Legendary weapons
So, when will I be getting a partial refund? Or some sort of compensation?
That was one of the things I PAID MONEY FOR as part of the expansion.
If they don’t start offering partial refunds they’re going to have a lot of chargebacks to deal with from angry customers that are sick of being lied to.
If you or someone else that was looking into the legalities can post follow-ups it would be greatly appreciated. If they abandon what was promised, they’re straight-up lying and expecting to get away with it.
Someone posted this link but I’m still reading it.

So here’s the primary interesting part:
…a representation, omission or practice is deceptive if it is likely to:
- mislead consumers and
- affect consumers’ behavior or decisions about the product or service.
In addition, an act or practice is unfair if the injury it causes, or is likely to cause, is:
- substantial
- not outweighed by other benefits and
- not reasonably avoidable.
Depending on what you bought HoT for, this decision could potentially check all of the boxes. However, unless you literally only bought HoT for new legendary weapons and nothing else, it’d be hard to argue that it is “not outweighed by other benefits.” If you enjoy gliding, raids, elite specs, new story, pre crafting, new skins, guild halls, the three existing (soon to be four) new legendaries, or want legendary armor, HoT at least partially outweighs the lack of new legendaries.
Mike, with all due respect, this is a disgraceful..
If we look at GW2’s current state, we can hardly say it’s in a good position..
- WvW is in a dire situation (Although an update is Coming Soon™)
- PvP is a total spam fest, kitten show, with elite specs dominating the field
- PvE is meh at best, with new map metas being heavily stuck behind time gates
- Masteries are pure grind
- The HoT story started brillianty, although was clearly rushed towards the end
- Dungeons are essentially dead
- Fractals are SWAMP MOLTEN SWAMP MOLTEN SWAMP SWAMP SWAMP
- Raids seem to be implemented well, although it’s far too difficult and time consuming to form a team.
Now the new legendaries (That were a HUGE selling point of HoT – to me at least) have been “postponed” which in all honesty, looking at Arena Nets track record, we can safely assume mean cancelled. I’m now begging to doubt we’ll see any new legendaries until the next expac.. We clearly won’t see them this year and then in 2017, more and more teams will most likely be pulled away to work on the new expac (like with HoT).
Mike I’m a HUGE fan of the game (See how much I’ve spent on gems :S) but from what we’ve seen recently its just nothing but bad news coming out..
I seriously HOPE (pun intended!) that you guys can bring this back, but we need good news and fulfillment of promises ASAP!!!!!!
Well that’s one way to deal with the amalgamated gemstone problem >.>
Based on the enormous amount of time the legendary weapon team has spent on fixing bugs associated with the collections, maybe you should rethink your acquisition methods to move it more in line with pre-HoT (or make the precrafting procedure a more simple gold sink), as it seems that the difficulty comes more from making the “journey” than the weapon models.
Also….maybe make a weapon that more than two professions can use….

Obviously a disappointing decision, and while I understand the potential necessity, I sincerely hope you come back and finish the set after Living Story gets rolling. While it’s true there wasn’t a set timeframe for it, and indeed the article announcing the new set could be interpreted as saying parts of the second set wouldn’t even be in HoT, “we will be releasing new legendary weapons in small groups at regular intervals until the full set of sixteen has been added to the game” is hard to interpret as anything but a promise. I’ll be looking forward to whatever comes next.
In other news, the Black Lion Skin team is busy cranking away at another set of 19 weapon skins ready to purchase next month!
I bet what won’t see any slow down or indefinite suspensions is the production of Outfits, BL Weapons, and Gliders.
This is truly a sad day. I’ve supported the GW franchise and Anet since 2004. It may have very well just ended. The money grab is so real at this point.
Another sad thing is that since Heart of Thorns was released, there have been 112 gem store skins added to the game (Dominator, Soaring, Timekeeper, Merciless, Plasma, Immortal, Improvised). No problem allocating resources to that, was there?
This. I’m disappointed, sure – but I wouldn’t be so mad if there wasn’t so much gem store stuff. 6 months for 1 legendary (and its not even the one people wanted), but they can release oodles of gem store items?
I am very disappointed, that reminds me when we complained about how bad it was WvW and fast some people paid by gw2 with insults telling we were whiners, to say the least, in the end, people leave world vs world, and other Gw2, this news disappoints me a lot, but it’s not the end of the world, just wont play Gw2 anymore.
People seem to be unclear that “suspended indefinitely” is a very delicate way of saying “cancelled.” Yes, it means that there is always the potential for this field to be picked up and worked on again, but the plan is not to spend any more resources on it. Ever.
“suspended indefinitely” no more resources devoted to it until other objectives are complete. Doesn’t mean that a developer on his lunch break won’t work on it if hes bored. E.g. of Lunch Break Content: Court Yard “Team Death Match”
“Cancelled” Not going to happen period. E.g. : Guild Wars Utopia
“Fixing the core game” is the condition – new Legendaries aren’t going to happen… (which is not a cynical way of saying the game is terrible and beyond redemption)

And regardless of whether or not they may finish them later, this still goes against what was promised and paid for with HoT. “Suspended indefinitely” is not “small groups at regular intervals”.
Yep, can’t argue with that!
As the #1 player on the recently added fractal leader boards I’d like to chime in and ask if we could change the new shortbow to shoot donkey’s with the ANUT symbol on their rear that fly out on cool glider skins and leave a trail of gems.
Okay. I’m missing something here: Why does it take 5+ devs over the course of 2 years to name, model and create quests for (let’s say 6) weapons? I love this game and all, but we’re talking over ten thousand hours of labor for… nothing.
You are right, there are 2 Nikes, 1 who got suspended from all Testing, another that goes to any website associated with GW2 and trash talks players.
I’ll let you tell everyone which of the two you are
YEAH! And outing some poster will totally prove that suspension of legendary development isn’t a horrible decision that countermands what they previously promised they’d do!
(edited by James Quall.6029)
I see this as a good thing. The shift from casual friendly content/gameplay/loot to the traditional ‘longterm progression (timesink/grind)’ and ‘endgame (elite content for a minority) ’ model was never a good thing in my opinion. It was catered to a very vocal minority, who advocated to be ’the veterans’, while in reality where only a fraction of the playerbase.
In this case it would have been better if they repurposed the raid team first.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
You can’t have everything, something has to be sacrificed … please do notice how he said suspended and not cancelled.
Given that we paid for them in advance, we should indeed have “everything”.
If they have to sacrifice something in order to do that, they should start with gem store items. Not something we bought several months ago and that has yet to be delivered.
I wonder if this isn’t actually some preparation for an april fools. But well, it ends up being a joke either way.

For UK buyers who want their money back, here are some things directly from the Consumer Rights Act 2015:
“Every contract to supply digital content is to be treated as including a term that the digital content will match any description of it given by the trader to the consumer.”
“A change to any of that information, made before entering into the contract or later, is not effective unless expressly agreed between the consumer and the trader.”
Legally, you should be entitled to get a refund for the expansion.
Jesus. This sure isn’t Anet’s best day. First this disaster of a move (and the associated blow to their rep) and then they also get some person they appointed (and who thus represents them) openly trolling and insulting users on their forums. Lovely.

That’s a fair statement to make and I do agree. However, If something needs to be sacrificed and tossed on the back burner so other content can be finished. I’d rather them do it to something that’s not a major deal.
Legendaries are on Par with Ascended Items
All you’re missing out on is stat switch and effects. Most of which people complain about anyways to begin with. Case in point: Dreamer, Kudzu, and Bitfrost because feminism / nature = bad apparently.
If Legendaries need to be shelved to get Bugs / Broken Content/ Fractal Back Piece completed then so be it.
If it’s just be trashed to finish Expansion 2 as a couple people are claiming, then I agree it’s a horrible Idea.
I do agree that Gem Store shouldnt be getting much new items if Dev work is an issue.

Honestly I’m trying to be patient with Wolfey, because I know he’s thinking of the other one (‘Euronike’ I think?). And most days he’s a credit to the fan base who uses his title chiefly for good.
I’ve never been a Tester. I’ve also never discussed GW2 or its players on other boards.

I am absolutely livid about this decision. I paid for content that should have been ready and delivered in one package. I’ve been patient as hell waiting for this drip feed of updates. But now you want to just up and cancel it because you dont feel like working on it? This is NOT good business. This used to be my favorite game and I’ve put a lot of time into it. But this has put a real sour taste in my mouth and I don’t think I’m going to want to spend another penny on anything from arena net or ncsoft.
Good luck getting people to preorder your next expansion.
What’s that old saying?
Fool me once…. shame on me….

Yes, looks like legendary weapons as endgame goals are ruined. I bet raids are getting scrapped after 3rd wing, too.
I must be one of the very few people who actually bothered to sit back and think before typing….
I’m sorry, were you about to launch into some apologist drivel? Because I stopped reading after you thought you’d open with insulting EVERYONE.

I must be one of the very few people who actually bothered to sit back and think before typing….
I actually agree with Mike on this one… It’s better to focus on more important issues than more cosmetic options. Every weapon we can use in the game has a Legendary option. Currently, Legendary weapons offer nothing unique except for effects and hot swap stats. There is not even any real lore tied to any of them…. E.g. Who wielded Dreamer for the first time? what amazing feat did he or she do with it?….. All we know is that it’s a play on “The Lover and the Dreamer”.
I’d rather the Dev team focus on things such as :
-Buggy / Broken Quests and Story Missions
-Fixing known Fractal Issues
-Fixing and Releasing the Legendary Fractal Back pack
-Fixing WvW and making it playable
-Making PvP tolerable, the current Matchmaking system is garbage
-Improving rewards for PvP & WvW
-Working on Living Story 3
-Working on a ton of class bugs, such as the druid celestial avatar icon eating half the hp bar cosmetically. There’s a ton in the Core game as well as HoT that needs to be addressed.
You can’t have everything, something has to be sacrificed … please do notice how he said suspended and not cancelled.
If anything, I’m more annoyed that WvW is still neglected heavily and PvP is still a broken mess.
Collin is gone, let Mike clean up any messes and lets see where things go.
The thing is you’re not getting those things. Because 70 Devs are worling on Xpac2 already without finishing Xpac1. Maybe you should have thought about that before typing…
Those people who are upset have a right to be so. They were promised content which is now put on hold not for LS3 but ultimately because Anet started with Xpac2 already which no one wanted/needed after HoT.
There’s nothing you can say against that. Not without making a total joke out of yourself.
I failed to see anywhere in Mikes post that he published today that stated all the resources are being pulled from every aspect of the game for Expansion 2.
“As game director I have to make tough trade-offs. One thing I believe is that we have to focus on the core game first before taking on additional responsibilities. I wrote in the Guild Wars 2 Design Manifesto in 2010 that our vision was to create a living, dynamic world, where there’s always something to do. Let’s ensure we succeed on that front.”
Ahhh the power of reading…. Amazing isn’kitten
Keep in mind, Mike is cleaning up what ever messes were left when Collin left. Stuff Collin was working on that Collin did not deliver on with Collins Team.
See a pattern?
I cannot express how utterly airheaded you sound. Your title seems to keep the proper volume of blood from reaching your head. Stick it. You’re not getting any credit, especially for your attitude.
And with that said, get back on topic, you’re breaching ToS by slinging mud (“I used my brain before typing compared to everyone else”). A great example and role model you are.I love how you dodged the bolded point I brought up.
It’s almost like you don’t want Mike to succeed or give Mike the benefit of the doubt. All I’m seeing is you bringing up points that Mike has not brought up. I have failed to see anything in Mikes post that states hes going to take all developers and place them in Expansion #2. As you and others are going around and stating.
“120 devs working on live game, 70 devs on expansion 2, 30 devs on core teams that support both.” – Reddit AMA notes.
70 Devs which work on an expansion not even 1 year after the first. 70 Devs which would be direly needed to fix bugs, hook up collections, implement features (Guild Anthems anyone?) or generally improve/balance HoT and the base game.
Just because you choose to ignore that fact doesn’t mean it’s not there. But oh yes, taking 6 Devs off legendaries which were part of HoT which people paid for is clearly the best option… Let’s just pretend those 70 Devs are non-existant.
…….
Breathe my boy. In. Out. That O2 needs to get into your head. That said, I don’t have anything else to say to you. Consider yourself ignored and move on. Tüdelü~

You really think devs will finish this in the lunch break if 6 people working full time on it were making so little progress? How naive.
“You can’t have everything, something has to be sacrificed”
Yes, that “something” should be the next expansion. Pull everyone off the next expansion and deliver on your promises. Fix this now or it is going to get ugly.
Exactly. You can’t just take away a major selling point of the expansion, something people paid for, and expect it to be okay. This is going to get uglier and uglier.
Anet needs to start offering refunds of their accord before all the chargebacks roll in.
Good.
Make the hard decisions. Cut the cruft and fix the rest. I wouldn’t care if you took the next 9 months just to fix and polish what’s left over instead of rushing more content into the game.
Make the hard choices, and I’ll feed a few more hundred dollars into the gem store this year. I’ll pre-order the top-tier expac. Here’s all I ask:
Ignore every suggestion on every forum. Identify and prioritize work that addresses the biggest pitfalls and provides the most benefit to all players. Then stick to this plan once it’s made, do it right, and deliver.
Every forum has proved the statement time after time: None of us is as stupid as all of us.
One faction kicks, yells, screams and curses for a change, which is reacted to the same way by others when implemented. We’re a raging, frothing at the mouth, selfish and short-sighted bunch of twits who are completely unqualified to give direction to ANet, regardless of how great we think we are.
For the love of the game and all that’s holy, please: Ignore the cesspools and stop allowing the floaters to drive the game design choices.
Jesus. This sure isn’t Anet’s best day. First this disaster of a move (and the associated blow to their rep) and then they also get some person they appointed (and who thus represents them) openly trolling and insulting users on their forums. Lovely.
Yea I thought openly “calling out” people on forums was irresponsible because he can get a mob mentality going against those players. In his position, it’s a really crap move. It doesn’t have the same consequences if you or I had done it.
Also not pleased about them working on a new xpac after they basically just announced they’re halting work on what they promised for HoT. Cmon guys, we BOUGHT this already. Reallocate your human resources to finish what you promised and what people bought. PLEASE. Work on what we already spent money on.

Volunteer with a title that should have been removed a year ago roughly.
Do keep in mind that 2 other Forum Specialists have posted in this forums, one of which posted on the same Caliber as I. But of course, because I have a different opinion then the masses I guess it’s cool to solo me out
No skin off my back. Take your best shot.
Still laughing at the fact that people think I have some special rights. I’m Just a player with an Email address to send reports too, that is it. No magical infraction or delete button or anything. Nor do I represent anet in any fashion. In fact, I can’t take credit for anything I do legally nor can I use this for any opportunities in game or in real life.

It’s true. This does go beyond Anet and this crap will SPILL OVER NCsoft’s credibility. Lying to players and taking their money is not going to go over well with the internet around. The word will get spread quickly enough.
Here’s all I ask:

Considering its anet more likely we’ll all get suspended/infracted and then all that will be left is his post.

Considering its anet more likely we’ll all get suspended/infracted and then all that will be left is his post.
Which they will also ignore, because he suggests they should actually release finished products instead of rushing things half-done, then abandoning them when something else springs a leak, as is the current fad.

Those 70 people should halt work on the new xpac indefinitely and finish up HoT. It’s too bad that the actual devs don’t have a say and it’s all upper-management decision.
I’m sorry, but this is so wrong. We paid for that content, it’s been months since hot’s release, and it’s still not here. Don’t put people to work on next expansion if you haven’t finished this one. Or better yet, don’t make expansions if you can’t deliver all the content we paid for in a timely manner. This is a big nail in your coffin. STOP with this expansion nonsense. Fractal backpack, third raid wing, legendary weapons and armor, that is what we paid for, not for a season pass.
I’m disappointed in all honesty. I was gearing up to having a cool looking legendary sword alongside Bolt but now I won’t have that for a long time. If at all.
I’m confused, also in terms of content, what we’re meant to do anymore in-game? After hitting max mastery weeks ago again (with the extra 3 included with the latest raid wing) and fractals and dungeons practically being swept aside, what are PvE players meant to do anymore? Grind every single HoT map for all of the possible weapons? Do more fractals until my computer starts smelling faintly of moss and swamp water? I can’t even burn myself out on dungeons anymore after you nerfed them into the ground and stomped all over the ashes. Sure, raids are challenging but with rewards once a week per boss and a cap of a measly 100 shards per week, all the people who get it done on reset are bored again for a week.
/sigh.
I’m not sure what I have left to keep me going now, honestly. All I’m ever logging in for nowadays is my friends and my Guild. I don’t think many others will think the same.
Thank you for being upfront and honest with the community.
Looking at the rate of which the legendaries were being released before this announcement, I can see that we were never going to get to releasing them all before even the next expansion. Realistically it looked like years. The same with other things like the WvW rework and more Open World content, things have slowed down and the balance has been disrupted. So I commend you stepping in as the new design lead and setting things straight with us. There have been wider development issues that extend beyond legendaries and it’s great to see you acknowledging this and seeking to direct resources to fix this.
For as much as people are disappointed with elements of the expansion which have not yet to come to fruition. There are bigger fish to fry, namely game modes and maps. I much rather see living story updates over legendaries anyways, the community centred content are vital to the core of GW2. The game sold me on it’s open world, the fashion wars elements has always been secondary to me.
It’s important to note that new legendaries are just suspended for the foreseeable future. Doesn’t mean we won’t see them ever again, just that there are things in dire need of addressing first. Seeing as they were taking 6 months or so to release one or two legendaries, it makes perfect sense from a management point of view to do what O’Brien has done.
It’s unfortunate that the new game developer has had to inherit this dilemma but it is encouraging to me to see him be realistic rather than try to overhype a way out of this situation. We’re in a transitional period and I’m willing to give O’Brien a couple of months to get the game back on track.
That’s not to say that I don’t agree with people who say that developers currently working on the next expansion shouldn’t be redirected too. You must do whatever needs to be done to fix the problems plaguing GW2. Especially if the Living World is truly delayed until late 2016 like was alluded to. That above Legendaries is a major crisis especially when that goes to the very heart of what GW2 is all about. I’m glad that we are getting back to earth.
I don’t get it. So many people ask for communication but when it’s something they don’t want to hear they grab pitch forks. I don’t agree with the decision even though I will never invest in a legendary but I would rather anet come out and tell us the how and why of the situation like they did. Take the good with the bad and be glad that you where at least told about it.
Sadly now it’s time for my one problem. The legendary weapons where promised as this expansions (or season pass) content. If the developers where not 100% sure whether they would be able to ship this content they should not have advertised it.
It just gets harder and harder to believe Anet has the resources to create and maintain enough content for Guild Wars 2. Dungeons, my favorite type of content, have been almost completely abandoned since shortly after launch. Despite the decision to support Fractals instead, Heart of Thorns launched with no new fractals. While the expansion had enough new skills between the elite specializations and Revenant, the quantity of open world content was small enough to be comparable to mere DLC. And now we have to wait even longer to get the legendary weapons we’ve been waiting on for years. Will the next expansion be as bleakly limited in scope as Heart of Thorns? It’s getting more difficult to believe it won’t be each day.
Because it took them almost 8 months to communicate content they have been hyping up for almost a year. They been talking about all of this before Heart of Thorns was even released.
Use your brain, of course consumers are going to be upset 6-7 months after the fact.
Rushed expansion, poor project managers, ect. There is no excuse. People paid $$$ for the content they hyped up, they failed to deliver said content.
i bet the finished skins of the legendaries that wont make it ingame will appear in the gem store at some point gg anet
“One thing I believe is that we have to focus on the core game first before taking on additional responsibilities.
So pull people off the new expansion? Isn’t that another responsibility? Legendaries were promised a long time ago. This is a joke right? You’re building up to April 1st already. I paid $100 thinking all this stuff was coming.
I think there really needs to be a balance. Maybe come out with the legendaries you already promised like many people said, and then stop the production on new legendaries. Shift somethings around, in a way where it wouldn’t impact something so big. Just my two cents.
(Also did they also plan to come out with new fractals too?)
(No tea no shade, But HoT was not worth the price that it was listed at imo.)

I made this statement in one of Vayne’s threads not that long ago.
So, I expect that Vayne will get the content he and doubtless others are after, sooner or later. I also expect that the wait will be too long for some. What I wish I didn’t expect is that some group is going to get thrown under the bus in the process.
Sorry to see my expectations confirmed.

Frankly this is disgusting, unprofessional and the type of crap that gives Steam Greenlight games a bad name.
