Quoth one of my members, "We’re the little guild that could."

My guild of about a dozen members just unlocked bounties and a couple of tiers, and we’re quite proud of that, even if it dented our banks a bit. We just put in some gold for 20k influence and are already working on treks, and have devised plans to earn more gold and influence so we can continue opening these missions up.

If you’re determined, and motivated, you can do it. Although, yes, I will admit, this is a little harsh on us guilds with <25 members, and it needs to be reassessed. I understand this was mainly for bigger guilds with all this influence, but smaller guilds like mine and others shouldn’t be left on the back burner.

It is Gated Content which anet enjoys releasing because they said something along the lines of players are finding themselves bored quickly

Because it makes it seem like they are adding more content than they are. They could say ‘We are adding enough content to keep players occupied for months after each patch! They don’t even have enough time to finish it before the next path!".

And that’s because their live team is far too small to be able to produce the amount of content that they needed to can in time for the rushed release.

I mainly play with a few friends, and we have a guild, which is mainly consisting of us.
I have yet to play Guild Missions since none of us have had all that much time because of our studies and graduation coming up.

- I can understand that bigger guilds are having a hard time unlocking these Guild Missions, and I don’t even want to know how long it would take us.
- Actually, when they announced it, I didn’t think it would be unlocked, but a feature to get a Guild’s members playing together, and then reward them in some ways for this.

- I am personally not a fan of having to grind my way up to unlock these missions.
I can understand that it is also a way of getting the Guild’s members to grind with eachother, like maybe doing dungeons (I assume they gain you some influence, we haven’t played together for some time in our little Guild, so I’m just gonna ask you guys) or going WvWvW together, you know, getting into the content together as a guild to unlock these.

- Maybe they should scale the influence needed depending on the size of the Guild.
That might be one way to go about this, but I agree with OP that four weeks seem like a long time to grind for the next Guild Mission.

Been grinding on just getting AoW up to max tier so we have the option to queue guild bounties, and we still have 6 days before we can even start that queue (and still need 28k more influence).

OP: be happy where you are right now. Realize that there are TONS of people in game who do not have access to the content you currently do and will not have access to it for MONTHS, if not more.

Bottom line……FIX THIS CRAP ANET.

I would agree with “scale influence to guild size”, except for the fact that it’s difficult to track who is actually active in a guild. You could have 100 members, of which only 30 would be active – but you wouldn’t know because there’s no way of telling when a person’s last logged in.
So, you can’t really kick people freely because you don’t know if they’re inactive or if you just play at different times of day, and thus your guild roster becomes inflated, which would also inflate the Influence cost.
Until a “last online” feature is added, I would not agree with influence scaling.

4 weeks “Grind” time between guild mission types is far to long

Simple as the title says, After I unlock guild rushes this weekend I still have to wait 3 weeks to get enough merits for the next mission and then a week for research times. This includes that my guild gets 100% of all of the merits we can earn each week.

After that I can earn 80 merits a week and need 250 for the next meaning with the 20 merits I currently have I still need to wait another 3 weeks and 1 week research time to get the final mission type.

I have one of if not the largest on my server, yet we still have an insane grind that we can’t really speed up unless you find saving up over half a million influence to rush 1 of these upgrades to finish a week sooner reasonable.( I don’t)

The guild mission update arrived a month ago and it takes a huge guild 3 months to unlock that content. I don’t know about the rest of you but that is insane, a smaller guild will struggle even longer.

If these missions had been around since the start of the game this kind of grind would be fine but forcing it on us now with a staggered 3 month release as the fastest time to get basic content we should have had at game release punishes all of the players ingame.

Small guilds might as well give up on seeing all of the missions anytime soon unless they somehow make 50,000-100,000 influence a week

/endrant

Leaving aside our past differences, I completely agree here, and with several of your posts that appear later on page 44 of this thread.

Basically the content that was added didn’t add as much as was hoped for and they made it a grind to get. Big guilds don’t find it challenging enough and small guilds find it too difficult, if not impossible to accomplish.

Pro:
Nice idea to add interesting/new content.

Cons:
Time limits, wandering bounties in huge zones, low reward for external participants(they may only get a chance to take out one of the bounties and only receive standard event rewards and no drops – happened to me and my guildies in Frostgorge), high cost and long research time to even do new content, added months after release, poor/misleading roll out advertising on new content, and more.

Maybe we will agree more as time passes. Olive branch passed.

All they need to do is make missions replayable twice a week or half the research costs in merits and influence.

then make it so you get rewarded for multiple missions run so you can help smaller guilds

The fact is that small guilds were killed by these missions. No one will join to small guild because of that “mission frenzy”. And also tasks are quite diffcult so its challenge for small guilds. But the main problem is that when these small cant do the missions they also cant recruit to make their chances. Why new content is only for big guilds? I think it’s totally unfair and because of that many guilds have to leave something what they built for long time. Maybe a scaling would help here. My opinion is – I’ve waited like crazy for these missions and when it comes true it was just impossible to do it. I was sad but then recruiting just stopped. Then we were dissapointed and the guild started to rot. No more fun here when people just walk away and you cant do a thing to make things better.

@Phoenix: I do tend to agree with you. TBH if the influence requirement were halved AND there wasn’t a specific order to do them in (or at least an option to do them in a different order or bounties were the last, rather than first or they had their own separate influence area from AoW, Arch, etc) then we’d be much better off.

Unfortunately it also seems like these things just aren’t all that fun in the first place. If bounties sounded like fun, perhaps I wouldn’t mind putting the influence in AoW for them.

Then another issue comes up: a) small guilds lose members making them even smaller and b) small guilds can’t recruit well so small guilds basically stand no chance and c) they get discouraged and slow down their playing of GW2 for this reason. For my guild it would be 18 years. Who wants to bother with a game that has that inane of a requirement for content?

And another issue:
You should not have to google requirements
ArenaNet has not yet had a single thing require something outside of the influence line to get something inside the influence line until now So to those of you who say someone should’ve done research, there was no reason, given past behavior, to think they’d require something outside the line the mission is in. Plus, in the description for Guild Puzzle, they do not say that you need ALL the guild missions and ALL those tiers of ALL those lines to get it. And they should say that (and TBH that should get them to split the missions up without requirement because that would just be way too long), along with TOTAL influence required so things that happened with Clouded Judgment don’t happen again. Just upfront state it requires 400000+ influence, all the other lines unlocked, etc.

I guess with various threads about guild missions being merged into this one, the link to Matipzieu Kya’s brilliant post about the unintended consequences of the guild mission content, as well as constructive suggestions for overcoming them has been changed.

So as a sort of public service, I dug up that series of 4 posts, and give the new link:

(It is still on page 14 of this thread, but the old links don’t work anymore because the thread was renamed.)

If you haven’t read it already, I strongly recommend it, even though it’s a long read. It consists of 4 long posts in a row (with one short post by someone else in the middle).

Just did a guild trek for the first time. I liked it a hell of a lot more than bounties, though I still don’t care for something so reliant on tabbing to third party websites to complete. Also not really a fan of getting absolutely no personal reimbursement for it. Not even anything to cover the waypoint costs.

Sounds promising. I’m sure it’s still going to be under art of war though which in itself blows for non pvp guilds but it has to follow suit. No point putting the training mission outside a tree the main mission is sitting on.

They’ve specifically said small or new guild this time. I can only hope it still nets guild accreditation (or if not, then a truck load of influence) and has a different set of people to hunt other than the ones hunted by the army-size guilds. Not that it would stop them from running “training missions” anyway, but you get the drift.

On a more negative note, this also means they aren’t changing the “you must unlock guild bounties first before other guild missions” thing, and if it isn’t changing in this patch (unlikely) or the next then it will probably never happen.

1) Let’s wait and see how much influence a guild needs to spend to unlock the training missions. And what it’s really made of. Tier 1, killing 2 NPCs isn’t that hard. The tracking is the hardest part.
2) Are they kitting us? Shouldn’t be thaaaat hard to make a small post about this in this very topic. They sure didn’t start developing the training missions just yesterday. They could have cooled all of this discussion down with a small posting that wouldn’t have taken longer than a coffee break to write.

They actually removed my post because of it not fitting their forum guidelines. Apparently being able to type back at them in the hopes of a real response is mean I believe I got kittened 2 times and had also said crap in it. This is my rebuttal and I will say I expect this to possibly be blocked as well. On the bright side for those of you who do get to read this the post was pulled by a actual human moderator so that means they are at least reading; if not taking any other action.

There are many people who say worst then what I have said in the above post and if you have trouble taking honest criticism from fans of your game series then so be it. Providing feedback works both ways and not always through a PR/HR department, in the past month your company’s response to guild missions has been mum even though your company was expecting great cheer it got lots of hate. In the future it would be nice to hear from the human side of you who acknowledges mistakes and not the corporate side of you that promotes new (possible) fixes to content you have just rolled out. I mean it is a true backtracking to believe this “training mission” will fix anything of what you have done and destroyed in the past month. To say that anything I have said is hurtful towards the members on your staff pales in comparison to the hurt your staff has inflicted upon your fans; especially those of us who take the time to try to use your forums to make contact with people who might have a chance at actually responding or doing something to address real issues. At least seeing how you responded to my criticism makes me proud that you at least read it; even if you don’t take the time to reflect on where I am coming from.

This news article https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-missions-a-good-foundation/ gives some new information about guild-missions but what I noticed is that ArenaNet really seems to have made a big calculation-mistake and still do in a way.

It’s this line. “Instead of Guild Merits, 3000 Guild Influence will be rewarded. This ought to be perfect for the smaller or less active guild that can’t earn at least 1000 Influence a day.” So if you earn 1000 influence a day you should have no problem unlocking the guild-missions.

Now lets say you have an everything already upgraded to the point where they introduced the guild-missions. Then to unlock all the guild-missions including the required upgrades (and we had all upgrades until that point, even one that did not unlock anything) that would cost you about 330 000 influence. (5 * 30.000 = 150.000 to get to a higher level and 3 * 50.000 + 30.000 = 180000for the guild-missions itself is a total of 330000 influence. And I might be wrong, can’t remember all the upgrade cost but this is the minimum of what I am sure of. Then you also get the influence for the missions you need to do to get merits to unlock new missions but I won’t even calculate those. That brings me to 330.000 / 1000 (a day) is 330 days. So it will take a guild who makes 1000 influence a day almost one year to get all the influence.

I don’t know how the new mission training works, you can also do that once a week for influence? But it is a good update. Still you an see that something went wrong in the calculations.

Our guild is big enough to unlock everything about in time. For now we were able to unlock everything including all upgrades but we just lack the 100.000 influence for the last two missions. We still have some time because we need to earn the merits first anyway. But I can see how this will be a problem for smaller guild, or what if somebody now created a new guild.

I really hope that ArenaNet is smart enough to do still give future additions to the guild but that they do not require influence to unlock most of them. If they would do that only existing guilds really have a change of getting anything.

Maybe one more big upgrade for a guild-hale (I know a lot of people want that) but other additions should really not require influence to unlock them.

I realize that the big Guilds need to have something to spend the influence on and this new system is nice for that. And I have no problem with that. I think the whole idea of guild missions is good but that it did not go far enough. Forgetting that small guilds would be left out and uber large guilds still bored is a problem. You cannot always only serve to the middle. You have to look to your factions and find a way to make your game include as many players as possible not just the middle. Scaling these event to the guilds seems a good way to include as many guilds as possible.

Wait, what? So rather then rewarding Guild Merits, they gave us Guild Influence instead? Guild Influence aren’t really that hard to obtain but geez. The setup for the regular Bounty Mission is annoying as it is and that is the only way to get Guild Merits compared to something that seem easier for a smaller guild to do, like Trek. Even if the small guild can get those influence (mine did with flying colors), they are stuck with being undermanned to do the Bounty Mission to begin with.

No, they introduce a new mission (training-mission) where you only have to kill 1 bounty and that is what gives you the influence. The rest stays the same.

Scaling these event to the guilds seems a good way to include as many guilds as possible.

You still have the problem of the influence for small guilds. There is no real need to require the influence for unlocks so with future additions they can better not require that. Most guilds that have no big problems exist from the beginning but image starting a guild today. You can not offer anything (because you need to unlock everything first) so it’s hard to get people and you need the people for the influence.

The idea of influence to unlock some things was not bad but they should not keep that system for new unlocks because the total required amount of influence to unlock stuff will then only become bigger and bigger making it near impossible for new guilds to start.

Maybe they would add more guild-missions that give more merits and work more with merits, because if you make sure the missions can also be done by small guilds it will be possible to unlock everything even for small guilds.

I am aware things remain the same but this does not really solve the small guild and them obtaining Merit when the normal Bounty Mission is rather unplayable for many small guilds to do. I was hoping that the Training would at least give ONE Guild Merit and help small guild use this as a way to unlock a much a friendly Guild Mission, Trek.

I guess I was wrong when they decided they are rewarded influence instead.

We have tried a few Guild Bounties now.. My personal opinion on this is that, it will be more fun and better gameplay if we do not “allow” to scout for the npc prior to starting the game. Please do something about this. Whether you are going to increase the time for higher tier, make instances for all guildie to accept entrance/participate (??). Thank you

p/s btw, guild trek is awesome awesome. Do not mind no personal reward tie to this. :o)

How about if you do it on your way and let other people do it on their way in stead of trying to force your ways on other.

When i posted my original reply to the announcement of 1 bounty training missions for small guilds i was very pleased. I have had time to reflect now and have concluded it’s almost a waste of time, guild merits are required to unlock the further missions. This new tier in no way whatsoever helps small guilds progress through to the unlocking of treks, rushes and puzzles. As stated on page 44 of this thread, i don’t mind how long it takes to progress, just make it possible. ONE GUILD MERIT, that’s all i ask

I’d like to know what the reasoning is behind requiring the same amount of time to build a guild training mission as to unlock guild bounties in the first place. These are worth nothing compared to the actual bounty in the area of rewards and take six times the time to build. What’s the purpose for this?
The only reason I can think of is that you didn’t want big guilds have another way to gain influence. I don’t think the big guilds will care about training missions though. They have plenty of ways to get influence and will be more interested in using their build slots for other upgrades and guild missions that give rewards. This will hurt small guilds more than limit large ones.

So I am sure this has been answered but 45 pages to read through it too much When do the missions reset. We have figured they reset on Friday when WvW resets, but we are not 100% of course. I’ve heard some people say its 7 days after you first opened one but we did a test one on a Sunday then did the real one on Saturday 6 days later and we got the chest both times. So if someone can shed some light for me that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks kindly! (:

Did some guild bounties, while we wait for our guild rush to unlock. Have to say guild bounty missions is all down to luck of who you have to kill. The last 3 bounties we have gotten Yanonka the Rat-Wrangler for 1st mission, Sotzz the Scallywag for 2nd mission, Big Mayana for the 3rd, and thats not including the fast npcs, or the really hard ones to kill. So like most of the game is all down to random luck.

My guild likes the challenge of killing them, the fights are great its the finding them that fails most of our missions. 15 minutes is simply not enough time, have no idea how guilds find 6 npc for tier 3 and kill them, guess they get lucky with the npcs they need to find and kill and have a bucket load of guild members doing the mission..

When we first started doing guild bounties, we had about over 20 guildies doing it, now its slowly dropping, people don’t want to pre search, and once they get reward from the first kill there is no incentive for them to do it again till next week. So the people that weren’t online at the time miss out because no one else wants to do them because they already done it.

Give us more time to find and kill each bounty, have it scale to how many are representing the guild or something similar, and have your usual reward for the first kill but some sort for reward for doing bounties again.

Other than that slowly but surely we will have no one wanting to do guild bounties except to kill the first npc to get there reward. And for guild treks, well no one wants to do them, no reward, no point in doing them. Thank goodness they are easy enough to do with a few people, otherwise would never get them done for the guild merits.

Looking forward to guild rushes, they can’t be any worse than the previous guild missions.

Everyone loves the idea of the guild missions, just badly implemented, thought out and non existent interface.

everything is an illusion

Small guilds = no progression at all with the new system.
That’s pretty much the sum of it. If you’re in a small guild, your not getting the guild bounty done unless your lucky.
I’m fairly disappointed by this turn of events. After our guild pounded our collective head against a wall to try and 5 man the guild bounty down 3 weeks ago or so, 2 members of our group haven’t logged back on since. so… yeah…
And the guild bounty hunter training is pointless. If it doesn’t offer guild commendations or merits its not helpful. so, I suppose our options are hang our heads in defeat or join a larger guild. (what happened to playing the game our way? did that plan get left on the cutting room floor?)

I am in a small guild, less then 15 actives. We still cannot afford the guild bounties so I end up joining with other guilds who are kind enough to allow others to tag along.

It takes about 10x the amount of time to find the mobs as it does to kill them, so really a guild bounty is mostly just running around various maps looking for a target. Sorry, that is not fun.

I have not done a trek, I really do not see the point to simply run around the maps… again very boring and no reward.

Eventually I wouldn’t mind trying the jump puzzle,. but other then that I have lost most interest and now just do the guild bounty if I am bored.

How many members are required for Guild Bounty and what level is recommended for all bounties?
