but I find them to be obnoxious-the effects from named exotics are what I appreciate…….although a great many of them I will not get, still I like seeing them in action

Like most, no. I don’t care if you crafted it or bought it. There is nothing impressive whatsoever about these “legendary” weapons.

A Legendary weapon shouldn’t be something that is crafted or bought. It defeats the whole purpose of it being a Legendary. A Legendary weapon should have a Legend behind it, thus why it is called a Legendary. It shouldn’t be something that you just spend a lot of gold on or RNG in the mystic toilet over. There is absolutely nothing Legendary about that.

They are just fancy skins, and that is all they ever will be. Until some sort of epic storyline is put behind getting one of these weapons, they will never ever be considered Legendary. Anet should seriously change the name of them to something else cause calling them Legendary is an insult. When a weapon requires a ton of gold and playing the RNG game in the mystic toilet, or spending tons of gold on the TP to get it, it is not at all deserving of the title Legendary.

Thus there is nothing impressive about them. It just proves how much you can grind or how much money you have.

No they don’t impress me but no item in the game impresses me. Even the items I put a lot of game time in to acquire don’t impress me. I just enjoy the fact that I had fun along the path to obtaining them. It is just a video game.

I vary rarely even look at other players armor and weapons. I had a thread awhile back asking if players look at others armor and many people said no or rarely. Actually some of the legendarys bug me slightly, specifically the great swords. It is not uncommon to stand in an area or traveling in the opposite direction of a player and have them spam an attack skill in your face I suppose to try and show off. I’ve seen people do it for several minutes in certain areas. It just makes me think of the line, “cool story bro.”

On the other hand I can see how many player’s have a sense of enjoyment and excitement having a legendary. From what I have read around these forums, to many it is the ultimate prize at this point in the game. I imagine if I wanted one and obtained it without buying it from gems to gold transactions I would be rather pleased as well. I doubt I would go around spamming it in player’s faces though.

There are lots of misconceptions on legendary users here that are pretty sad to see. I made Sunrise some months ago. Facts :

1. No real money spent.
2. Never dropped a single precursor.
3. No repetitive & stupid gold farming. I couldn’t farm shelt/pen with my mesmer anyway. I have never done CoF twice in a row. I stopped farming Air elementals after 3 hours and no lodestone drop. Never “farmed” T6 mats.
4. “Reasonable” game time (less than 1k hours of play).
5. It was a personal achievement more than anything else. Part of the idea was filling the login screen, get some achievement points and maintain the long term goal. I chose Sunrise specifically because it’s “Aurore” in french which is the name of my daughter. She’s 2 year-old and she now comes sometimes to me saying “voir épée aurore ?” (translation : “see sword sunrise ?”) and that’s adorable
6. Aside from trying to get the precursor from the Forge (which is more painful than it should that is true), I enjoyed the whole adventure to get it (yes, even the clover gamble). Exploration, Dungeons, WvW, Events, Crafting … It was fun !

People should stop seeing in Legendaries an awful grind and in legendary users nolife gamers who grinds until they die . Heck, I played GW1 for 3k+ hours and never bought an Obsidian armour especially because it was too much of a grind.

I’m just a normal gamer who enjoys almost all part of the game and managed to get a good portion of what was needed just by playing the game the way I want (aside from the precursor).

If it someone that has grinded CoF or Orr for hundreds of hours, lucky drop, or spent 10g in the mystic forge…. no.

If it’s someone that’s saved up gold from genuinely loving the game, and has taken part of all aspects of it, then yes…. good on you.

For me it’s about how you got the item, not the pixels. I laugh at all the warriors running around with Twilight thinking how many hundreds of hours they spent in a single instance.

Legendary weapons don’t necessarily impress me. I do know what it’s like to go through that grind (I have the Bifrost) and I think being able to stick with it to the end is impressive (or pure insanity). I like many of the current legendaries and dislike several others. I think if a legendary works well with the rest of the look a player is going for, then it can be just what’s needed to complete the look. Or not. It really depends on what you like and don’t like. So for me it’s all about choosing the skins you like the most and not choosing the rarest weapon type simply because you can.

Because the mace is absolutely atrocious. I’m a mace guard and someone would have to pay me to equip that mess.

I’m also a mace guardian and I have to agree. I do think the Moot is a good joke item…but it isn’t worth the legendary grind to obtain. I think the fractal mace is currently the best looking mace in the game. And naturally, that’s what I’m using.

Before you get a Legendary: “Omg its so stupid, its just a skin, it doesnt impress me at all, lulz”

After you get a Legendary: “I am pure awesome, look at all these schmucks that dont have the weapon I have, bow down before me!”

The thing with a Legendary is thakittens really quite impressive either way. Did you work your kitten off to get it, endured painfull Arah sections, farms, etc? Or did you spend $500 to buy it outright? The first thing impresses me just as much as the last thing does. I dont care who they are, but I want to be friends with the one that can throw that amount of money at a skin. It will be like “Hey buddy, can you get a QP cheese at the burger resturant, I’m a little busy now. Here’s $200, I hope its enough. Keep the change”

The one legendary I would love to own would be the Flameseeker Prophecies. I love the detail in the drawings. That said, I’d want something that is rare. The underwater weapons are actually pretty funky and unique. Not many people have them.

I’m not a fan of the greatswords. I’m plain disappointed with Bolt. But I envy a few with the unique ones

As an owner of two, who grinded for the honour, am happy to share my experience.

Dreamer owners are like a specialty car club. We wave and nod, sometimes getting into a chat. Non-owners are either hot or cold in their comments.. Either a sad quip of admonishment that they would never waste their money on it and it should be taken out of the game, or wow that’s amazing, how long did it take? I ignore and block the former, and chat happily with the latter. I try to be helpful and answer questions, not brag.

Twilight gets less comment, other than “I want that!” The expectation of being a leader, is higher. Not as much negative. Once again, I am happy to answer questions and help people with their quests.

The mot important aspect is expectation. Players expect that I know what I’m doing, so I try to always be on my A-game and represent Tyria honourably. I can tell quite quickly who spent their time trading to get one and who just bought. With 2600+ hours in the game, and two world completions, I have enough of a clue to support my weapon.

Last night, a commander in TS told his friends that he was all right, being short of players in his squad, because he had a legendary with him. Of course, I knew I had to back that up and put down the extra effort.

I’m not an elitist, I am a lover of Guild Wars 2, and for me the Legendary is the ultimate quest. Only now that I have two would I consider buying number three, and simply because it is starting to look like a better deal, economically speaking. I already have my badges and world completion ready….who knows.. I’m waiting to see what comes next, and saving my coppers.

Somewhere between indifferent and don’t care. I see them, but don’t usually think anything about them. Eventually I might get my own (still waiting for the precursor scavenger hunt before I even really start thinking about getting one). Its the same with any other skins. Though the BLTC ones (ones gotten from tickets) cause me hatred, just because they’re locked behind real money gambling, with extremely low drop chance.

Much like Rozbuska though, people more seem to care about my overall look and armor than the legendaries themselves. It’s flattering to get comments about my in-game avatar though. =)

Here you gamble, play the market, grind for mats or gold or just flat out pay real money for them. I wish they had some kind of story/lore behind the weapons.

I don’t care if anyone owns or wears a special item. Why should I? It is a game. Each and every player given a certain time can get him- or herself such an item. So no, there is no reputation to earn.

Only for the looks. Currently I think most of them are totally ugly, but there is hope for the next ones they will offer.

I don’t care how hard or easy it is to get. Only the RNG clover nonsense is bad design.

Either the person is pure 100% elitist with Abyss + Golden Title (Ummm? Hello is this the new Black dyed Obsidian or something? I have abyss and golden title too but I flaunt my “Closer to the Stars” title because I love Cantha. And I use Celestial because it reminds me of the same Mission with getting Closer to the Stars! )

Have honest and sincere devotion. <- These are the guys/girls that take my eye

Have money. No thoughts. If you’re rich, you’re rich.

Grinded for it. Honestly I could care less if you grinded for it. If you did, you deserved it. I grinded for my Obsidian + Chaos Gloves in GW1, not to look “rich” but because I thought it looked nice.

For myself, I have a different way of seeing my goal for my Legendary (Bolt or Sunrise).
I loved playing Fire Emblem, and Sunrise looks so much like it should belong in one of those games. While for Bolt, I also loved playing the PS3 game inFamous, and figured it would be a nice tribute

what impresses me;

1) player skill.

That.

Legendaries are a matter of grind and luck. Neither deserves a reward, much less admiration.

The only value they have is their appearance, but for that it doesn’t make any difference if there is only a single Legendary in the game, or if everyone has one – the skin doesn’t change the more people have it.

I think it’s rather immature to have an item because it’s rare, as opposed to because one likes how it looks. This need for external validation is easy to understand in small kids… Not in adults.

Legendary weapons are tainted by their own creation process. It’s all reduced to luck and farming. I feel that this is an unrecoverable mistake even if/when the introduce new ones. Maybe not for new(er) players.

Consider lottery winners in real life. The nightly news will mention them for a couple of minutes and then …. nothing. If this is not their first win then maybe a few more minutes.

do seeing a person with a legendary make you go like; “Ohhh!”, are you indifferent, or another reaction?

Is there any reputation on getting one?

Would you go for it for the reputation or for the looks?

If it became harder/easier would you appreciate it more/less?

If you do appreciate something from legendaries or its users, what is it?

-If it goes well with the rest of their look, then yeah, I might look at them and admire the overall aesthetic. Plenty of purposefully obnoxious looking characters carrying around awesome looking weapons though…

-A reputation? I don’t think so… Unless you are involved with PvP somehow… But that’s all one big banana-stroking ego-fest anyway…

-If I wanted a Legendary weapon, I’d go for the looks…

-Not really… Having one shows you are dedicated enough to the game to get one. And hey, good for you! Nothing wrong with that.

-The above-mentioned dedication to the game. If you did it the ‘honest’ way and got it for yourself, then good on you! You put the time and effort (and had the luck) in to get one!
If you got one by getting gold in-game (dungeon runs, farming mats, selling stuff, running events, etc…) then good on you! You put the time and effort to get the gold to buy one!
If you used real money to buy gems to get the gold to buy a Legendary, then… Well, congrats! You got a Legendary. You dumped a lot of money into a game I like playing so you could buy one! Thanks for your support!

….Most people can’t even afford a precursor. TP or grind?

Some of both! I’m actually on the game like a lot anyway.

Just a legendary doesn’t really impress me. Someone that shows that spent some time creating a character that makes sense wielding that legendary, does.

For example, having a heavily armored dark knight style character wielding the moot doesn’t really look good to me… but I’ve also seen afro characters with armor died to look like it would be at home in the 70’s wielding it, and I liked how it looked.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

No. I am impressed by skill and knowledge. Not by mindless grind.

Can’t say I pay a lot of attention to what other players are packing … but assuming I DID notice, nah, wouldn’t impress me … not the weapon, nor the person behind the char … i don’t spend a lot of time checking out what my neighbors’ have got in their backyard — got enough on my hands with keeping track of my own.
