The only problem with this monthly is that the JP did not replace WvW. WvW need to go. Everything else have been changed in the monthly, some of them changed every month. It is time WvW gets out too.
If monthly is to make us try out various things why make us try this one thing every month when it only takes one monthly to find out if you care about WvW or not.

I honestly love all the other monthly bits. I loved all the changes.

So Anet wants us to make 20 plus level 1’s and gate to Lions Arch? Thats fun.

Because not everybody joins in the same month? It’s probably there to let newer players know it exists.

And then screw them for not being able to do fractals/ going in WvWvW without Lv 80 gear? By your logic why didn’t they implement this on the first month?

not every month is gonna please everyone. not every part of the game is gonna please every one. there is probably someone out there who hated building snowmen opening pressies or killing toys for last month but love JPs. i for one, think it’s a nice change, and of course, that’s my own opinion.

i love that each month changes, and who knows. maybe February will have something that you’re going to die for. just hold out until then. ; )) this, i agree, the ways around it is silly, but maybe you can add to it by doing them… i onno, without swiftness. or use keyboard turning. or use the doubel mouse button method. or do ‘em in tonic form. just for a different experience. race friends? and put wages in? have a guidl event? plenty of things you could do to make it fun. unless… if you’re not into that sort of thing.

it’s january 1st and i’m 51% finished. it is really rather reasonable imho. the only lenthy one is the jumping puzzles but consider that with 3 alts you have 4 wvwvw puzzles, and 3 in LA. that’s 21 jump puzzles discovered in about 20 min. you need 30 total in a MONTH.

In order to get the January month achievement you have to complete 30 JPs. In other words, if you already have them all, you are forced to do them again in order to get the achievement, is this some kind of a joke?

Because it’s more to do in the Grind MMO.

You have a month to work on it, if you put any effort into it, you’ll get it done. While you may not enjoy doing some of the individual achievements, no one ever said you were suppose to.

Anyways, finished earlier today, 100 events is the one that takes the longest.

Love how this is a massive issue, but forcing people into FOTM isn’t…

Even you are at fractal lv50 you can just go and do 51 and 52 to have the achi. This imho is fun. But just visiting 30 jps is no way fun.

Once again, i am looking for just one key point with all of those achis, i want to have fun while achieving them.

Going to LA multiple times is another exploit that we are forced to participate in because how many of us can find 30 unique JP’s again.

No what isn’t fun is spending hours in LA trying to get a fractals group going if you are low fractal level. The Jumping Puzzle one actually adds to the game world by having people go out and explore again instead of stuffing them away in their own private little corner which only makes the game feel more and more dead. THAT isn’t fun.

I didn’t say its hard. I dont care about its reward. Its the principle of the thing. Your “guide” is called exploiting a broken system. It demeans everyone.

If they had said complete ‘X’ UNIQUE dungeons, then its an actual task because at least you had to go and experience the PvE world. Now its just mindless repetition. Thats my complaint!

(I know low level fractrals are easy and fractrals are fun the 1st time through, but grinding it over and over again is the opposite of fun).

why so much hate for the Jps they are fun and easy

Because the core argument in favor of jumping puzzles to date was that they were entirely optional.

Now they’re required as part of the monthly achievements for January.

It’s easy to argue that those achievements are optional, of course, but for more casual players, those achievements are one of the few ways they can keep up with the more regular players in terms of obtaining karma and tokens for forging.

Really, I’m much more bothered by the fact that Fractals is still required. It made sense being there in November, but this is January now. And Fractals was a huge part of the update that made many people quit this game. The devs should know by now that even the people who like Fractals aren’t keen on being forced to keep running it for monthly achievement points, and those who don’t like it probably don’t like being reminded about it every month.

Seriously. Don’t force players to run Fractals if they don’t want to.

I totally agree Why Fractals? Lets force players on to our gear grinding mill O.o again and oh again….

Read my previous post! I hate it because its easy. I don’t want easy. That’s why its worse. Because its exploitable! Why else am i complaining. Telling me its the easiest because you exploit it doesn’t prove anything except how bad it is.

Another thing, I don’t WvWvW because of lag and culling, not because i’m scared of you. But that is my fault so i didn’t complain for 5 months.

Edit: Spending Gems for achievements is easier. Takes you less than 10 seconds. Is that acceptable?

In my opinion the puzzle achievement is fine as it is.Why?Because when you get to it IF you are casual you won’t bother with it if you are hard core you will do it.
Here is what i do.
As a pro jumper I decided to do only the 4 WvW puzzles every day.I don’t only enter but i actually finish them.I’ve focused on one character only.I do it like this only because i want to extend the time of the achievement.

Yes i can do it in one day with one character using LA’s overflows OR using many characters by positioning them at WvW and LA but why to do it like this?
The hard core people will find a way to complete the achievement the way they want.
They can if they want to go to 30 different puzzles and do them. That i’ve been considering of doing.I decided not to do it because i will finish in one day and there is planty of time for the achievement. We are in the 2nd day of the month lol

I’m a jumping puzzle lover i have done everything many times including holiday puzzles.
But the monthly has to be for everyone not only for casuals or hard core.
The current monthly in my eyes is fine.

But as i said before, anet can’t win here.Someone will always complain

The average casual player doesn’t give a rat’s butt about achievements, karma and tokens. You’ve got your facts wrong.
Also, a casual “keeping up” with the non-casuals doesn’t make sense…

You know, reading this, I realised they should do monthly achievements the same way they do the major event ones (like Halloween, Southsun Cove & Wintersday).
Some people don’t want to do jumping puzzles, some don’t like fractals and others can’t stand WvWvW. So why not make more achievement tracks for monthlies, yet require less than all? That way people could choose which ones they want to do.

For example, there could be 6 achievement tracks:
50 kills in Wuvwuv.
15 Fractals.
30 Jumpin Puzzles.
100 Events.
100 People ressed.
5 maps completed.

Yet only 4 of those would need to be done to get the achievement.

Thoughts?

And I’m a nutter for JPs. Love ‘em. I have a reputation in my guild for “Accidentally” finding them when helping people map areas.
A guild member and I had a fantastic time last night doing the one in Eternal Battlegrounds, and it was a great guild experience. I’d done it lots of times before, but the achievement gave us an excuse to go back there. While many people hate the PvP aspect of that one, I find it adds a vital frisson to the game.
My very good friend even suspects I had something to do with the implementation of this monthly achievement, stating he “Doesn’t know how you managed it, but you’re an evil, evil man”.

That said, while I found fractals fun the first time around, I can’t stand the mentality of wanting to do them over and over again and really hate having to play those same maps more than a few times, so that’s my personal bugbear with this achievement.
Really can’t stand them and what they represent.

“Say, we have a game that’s all about massive amounts of players getting together and gameplay evolving through the interactions of those players! Let’s ignore that whole idea and reduce the game to something that really doesn’t play to the strengths of the genre!”

Seriously, instanced dungeons completely remove the first M from MMO.

Perhaps they’re switched up, so people try different parts of the game. If its something you don’t like, move on. Believe it or not, everyone doesn’t like what you like.

If its something you (generalizing) have already done, like finding jumping puzzles, and you don’t feel like going back, move on. Not everyone has found them already, not everyone has done them. It leads folks out there to try things they haven’t done before, or haven’t thought of doing. You aren’t the focal point of the game, there are other folks out there.

It only takes 10-15 minutes to finish the jp monthly. This only works when there are overflow servers

Step 1: Park your character in front of a jp in Lion’s Arch
Step 2: Hit f12 and character select
Step 3: Log back in with the same character. You should be in a different overflow server now. (The counter will go up by one for each different overflow)
Step 4: Repeat until the counter doesn’t go up anymore and then use an alt.

And there’s people that are forced to do WvW for monthlies when they don’t want to (sorry, but 20 mystic coins and 10 jugs of karma very difficult to pass on), and that’s been every month since launch. I really don’t see the big deal here with the jumping puzzles. No viable alternatives exist for WvW apparently (despite players asking it to be changed), so why should a viable alternative exist for something that will probably happen just this month?

Hey, no need to jump on me. I love the jumping puzzles in this game, and am going to do it the “hard” way, even when I don’t have to. I hate the Fractals part of the monthly, but I’m going to bite down and do it no matter my feelings. If I want the jugs, I need to do the chores.
To be completely honest, if they don’t change the way monthlies are structured, it won’t stop me doing them.
But again, in my previous post, I do suggest something that ArenaNet may want to consider adding to lower the amount of angst that is generated every time they release new monthly requirements.

I get the feeling that a lot of people are more interested in forum one-upmanship than actually reading that which has gone before.

So its not just doing the multiple JPs again (like doing 30 of the same one, once a day)? You have to actually do 30 different ones?

From the posts above it sounds like you can do the same one over and over, unless its dependent on the overflow servers to do. Or are the overflows only used to get the monthly faster?

skullmount: It’s character locked, so you get a “point” for discovering the same puzzle with different characters, so if you have the default 5 characters, you can “discover” the same jumping puzzle 5 times.

Others are also recommending exploiting the Overflow mechanic to get these points quickly and easily. That’s not really in the spirit of the achievement, but there’s nothing stopping you from doing it.

Overflow servers seem to be used to get the monthly faster. Its very similar to the pumpkin carving achievement during Halloween and the snowman building one during Wintersday.
