[Merged] Cultural Human T3 Not Exclusive
I’m still waiting ANet to fix this. This is absurd.
The only voice you have that matters is your wallet.
Keep spending money on this game and you aren’t voicing discontent.
The fact that we didn’t receive any prior notice that they even were planning on doing something like this makes me feel completely betrayed. It feels like a real slap in the face to all of us who spent our time and money since 25th August 2012.

Hey, everyone. We’ve been reading all your feedback about the Flamekissed Armor Skin that was released into the Gem Store yesterday.
Although the Flamekissed Armor uses the same mesh as the Tier 3 Human Cultural Armor, it was not our intention to create an armor skin that so closely matched the existing Tier 3 Human Cultural armor set. The intention was to use the mesh as a basis for creating an armor set that stands apart and is distinct in appearance. However, after reading your feedback, we agree that the Flamekissed armor is not visually distinct enough from Human Cultural Tier 3 armor.
We will do a few things to address this issue.
- We will temporarily remove Flamekissed Armor Skin from the Gem Store.
- Players who have purchased Flamekissed Armor Skin will keep the skin.
- We will make new art for the Flamekissed Armor Skin that achieves our goal of making a visually distinct and attractive armor set and does not closely resemble the Human Tier 3 Cultural armor.
- Once this new artwork is completed, we will then update the Flamekissed Armor Skin so that all existing sets that players have purchased get the new art. We will also offer the Flamekissed Armor Skin for sale again at that time.
- When we update the Flamekissed Armor Skins with the new artwork, any player that has already purchased the set and who does not like the new, updated look, can get a full refund by contacting Customer Support.
Note that there is no ETA on when this change will happen. We need to work with the Character Art Team to determine when we can have a new armor skin ready, and this could take some time.
Thank you everyone for providing your feedback. We appreciate that you took the time to let us know how you feel about the new armor set.

Since the 3 day head start I spent around £2000 ( yes three zeros) if not more (need to put all Paypal transactions together) , and this is how they repay us (the paying customers), probably will not make a difference for them if a customer like me leaves the game, but hopefully i will not be the only one.
Disappointed in lazy design (and bad at that), looks naff and just a rehash of old armour rather than new, would be annoyed if I had spend gold on human cultural t3 as well…. and if your going to go down this lazy route then please release all other cultural to the store but maybe with better textures, by the way all the armours take inspiration from existing armour sets not just the light

Thanks for the update Regina, a sensible solution
Regina, again you made a good, no, you made a great call. Rock on.
/faith restored.
I’m appreciative of this decision. Although I’m only one person, at the very least this solution has restored enough faith in ANet for me to continue playing despite the Scarlet debacle.
Thank you again for listening to us.
could this PLEASE be the LAST lava/fire/molten thing we see on top of players?
you know… its getting a bit repetitive and meaningless since it has NOTHING to do with what we do at the game. Maybe molten aliance,… once… just maybe… but this is going to far.
kthxbye
I was waiting out on buying this in case you decided to change it.
This is a good solution!

Thank you so much. Im just wondering, will all 3 armor tiers getting an art rework? or just light flamekissed? Thanks again for taking the time to reply to the community.
Thank you for acknowledging the mistake and hopefully something like this won’t happen again.
Regina -
Thanks for making this detailed call so quickly after the concerns were voiced.
As you guys are finalizing conversations with the Character Art Team, could you please come back to the community and give us an indication of what the Art Team’s thinking is in how they approach the new set? Basically, just a short comment like “the CAT was trying to come up with something that was visually appealing to X cultural/lore reference” or “the CAT is working to make the light armor skin more in line with the medium and heavy armor skins so that they all look a part of the same skin set.”

Now how about fixing the trainwreck that’s the female Phalanx armor. Tons of people were really upset about that too. Did we not make enough threads on it?

I’m sorry but I gotta call you out on this bit. There is NO way possible this was merely non-intention. It was the EXACT same skin with fire added. The same coding was used with some additions. Copy/Paste+fire
You get a refund, Allyoh. It says so in the post.

Looks like someone didn’t read it:
- Those who bought it can keep it for the moment.
- When they update it, it’ll be changed.
- If the player isn’t happy with it, they’ll get a refund.
How is ‘being allowed to keep it or have a refund if you’re not happy’ not fair compensation?
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
I am SO happy to get a reasonable response from ANet on this. Thank you. I think the solution is quite fair.

They are compensating you. You get to keep the armor. If you don’t like the new version you can get your money back.
Thanks for the answer and the fact that you agree with the community. I simply hope the new skin won’t look like the cultural armor too much, as you said you took it as a base for a new skin.
How is ‘being allowed to keep it or have a refund if you’re not happy’ not fair compensation?
Because he wants to keep the armor as is. I do to. A totally fair and correct result would have been to remove it from the gem store, redesigning it but let those who have bought it keep the existing skin.

Just wow. I absolutely, 100% did not expect this, ever. You are making the correct decision and my faith is partially restored. (will never be 100% cause I feel the company greatly deviated from the manifesto and went 180 on gear treadmill). However, I have to give you credit on this and I am glad you have listened to the player base.
Might I highly suggest the PvP Masquerade light skin as an already available, highly desired, PvE light armor skin.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
Wow, I literally just bought the armor from the store 10 minutes before reading about ANet’s response. I like it as-is, but I think ANet’s response is appropriate and I’m excited to see how the armor look is updated in the future. I’m also glad I grabbed it now before it’s removed =D
This forum is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. ~DevilLordLaser
I just hope this “new art” you are talking is indeed new (good looking skimpy light armor) and not another re-skin of a crap looking light armor.
This actually makes me really sad. I loved the appearance of this armor and have always thought as some others have posted in this thread that culturally exclusive armor only limits options (especially when we can already use other cultures’ weapons, as well as culturally themed armor via dungeons).
I’m just really disappointed that the look I purchased so loved on my Sylvari is now going to be changed. (And I’m saying this as someone who bought T3 human cloth back in the day for the full gold price.)
I’m happy though that all who were upset over this are now satisfied, though. I sincerely am. It’s cool that ArenaNet listened to the concerns of the playerbase.

+100000000000000. Thank you so much Anet team!
And unfortunately they can’t make everyone happy, obviously people are going to be upset if they used the gems to get the set. A refund in gems is a fair trade in my opinion, there is plenty in the gem store to use those gems on, or save for a different set. People are just going to be upset they can’t have their cheap and easy t3 armor anymore.
(edited by WhiteRose.6934)
100% satisfied with the response and action to be taken. Once again Anet restores my faith. <3
Ok so. My problem is this.
I bought previously the phoenex light armour skin. However, when I saw the new set in the gem store I bought it and skinned over the pheonex set thinking it would be a permanent thing.
Now what if the changes you make to this set are distasteful to me? I lose my phoenex set and this set? And what do I get for refund? The Gems? I would much prefer I got my gold that I spent on the gems back as I have no desire to buy anything else in the cash store after this.

Thank you! Thank you SO MUCH. This is possiblythe best way to handle this kerfluffle you yould have come up with. Seriously, thank you for listening an caring. I am looking forward to the updated design. Your design team can do so much better. Hint for making everyone happy: Let us dye the particle effects on the finished and you will sell a TON of those.

How is ‘being allowed to keep it or have a refund if you’re not happy’ not fair compensation?
Because those that purchased the gems specifically for that now just get back gems not money or in game gold. The exchange rate returning to gold will cost them about half of what they invested and there is no exchange rate to return it to cash. So you bought something it was taken away and you were given something else of lesser value to you.

How is ‘being allowed to keep it or have a refund if you’re not happy’ not fair compensation?
Fair compensation would be guaranteeing that at the end I’m as satisfied with how my character looks in it after they change it as I am now or they give me something else that makes me equally satisfied. if I’d just wanted 800 gold or 10 bucks, I wouldn’t have bought it in the first place.
Unless they’ve got a great plan for this, I don’t see them making up for the money and time I and others spent putting together other things to go with this armor that may or may not match the new armor. And I don’t think they have the pull to get me a day off to start from scratch on a new set even if they did.
There is nothing fair to the people who purchased the gem store armor about this resolution.
Well, as someone who bought it, I really hope I like the new armor set as much as the one it is right now. Otherwise, I guess I’m getting a refund, which I assume will be in gems. =/
Also, I bought a new exotic headpiece because my gas mask skin was on my old one. Sucks for me, I guess. Another thing I’m curious about: if I want a refund, will they split the skin off my armor (which is all exotics)?

Excellent fix.
Acknowledged the issue and presented a solution and proper compensation. However,
I hope you don’t completely scrap this idea of having particles on cultural armour. Maybe introduce it in a different method, perhaps? Like those have purchased cultural armour can upgrade their armour through the mystic forge like upgrading the ascended back piece in fractal of the mist to make it shiny. Short of legendary armour, this is can be the poor man’s way to get nice effects without having to go through the extensive amount of time to craft one.
“I just hope this “new art” you are talking is indeed new (good looking skimpy light armor) and not another re-skin of a crap looking light armor.”
With the other 2 armor types being reskins I would doubt it. If it is indeed new than all 3 sets should simply be redone. Which is probably a good idea to be honest.
Time to learn. “Measure twice, Cut Once.”
How is ‘being allowed to keep it or have a refund if you’re not happy’ not fair compensation?
Because he wants to keep the armor as is. I do to. A totally fair and correct result would have been to remove it from the gem store, redesigning it but let those who have bought it keep the existing skin.
That’s not a totally fair option. Then what about everyone that didn’t get the chance to purchase the “now super exclusive” armor? I’m sorry, but this is the most fair way. You can get a full refund if you don’t like the new skin. But as it stands now, this armor is not fair to the majority of the playerbase (paying or not), as most people roll humans.
ArenaNet came up with the most fair solution.
Anyway, although, I do have to say that the Quality Assurance needs to be improved. This armor should not have made it past QA in the first place. I realize there are different teams, some that may not know every detail and aspect about the game, but there should be a team that catches these sort of mistakes before they happen. The same goes for no waypoint being present in the fractal storymode.
yes, I think they should just re-designed all 3 sets. just adding effects to existing skin is terrible.
Maybe release reworked versions of all cultural armour to the gem store, then make the actual cultural armour ascended and let us choose stats on first equip? Not a perfect solution by far, but might take some of the sting out.
And add something unique (effects?) that would visually differentiate the Cultural and the TP sets.
Aside from changing the TP purchased T3 armor to something else, I think that this is the only acceptable and viable option.

Its only not fair to those who bought the T3 set which is not nearly a majority of the playerbase.

That beggars belief I’m afraid.
This. Which means they did know what they were doing and just didn’t expect the uproar that would ensue.
Most likely they don’t know / care if someone deliberately made the decision or whether it was an error in judgment. Most likely no one knows or cares why. No one’s heads have to roll because of a poor judgment call. And it probably wasn’t done with “evil intentions” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanlon's_razor
There is something to be said to allowing them to back out gracefully and made the change while maintaining their dignity. Isn’t it enough that you called them on it and they agreed to make a change? It’s enough for me.

And I thought all hope is lost. This surely made my day! I’ve been a little down since the set came out. Now, it’s time to start gw2! ^^

So let me get this straight.
Medium and Heavy armor are still stuck with the rehashed karma armors ?
While you’re confirming that light armor players are getting a new armor set ?
If we ask for a refund will the armor be rolled back to what we transmuted it from?
