WvW – Structure Upgrade Re-Work idea!
WvW – Art of War Guild Buffs & Keep Claiming Re-Work idea!
Seeing all the hurr durr about how everyone want an expansion and you see how “it will solve all the problems” in this game made me realize that there will be tons of people who wont be satisfied at all when it goes out.
Why i think so you say ?
Well 1st of all as someone who’s been around for ages (since betas) and survived 2 Living Story seasons, bunch of WvW seasons and few e-sports attempts – I don’t think that devs will match player’s expectations in their 1st expansions (unless devs add 1 new continent twice the size of Tyria,10 more well designed dungeons with all their dungeon sets and weapons,17 more fractals,2 real dragon bosses,at least 2 more playable races,4 more classes,11 new weapon types and 30 more weapon combos,Submarines and ships,Guild Hall instance,GvG Arena with ladders and stuff,Mounts and ability to freely fly around,5 more different in design WvW maps and WvW Events,10 more sPvP maps and PvP modes…and so on)
Yea they will add this so long awaited expansion and people will finish everything related to it in just about 2 weeks (for hardcore players) and a month or so for casuals.
We barely started to get in touch with devs using CDI and other initiatives so i think that if we get expansion lets say somewhere in 2015 (next year) it will be lacking content and wont do any good.
I’m sure that after devs finally got in touch with their community which they neglected for so long they’ve aborted many projects that was meant to be part of the expansion and started to work on stuff people demand.
So yea peace of advice don’t set your expectations too high for the expansion becuase you will end up quite salty.
Factions and Nightfall kept me occupied for far longer than that.
History proves you wrong.
Yes, we need it. We need content. The industry’s standard is ‘deliver and deliver and deliver till they choke on it!’. MMOs do this, GW2 doesn’t! They don’t listen to what the people want, the player base is getting smaller and smaller, people already forgot about this game. The income is getting worse and worse – just check the report from NCSoft. All my real world friends left since there was and is not much left to do. And it’s like 2+ years.
Factions and Nightfall kept me occupied for far longer than that.
History proves you wrong.
Only thing history proved us so far is that – Guild Wars 2 has nothing to do with Guild Wars 1 (which was epic compared to what we have now)
To be honest, I’m starting to hope less for a legitimate expansion and more for a new GW2 game. I’ve read that GW1 didn’t have a proper expansion until EotN, which means the Cantha/Elona portions of GW1 were introduced as individual games and not an expansion. GW2 has had more than enough time to produce an expansion imo; they could have had an expansion out by last year if they worked towards it. I think we’re past the point where an expansion would make up for the stagnant state of the current game. I hope they’re working on a legitimate new GW2 game that takes us to Elona or Cantha or somewhere new. That’s my opinion anyway.

You said you read about GW1 expansions which means you know nothing about what thye are actually like to play. They were good expansions.
I think an expansion may satisfy, just not necessarily for long. I would certainly love to explore Cantha, or, for me preferably, Elona. I’m sure I would enjoy whatever comes out of it. The problem for me is, that an expansion will in no way solve the issues that prevent me from enjoying the game to the fullest.
In particular, those issues are the current Trait system, and general communication and dialogue from Anet to us.
Anet’s policy of not talking about anything until its near completion restricts a lot of the meaningful input we can have on specific issues, and their usual code of silence afte does nothing but make me as a player simply not respected, despite being a supporter of the game. I’m sure I’m not alone with that. The in-game manifestation of that is the trait system, and the forum thread of feedback, that goes merrily ignore by Anet for weeks and months at a time, with little input from them.
For me, if an expansion is to come, and for it to be successful, it needs to have all the fun and interesting content that I do believe will be there. It will be very good. But for it to be great, Anet need to start communicating with its community properly on the issues that matter to the community. If they can address that fundamental, I will be begging them to take my money.
If there’s content like in Faction and Nightfall and even Eye of the North it will keep players a long time.
//Title was changed from “Expansion won’t satisfy anyone”
Wrong. I will be completely satisfied if the expansion provides me with the following content (quality content):

Pretty sure his point was EotN was the only expansion, Factions and Nightfall were stand alone games which didn’t require owning the others. Also, EotN only expanded Prophecies. I think his hope would be the same/similar model to the first game.
They could’ve just added that content in the LW, but they insisted that story > playable content, so we’re not left with much… If I wanted a story, I would read a book. I play a game for the playable content. And even the story isn’t much interesting at all..
Wrong. I will be completely satisfied if the expansion provides me with the following content (quality content):
- A comprehensive story line that I can complete start to finish at my own pace.
- New end game armors and weapons that are not Gem Store accessible.
- Dungeons.
- New skills and weapons.
- New PvP game mode types.
- Guild improvements with the addition of Guild Halls and Alliances.
- Additional WvW Maps and improvements.

No need for an expansion what so ever.
Isnt it a bit funny that people complain about the Living Story or the game overall due to it having you repeat stuff in order to get what you want, and yet they claim that Factions and Nightfall gave them more to do.
Just going through the story of Faction and Nightfall takes a couple of days at most.
- Black Desert is coming out soon…
Wouldn’t say 2016 is soon tbh…
It was not untill the expansions in gw1 started getting out that I was getting into the game. The original wasnt that great either, untill Anet made some very good additions to the game, then it turned into greatness.

@SkylightMoon: Actually I’ve played through all the GW1 games and the EotN expansion. My favorite class combo is warrior/dervish, although for serious play I’d be inclined to use something else like a ritualist. I love all the GW1 games. Please don’t make assumptions simply for the sake of insulting other players.
@Munkiman: That was precisely my point! Thanks for reading.

So not true. I started GW1 about a year ago and it certainly took me longer than that.

If you side-track and do side-stuff sure. But if you just do the primary quests and the missions it doesn’t take more than a few days (with much of the time spent grinding stuff in order to progress ^^).

The fact that Factions and Nightfall could be played as a standalone game doesn’t mean they weren’t expansions. They were both. Saying that they weren’t “true expansions” suggests that they were less than that, where in truth they were far more.
So, GW1 did have three expansions. Two of which could be also played as separate games.

Again Luna, you’re wrong to say it won’t satisfy me.
The ‘Living Story’ did provide some of the aforementioned. However, it did not bring the enjoyment that older ‘expansion’ content has brought in the past. Of course I’m only speaking for myself here.
I could go and break out why each portion of the living story that I didn’t find enjoyable and then compare to an expansion and why I find that enjoyable.
But just to note; I’m specifically talking about the type of content I find enjoyable, not the speed in which it’s released. Whether it’s in an expansion or released in updates I find irrelevant.
I like free-will content. Not content that is driven in one direction. I want a map I can explore, do quests here or there, find a dungeon, etc.
TL;DR
An expansion will satisfy me if it brings the same type of content I’ve seen in their previous series. Noone can tell me otherwise.
Pretty sure his point was EotN was the only expansion, Factions and Nightfall were stand alone games which didn’t require owning the others. Also, EotN only expanded Prophecies. I think his hope would be the same/similar model to the first game.

It’s true that the original standalone games Nightfall and Factions were also expansions. They added both skills and character professions to the game as well as a ton of new areas, and even, in the case of Factions, new types of PvP.
No one can say that Factions and Nightfall didn’t expand Guild Wars significantly even if they were also stand alone games.
They can deliver new skills new dungeons etc… by regular updates like living story/content patch. The dark side of all is that they coyld deliver an expansion but instead of what we want it could be this 12yo salad fetish story though.
An expansion is just a format on how content is delivered, works in other games because other games are paying attention equally on all their content areas, our beloved boat, however, is not.

Definitely. Perhaps I worded my initial post incorrectly. What I’d really like to see is a standalone game that can serve as an expansion to what we have now, like Factions or Nightfall. If there was to be an expansion, I’d hope for one that serves as a standalone game into Cantha, Elona, or somewhere else rather than something like Eye of the North.

So your argument is… you won’t be happy with an expansion… unless it is actually an expansion… well that is sort of a given isn’kitten
Your list is essentially a WoW expansion… the fact that you think it is some absurd hyperbole just goes to show how little content we have gotten so far…
While an expansion would not end all problems ever with GW2, it would still be very welcome.
Would it be able to satisfy everyone? No… clearly nothing will do that. Would it make a lot of fans happy? Yes very much so.
I don’t think anyone expects nearly as much as you suggest in the OP.
I would be completely happy with just 1 more playable race, don’t really care for more professions, but again 1 or 2 would most likely keep most people happy.

They don’t need to add what you’re looking for into expansion … Living story will cover what you want.
Actually Living Story can cover most of the most demanded features community is asking.
Why ask for expansion when they can just drop a bit of an actual expansion with every few episodes of the Living Story Arcs ?

Because an expansion just feels more satisfying and you are able to enjoy it at your own pace to a much larger extend. While I don’t hate on Living Story and it really is alright, it just don’t have that feeling. With an expansion I could play the story when I want at my pace and not have to wait for each bit… LS is 10% enjoying the story and 90% waiting for the next bit. Expansion would 100% enjoying the story untill the end, with only the breaks you create. Would there be wait again after that… yes… but it would not be mid story which completely breaks the flow and immersion with that story.
So while LS definitely have something to offer and I do enjoy that 1 hour every 2 weeks… I completely disagree that it is in any way comparable to an expansion.

Come on dude… that’s bull kitten. Every game can be rushed through in days if you are like that. There’s people who completed skyrim in 50 hours and then there’s people who spend thousands of hours discovering all of it’s mysteries and getting the most out of the can. The same goes for GW1 and most likely GW2 aswell. My first 500 hours in GW2 I played through most of the side-quests as many players did. Most of it was enjoyable because I saw stuff I didn’t see before. Nowadays, I only do PvP/WvW because I still get new situations there because of the amazing combat (not zerging).

Let me say this. When the game released I was largely happy with all the content (besides the end of the Personal Story and the fight with Zhaitan.)
I had no quarrels with the leveling experience, the trait system, the trading post, WvW, dungeons, or the different worlds.
Instead of building on to all of these, a lot of the systems the game shipped with have been drastically changed, removed, or just stopped completely.
Frankly, I don’t find Living Story interesting. The story is drawn out with many dropped plots.
Here we are over two years into the life of the game with only one of the six dragons slain. Something that I was under the impression to be the main plot to Guild Wars 2 (hence the dragon in the logo.) I figured we would see much more of the six dragons within two years, paving way for new un-adventured areas and plots. I had optimism that I would see the ravages of Palawa Joko in Elona, the new order of the merged Luxon and Kurzicks. I thought all the old plots would be revealed to pave way for new uncharted territory.
Instead, we are just now looking to slay a 2nd dragon. It’s just not ‘mouth watering’ when it’s long and drawn out.
Not sure what else to say.
Why do those GW2 defenders always say critics should not talk in behalf of the community, but for them it is OK to use the broadest of all generalizations.
Seriously, look at the titel, you speak for EVERY SINGE PLAYER here?
Wow.

I couldn’t agree more.
With all the announcements they make around Living Story and how “Tyria wont be the same after all this” how big of an impact all this have made…
What we should expect from an expansion ? Colonizing another planet ? (because apparently we already had “BIG” world changing events with past 2 living story arcs according to their announces)
Getting the feeling like they would ship the beginning of a story as an expansion and make it to another “living story” 2 week update cycle for some reason after those 2 years.

I am really wondering, I actually enjoy playing the living story, BUT how nice chapter 5 was with the glint’s cave, chapter 6 and 7 haven’t really been my thing, especially 7 while there is a lovely JP, I do not care much for JP’s and the looking for coins is TIRESOME! I’ve seen looking for coins several times in a row now, guessing they have had such a brain freeze they now cannot thing of anything else, Or there is someone actually there who likes the coin achievements. I play for fun, and If I cannot play a story I do dungeons, or some WvW (or EotM if I need cash) or make a new alt atm, as the coin things are, oh a coin, NICE, lets wait 2 days and just look ‘m up using dulfy, I like to play something immersive, no Oh look I am a number geek I just wanna look for scattered AP’s not 5 difficult ones, no 2 difficult ones and 28 simpler, but which take abouy 2-5 minutes each. leaving me with 2 hours less play time for decent content. Oh wait…, Skritt!! There is no new content… or is there. I like dry top and silverwastes, but I really dislike the grindfest you turned it into..
2 children, a wife and a dog tend to take some of my time, leaving me with well 1-2 hours daily to do your grind fest, could make it 4 or 5 but it would mean I need to stop doing dungeons, helping guildies and stop being co-leader to the guild I help run. Then when a new thing gets available just make it soulbound or account bound, because everybody should farm fior themselves, it’s really demotivating TP stockbrokers… Oh wait, my friend just bough his last legendary…
He’s wondering what to buy next now he has all legendaries, all contracts, all dyes, all skins and all ascendeds, except from a few pvp -bound only. Yes he did what I didn’t: he ignored all content and just made 35k + gold on the TP in 14 months. I am struggling with 2 ascended armors and 2 legendaries since prerelease. This isn’t about the game anymore, It’s about stockbrokers and wageslaves.
A good expansion would satisfy a loty of people, we could get new races, a new proffesion, maybe 2 or maybe 4. we could get dungeons, new jumping puzzles and so on. I do not mind if they give it after this 8th patch which should have been launched around 16 dec to keep people happy during the holidays….. I hate wintersday and christmas as well. Just because. And No I’m not Scrooge.
Wintersday is the 3rd time, I hope there is something better then Tixx’s blimp filled with mad puppets and toy soldiers this time. I have little fun in wintersday, halloween and the ninni-tendo crap in rata sum.

Don’t you dare calling SAB that way again! > : (
don’t speak for everyone ty, expansion would totally satisfy me assuming they actually put some effort into it unlike the living story and other updates lately.
Just having 1 new weapon per class would probably satisfy me for about a month. Add some new skills on top of that and maybe a few months. If you then start introducing new content like new fractals and better rewards for fractals. I could easily see myself coming back actively for maybe half a year at least. I mean i still really enjoy fractals. Im just a little bored with all the classes at the moment (need things to get shaken up a bit) and the rewards really arent worth the time. With how stale things have gotten and the poor rewards i just dont have much incentive to log in anymore.
History indicates that an expansion will satisfy players. 2 classes, 1 new continent, and a few hundred new skills. ANet used to churn those out yearly, but for whatever reason they decided to do a Living Story instead.
Factions and Nightfall kept me occupied for far longer than that.
History proves you wrong.
Guild Wars 1 as a whole kept me occuped 1/10th of the time Guild Wars 2 has, so far. Does history prove you wrong, too?
I’m not saying an expansion would be bad, but why would it be good? Will the devs magically pull dev-output out of a hat they didn’t have beforehand?
If they can release 1 zone every X months, A skills every B weeks, etc, does it matter whether they package that twice a year or twice a month? Not really now, does it?
@Carighan The problem is they aren’t releasing 1 zone every X months, A skills every B weeks, etc. We got 9(?) new skills, three new zones, and FotM over 2 years. In that time Guild Wars released 2 new continents, dozens of missions, and hundreds of skills. If ANet were splitting it up and putting it out on a regular basis so that it adds up to that, it would work great. Unfortunately they are not. Living Story works great on paper, but terrible in practice.
While an expansion would not end all problems ever with GW2, it would still be very welcome.

Why ask for expansion when they can just drop a bit of an actual expansion with every few episodes of the Living Story Arcs ?
Because so far they didn’t. That “expansion worth of content” is still far away in undisclosed future. And we’re not getting any closer.
Yes, an IV drip can keep a person alive. But that’s not a substitution for a good meal.
History indicates that an expansion will satisfy players. 2 classes, 1 new continent, and a few hundred new skills. ANet used to churn those out yearly, but for whatever reason they decided to do a Living Story instead.
Except that people complained like mad back then as well.
People always talk about those hundreds of new skills but forgets the fact that many of them were either complete copies of already existing skills or were simply not used.
They also managed to do it twice after that they released another somewhat large update and a bunch of smaller ones, but other than that nothing.
Would you have preferred if they had stopped updating the game by now if they had added big bunch of contents yearly for two years?

After that there was Eye of the North and the bonus missions. And yeah, I wouldn’t mind it. If they had done that, there would be more content than they’ll ever produce at this rate. That’s like asking would you like to have an entire turkey for breakfast, or one slice of bread for every meal. I’ll take the turkey, possibly throw up in the bathroom, but not be hungry for the rest of the day.
While an expansion would not end all problems ever with GW2, it would still be very welcome.
Would it be able to satisfy everyone? No… clearly nothing will do that. Would it make a lot of fans happy? Yes very much so.I don’t think anyone expects nearly as much as you suggest in the OP.

Would’ve helped if they ditched the boring story and focused on actual content. A dungeon path a month isn’t too much to ask right?
But after that day when you need to eat again there will not be anything to eat. Nor will there ever be anything to eat again.

Of course, but there wasn’t going to be any anyway.
There would still be a slice of bread for each meal.
Now my math is not all that good but as far as I am aware 1 slice of bread is more than 0 turkeys.
Just because people will never be fully satisfied doesnt mean you should never give them anything.
