Having completely separate currencies is favorable to linked ones.
That way if one gets messed up it doesn’t effect the other currencies.
I.E imagine there was a conversion for WvW tokens to other currencies, balanced to the originally drop rate, then they added the achievement chests and EOTM. It would instantly devalue the other currencies.
Plus it prevents stockpiling. So that playing one area of the game doesn’t allow you to get the rewards for the whole of the game.

The event will end up like the Scarlet Invasion ones did: people will tag the events, and then leave them to tag the next one without finishing the first one (expecting other people to finish it for them). Yay. :\

The meta in scarlet invasion was failing the event by letting all on the map stack on one commander in the AB phase and farm lootbags I would say that was even worse mentality than this.

Regarding the Mordrem Invasion event:

Why are players rewarded/encouraged to tag a few mobs and leave an event, rather than grind it out and make major contributions?

While the reward bug is indeed annoying,, I am far more frustrated by the fundamental design of this event. Players are being rewarded the most for contributing the least. The best rewards (when fixed) will go to those players that spend the most time running between events, and to those players that spend the most time looking at loading screens from WP jumping. Meanwhile, players actually completing events get a consolation prize.

Is there any chance that you can better encourage players to actually contribute for their rewards? This is really disheartening.

Hype Train officially derailed…

What if… it’s a trap. If ArenaNet is going to retroactively reward players due the bug, that means they’re tracking it. Anyone with 30+ stacks is obviously leeching. Let’s see if ArenaNet takes this opportunity.

One day, hopefully they fix the contribution system. That day will be gloriously filled with complaints. Unfortunately, it will likely never happen for various reasons (too taxing on the servers, events won’t be casual friendly).

A good fix would be have rewards rival the tag and leave system while giving gold, silver, and bronze ranks more meaning like gold having better loot.

Splitting up is not a problem, but tagging an event and leaving can scale up the event too much for those who stay behind to finish the event, slowing the overall progress of the map.

Seems to me they should give the blooms based on gold/silver/bronze rating. It would solve two issues, people dc’ing and losing all their stacks, and people running around tagging events.

Gold gives 5 (as you put effort forth),
Silver gives 3
Bronze gives 1

Tagging 30 events would net you 30, but participating in 6 events gets you the same. And its pretty easy to be in 5-10 events. I found it a decent bit harder to run around tagging.

Mordrem Invasion reward scheme (once Anet gets it working) is faulty by design – your blooms scale by the number of incursion events you partake in. This makes tagging in to as many events as possible the most effective means of getting the blooms and the rewards behind them. However, tagging and running to next event is quite counter-intuitive, and can hurt the cooperative effort of the map. So, that’s the problem explained, now for the fix.

Make each incursion two events. The first event is as is right now, but doesn’t increase the event counter that your blooms scale to. The second one triggers once the first is completed, scales to the amount of players present (in order to not die too quickly, so as to not prevent people present getting their credit, but fast enough that you need to be in the vicinity to make it), and counts for the incursion counter. Of course, some would still attempt to tag the second event and run, but sticking around for the full event would be far more lucrative than it is now.

What you are describing is pretty much the very first Scarlet Invasions. It was a two part meta event. The first part was the scattered events across the map done in phases. The second part was fighting a scarlet hologram boss at a single location that everyone had to get to. They scrapped the boss fight part of the design this time around for unknown reasons. There was also no personal counter per event completed if I remember correctly.

I do remember the Scarlet invasions, but what I’m suggesting is quite different – instead of one boss fight at the end of the meta event, there’d be a second phase in each individual incursion event that would contribute to the reward score. The distinction between the two phases would be largely mechanical in nature – in action it would mean that in order to get credit for the reward score, you’d have to be there to the end of the incursion event.

It’s still too few for the length of the event. If it was going to last a couple of weeks, then 0-10 is ok, not great, but ok. An event that’s only lasting 4 days and needs so many blooms to buy items, that’s too few.

This event will last 5 days and I have to work 3 of those days.. these events take place 1 an hour for 3 hour stretches… I only get 10-30 blooms per event.. and the rewards are items that have not been released since Living Story Season 1. There is absolutely no way I will have enough time to get even one skin in this event in this time frame with the amount of blooms being rewarded over such a huge span of time.

Wintersday and halloween were designed much better. If I only had 3 hours a day, I could farm those events to get what I wanted and enjoy myself. But with this event if I have 3 hours, I’ll only have time to do this event once or twice a day if the “break” doesn’t happen during my free time. And if I get disconnected I loose my chance at getting a reward at all.

Seeing reports of how few blooms the event rewards… ArenaNet, please extend this event. At least through all of next week, but having it as a full 2-week release would be even better.

You put Selfless and Thoughtless potions up in everyone’s faces, but the only ones who will be able to get those are players who can spend 16 hours a day each day this weekend farming the invasion events, and even then they might fall short.

Some of us have jobs and families and other obligations. We won’t ever be able to obtain 450 blooms at the rate they currently drop. I consider myself fortunate enough to be able to participate in 2 invasion cycles each day, but even then I still won’t get 450 blooms. That’s not right. The reward shouldn’t cost that much if it’s not obtainable by a reasonable amount of people.

I was going to devote all of my free time toward this event this weekend, but now that I know I won’t be able to get the reward I want… a SINGLE ITEM from the vendor… I don’t really feel like playing GW2 at all until it’s over. It makes me sick. I feel like I’m being taunted here.

Please, extend the event, or drastically increase the rewards, so people who play 3 hours a day can still get 500+ blooms from the event.

It was already pointed out during early Silverwastes stages that jumping between events after achieving some minimal contribution was far better reward wise than fully committing to a single defense or escort.

It was also pointed out that this (along with being extremely AFK happy) was a core flaw on the event reward system and would likely carry over any other content designed around the same system.

There was quite a lot of feedback back then, including many interesting suggestions about how mob loot and event rewards could be combined to prevent AFKing or how the current medal contribution system (which is next to useless) could be overhauled to prevent tag-n-run.

It’s extremely disappointing to find that, several months later and so close to an expansion launch (which will likely introduce many similar scenarios), nothing has been done to fix this issues.

It’s almost impossible to get event credit as it stands. In many cases they are over before I’m even reaching them. I think some of the enemies could stand getting about 5-10 times the hitpoints so they would last longer. They could also cut the map cap down to maybe 50 or less while those events are up.

Cancel and push it back till it’s fixed.

an event which is hard to get rewards out of, requires decent map completion and cost a bunch of gold – for both waypoints and rewards – and which will skritt all over you should you have the misfortune to disconnect (which happens often, due to the zerg mentality this event furthers?)

I’d imagine it’s highly popular with new and F2P players… great endorsement of the game right here.

Yeah. This is extremely disappointing. Y’know ArenaNet, some of us have jobs or families or other obligations on weekends… If you put up something as desirable as a Selfless/Thoughtless potion, don’t you think that we should be able to get at least ONE of those for playing maybe 3 hours a day each day? When I saw the vendor I thought “Cool, I didn’t play while this items were available, so hopefully if I grind enough this weekend I can get them all. I have lots of time. It might work”

Now that I know the events… 3 different events… in 3 maps with 30min RUSHING through the map to reach 20 stacks I feel already exhausted.

I don’t mind a bit of grind, but this whole concept sucks. People that only tag get more rewards, getting all items is absolutely impossible, the huge gaps between events make a constant grind even longer…

I’m just sad…. and exhausted.

PS: Without the map-dayly you get 45 blooms in 4h… that is 40h for one item. No thanks.

I have to say, thanks for trying to do something nice for us. Sorry it blew up. Really.

Honestly though, even after the fix for players not getting rewards, the current reward scale is abysmal and leaves a sour taste in my mouth. To get one of the armor skins, your looking at minimal 12 meta events and at an hour a piece your talking roughly 27 hours for a matching set. Which is unrealistic within four days.

I mean sure there will be people that get these rewards don’t get me wrong, but a large percentage of your player base is gated from getting the rewards simply by having lives. It’s really disappointing and frustrating when you release interesting rewards that are realistically unobtainable which is saying something because I play roughly 6 hours a day.

the gated approach to rewards is definitely a bad idea for this. it seems like at 10 stacks you get the same rewards as 18 stacks. whats the point? you should have made the blooms drop from enemies, too, obviously at an uncommon rate, and honestly to avoid people following the “Tag and run” approach. unless of course thats what you want, because getting to 20 stacks while actually staying to complete events isnt really plausible.

truth told, if you want to go THAT Approach, just give us 5 blooms per stack… because at this rate, if you dont manage to hit whjatever the “third tier” is, it takes 4 hours to get 90 blooms.
