Will gold find be the next target for nerf?

With 200% GF

If the main reason to remove ‘MF’ is to balance the classes and make people more effective everyone will move to GF.

At 200% somthing that drops 74copper becomes 3s 24copper.

During the southsun event it was possible to get upwards of 5silver per drop!

People will stack this stat to make up for the loss of T6 materials in farming and if you ask me the inflation this will cause by the massive influx of cash will be WORSE than removing MF.

Removing MF only serves to drive the prices of T6 materials even higher.

I’m someone who has invested so much to get full magic find gear and with buffs/food/gear i have 300% magic find. I choose magic find because I only do wvw and magic find build really makes sense. I find it HARD TO BELIEVE that any system they come out with will satisfy me when I’m accustom to a certain amount of magic find. Lets face it, the magic find will be no where near the magic find cap someone can get which was 327% before achievement buffs. It’s just another example how the vocal minority gets what they want and the quiet majority will have to adapt to this.

This.

Also you do realize that like 100% gold find on a 24c drop just raises you to 48c right? Gold find is about the most usekitten nus you could possibly have. I think gold find will remain a passive account boost (as we already have as bonuses through the achievement rewards).

Grats so next time a mob drops 30c you will get just a little bit over 60c instead.

Again I don’t feel like this stat has any affect on gear – being that there’s no gear with “gold find” as a stat. I think this will remain untouched.

To call it a nerf would be to not understand the issue with MF. As in any game with the potential for group play, MF here is a neverending source of complaint. And, other games have tried every strategy possible to fix the problem without success. There is one strategy that works; remove it from gear—problem solved. Anet has wisely gone to the best final solution rather than saddling us with needless experimentation around solutions that won’t solve the problem. Anet listened to their players and then wisely thought through the problem and came up with a reasonable solution. If you think MF has been nerfed, you haven’t been paying attention.

With the dungeon reward changes, the usefullness of the GF infusion is all but disappearing.

GF wasn’t a great tool for use in mob drops. It was VERY useful for dungeon runners who liked to do multiple paths for the coin that dropped off of the bosses.

And, while it hasn’t been confirmed yet, I really believe MF is being NERFED. I run 144% MF on just my exotic armor/runes and ascended accessories, amulet with infusion, and rings.

I have a real hard time believing they will compensate me with a 144% MF account wide stat. More than likely, it will be significantly less.

They gave us a 3% MF account wide bonus stat by the time you hit 5000 achievement points. They actually think this is good, so their ideas for compensation for the loss of MF gear will probably be along these lines.

I’m amazed at how many people just blindly trust Arenanet to simply shift MF values from one source to another. Really? You honestly believe they aren’t going to churn out some kitten replacement that will only be at most 50% effective over the original system?

Oh, and they said that MF is going to be moved to consumables?

What was it the MF haters were demanding? Oh yeah, an “inspect” feature.

Now they get their cake and can eat it too. MF is being removed from gear, and if you dare to use a MF boost, it will show up in your buffs, resulting in a party kick.

It was an example. Whether it be dungeons, fractals, or whatever, there is a small group that hates users who use MF. Yes, it makes no sense to run a dungeon with MF gear if it doesn’t affect the outcome, just as it would make no sense to use MF consumables, but, as I said, it was just an example.

Gold find is different from magic find in that it doesn’t replace a significant amount of stats. If I recall correctly gold find can only be obtained through consumables and one infusion in the amulet slot, for a total loss of 5 points of stats in your gear (some infusions give +5 to a stat of your choice). It’s extremely different from MF that is found in gear and runes and can cost you easily more than 1000 stat points.

I really wonder if the guy stating that running magic find in wvw makes sense is trolling. In any case, I only wish that his entire server decides to run mf. Have fun getting stomped over and over again.*

@Neural: I’m not blindly certain that Arenanet will give everyone +250% magic find. In fact I’m sure that will never happen, but since I always wore 0%, any increase, even a measly 10% is more than welcomed. By the way, great job on the stereotypes, that’s one of the most ridicolous I’ve seen in years of forum-dwelling.

I don’t expect a +250% (or +% equivalent to what my character wears) to be added to the account, but I also don’t think that Anet is going to give us equivalent MF consumables that would allow someone to attain the same level they had previously with equipment.

I have a MF set that I crafted on my own, after gathering the materials while completing the map. It wasn’t some credit card > gems > gold purchase, and took some time. Those items that I chose to craft give me x% boost. I simply find it highly unlikely that Anet will give me consumables in any form that will equal, for example, the MF boost from a golden lotus with MF infusion.
Some will try to justify it by saying that I don’t need the benefit of the MF boost since I now have the benefit of increased stats.
If I wanted that benefit, I’d wear the armor I crafted for that purpose.
The details aren’t fact yet, we all know this, but looking at Arenanets history, I just get a feeling that MF users are going to get shafted on this one. I hope I’m wrong.

Your concerns are understandable, but I don’t think the consumables (magic find boosters, food and possibly runes?) are going to be changed. Or they could remove those and increase drops overall. I belive one of the reasons drops are so bad is that they have to balance them considering the possibility of someone with +300% MF. B
ut I might be wrong, we don’t know the details yet

Gold Find already will take a heavy hit when they change dungeons.
They have already mentioned that instead of champs dropping gold throughout a dungeon, it will instead now drop champ reward boxes.
Also you will only get gold as a end dungeon reward, since that final reward wont be coming from a boss drop, it will not be an increased # do to any extra gold find.
In other words, Gold Find, which was mostly useful in dungeons is now going to be almost completely useless.

Some of you don’t seem to understand the issue with magic find at all. The problem is that you are purposely gimping yourself, choosing to be weaker in order to get better rewards. This is both incredibly selfish and incredibly disrespectful to those you are playing with. If you use MF in any way except solo play, you are a leech and a horrible person.

It doesn’t matter at all if the new system can achieve as much as the old, the only thing that matter is that it’s gone. It is disgusting as it is now.

Then why did Anet make so many Magic Find components? Armor, Weapons, Runes, food, etc.. etc.. Don’t blame the players for using what Anet supplied. If Magic Find was so bad for the game, why was it ever added? Welcome to live Alpha testing I guess.

The main result from this NERF, is now more players will leave. Say what you want, scoff at them etc.. They will leave and the player base will get weaker. Don’t confuse traffic with success. You can have a Freemium game that is jammed with players and it fails financially.

I still don’t see why they didn’t make Magic Find a party-wide stat. The main issue with it as it is now is that you are making yourself weaker for greater reward. This idea is actually perfectly fine. The problem is that making yourself weaker also means your entire party has a harder time, but Magic Find currently does not make their rewards any better to compensate.

Making it a party-wide stat means that everyone gets better rewards for choosing to make the content more difficult. Everyone in a dungeon would benefit from anyone who did decide to go MF. In the open world, it doesn’t matter if someone is in magic find gear as the content is easy enough. In WvW, it likewise doesn’t usually matter as in zerg v zerg, an individuals stats rarely matter in the outcome. The ONLY place it is really a concern is in dungeons where you are automatically in a party with everyone else in it anyhow. If everyone was wearing Magic Find gear, they would have a more difficult time with the content, but their rewards for making it harder on themselves are vastly improved.

If the people who are running magic find don’t want the others to benefit from their gear…they need to go play a different game. Making the content harder without any compensation is just unfair and isn’t playing the team game that GW2 was designed to be.

TLDR: Making Magic Find a party-wide stat should be a good idea and would also disrupt existing magic find gear the least. If anyone thinks otherwise, please post why this idea doesn’t work.

This distinction is important and all that really needs to be said on the issue. MF simply adjusts the loot system. Anet can dial in reward at any level they want with or without MF. If the outcome of the adjustments around MF is an unrewarding game they will have failed. MF is simply a bad idea and especially in a game with the potential for group play. Anet recognized this the same as Blizz did with D3. Both companies have put in systems that remove MF from gear which forces the tradeoff between effective stats and the chance to loot rare items. I see no inherent reason to assume that the outcome will be less reward. Everything they are saying and doing leads me to assume there will be more reward, not less.

They didn’t make MF party-wide or shared because they have learned the lessons of the past. D3 tried this before they instituted paragon levels which will remove it from gear over time. When MF became party-wide there was an equivalent outcry that it was unfair for people to benefit from group MF when they had made no investment in MF. And, they were right, it wasn’t fair. It was also noted that sharing MF didn’t address the underlying issue that the trade-off itself was problematic. Why should a game developer be encouraging players to be less effective in their gaming. The idea made more sense with the early arpg’s, but it really hasn’t worn well over time. D3 eventually went back to non-shared MF before deciding to remove it from gear.

Personally, I’m glad Anet didn’t spend time on solutions that don’t work. There is only one way to address MF effectively and that is to remove it from gear.

How is it not fair for those who have not invested in MF to be benefiting from someone who has in a dungeon? It’s not fair for the person who did bring MF gear to be benefiting only himself when the detriment of him having lower stats is put upon the whole party.

Seriously, I do not understand this argument. The whole team benefits if you bring Beserker armor because you drop enemies faster. Why should the whole team not benefit if you bring Traveller’s gear? You’re doing the same damage that you would be if you wore Knights (which benefits by you worrying less about dodging and being rezzed/healed, though not in damage).

The whole issue with MF currently is that the lower stats hurts everyone in the party, but only benefits one person. If it dropped the damage dealt with the tradeoff of better loot drops for everyone, people would complain less. If the content is easy enough that you don’t need the max stats to do it reliably, then why not work to get some better rewards? Alternatively, why not have a party challenge themselves for greater rewards?

I have never played a Diablo game, so quoting “Oh, D3 tried that and it didn’t work” means nothing. Blizzard screwed up a hell of a lot more than magic find in D3 from what I’ve heard.

Yes, D3 screwed up more than MF. I was only using D3 as an example as they went through the same process as we have gone through as reflected through threads on the forums. The only difference is that they tried sharing it without success, we didn’t.

The bottom line is that the trade-off between effective stats and the chance to loot rare items is a bad one in and of itself and I believe that is why Anet addressed that specifically as opposed to discussing the group play dynamics. In group play the problems are exacerbated by the perception of unfairness. Unshared, people will complain that it is unfair to contribute less and receive more reward. If MF is shared people will complain that it is unfair for people who have made no investment in MF to benefit from mine. Remember, sharing would entail averaging the MF across the group. Any one person could be benefiting less from his MF investment because of it being shared. Of course the MF proponents are usually convinced that their skillful play more than makes up for the loss in stats, so it’s not fair that they should be sharing the MF.

I, personally, believe that neither solution is fair. Shared would be more fair than unshared, but it wouldn’t be fair. But, perhaps more important are the practical implications. Sharing MF won’t solve the problem; at least it didn’t in D3 and because the dynamics are the same here, I see no reason for it to fare any better here. There is a clear solution that works. Anet has seen it and they have chosen to implement it. I believe we will be the better for it.

My only concern is what are they going to change MF into on gear? There’s already Crit Damage, Toughness, and Condition Damage on other gear, so what would the Explorer’s set become?
…+Vit?
Ohgod, not +Healing Power…

As it is, this is a great chance to give the devs some ideas of what to do with it, like…
+Condition Duration?

+movement speed
That would fit the names too. Traveler/Explorer/Wayfarer.
