Hello everybody.

I’m starting my journey in search of my legendary and i wonder if it is possible to drop the Precursor of “Twilight,” Dusk.

I’ve been searching on various websites and most say that events in cursed shore have the chance. I wonder if it is true the possibility of the drop and if so, what is the exact number of each monster drop rate, for example, 1-500 monster or 0.1% of each monster.

Thanks in advance and any feedback is welcome.

Based on another active thread in the crafting section, the Mystic Forge drop rate for a precursor (using x4 Legendary weapons @ 80th) is estimated to be at around .3% for each Forge combine. With this in mind, I’m guessing that the open world drop rate is even lower.

ArenaNet has said that the giant dragon events in the various zones do have an “increased” drop rate chance, but no one knows just how much higher that rate really is. Also people have observed that you can sometimes get them in the mega chests that drop after you kill one of the undead god priests. Beyond that, I would say that the drop rate for a precursor is going to be even smaller.

You can run events for fun, but don’t expect to ever get a precursor as a reward for doing one. If you do see one drop, then it’s going to be a very rare and happy surprise.

We are Test Group F. (Don’t ask about what happened to the previous Test Groups.)

I got my dusk off one of the mobs during the Jofast escort event in Cursed Shore.

Precursors absolutely drop off of mobs in Cursed Shore. Just don’t go farming and expect one to drop for you. I’ve been playing +1400 hours, most of them in shelt/pen farming and I’ve only got that Dusk.

You are betteroff farming Cursed Shore and buying your precursors. That’s how I ended up with my other two legendaries.

I should also stress that MF absolutely does work and increases you rare/exotic chance

Here’s an album of all my exotic drops since January with nearly full MF

At lvl 80, most chest have a chance to drop a precursor. However, it is incredibly low. All mobs in orr at level 80 will have a chance to drop precursors too. I’ve been playing this game since release and have not seen one drop of precursor yet. So, it really is a luck thing sometimes lol

I am pretty sure all precursors drop off of mobs. I have gotten a warhorn precursor in the pentinent event in cursed shore. However, getting a precusor that you are aiming for is unlikely, your best bet is just to amass gold and buy it off the TP.

I will try mystic forge, Jofast event and farm in EB.

Try the mystic toilet if throwing away 500g for no result will not worry you.

There are people who post oh wow put in four swords and got dusk on my first try but a lot more that post they poured their entire wealth in and got nothing.

The chances by any current method are miniscule, best advice is do your map completion, do your clovers, do the WvW and dungeons your gifts of and then think about a precourser.
It might drop along the way and by the time your done there might be another way to get it.

Going out to “farm” your precourser means weeks of not getting it and that sense of dissapointment is probably not good for your enjoyment of the game.

It seems that all leads to one factor: Luck.

Its good to know that any enemy lvl 80 can drop even with a very small percentage. An interesting fact is that all I saw about the drop in Cursed Shore took the Penitent, or Jofast Shelter event. As for the farm, I’m thinking in doing the Citadel of Flame Dungeon path 1.

Again, thanks guys, its helps a lot this feedbacks.

> 400g invested. 1600 hours played. 111% MF. Played almost all events to a really big extend, even the Karka-Queen Event with 2 guaranteed Exos per chest. Invested really much money into Gems since the beginning to support ANET. Never a single Precursor drop. Heck I even only got 2 champion weapons (worth 1.5g each) in over 2k Champion Chests .

I guess my Account is REALLY out of luck.

RNG => (finger)

I wonder if they made the Precursor Droprate bound to certain Classes. Everytime I hear of a certain Precursor – It ‘s a Warrior or Guardian that ’s gotten it. I do have all classes at LVL80 but I’m rarely playing with them as I’m more of a experimenting Engineer. But I had the feeling that while playing Warrior i’ve gotten so much more / better drops … lol. Would perfectly fit their PVE-King Warrior.

A.: “Hey mate sssh increase my fellow Warriors droprate a little bit would you”
B.: “But that would count for anyone”
A.: “Errr doesn’t matter Warriors are godlike anyway”

The thing is … Dusk is a rare drop because otherwise legendaries wouldn’t be special. To expect Dusk to drop for everyone (because you’re a nobody like me) is to expect everyone to have Twilight. Doesn’t seem that legendary to me.

300g of items for an 800g gamble is rather cheap. To have won that would be unfair. Expect at least 500+g to be the average.

My advice is to start out with the precursor. Buy it first. All the rest is just pocket change in comparison. Will save you a lot of self griefing.

Those with 3 gifts but no precursor are like people buying 4 tires and waiting to win the Ferrari in a lottery.

My personal advice echos similarly to others, but is slightly different.

I agree that you shouldn’t use the mystic forge unless you’re ABSOLUTELY willing to laugh off a 500+ gold loss.

If you want a sure bet, save your money and get your precursor First. I believe, if you can get what is commonly believed to be the Hardest part of the Legendary first, the rest is definitely obtainable.

As a corollary to that, make sure you get all the purchasable components first, because if you change your mind about the legendary, you could always Sell the stuff on the TP.

Well, let me put it this way.

My guild has 31 active members that have been playing for a year, only 1 of us has had a precursor (zap) drop. So using that as a very, very rough estimate you’re looking at 30 years of play to get 1 random precursor. Now given that there are 20 precursors.....

It’s going to take you on average roughly 600 years of play to get Dusk to drop for you.

You may want to start now....

I had 20g left one day and was like “screw it”. I’ll spend the rest of my 20g on exotic swords and try to help out my guild leader. It’s all he ever needed. I kept telling myself, “You’re only looking for 3 letters.. you’re only looking for 3 letters” as I was dropping them in the forge. 1 shot… 2nd shot… 3rd shot…stared at the screen while on teamspeak “omg omg omg hahahaaaa ohhh Zap!” Guild leader wasn’t on at the time, so when he did get on we went to our guild meeting place and I made a scene about having a family heirloom for many years, and it was time to pass it on. I pass it on to him. The bird flies in over his head, he got mail. “What’s this Moser? Whatcha giving me? DUDE! W..T..F? I mean seriously.. wtf?” All while he is hopping around the room lol. He went to make his Bolt. I felt good helping him out while I really need to get Spark. But everyday passes and I keep telling myself that I should have sold it and finished my gift of fortune. :P

What’s legendary in having luck and drop a precursor? o_O

Compared to Quel’Serrar or Sulfuras in <that other game>, getting Dusk is a piece of cake. The chance involved to get the Eye of Ragnaros was insanely small and it’s exactly that fact which made it special. Same goes for Dusk. it’s special because it’s extremely rare.

If everyone could get Dusk, you wouldn’t want it. That’s a fact. So stop posting and get your priorities straight. Do you want a legendary rare weapon, or do you want a weapon just about everyone can get?

Sure, a precursor could drop while you’re killing some random mob, but the chances of that happening are exceedingly slim. The only guaranteed method of getting the precursor you want is to BUY it. So sharpen up your farming skills or learn how to “play” the AH, ‘cause you’re going to need a lot of gold. Hopefully this will change if they finally introduce a way to craft precursors, but who knows when that’s going happen.

Of course, you could just buy the gold you need and ANET will be more than happy to accommodate you. As an example, $280 worth of gems will net you enough gold to buy Dusk (810g), if you’re interested in crafting Twilight. Or you could avoid all the tediousness and purchase a mere $680 worth of gems and buy Twilight (2000g) outright. (270 gems ~ 10 gold atm)* Chinese gold is no doubt cheaper, but that’s an iffy proposition, at best.

I just have to laugh when people put forth the argument that "A Legendary wouldn’t be “legendary” if everybody could get one", when it’s obvious that everybody CAN get one, if they’ve got a fat enough wallet.

*I hope I didn’t screw up the math, but you get the general idea.

Really? My fire ele (fire/earth) would seem very OP if it weren’t for the crazy wide-area aggro causing bloodlust stacks to drop three times a minute hehe

Eventually I’ll get around to getting Volcanus for my charr guard though, I don’t see any other weapon looking better really. This game needs more weapons fully engulfed in flames maybe even lava footprints. Maybe future precursor crafting will deliver something like that. Err… but then I still don’t think it would necessarily drive me to grind a year for one, I like to actually play the game. But like at an ascended level and that amount of time investment would seem doable.
