Heroic Edition
Stop whining pls.
No, you nor I are entitled to these perks.
So to be fare in your opinion, anet should give all achivement points, armor skins, weapons skins from all previous living story updates to new players since they were not here to get them? You want anet to give all things to all players equally across the board?
Boosters? > already lvl 80 with tons of boosters in my bank
Armor skin? > already have better looking armor on my toons
18 slot bag? > already have 20 slot bags

Why are you entitled for this?
An analogy I used minutes ago..
You sign up for a gym membership and get perks ABC. Then 6 months later you find out they are now offering perks DEF to members and you want them to? They’re not for you. They’re for luring in new customers.
And yes, I will make the argument that Anet would be losing money. They would be losing future revenue that you may have otherwise spent if you didn’t get those rewards.
You and others may have spent, in the future, gems on boosters and on the Legacy Armors. That’s lost potential revenue if they were to otherwise give them to you for free.

In no part of my post did I whine at all. I made a valid argument and supported it.
If someone supports your product ahead of time with a preorder, they get rewarded (see ‘preorder bonus’s’). Therefore, if someone supports your product for an EXTENDED period of time, they ALSO should be rewarded. Why should a brand new player who has done absolutely nothing but open up their wallet pay the exact same price as what the digital collectors paid at launch and get all the same stuff PLUS MORE? And for people like me, who bought the ultimate edition, why should we receive LESS than a new player, even though we’ve supported the game longer? If someone buys it now, they get everything I have plus some, for the same price I paid a year ago. Explain how that’s fair to me.
Your argument is laughable. Have you never heard of a promotion before? This is just a promotion to add players to the player base to increase your enjoyment of the game. If they were offering otherwise unobtainable items for buying the game now, then you might have a small argument, but they aren’t they are just offering a few bonus freebies for new players containing things that have been available to us for months.
And as for “losing future revenue” they can forget about getting any revenue from me. They aren’t going to support the players that have backed them for a year, they can forget about me ever buying anything from this again.

You received less than the new player? You mean the year’s worth of content and enjoyment this game brought you? You think a skin set and 10 boosters is more valuable than that?

Promotions are limited time, that’s why they are promotions. Unless I completely looked over it, this is not a promotion. It’s a brand new entry level of the game available to be purchased.

I bought the Collector’s Edition. I don’t expect to get the new stuff for new players. I think it’s great they’re doing it.
I think it’s fantastic that they’re adding more content and perks to entice people to buy the game. I really want more players to join. What I don’t understand is why companies only cater to people that don’t own it yet, and do nothing for the people that have had it and supported it.

If you really think these perks have more value than the last year of game play then you should:
- delete all of your characters
- contact support and get a game refund
- re purchase the game to get said perks

Anet has sent out free minis and kites to supporters over this past year. We also have partaken in one time events that new players will never get to see. (The quality of those events can be debated, but none the less, free content for long term players).

Heh.. imagine if ANet offered all new players the max rewards a player could have acheived since headstart so that they were “equally valued” versus all the players who got to experience that content w/o having felt they lost time due to not having bought it then. “New player entitlement”
Would love to see the forums explode with that one.
@Beorn I didn’t think of doing that, honestly that is a great idea. Even though I have had it for as long as I’ve had, will they give me a full refund on it? As of right now, I have no intention on supporting this game any longer.

I have gotten mail from ArenaNet with 3 free minis and a free kite for buying gems in the past. So I would argue they very much do stuff for those that support them.
These free items are a profit increasing alternative to a price drop. Basically they are giving new players free gems and spending them for them instead of dropping the price another $10 in an attempt to maintain or raise copies sold over the next few months.

This is the best argument I have seen or heard all day. As far as the free minis and kites, I must’ve been inactive at that time because I have bought additional character and bank slots and never received anything. The profit increasing alternative is a fair argument, I’ll give you that, but unless they have something new instore for veteran players only, there’s no way I will spend another dime on this game. And hopefully, I might be able to just get a full refund and be done with it.

You have a limited time to request a refund, if you have been playing from the start, you are FAR past that limit. Besides the point that doing so would be beyond dishonest. This is common in most games. It is nothing new and frankly complaining about it is childish. Almost every major game, both MMO or otherwise has done this. They come out with GOTY editions, Gold, Platinum, Unlimited, Special, etc, etc, etc. None of these are given to the original purchasers of the games, why should GW2 be held to a higher standard then the rest of the gaming industry?
Because GW2 frequently tries to hold itself to higher standards. They are trying to ‘set the bar’ if you will, and make online games and MMOs come to a new level. If they really want to succeed with that, they need to show some love for the veteran players as often as they help out newbies. There’s no call for offering new rewards to new players and nothing for returning players. I get discounts on MMOs with subscriptions all the time, and free playtime just because. The other week, I got an email from blizzard with a free week of playtime for WoW, and a 3 month subscription with a discounted price, RETURNING MEMBERS ONLY. While GW2 can’t do this because it has no subscription, it can do this in other ways. And it has failed to do so, in my opinion.
If you feel you should get these items you can do the following:
1. delete all characters on your account
2. Request a refund on your account from Anet.
3. Use that money to purchase the game with the new promotion in place.
You will now have spent the same amount of money but you will receive the additional items as well. That way you get the same offer and items as all new players.
Note: the refund policy limit is 6 months I believe.
Note 2: Having your account refunded will permanently delete all progress in the game you have made.
For the record and before all you “gtfo and go back to WoW then” people start jumping in, I have no intention of taking advantage of that offer. It was purely an example.

The real confusing thing is after a year of owning the game is ~15 gold in stuff really that big a deal to you? 15 gold is literally 3-5 hours of doing the living story stuff with a level 80 right now.
If you feel you should get these items you can do the following:
1. delete all characters on your account

Also once you request a refund you can never use the same payment option again. So if you paid by credit card, that card is then blacklisted forever.
@zudet we already covered this, people that have been playing since launch like myself are passed the deadline for a refund. Otherwise I gladly would’ve accepted my money back, and would not have repurchased the game with it. I already stated in my initial post that I have no want or need to fund this game any longer, why would I repurchase it?

If you don’t like the game then why are you here? I would encourage you to find a game you enjoy. Clearly the new offer isn’t aimed at you, it is aimed at new players who think the game looks fun and want to try it, it is a bonus for them.
I’d say after playing for a full year you have gotten your money’s worth.
I love the idea that they are having another edition out. It entices even more people to buy the game. Especially the ones that try out the free trial. More people=better game as far as I’m concerned.
I walk into a car dealer to buy a new car, fresh year model called the GW2 Normal Edition in August 2012. The dealer is a real sweet talker, so I instead opt for some stereo and GPS system upgrades called the GW2 Digital Deluxe/CE. A YEAR LATER, August 2013, the new year car models are coming out called FF14/TESO/Wildstar Editions so the dealer offers a few more fluff upgrades over the now year old GW2 Deluxe/CE editions and calls it the GW2 Heroic Edition.
Are you going to walk into a car dealer, one year later, and demand the additional free stuff because you feel entitled to it? I really hope not – and if I were the dealer I would just laugh it off.

That is a fair argument, and I agree I have played for the full year. But what are they doing for veteran players? Why are new players receiving bonus’s and returning players are not? What’s stopping them from doing something like pay $5 to gain the extra bonus stuff, or even just giving it to us for free? It’s all digital items, you can’t compare it to a physical transaction. They literally lose nothing by giving it to players that already have that account level. Yeah, they lose the money they COULD have from players purchasing those things from the gem store, but now a lot of players are kitten ed off and probably aren’t going to purchase them anyway. Would you really say more people accept that the new players with the exact same account level get more, than players that disagree with it? Maybe I’m wrong on this but I feel very strongly that returning members should never be exempt from things new players get. That’s part of being a returning member, you shouldn’t have to miss out on anything or pay full price for a new game just to get the same thing as a brand new person.
And as I have said before, you can NOT compare physical items to digital ones. How can you put a price on something that you simply have to click on a persons account and change the account level access? No I would not demand a new car, that makes no sense. But I would demand that they do something that costs them nothing, and is most likely just automated (requires no work other than the initial setup).
But I would demand that they do something that costs them nothing, and is most likely just automated (requires no work other than the initial setup).
In a market where all items are digital, and have a marginal cost of zero, asking the market to provide free items because the incremental cost is zero, is the equivalent of asking the market to set all prices to zero to match the cost.
Doesn’t work like that.
I got the collectors edition too and I don’t feel like they owe me a kitten ed thing
You got exactly what you paid for, and that pretty sweet Rytlock figurine (mine has been rechristened Simon and now has a pretty bow around his tail) was the bulk of the cost for the CE. Not to mention the fancy tin full of art prints and the audio CD.
To be honest the rewards they are offering in the heroic edition are pretty weak, they should at least be giving these new customers something you can’t get in the gemstore for pocket change. Are you really so upset you’re going to quit over skins that are worth like £8.50 (and don’t even look that good)?
- contact support and get a game refund
Don’t think that’s possible anymore. If it was they would have a back log at this point. I’ve got a friend that said he tried recently, would like to help him out if you have any information. His game is only about 3 months old if that helps. He bought it but hardly played, plays league again full time.

I think more people are upset that there is no way to upgrade without buying a full edition again. You have to love how the people who put the above ignore that fact though.

Can we please just let this die? It’s a freaking promotion. It’s to entice people to buy the game, particularly those who are doing the trial. The armor skins are in the gem store and have been since launch. If you haven’t got them by now it probably means you didn’t want them anyway. 18 slot box? You should have a dozen by now. 10 EXP boosters? I’ve got more than that still in storage, haven’t touched them. In what way am I entitled to get these just because I’ve been playing since launch? I’m not. I don’t want them. I don’t need them. I’m happy with the status quot. Please just let these threads dye and keep the self entitlement to yourselves.

It wouldn’t be an issue for me if we existing users could at least buy the armor instead of having to buy another copy of the game.
You can buy the armor from the gem store. It’s the Krytan, Primeval, and Profane armor skins that have been available since the game launched a year ago. You want em? 500 gems. Have at it.

You say you’re not whining but dear lord this has whine all over it.
The answer is pretty simple, it’s how they draw in new buyers. What lured you in a year ago will most likely not draw in newer players now because what you got is not worth the actual cash to in game gold ratio. Just as an example.
It’s not just MMO’s it’s everything that works exactly like this. You buy a car today for 10k USD, in a year the EXACT same car will be 7K USD with a ton more added to it.
What you got that the people buying the deluxe/special/whatever it’s called version now is you got the “drive” your new and exciting “car” way before they did. You had the exact same “advantages” they have over you now because at that time that was the best that was available. You also get the xxx amount of hours you put in to the game and gear and everything else you already have that they do not.
HOWEVER! I will make you a deal right now. Delete all of your characters, all of your items, destroy everything you have in your bank, disband any guild you have and leave all guilds you have and spend all your other currency (Karma, laurels, dungeon tokens) and then destroy what you have gotten from those and I will personally gift you all the items these new players have gotten that you did not get with your version of the game, that way you will be in the exact same position as someone who has just bought the deluxe version of this game. I am willing to do this because well golly, I’m just a stand up fella’
Didn’t you hear about the new Legendary edition for 2014 including legendary weapons? it all marketing to pull more players! brillant!… oh, who are you? you already paid, get out of here!
Didn’t you hear about the new Legendary edition for 2014 including legendary weapons? it all marketing to pull more players! brillant!… oh, who are you? you already paid, get out of here!
I hope you’re kidding. Because a 500 gem skin, 10 exp boosters (that we either have a ton of thanks to achievement chests/dailies/map completion/etc. or we don’t need at all) and a 1-2g 18 slot box is worth the same as a legendary.
In case you forgot, we got a free 15 slot box for Wintersday last year, we also got a free 20 slot box during one of the Southsun events. People who have bought things in the gem store have received free minis and/or free kites. Plus playing a year ago when we didn’t have this inflation 1g could get you 120-240gems, now its less than 30, so you still have a bigger advantage over any new comers because you have a lvl 80 and can get gold faster than a lvl 1 and/or you had your chance a year ago to trade gold for gems at a higher rate. Also in a couple of days people will get their B-day gifts, which is also free, and will take others a year to get (and when they get their 1 year gift you’ll get your 2 year gift). We have all of the back skins from all of the previous content, etc. And the helm skins during the dragon bash event. All of those things cost you nothing (besides you playing the game) and new players don’t have any of it.
I also have the CE, and over 1k hours played. Heck yeah we got our money’s worth (and the value keeps increasing with each LS). Would it have been nice, if they gave people who already had the DD or the CE versions, sure, but why would you expect it? Besides, personally I’d just throw most of it in the bank to my ever growing pile of boosters and skins. The only way you’d have some sort of valid complaint was if it was something new/unique (be it gear, mini, whatever) and we couldn’t get it in the gem store (or backlogged or through current content) ourselves.
People bought the Collector’s Edition because of the extra add-ons with it. You “collect” them. If you didn’t want the extra stuff then you shouldn’t have bought it. Ez.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but you abuse the privilege.
I don’t see a big problem here since all the things in heroic edition can be obtained in other ways. I would see a big problem if those things were impossible to obtain in any other ways. As I understand, the legacy armor skin is the same of HoM. I have a 50/50 HoM, worked hard for it, but it doesn’t really upsets me if other people will have it without effort.
i just want that 18 slot bag…. lol
As I understand, the legacy armor skin is the same of HoM.
It’s not. It’s just the gem-store skins that were based on GW1 armors (Krytan, Primeval & Profane).
There’s really nothing for anyone to envy, or get upset about. It’s all just tat that any player could have picked up in the past year, if they’d actually wanted any of it before it was being handed out.
The funny thing is if, before this version was announced, they had mailed everyone with a Digital Deluxe or Collectors Edition (or even all existing accounts) 10 XP boosters, an 18 slot bag and their choice of the armor skins I absolutely guarantee the forum would have been full of people complaining that it’s a scam to force us to buy bank tabs by filling it with useless crap that they have to give away free because no one would buy it.
All of these things have been in the game since launch. I’ve got a heap of unused XP boosters from Black Lion chests I open on the rare occasions I get a free key (I wouldn’t buy them because it’s not worth it). 18 slot bags can be bought for less than 1g each on the TP.
The armor skins are arguably worth getting, and can only be gotten from the gem store. But until now almost everything I’ve seen about them on the forum is that they’re ugly and only worth getting because the medium skin doesn’t have a trench coat. Now suddenly they’re must-have items that everyone is hurt and offended they don’t get?
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I don’t even understand why this is a problem for so many OLD players. Do you even know what the Heroic Edition gives you? Most of it is worthless for anyone who has played the game for more than one week.
Why do you need lousy experience boosters after a year of playing the game?
Why do you need a 18-slot box when you can get them dirt cheap from in-game?
Even the Legacy armor can be bought from within the game.
I honestly don’t understand why this promotion is such a big problem for people.
