Do Legendary User Impress You?
Where does this idea of people buying Legendary come from? I have yet to come across someone who bought his Legendary.
People who hold such weapon are often very skilled player because they played A LOT and that’s how you become good at something, by doing it over and over.
And what’s wrong with farming to get a Legendary? I know you guys want something HARD not long, but then 1 year later everyone is going to be holding one. While it takes a real dedicated player to decide to invest 300 hours into one weapon, not everyone is able to do so.
And please, no matter what you say, Legendary skin are great, unless you’re one of those hipster who wants something not every “everyone” has aka not worth the bang like Mjolnir and Infinite light. There is no way Mjolnir looks better than Juggernault. And Sunrise and Twilight are probably one of the best greatsword skin in the history of MMO and there isn’t that many out there, the 5-10 you see in lion arch are nothing compare to the 250K player loggin on everyday (number from China Report on GW2)

Because you basically have to buy the precursor and 60% of the materials from the TP.

Skilled =/= A lot of playtime
I know loads of people who owns a legendary, and they are really, really, really horrible players.
They stand in AoE circels, they can’t dodge, their traits is completely off with what they use. They do the same mistake over, and over, and over again.
There is -nothing- with a legendary that shows if a player is skilled or not.
No material needed for a legendary has anything to do with skill, only time, farming and a lot of luck.
Simple question really, do seeing a person with a legendary make you go like; “Ohhh!”, are you indifferent, or another reaction?
Is there any reputation on getting one?
Would you go for it for the reputation or for the looks?
If it became harder/easier would you appreciate it more/less?
If you do appreciate something from legendaries or its users, what is it?
The legendaries look cools, aside of that yes:
In my group of friends until like 2 or 3 months, the norm was: legendary=farmer; and almost farmers arent the most skilled players… so we tried to avoid them.
Until one of my friends got one, does it, later he started to go down in the dungeons…
Not sure how to clasificate that lol.

It impresses me that they’re still playing the game.
I’ll be impressed by a legendary the day that Anet provides a title by which people who crafted their legendary can be distinguished from those who bought it outright.

It’s the other way around.
Were a Legendary something that required skill, not everyone would get one – players don’t become more skilled linearly as time goes by, considering how many people don’t even bother to improve their skills.
But Legendaries are just time gated. The guy who plays 10 hours per day every day could dedicate 30 days farming to get a Legendary… But the guy who players one hour per day will have played the same amount of time in 300 days. Which means, given enough time playing, anyone could have a Legendary.

No. If legendary items were earned through skill..then yeah. But legendary items are based on luck and grinding.
I am far more impressed with players who have PvP armor.
No skill involved in getting a legendary. People just rolly polly around in CoF or open world for hours on end to farm gold. So hard.

But then skilled player would keep getting Legendaries over and over, sell them until they reach a ridiculous price that any player could affort, which Iv’e seen happening in every MMO I played. Only difference with other MMO ( God bless A Net) we don’t have a ridiculous Upgrade system with failure and break that make the top Gear stay expensive because they are +10 or whatever.
I am not sure why folks are saying that certain dye jobs are elitist? It’s not like Abyss and celestial are the most expensive dyes nowadays.

That’s the same as saying that, under the current time-based system, players with a lot of time would keep getting Legendaries over and over, sell them until they reach a ridiculous price that any player could afford.

The weapons look pretty cool, and you’ve got to respect the effort the player has put into getting them. Not that big a deal in the larger scheme of things, though.
Running a sub-4 minute mile impresses me. Bench pressing 400 lbs impresses me. Speaking 3 languages impresses me. Playing 4 instruments proficiently impresses me.
Having access to a collection of pixels in a video game does not.

The last place I would probably go to be impressed. is an online video game..
But that’s just me.
Ever think people have a legendary because they like it and not to impress others? I have slowly been working toward mine since launch. I don’t grind and play as much as some. I know I will get there eventually. I just like taking my time and enjoying the game. If I didn’t like any of the skins I wouldn’t waste the time. But on topic they aren’t as impressive to see anymore because the game has been out nearly a year so many people have them. They are becoming quite a common sight.
I find a player wielding Infinite Light far more impressive than a player wielding a Legendary. Though I guess since you can buy it off the TP, it isn’t that impressive too.
I mean, while skins are the “end game” to Guild Wars 2, I always felt that the way players use the skins they’ve acquired is what makes them cool.
I’m more impressed with PvP titles than legendaries. The QP titles are especially prestigious to me.
Simple question really, do seeing a person with a legendary make you go like; “Ohhh!”, are you indifferent, or another reaction?

There are two things that impress me in life regardless of what it pertains to. People that do something others don’t have the skill or physical prowess to do, and people who can lead others. Legendaries are not challenging to obtain, they just require a lot of one of two resources, time or money. Showing people you have a lot of time or money to spend in game is not impressive. If legendaries were associated with an incredibly difficult challenge, they would impress me.
Respected people in WvW and PvP are impressive, especially Commanders who can coordinate well. It’s hard in general for me to be impressed with someone over PvE, because it’s not very challenging in my opinion.

“Everyone running with Twilight and Sunrise” “pure grind and RNG” “rich people or no-life grinders/farmers”
All I see in this thread is pure and blatant overexagerations and envy. And I don’t even own a legendary.
Some of the legendaries are impressive looking, but even if they are not, they take quite the effort and dedication, that’s enough to impress me. If you bought it directly with gold, or cash>gem>gold, good, you are supporting the game we are all paying nothing to play (besides the box ofc), impressive as well.
My answer is yes, definetly, I wish I had one, or two… but I don’t have the time and I’ve been waiting for craftable precursors since they named the great scavanger hunt back in beta (?) as I’m a little turned off by the mystic toilet. Even then, it will be done mostly alone by me playing the game normally, as a long term achievement.

Excuse you? I’m not jealous of the player running around with a Legendary. It’s great that they have one, but I don’t give a skritt either way. Let’s face it, Legendary weapons are going to become a common sight the older the game gets, because that’s something almost all players go for once they hit 80 on one or two of their characters.
Does this diminish their value? Maybe. I mean, it’s clear that it is seeing the responses in this thread.
Personally, I’ve never really found any of the currently obtainable Legendary weapons that impressive due to personal taste.
People who hold such weapon are often very skilled player because they played A LOT and that’s how you become good at something, by doing it over and over.
Based on this logic, Chinese gold farmers are hands down the BEST mmo players who have ever lived.
I’m indifferent to Legendary wielders. I like some of the Legendaries, but I’m not getting them on my characters due to clashing aesthetic goals. (Bifrost on a grim, dark, minion master Necro? Really?)
If someone is using a Legendary because they like how they look on their characters, I’m happy for them. If they’re using a Legendary and they want me to tell them I’m totally wow’ed and in awe of them, then keep moving. I generally don’t care what other people are using. It’s whether or not the person likes the Legendary for itself that’s important, otherwise you’re no different to that guy who buys expensive cars and drives around just looking for compliments about his car.

When I`m roaming in WvW legendary “users” = free kills (more often than not).
We should be able to ctrl+click the gold in our banks. Then try telling me that im ’’envious’’ of your bow that shoots rainbows and unicorns.

Soulbound on acquire. Now unskilled players with too much money/gold can’t just buy it.
It’s great that they have one, but I don’t give a skritt either way.
Now that is what needs to be replacing curse words. Skritt is so much better than kitten.

It does not. Most look stupid to me.
I am impressed by the excuses envious people come up to detract from others though.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
I am impressed by the amount of attention this thread is getting, legendary weapons seem to be a pretty big deal to a lot of people.
Honestly I’ve never really been impressed by legendaries. Part of the reason is it seems like people who get Legendaries make no attempt to even match their gear. Or if they do, it’s Twilight with the typical red/black color scheme (although that I blame on Twilight itself).
To me, a well put together matching outfit with a simple long sword is hundreds of times more impressive and interesting then a Legendary by itself. That’s not to say I have not seen some very nice Dawn + armor combos.
That being said, I prefer my corrupted weapons over the legendaries.

I don’t know! Everyone seems to run around telling me how awesome my golden charr warrior with flowers everywhere is <.<
Nope, and never have been.
I make it my mission to kill anyone wielding a legendary greatsword on an opposing server. Call it childish but I always want to test to see if they’ve earned it.
Devona’s Rest [OHai][GloB]
Well, I have one, so it’s hard to say. Months ago I’d have thought ‘Blimey, how’d they manage that already?’ but at this stage it’s…not easy, certainly, but there’s been a lot more time to build up the materials for it. Saying that I don’t desperately feel like I’ve achieved something amazing, and I don’t know that I’ve have bothered had I not been very lucky with MF in Southsun to have a precursor drop, as I am not sure I could have been bothered trying to grind the 400-something gold.
For me it was as much a ‘futureproofing’ investment against higher tiers of gear being added as it was about the skin looking good on my toon (in some ways I prefer my old exotic, honestly, as it was monochrome and did not make noise! Sometimes I don’t hear the birds chirping much but other times I’m in a dungeon and I feel like freaking Snow White with the constant ‘cheepy cheepy cheep!!’)
Yes, I am a ranger with a bear and a longbow…but I swap to axe/horn and canines in WvW and have probably spent more time there than anywhere else, so, y’know….presume my noobiness at your peril. Not sure why so many people seem to think that anyone with a legendary hasn’t set foot in any PvP areas.

I agree , the yellow star ( world completion )is only a small indication. You get 2 Gift of exploration when you do the 100% world .. only one is needed for a legendary. I crafted Sunrise and i will use my second exploration gift for Rodgort… however this second legendary will go on a Toon which has not 100% world completion yet …. everyone will think I got it directly from the TP because i don’t have the yellow star .. but this is false .. I really put the effort. Legendary should be not tradable and should be account bound on creation.
When you see a legendary what you shouldn’t be thinking about is how the player got it or how much money and time they sunk in. Those are all feelings which is really expressing your hidden jealousy torwards them. What you should see is the weapon by itself. If it looks nice to you then you’re like :o else you see it like every other weapon and move on.
Depends. In PvE, no. In WvW, if they are my ally I expect them to be able to use it. If they are my enemy, I want to test their mettle and see if they are worthy of it. Sadly, most of the time they fail to impress me. Just killed a ranger with twilight and he didn’t even hit me once.
Q-Is there any reputation on getting one?
A-I don’t ascribe anything to someone who has a Legendary based solely upon their having it. No, I am not impressed by someone having one, but I am disinclined to want to be around those that brag about them in chat, flash them about in LA, or have a fetish of linking them in every line of text they type.
Q-Would you go for it for the reputation or for the looks?
A-Neither. I’m not trying to get any. I only like the looks of two, and those aren’t what I find the most desirable skins for their weapon class. I will not be working on getting one for reputation as I don’t believe they warrant a reputation for anything other than putting up with a long toil or a large expenditure.
Q-If it became harder/easier would you appreciate it more/less?
A-It’s a skin and only a skin in my eyes, so no change whatsoever. They are what they are and for me the effort sure wouldn’t be worth the reward/cost.
Q-If you do appreciate something from legendaries or its users, what is it?
A-There are only two legendaries I would ever want to acquire, I only would want them for their aesthetics. The promised stats changing ability will if implemented be an interesting feature, but I’ll still most likely just do what I have been doing and have multiple weapons for variety.
Reputation. What is it? I think the answers to that question will be quite varied between players. I ascribe a positive reputation to a player who I’ve found fun to play with, whose sense of humor I enjoy, and enjoys helping me as much as I enjoy helping them. I ascribe it for playstyle, not their gear.
(edited by Ferguson.2157)
nope they do not impress me one bit, I do like the sound of where they are going with the idea of the new to come legendary items though. I like the idea of doing a epic story like event chain or a number of tough tasks /achievements to earn and mold into a legendary item.
Not even a little. Nothing about purchasing, farming, or getting lucky are in any way impressive.
Could be worse though, every time I see a fused weapon skin I am literally sickened.

Lol, at least I am not alone there. I bought bank space though for all the skins and legendary mats that have been collecting, that I have no intention of using. So, they got some of my gold there. I can’t bring myself to delete them. I have to be the stupidest person I know.
I just hope that the new legendary items cant be bought from the tp…
Impressed…not so much. Do I stop and gawk for a little bit yeah. And people dont have to be rich or have no life to have a legendary all it takes is a consistency, and good planning. Now when the game was 2 months old and people were running around with them thats a different story. But a years time is more than enough time to attain a legendary.
nope, I never care about what other people have unless they are running “whites” in a dungeon and I am teamed with them.

Seeing someone with a legendary is becoming the fastest way to tell if:
a. the player has more time on their hands for RNG crafting
b. the player either bought/earned/farmed/flipped until they had enough cash to buy it
c. the player is a lucky sunny beach.
I repect those players for doign whatever it is they did to get the legendary, but I would have rather seen something like that be the reward for something epic, and be soulbound so that it can’t be resold for more money than I will ever have.
So, the answer is no… they don’t impress me…at least not as much as something that valuable should. Would I be more impressed if they were harder to get? It all depends upon what you mean by “hard”…if you mean “more expensive” or “More RNG” then no… but if the only way you could get one was to reach a certain point in your player’s evolution (i.e. EARN them) and not be able to sell them, then yes..I would be.
