Last night I logged on and sat around LA for a while. Considered doing some dungeons but then thought why even bother getting gear that in 2 days will be obsolete? Then I also thought with this new gear and new dungeon the exotics that enticed many to run these dungeons will be gone and we will all be on the hamster wheel of FotM. Despondent about a game I really love going this way I logged off 20 minutes later. Has anyone else felt that way?

I am watching the trading prices of Orichalcum rings and Orichalcum itself. I will continue to run dungeons, for the aesthetics and to help my friends with their Dungeon Master Achievments. As Arah is finally unlocked, many of them, and an alt of my own, can now progress to the end of the story.

Ascended armour irritates me, but I’ll play the grinding game. I don’t want to give up on GW2 just yet.

If that’s the case I don’t see how the new tier is a bad thing, it will at least motivate the OP to play dungeons.

If they were skins, why are they exotic then. Cultural & order armor is skins imho (as it is rare armor and therefore far from max even under current max definition).

Whatever is fun for you, go ahead and do it.

I didn’t think GW2 was about getting top gear and quitting, at least not for me.
People can’t even see, unless you show them, what your gear is. So it’s only for you.

I totally get that ANet has not lived up to what they talked about pre-launch. When it’s ready and assorted campaign promises… But let’s be real — the one thing they did deliver is a game that gear doesn’t matter much and you can get full exotics with crafting/gathering, a credit card, dungeon runs, karma, wvw. That’s still true and that gear still will have the same stats it has now. But it was never intended that as soon as you get full gear, you’re done.

I have no motivation to play since the blog post.
It makes no sense to gear up any of my characters because new content with better gear is comming. If I level any of my alts it means I have to gear them up too later on in the game and keep on doing that forever.

I don’t think I will be able to log in again. Honestly I really want to ignore this feeling of disappointment and just play but if I imagine the whole “gearing” up like I did in WoW to play the content… no thanks.

I’m in the same boat. Yesterday was the first time since headstart that I had the time and opportunity to play, but just couldn’t get myself to. I logged in, stared at the screen for a moment, then logged out again. No matter how much I was originally looking forward to the Lost Shores update, today I made the decision that I will not return to this game until they come with some significant improvements… especially in the way ArenaNet just waltz over things they ‘promised’ earlieron.
Haven’t played Path of Exile at all for the past 2 months… maybe I should go back there and see how much that game has improved.

I felt the same as you but rather quickly found a way to keep playing without feeling demoralized. Don’t play for armor. Ignore the stats. Follow your other goals, acquiring unique skins, getting titles and world completion. Transmute what drops for you on the skins you like. Don’t waste time chasing something you can’t be 100% sure you will be able to achieve.

Guys lets look at the real reason…

If you want to use your gear from all the old instances and well everything now… you have to get the gear then BUY the TRANSMUTE STONES from the BLACK LION TRADING POST to be able to give the old gear the stats…. Great money making scheme… keep doing this every couple of mouths and more and more gear you need to buy transmute stones for.

I think this is silly because most people prob’ly have had their gear for a while, don’t you think? I just got a full 2nd set (magic-find) of exotics. Yet despite not having anything to gear-up for, prior to the blog post, I still played.

I’m deeply disappointed in ArenaNet in many of their decisions, in the many weeks that my son’s storyline has been blocked by a bug, in the portal-bomb-culling-fest that’s wvw, in When it’s ready™ and related lies.

But having/not-having top gear… not gonna qq on that.

Had I known we were going to see another tier in the gear structure I might have played the game differently and put my time all into one character.

Now I’m just discouraged and think I might pack it in.

im on the same situation, i log in only to chat, or flame with the people that i know in game…
My main char is full exotics, but i was starting to do massive dungeon runs to acquire better skins to use, and experencing WvW now that im with maxed stats. But this incoming patch, has drained all my desire to play.
I really dont wish to start a gear collection to be always on top stats like any other kittening games! and this is why i bought this game.

Because your Exotic gears going to last at least 2 if not 4+ months before it’s replaced.

Based on current content patches, as that’s all we have to go on.

November will be lost shores, and will introduce a new area, dungeon and 2 rings and a back pack.

December will be Wintersday, and will likely involve content and an event circling around that, so it’s less likely we’ll have more Ascendance gear added.

So realistically we’re looking at January for the next lot of Ascendance pieces, which if they follow Novembers trend could only be another 3 slots of equipment.

Claiming there’s no point in getting exotics is naive to say the least.

If two ring slots and a backpack makes you not want to log in I’m pretty sure you have other issues you need to address. That said even with full ascended sets exotics will be far from useless seeing as the power increase is so minute it won’t even be noticed, the only major increase will be Agony resistance which only matters at the absolute hardest levels of the dungeon.

I generally run pugs to do dungeons after I get back from work. It generally takes me less than 2 minutes to fill up AC exp on Stormbluff. Last night it took me over 10 minutes. I gave up on HotW and CoE as no one was ready to do it. Both of which I could fill in less than 5 minutes in general.

My friend-list was pretty much at LA. I believe, it is the effect of wait and see as the new patch is in the looming. The effect got accentuated a bit more because of the introduction of items that will make current items obsolete. Thank you for introducing mudflation ANET.

… even with full ascended sets exotics will be far from useless seeing as the power increase is so minute it won’t even be noticed, the only major increase will be Agony resistance which only matters at the absolute hardest levels of the dungeon.

Why do it then? Why fix something that is not broken? Why not merely add agony resistance to the existing armors after completing a story-mode version of FotM?

Please do not argue based on fallacies. ANET is introducing gear treadmill to please wow crybabies by deviating from the core principle of this franchise. That’s the issue here.

How about you guys just wait and see how they play things out? Oh wait I’m asking people on the internet to do something sensible, what’s wrong with me? Oh well I’ll continue to keep playing in my exotic and still keep killing bads (which there are A LOT of, seriously there are so many bads that play this game).

Adding in ascended gear is not a gear treadmill, it is adding in a harder to obtain tier of gear that actually feels like you worked for it. It would only become a treadmill if they
increased the stats of them every single content patch forcing you to participate in dungeons to “keep up”.

I’ll state this again, you do not need ascended gear to do the fractals dungeon, and presumably further dungeons down the road. The only time you will ever need it is for agony resistance which only matters at the absolute hardest end of the repeatable dungeon, I can almost guarantee this won’t apply to most people playing this game. Think of it as “hard mode” gear, something to strive for beyond exotics.

Logged in last night for the first time since Mad King. Tried to do a dungeon with a fail pug of bad players. Got bored and had no motivation to do WvWvW because 1) servers are imbalanced, and 2) ANET nerfed badge drop rates which is a slap in the face to players who don’t want to play a Korean grindfest game.

Deimos what you’re missing is where linsey says “This is the first level” “lots of room t grow” “as we add more pieces and more tiers” “rare and special infusions” “more to come”

So yeah.

It’s pretty much wholesale whoring the franchise out after only 3 months on the market and a gear treadmill without any interesting or redeeming mechanics at all.

How about you guys just wait and see how they play things out?

And what exactly do you think is happening? They are not motivated because they are now being cautious. If time is money and they have to consider how they spend it well, don’t you think they’re going to pass on currently available content until the armors are released? They’re in the state of “Why bother?” when there isn’t enough information. Will their time have been wasted? Will it be worth it?

Funny that you are up in arms and telling them to ‘wait and see’ yet that is what they are doing. Waiting and seeing if they should invest any time in doing anything at all.

One Dungeon, and only One Dungeon. The Dungeons that already exist will be ghost towns. Good luck finding a PUG for them after this. It’s pissed me off enough when other games have done this after YEARS, but having such a huge swath of content crapped on like this three months after launch is bizarre. I honestly don’t know what ANet is thinking, and can only assume we’ve all terribly misinterpreted everything they’ve told us so far.
