Exclusive Tournament of Legends only mini...
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/win-a-legendary-weapon-in-tournament-of-legends-2/
says:
[…] If your team doesn’t come in first place, don’t fret – you’ll still be eligible to win other exciting prizes such as precursors, Black Lion Weapon Tickets, or the exclusive Tournament of Legends miniature Llama! […]
so i just wanted to know if this minipet will be availably ONLY through winning (or rather being under the top 32 or whatever the number is) in the Tournament of Legends?
this would be pretty stupid for most of the miniature collectors… :/
or did ANET just want to make it sound special and super good by using the word “exclusive” while it actually wont be exclusive to the ToL only and be available in the gemshop just like the llamafinisher?
could i pls get a clear answer on this fast enough so i can see if i need to take part in the ToL and try to get under the top 32 if i want it and it is really exclusive to the ToL top 32?
edit: actually i think it is ok to have such minipets – there were pve minipets that were exclusive to certain achievements too so…
and this would be the minipet for pvpers
just fair
i just want to know if it really is like that before the ToL starts^^

I wouldn’t be surprised if they did an exclusive mini like that, were you had to win it through the tournament. They did the same thing with tournaments, contests, and regional promotions in GW1
Mini Kanaxai is one that comes to mind. As well as the Mini Panda.
I absolutely hope it won’t be that case.
I’m rather thinking, that Minipets should become also finally permanent content and gainable for everybody, just with the point, that "everybody2 could follow a different path of obtaining a minipet and that those different paths should just come at different times and could be different difficult or repeating temporary moments.
Do I have to remember , what a kind of peep storm the community made around that Minipet “Mr. Sparkles” , which was once and currently is still again exclusively, because Anet provided so far only 2x the chance to get it.
The first time as a promotion gift on an american tradefare (what peeped off alot of players that they went directly onto the barricades here)
And then some months later, Anet came up with the so far last moment, when people got the chance to receive that miniopet as a gift, for buying a certain amount of Gems in a specific span of time.
Thats what I exactly hope for the Llama to happen again too, because it would be just too annoying for all of the miniature collectors, if this was the Op describes here would happen, because it would definetely destroy again the chance for alot of players to get ever a complete collection, whats the whole freaking sense of collectign them at all – to complete it one day !!!, because an incomplete collection is basically worthless and a waste of time.
And there are far more miniature collectors out there, than peopel can participate on those stupid pvp elitist tournaments.
It should be also possible for non PvP’ers to get somehow a chance to get that minipet.
The legendary is already reward enough for days of effort, wherefore other players have to actually work for daily hard for several months to get it.
So I hope Non PvP’ers will receive somewhen later a few months in the future after the tournament as a little gift for buying again a certain amount of Gems either, like ANet did with Mr. Sparkles and announcing before of that, in which time span people should buy gems to get that little gift mini llama.
Or what ANet could do, because all of the battles will be on weekends, that they could also reward Non PvPs with the Miniature Llsma, for at least watching a specific amount of battles in the Observer Mode as some kind of new Hidden Achievement that could be put under the PvP Panel that activates for watching via observer Mode for example 5 Battles over the time, when those battles are at weekends and thus could unlock then the Tournament Achievement with the Llama Miniature as reward.
That would be imo the absolute most fairest solution for all miniature collectors and Non PvP’s for at least passively participating in the tournament by watching the battles from the Start to the End several times.
I’ve been looking for an answer to this since I first saw the announcement. I’m really hoping ‘exclusive’ simply means ‘first available from’ and the mini will be either tradeable or available in other ways later.
I actually think making it tradeable would be the best solution because I highly doubt there’s a lot of cross-over between mini pet collectors and hardcore PvPers who are likely to qualify for a tournament. If it’s tradeable people who win one can sell their otherwise useless mini to people who actually want it and use the gold to buy something they really want.
But however it’s done I really hope we’re not going to be going through the whole Mr Sparkles mess again.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Add it as a 1-time reward track in sPvP.
The good PvP teams will likely have to win one game to obtain the mini-pet. The community will have to spend many hours/days (depending how much you play) to obtain the pet.

This would also be a good compromise.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Exclusive Minipet….why A-net? why do you seem to refuse to learn from your past mistakes? You know exactly what happened when Mr. Sparkles was added as an exclusive, and now you just go and do it again. What do you expect to change? Yes, it isnt a reallife event this time around, but is a tournament that is limited to 128 TEAMS, meaning 640 of Minis IF each participating team is assured to get one. If only the ones making it through to the championship get it, that being 2 teams per qualifier and 4 qualifiers total, that will be 8 teams and only 40 MINIS. 40, in a community of millions. why would you think that is a good idea? After the Mr. Sparkles disaster, why wouldnt you be a bit more specific with the info when announcing it to the public? it could spare us all a lot of chaos if you thought that through properly beforehand. why does it always have to be exclusive minis? why not something else? And what about that Mystical Dragon Mini? is that China exclusive? is that going to be added once Living World Season 2 hits? why arent we simply being told these things?
I know, those are a lot of questions, but as a collector myself who is only missing said dragon in his collecting of a sopping 256 minis right now, I certainly wouldnt want it all spoiled by a probably unachieveable exclusive Mini now.
Please, think about us.
Thank you.
I don’t have a problem with it and I collect minipets. The llama is for those who participated in the ToL, not for farming champ trains/boss blitz and buying it off the gemstore/TP. Adding it to a reward track in PvP is just lame since you progress through those whether you win or lose.
(edited by Moderator)
It’s exclusive until it isn’t, just like mr sparkles.
I expect multiple threads with thousands of posts like the sparkles brouhaha, then 3 months later you can get one buying $50 worth of gems.
I only have over 200 miniature pets right now, my game would be absolutely, without a doubt, tremendously OBLITERATED if this llama isn’t stashed in my collection! Game-breaking indeed.
Watch what you do Anet or else the community will summon their beg threads with 200 pages and 10,000 complaints. Don’t reward elitist PvPers.
If you want it – enter.
It’s called limited edition for a reason.
I can understand how your ticked off if your after them all… But if you really can’t understand “limited edition” then your kinda screwed in real life stuff.
RIP City of Heroes
I agree with the OP
I don’t agree with the OP. WOW feel so good to be constructive.
This is how Anet will screw their only loyal customer base, so much for playing the game the way you want to.
I wonder who will they fire first once the revenue stops coming from the gem store.
Also the pvp players trolling, the servers are running thanks to individuals who are still buying gems and supporting the game. Enjoy the updates while players such as the OP are still paying.
you can buy the mini off the trading post when people list on for sale on the trading post.
also, register fast, 128 teams can enter, first come first serve basis.
i hope lots of PvE players register so my casual sPvP team may have a higher chance to win.

People are crying about this, really? Good lord. They are trying to reward skilled players whilst promoting pvp. Oh noes!
This playerbase needs to get a grip and drop the insane levels of self entitlement.
If anything they should introduce a great deal more content like this, skill based only, items/rewards that should only be available by winning spvp tournaments or soloing dungeons etc.

errr sorry, it was my own speculation regarding this matter. :p
it would very nice if the mini is not account bound.
that way, those who got it, but do not want it, may sell it for those who wishes it, but was not able to acquire them via the sPvP tournament.
by the way, 128 teams multiply by 5 person per team is 640 people total who may be able to participate in the tournament.
it would be very nice if they gave all 640 people a mini as a token of participation, and a non account bound mini to circulate on the trading post.
Can I just point out that if someone has a full collection of mini pets so far that means they have (amongst other things) completed the meta achievement for the first WvW tournament, completed all the TA Aetherblade path achievements and beaten Liadri. They’re likely to have beaten Tequatl and the Triple Wurm too to try and get those minis (although those aren’t required since they are tradeable).
It’s not that they’re bad players, or unwilling to work for a reward. And given the number of different things you have to do to get all the minis and the cost of keeping up with the gem store releases rarely complain.
The problem with this one is that it’s (apparently) a one-time only opportunity which is restricted to a relatively tiny number of players.
Remove that limit and it’s not a problem no matter how it is aquired. If the mini will be available from all future tournaments, or from PvP in general then it’s not a problem because those who don’t qualify this time can try again. If it’s tradeable then it’s also not a problem because those who don’t get one directly could buy it. It might only rarely be available and very expensive when it is, but that’s still a world of difference from being completely impossible to get.
As it is I suspect a lot of people are going to enter this tournament with no intention of doing anything more than the bare minimum to qualify for the mini. I’m already thinking of forming a team specifically for that purpose. It’s unfortunate for those who want a real tournament and especially those who want GW2 to become an e-sport, but if it’s the only option it’s the one we’re going to have to take.

“If your team doesn’t come in first place, don’t fret – you’ll still be eligible to win other exciting prizes such as precursors, Black Lion Weapon Tickets, or the exclusive Tournament of Legends miniature Llama!”
So I have spent 10-20 bucks nearly every month since release to keep up with acquiring every mini-pet in this game. Now you are releasing a spvp exclusive mini….
This is not acceptable, first of all you reward pvp players legendary weapons for only playing one aspect of the game. The rest of us had to play all aspects to accumulate enough to acquire legendary weps. < This is still acceptable since we had the option of acquiring a legendary in an alternate way.
But why lock an exclusive mini behind a spvp tournament which only a handful of players will win or qualify to get? Why are you punishing your loyal customer who has been supporting your game by shelling our more than what I would pay for a subscription based game?
If this mini is not available in an alternate way then I guarantee you, I will not be spending another dime on this game in the future. Also there are many collectors such as me that will simply not spend any additional money on this game.
Because sPvP players had nothing exclusive for years.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
Far out I feel for the guy I saw who literally had collected EVERY single mini!
Simple solution then is to ensure the minis aren’t account bound.
How do you pronounce your name?
Simple solution then is to ensure the minis aren’t account bound.
This pleasepleaseplease. >:
I don’t collect minis, but i’d gladly trade my legendary for That Specific Mini. I’m sure there’ll be pvp players who would rather have gold to buy things they like rather than have a llama mini, so it would be a win-win.
Simple solution then is to ensure the minis aren’t account bound.
If the item is rewarded essentially for just turning up, sure, but if it is rewarded for doing well, then no.
There should be items in the game which are awarded to skilled players who complete content/win something, not to players with free gold to burn.
Although the Liadri encounter was easy, the mini still has a fair bit more gravitas (with many) than the other minis simply because it demonstrated that you could actually do something, other than simply going on the TP or gem exchange and spending gold/money.
The game needs more skill centric specific, non tradeable rewards, not less of them.
Let’s say you get a special skin for soloing a dungeon or winning a tournament, said skin would demonstrate you are capable of doing said feat. It would mean something (in game terms). Now, as soon as that skin becomes tradeable, it is devalued in skill/exclusivity terms because any old random could farm gold and buy it.

Prediction: it’s account bound and exclusive
December 2014: spend 50$ on gems to get the exclusive Llama mini pet ! Spend 10 to get the exclusive green Llama backpack!

Agreed.
As I said in the other thread in my experience there is little/no cross-over between hardcore PvPers who would want to enter this tournament and mini pet collectors. Especially since minis can’t be used in PvP.
If it’s account bound quite likely a lot of them will sit unused in the winners collectables tab. Making them tradeable would enable them to sell it and use the gold to buy something they actually want.
And if the issue is that the rewards need to be exclusive and something that can’t be bought with gold then the entire lot needs to be re-worked, starting with the first prize which is a legendary weapon. According to this forum if you have a legendary everyone will assume you bought it with real money and therefore it has absolutely no prestige at all.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
To me the biggest problem is that it’s only available to a fixed number of people which is relatively tiny compared to the whole player base.
Good examples of exclusive minis done right are the mini Liadri and Clockheart, which you get for beating Liadri in the Gauntlet and completing all the TA Aertherblade path achievements.
Both of these are account bound and only available from this one bit of intentionally hard content. So what’s the difference between these and the mini llama? They’re both still open to all players.
The TA path is permanent and the Gauntlet returns periodically, and both can be completed by an infinite number of people. The game is never going to say you can’t enter because X people have already done it.
Whereas the tournament is restricted to a fixed (and relatively small compared to the whole playerbase) number of people and the llama may only be available this one time (unconfirmed, but we have no reason to believe it will be added to other content in future). Which means for every person who gets one someone else has to miss out.
This is bad not only for mini collectors but for anyone who is interested in this as an actual tournament and would like PvP in GW2 to be taken seriously. At the moment this is a huge incentive for non-PvPers to form or join teams and enter the tournament, taking spots away from those who actually want to be there and making the actual competition quite likely to be a joke as beating them will be ridiculously easy for genuine teams.

This sounds like the guys who stand around town on their rare mount wearing tier 25 armor trying to impress someone over their “skill” at a video game. Just hoping for whispers from people who want to know how they got their “cool” stuff to justify their own self-importance.

Asking for rewards for more challenging or skill centric content, how utterly awful of us. We must clearly stand in LA all day swinging our kittens right…
(edited by Fenrir.3609)
You guys should already give up. I was like you like half year ago. I was playing gw2 motivated by my collector spirit. Then after things like Mini Mr. Sparkles, Mini Doylak from WvW, Mini Bloody Prince Thorn that requited large amount of grind, I finally understand it.
Mini pets were not designed to be collectable.
(just like achievements, but people still think they have to have all of them, because in the begining of gw2 achievements were too easy. And now people cry about Liadri 8 orb achi or things like that. Even Devs want to change the way we look on achievements with the journal thing and challenging achievements in next patch)
Why I think minis are not collectable? Because many of them are account bound. And many of them are time limited. Collectable items should be all tradable. If they are not, sooner or later you will miss one and then you will never fill up your collection. This is why I give up collecting them.
And I wait for real collectable items in this game. Because I love collecting things in MMOs.
Now when we will get journal, how about bestiary arenanet? And monsters cards! A rare drop from every monster in the game (even bosses), and If you get the card you will have this monster description in bestiary. And make them tradable. And .. wait for it .. make card game minigame! This way we would get Collectible card game in gw2 that would give us not only fun but some extra lore.
yawn
As I pointed out in a different thread on this exact same topic….
They did this sort of stuff all the time in GW1 – rare, unique minis that could only be gotten for winning a tournament or for winning one of the art contests or w/e. The main difference between GW1 and GW2 is that in GW1 all minis were tradable (not that those people ever sold those minis) and they will likely be account bound here. A pity for mini collectors that don’t pvp, but Anet has made the statement that they don’t necessarily want everyone to necessarily have everything. Which make sense because then there is no sense of being unique in the game, no sense of real accomplishment if everyone and their brother has all the same stuff you do.
I think that, “limited edition,” and, “rare,” minis are fine, but that all minis should be tradable. Not everyone will have every mini because supply will be limited, but the potential will exist for a truly interested individual to pursue them all.
Unfortunately the lack of a reliable direct player to player trade system severely limits the mini trade among collectors community.

Actually people did sell them. I had quite a few, including the ceratadon, grawl and destroyer. I even saw a panda for sale a couple of time but I couldn’t afford it.
That’s why I never had a problem with the limited edition minis in that game, you might miss them when they were first available but there was always a chance you could get them later. It might be a ridiculously tiny chance, but it’s still very different to it being impossible.
I’m still hoping they’re going to continue to make all GW2 minis either continuously/periodically available (like bringing back the gem store packs periodically) so you can earn/buy them directly or tradeable so you can buy them from players who did.

I had the ceratadaon (mmozine promotion), and the destroyer, asura, grey giant (all pc gamer mag promotions) but missed out on the grawl (which was given away for attending various expos). These were actually easier to obtain (and more numerous) than the panda (which only had 146 total across the game). I guess I should have said that people rarely sold them, although after HoM dedication, the dedicated ones sold more frequently.

I liked that all minis were tradable too, even if I knew I would neeeever be able to afford some of them. (Like the polar bear, omg the price on that thing) And I was disheartened to see so many of the GW2 minis set as account bound. Still, I sort of understand why (I think). I believe the base sets are all tradable (sets 1, 2 and 3), just the specials aren’t tradeable. Which, I’m assuming they have reasons for. shrug

You are not being “punished” by there being an exclusive mini pet available only to tournament participants. You are simply not being rewarded for not participating. Big difference.
A true collector would enter the tournament. I don’t know the actual requirements to get the mini obviously, but if all participants get one, then you really have no excuse for not getting this mini. They should specify what nets you a mini honestly.
So suck it up and join the tournament if you honestly want every mini in the game. That’s what being a collector is all about. You can’t claim to be a collector of every mini, see a mini you want, but then refuse to do the content necessary to get it. A true collector does what it takes to complete their collection.
For your sake I hope that all participants get minis. But you need to participate, not whine about how you have to do content you don’t like to get something you chose to collect and then threaten never to purchase gems again if they don’t appease you.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Basically:
-pvp players don’t care about useless mini pets so this reward is useless
-pve completionist players care about this reward and 99% they won’t be able to get it.
So:
-the idea of unique reward for this tournament is good but anet chose the wrong reward.

I realy dont care for minis. They are nothing special nor nothing that you should get hyped over. If you want dat mini so badly then go and enter the competition. Eventhough i still dont see how its the end of the world if you dont get it???
As for legendaries- OP would you have shut up if anet would have announced something like “3000g for each of the winners”?
The only logical reason i see for anet pronoucning that winners will get legendaries is cause it seems like its the only none dull reward comparing to something like gold for example.
People allways find something to moan over.
Oh how dare they! Nothing is supposed to be exclusive in this game! What are they, entitled?! I want it I want it! ahem special snowflakes, speshul snofleks! (insert special snowflake joke here).

give the PvPers SOMETHING special that doesn’t end up as a gem store release or a grindfest
because for some reason, i find winning a PvP tournament takes more skill than facerolling through PvE content and should be rewarded as such

I don’t think you understand OP’s point of view. There are many complaints found in these forums but this is actually a legitimate point.
There is a large number of collectors out there who have spent a considerable amount of time, money and effort to keep up with a mini collection, this will be the last straw for many such players.
Also most such collectors are only asking for an alternate way of acquiring this mini, if that is not something feasible then Anet should make sure its possible to sell this on the TP.

I really don’t think it will be exclusive forever. I made the post above sort of in jest, but I think if it’s account bound it will be offered similarly to mr. Sparkles. I think that’s the most likely scenario. It will just be 6 months.
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
Believe it or not, I have never bothered signing on the forums until now.
I came here solely to open a thread to propose the same idea as the OP.
Please make this mini sell-able on the trading post, this will not only give all the collectors a chance but also allow pvp players to sell them. This will be a win-win situation for everyone.
If it’s not obtainable any other way then hopefully it’s tradable. If that is the case then I am ok with it. If it isn’t well then I’ll save a lot of money. Mini’s or collecting them isn’t cheap. I am sure someone can do the math out there on how many gems it would cost and how much gold the series are worth. It’s a lot.
I wanna be the very best,
Like no one ever was.
To buy them is my real quest,
To get them is my cause.
I will travel across the land,
Searching far and wide.
Each mini pet to understand
The power that’s inside.
