I’m afraid that the “Megaservers king of all servers” picture on their facebook page expresses their standpoint on these isssues. I just hope that we get some input here from the devs before LS season 2 starts.

I would love to post more feedback but since the treads I have been giving feedback in have been deleted, I cannot recover my posts to be reposted here, as suggested

I have given my feedback in this thread already.

In a nutshell- I have tried for more than a month to live with what mega server has done to a game I love- I cannot.

No this is not something that I will “get over”

Essentially megaserver ruined a game that I was meaning to play for years to come.
With megaserver I can no longer enjoy the game.

Then, no offence, stop playing the game.

I really enjoyed this game and like you would have spent a long time (and a lot of money) on it, but with this megaserver crap (and also now hearing about them touting MS on their FB page) I feel I’ve been crapped on from a great height. So why give them your time and money, when its obvious that they are not listening to their customers. They don’t deserve your loyalty, or you (and as a whole all who are affected by these changes). If a friend kept pizzing in your cornflakes, would you still want to hang around with them?

I’ve missed the game, and I really didn’t want to stop playing, but MS have taken all the skill and fun out of the game now by having so many people crammed into each map. I keep checking the forums in the small hope that they will put it back into its former state.

One could argue that they are listening as I don’t believe the Queensdale champ train would have gone down like it did, nor the other starter zone champs, if it were just that “ArenaNet isn’t listening”.

The problem is that ArenaNet isn’t responding to an even greater issue. Radio silence. With that level of high care customer support – it is far too easy to imagine that they are just waiting us out. ArenaNet: “Eventually they will shut up and get over it.”

IMO they have only done that to QD train for their own benefit to nerf the loot.

I honestly think that is what they are hoping. Companies like that are too arrogant/headstrong to admit they were wrong.

With the way Anet has treated it customers, with their silence, I won’t be buying any more games that they make, how could I? When they treat one fanbase/customer base like this, what’s to stop them doing it to every other games fan base?

So is Anet going to… y’know… do something about this mega server fiasco? I think it is safe to say that there is a a considerably large amount (I’d say a majority) of people that dislike this.

Pretty great how Anet has been keeping us in the loop. Certainly feels like a delicious treat. Oh wait…

I think mega servers are overall good for the game but sometimes I do miss the non mega server days. So if anet made 1 server a non-mega server would you prefer to play on it?

It could also make events such as the blitz Crown Pavilion much easier to organize and complete.

I would definitely prefer to play on a non-megaserver map. Though I don’t see how you could create that and not just return to home-world maps. Think about it… just imagine how many people would jump on the non-megaserver map. In my mind it would just become another megaserver. Just as bad.

When you come down to it, all it would be is a short district system. Would you like

I’m extremely annoyed at megaservers by now.

- Piken Square (EU) feeling is totally gone

- last 3 times I logged in I was always surrounded by French map Chat. I am starting to think that getting on my old home server or at least on an English one has RNG “quality”. Or unguilded gamers are prone to being stuffed into empty spots.

- porting within the same map is like gambling in the Mystic Forge (am I on same server or not?)

As a result I don’t log into the game anymore, but search the game release notes instead, hoping for megaserver changes.

I’ll join in on this MS rage with some feedback of my own. It’s pretty much the worst new feature that was brought into this game.

Why?
1) Server community = GONE. I played on Desolation for more than a 1.5 year now and I must say I had pretty nice experience, I liked the cheerful community there….now it’s pretty much gone. When I log in these days I usually notice quite a few of impolite people on map chat, fighting over something, sometimes it’s even based on nationality or server association (hatred spreading from WvW based rivalry, it’s quite sad). These days all I’m thinking about when logging in is what kind of kittenly impoliteness I’m going to have to observe on say/map chat, it makes me rather sad.

2) Language based bucket filling. Why did you assume all people want to play with others that speak the same language? I come from Balkanic region, and I really LOVE to avoid fellow country mates / neighbours due to a fact I could easily get insulted for doing nothing wrong. These days I see quite a lot more of them, and (no offense), there’s always 50% chance I’ll run into some impolite individual that is going to make my day only worse. I rather like hanging around with English/Swedish/Finnish people due to the fact…. well, I find them more fun to have a conversation with.

3) Guild Missions are impossible to do (need to be reworked majorly if this MS feature stays). I’m in a guild with 300+ people and it’s a living hell to bring even 50 to the same “bucket” so we could do i.e. bounty. It’s the definition of chaos. On the politeness note, it’s also much worse due to a fact other impatient guilds tend to insult our members (again, for doing nothing wrong).

4) With all people filling the buckets, another thing-we-cannot-discuss about fills up those buckets and spams the hell out of everything (and block lists are limited).

5) People not ressing. Yes, it’s a psychologically related issue cause by the fact people think they’re not going to see the same individual ever again, so why should we ress him? Better to just run over him like he/she is a plant.

6) The feeling of MS is just wrong wrong wrong (see attached picture). About week ago I ran into a person dressed up identically the same as me, down to every little detail, with just different colours. With such crowdedness , people will tend to lose that feeling of being unique

On the bright side, due to all this I started to play WvW alot more, and it’s probably the only feature of the game I’ll play if the things stay the way they are. That is the only place where I can hang around with fellow server buddies and it’s fairly free of all the mental trash talk I could read in PvE maps.

Megaservers are great, for new players or when leveling an alt. But that’s all that is good with it.

Trying to do guild missions is a constant taxi business. The system is not working.

Trying to do events, such as LS, teq, wurm etc turns into a minigame of:
1. Getting a taxi
2. Rightclick person -> join -> repeat
3. Waiting and repeat 2.

You end up in a broken map where everyone tryes to get into the better organized (or organized at all) map.
That is the state of the game… atleast give us a queue like in WvW to ease the pain of this tragic system.

Or another solution, let us get a list of all maps/instances so that we can choose which one, this would atleast help alot in organizing GM. For events it’s gonna help alittle but not much. But atleast it would be an improvement…

Please, make Taxi Wars 2 a better experience than this!

Its true that for some content, the megaservers can be a pain.

- On some occasions my party was spread across different server, not a bid deal, but shouldn’t happen at all.
- For TEQ and Triple Wurm or even some LS event (but to be honest just the Crown Pavillon needed enough organization to cause some problem).
- Guild Missions was a mess when the megaservers went one. A lot of taxi, but right now its not that bad. But doing a Guild Puzzle with 2 other guild can be messy, not fun at all and even stressful. Guild Puzzle should be an instance.
- It completely destroy nodes farming on a regular basis
- It harder than ever to get to a particular temples, you need to do it or be lucky enough to get on a map where its already open. (Especially a problem with balthazar.)
- CoF is done fast when its close, but CoE can be a pain in the kitten to do some day.

But other than that (and maybe some other problem that I forgot about), megaserver is actually quit nice. The map are always alive, having some chat going on most of the time. The maps i’m sent in is usually the good one with people from my servers, guild, party and friends. Normal events are easier to do, there is always people to do world events and normal events. I think that megaservers is a really good thing, but they have a lot of work to repair some of the stuff that was broken by the megaserver.

Since megaserver :
- more goldsellers spamming
- more annoying chat in /m or /s (rage, frustration, …)
- more taxi
- more lag
- less fps (jump from constant 60fps with good quality to 20-30 with mid quality)
- less fun doing WB events

Thank you Anet.

Guild puzzles have been horrendous since this mega server. In a few words: there was three other guilds doing the exact same puzzle as us. In say/map chat, we tried to collaborate together to make it fun and non-stressful. One guild however said “no, we do it our own way”. A few other things were said by them and it was quite clear that this [Aco] guild was not going to cooperate. They raced on ahead and felt the need to make asinine remarks. I won’t say much more other than that the puzzles are an utter mess now. It was not enjoyable whatsoever. Many (if not all) of us were turned off by this.

I just don’t understand it at all that there are many serious problems that this mega server poses. I’m flabbergasted that Anet hasn’t done anything about it whatsoever in over a month.

I doubt they’ll completely move away from megaserver/overflow as a technique. Districts seem like they require a fairly active component, which I can see players wanting, so they can pick server loads, etc.

And maybe districts would solve a lot of the problems going on right now, but it would break some of the flow of the game. Each zone would have to have its own list of districts, basically. Lots more clicking just to get to a zone, but there’s ways around that too.

Many alts; handle it!

Districts in GW1 worked very well. It was no problem to use at all.
With districts , when you first go into a zone , you are placed in a district
selected by the software. If you needed to change districts, a drop down box made it easy.

Aha, I figured it was something like that. I suppose they had hoped megaserver could function similarly without the active component by keeping the “Join at” function for parties.

Not that it helped me last night when I really wanted to be somewhere else due to an awkward ‘conversation’ that was going on. I had to flee to Lion’s Arch. Districts could have saved my sanity!

I should clarify this by saying that districts only were for outposts and towns in GW1.
Also if there was only enough players for one district , that’s all you could get. There was no way to create one , other than if the first one was full and another needed.

Maybe megaserver is the first step on the way to a district system?
…Let me hope a little. I’m passively okay with megaserver, until something horrid happens: Boss Blitz no-org zerg, questionable RP scenes, etc.
I could try to shuffle in and out, but often times, I get dumped back in the same megaserver shard.
The option to willfully move across districts would be fantastic.

Server districts would have been a lot better than the megaserver in my opinion.

And now it seems that the guesting system is pretty much obsolete. It was helpful to see if a particular dungeon or Orr temple was open/contested, and helpful to those massive guilds like TTS who could actually pick what map they could use.

They said their current system does not support districts. So they came up with the worst idea without even a single thought or test(1 week cant be called testing) to make new and solo players happy. But who cares? We have megas…, they got China.

I myself actually stopped playing april 14th.
With the living story bugs every single time.
And when i heard about megaservers coming. I knew this would happen.
Its a shame because i loved this game, I have multiple legendaries that i grinded out with hard work.
But i do not see myself coming back to this game as I am mostly a PVE player and the game is pretty much dead to me now.

Ill check back from time to time to see if anet has done anything about this. But from their lack of communication with thier customers. I might not even bother doing that

take care

I think that the megaservers are alright.

But there should be atleast 1place server bound. Lion’s Arch would be great since it is the place were most people meet. I remember sitting in LA till 2-4 am just talking with people from my server. ( Weekends or Holidays)

Hey Danicia, if you don’t mind my asking, what issues are they specifically trying to improve?

Can someone explain to me why the megaserver system was applied to cities? Related question: why was it not possible to implement a district system for cities?

Hello all,

Issues are bad as they are, no need to improve the issues! Please solve them instead

Can someone explain to me why the megaserver system was applied to cities? Related question: why was it not possible to implement a district system for cities?

Because new players complained “My [non-human race] city is empty! Is the game dead? Did I make a mistake when I bought it?” and panicked. Yes, it’s only natural to have starter cities empty at this stage, but new players (especially first-timers) were getting a wrong impression.

(BTW, making an always 0-copper teleport to home city of your race would’ve nearly solved the problem IMO.)

I’m sure this has been said, but trying to find a (somewhat) empty map for our group to do Teq last night was sheer insanity. When we finally did flood one map to get an empty one to be created, two other guilds were there almost immediately trying to get their group going on the same map. Spamming “join in…” hoping you get in before your friend’s map is full… ahh it’s SO stressful.

Wurm requires way too much coordination for this nonsense, we need better tools!

Please, we either need a) more control over the map we are in (like districts, would be SO great) or b) teq/wurm need to spawn more than twice a day. It’s basically only once for those in NA times zones. The ability for guilds to spawn it is not enough!

I’m glad to hear they are still working on ‘improving’ it, because I and many others are still ticked off about it and the issues. Because I swear, if I am separated from my guild or PARTY one more time, especially on guild missions, I’m going to scream. Because really, why put us in separate maps when each of those maps are only half full? Or less? I’ve walked around Lion’s Arch only counted ~40 people, and yet still had my guild separated. And I cannot begin to say how messed up it is to have your guild separated while doing a bounty. I will admit this ‘seemed’ to be improved the other day, fewer of us were thrown into another copy of the map, but at the same time, the guild missions were in maps that were still basically empty… except for one, that happened to be the bounty in Spark Fly just as Tequatl was coming up (which of course split some up).

But to have your guild split, and add insult by not even able to keep a party together, is just wrong. And then there’s times I wonder, is there really only 1 copy of some maps? Because despite standing down from guild, guesting, etc., it continued to put me in the same copy of a map, a copy I was trying to get away from because the event appeared to be bugged (it may not have been, I did not go and look myself. I was hoping to find a map with it either up or completed). Seems funny, when I’m more interested in finding an event completed (temples for example), I find it undone and no one doing it. Yet, when I want to do the temple, for rewards/trait/boredom/whatever, all I can find are them complete, or one group of people yelling at everyone else not to complete it (this is not an attempt to say ‘get rid of farming’ this is begging for more farming areas, not less… a certain pavilion comes to mind as being much less now…, so we don’t have more instances of people desperate to farm and blocking others from doing things/insulting those trying to play, but this is a side effect of megaserver and it taking away our choice of where we want to be and how we play.)

There is so much more work that needs to be done, that I am afraid of the start of Living Story Season 2, because this will just exacerbate the issues, far more than main/overflow ever had them. Despite what Arenanet seems to desire, I (and I know many others) do NOT want more zergy messes, we want more interesting content that we can do with friends and our guild, and not be limited to just 5 people. I do not want content (nor events on a timer that encourages zerging) that pretty much forces you to stand there spamming 1 skill, maybe dodging once or twice, with 50-100 other people, that was made worse with megaserver.

So much work needs to be done to fix megaserver, since they aren’t going to scrap it. As it is, we are just trying to endure while hoping that Arenanet understands the issues and corrects them enough to at least be tolerable, but hope fades while we just try to keep busy and find things that are enjoyable to do in the mean time.

I’ve seen people ask for something similar for wvw. Normally I would laugh and walk away, but I would have laughed before megaserver for all areas and towns, so I feel I must comment on it. That would be the worst disaster that could be done with WvW, without exaggeration. Edge of the Mists is pretty much just a big karma train, and already is megaserver. Not only is there no need for it, but since it would turn every map into a karma train, it would completely ruin what is left for roamers/defenders and others that don’t want to zerg/despise zerging.

So this is a plea related to megaserver and other ideas that Arenanet may come up with/implement. Please, do not throw this and other things on us again without consulting with us, and listening to our feedback.
