I can understand regaining adrenaline, and max health, but why the blow out? If your ranged it wont matter, however, if your melee class, it is counter productive, unless your on the point of death, and in any case your returned to full health, and now have to run after the mobs, you were just trying to kill.

It helps rarely, and hurts most of the time.

It can disrupt control of Defiant stacks, spread out the mobs you just neatly gathered, and makes things more frustrating to the group. Unlike weapon/kit based knockbacks, you can’t really control this AoE toss.

it was indeed only helpful in the first few weeks of gw2 when i was so much noob i was happy about any cc of enemies that gave me a few seconds

until i noticed that i get much less dmg from enemies if i can just kill them quick enough when they are all on 1 spot

but basically after that first time i never found the blowout useful anymore (maybe 1 in 100 situations …)

not even if you are about to die it’s useful since you get the fullheal anyway

an AOE STUN of enemies instead would be cool!
if anet changed that i would be happy
(but this would still sometimes screw up your perfect use of CC on bosses because of Defiant… but still better than the blowout!)

My experiences in the Labyrinth demonstrate how much this is not a problem: every so often (certainly less than once per door) a knockback happens from someone leveling up. Someone says “no knockbacks please.” I explain about this. At least one person every time says something like, “I’ve been playing the game for 2 years (or have 8 level 80s, etc) and never noticed that.”

If so many people don’t even notice it, I doubt it’s that much of a problem.

Many other games give you full health (and MP) upon level up. I think Diablo was the same although I haven’t played it in over 10 years. The blowout is likely something special that they wanted.

I tried to explain this many times in the Labyrinth too … they are pushed back a little but the effect seem to be greatly exaggerated if you level up right on top of a stack of mobs. It also don’t work everytime so i can understand why some player never noticed this before.

This push back effect was abused in WvW with Tome of Knowledges , when downed you could use the tome to push back your opponent , refill your health and rez yourself. Today they cannot be used while in combat.

the way experience is distributed, its fairly unlikely you level up while fighting is why.

I thought the effect was cool the first time I saw it and it has had its uses on occasion, but the problem is, everybody notices it during lab farming and not in a good way. Cause those doors are designed almost perfectly, so that some guy is going to level up while killing mobs and not be paying attention enough to create some distance before the blast goes off.

*No innuendo intended.

Or words to that effect.

I know I wanted to start the same thread, so I would argue that the need in the launch is indeed very debatable.

We’re doing daily Lab runs with our guild and we prefer to keep it clean and fast: stack, melt down, gather loot, move to next objective. Rangers spamming their skills and knockbacking and selfish people opening doors before everyone comes or pulling Lich and causing a wipe or lying dead and not waypointing are annoying enough to spoil the fun of a friendly, but efficient farm with some TeamSpeak chit-chat. Level-up knockbacks are yet another thing which spoils the fun in these and similar events; people’s poor skills are one thing – after all, everyone’s been a newbie once! – but the level-up knockback is something which can be easily eliminated.

If so many people don’t even notice it, I doubt it’s that much of a problem.

“So many people” didn’t know how to dodge that they had to put in a dodge tutorial. “So many people” were using 14-14-14-14-14 trait builds and never used traits that they had to revamp the trait system. “So many people” found the game so confusing at first levels that they dumbed it down.

And I remember a guy with full map completion and a legendary who asked us “What’s a sharpening stone?” during Crown Pavilion. So… Sorry, but ignorance is not an argument.

Once Halloween’s over, you won’t hear anyone complain about the blow anymore.

Any other zergfest with people leveling their alts will be this way.

20 level 80s and counting.

This has actually been a minor frustration for me for a long time. I frequently solo supply camps in WvW by pulling the NPCs together and killing them with AoE attacks. If there are supply dolyaks in the camp, they usually die quickly, rewarding me with a burst of experience from their events. This causes a level up every once in a while, launching the remaining enemies, and usually giving the scouts (with their annoying blind fields) a chance to heal.
