Mystic Forge Recipe: Immobulus
I didn’t even know there were giant eyes as drops. How embarrassing.
Yeah giant eyes apparently drop from large moldy bags, not heavy.
But the drop rate is ridiculously low. I simply put buy orders in for my giant eyes. My immobulus is still my favorite weapon, and worth it in the long run, to me.
Edit: people say that they drop from heavies, but the likelihood of that is very dismal.
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?

Kill basilisks for Giant Eyes. I made my Immobulus last year and didn’t find any in the Moldy bags.
And for fun I once asked a developer in game if he could promote my Lucky Charms of DOOM to Legendary status. He declined.
Some forge recipes are ridiculously expensive. I just created the Emerald Amulet (Soldier’s exotic amulet) and it was:
250 gold ingots
250 emerald orbs
250 crystalline dust
50 mystic coins
By BLTC prices, this was an 80 gold amulet that’s only exotic and no one can ever see. What did I pay for? Exotic level Soldier’s…..not attainable through normal play unless you are in one of two dungeons and the RNG gods are not only smiling but drunk as well.
250 giant eyes, however, would cost about 375 gold at today’s buy price….that’s insane. I can see why you went the route of the moldy bags.

Wrong – they also drop from heavy moldy bags. They just have an incredibly low drop rate, which is reflected in their current prices.

I’ve played over 1300 hours and only had ONE dropped giant eye. I had never even heard of it so had to look it up on the wiki as to what it was used in. To be fair, I don’t spend much time in Orr due to abysmal drop rates in general, but I would say that even actually collecting (not buying) 50 of these would be on par with saving materials to craft a legendary. 250 is out to lunch.
Yeah, it’s kind of ridiculous. They need to either nerf the amount needed or increase the drop rate on the giant eyes. I would love to craft an Immobulus for my ele, but right now it’s impossible with these rates and I don’t have the gold to buy the eyes on the tp.

Or 80 gold for a soldiers amulet…..

May I ask which basilisks you are referring to? Not sure which ones drop them.

I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
It is meant to be rare, yeah, although I think that Giant Eyes ARE ridiculously hard to get. Prices are only still reasonable because Lidless Eye, Immobulus and I forget what was the third item aren’t that popular as skins.
Personally, I’d like to see ANet make the following change:
Killing a Giant or Risen Giant will always give you a guaranteed Giant Eye, similar to how killing Veteran Karkas will always give you a Karka Shell. Given how rare Giants are in this game, I don’t think this would flood the market with too much supply.
Giant Eyes are a pain and since I ever only saw one since pre-release, I just bought mine for Eye of Rodgort.
The only reason I can think of why Immobulus requires so many is the select stats feature it has.
Giant Eyes have always been really really rare.
Your best bet is just to put in buy orders

do you loss money opening all those moldy bag?
just take your time opening those moldy bag and resell.
And you can just buy those from the trading post.

You do know that you can buy Soldier exotic gear (armor + amulet – rings – earrings – back piece) with 42000 karma a piece? Its one of the easiest armor sets to buy without every setting foot in dungeon or relying on RNG
Farm gold in the most optimal way (dungeons/champ farm) and buy the eyes from the TP. That’s how this game has been designed to be played.
((Shrug)) Its meant to be rare. Mjolnir and Infinite Light say ‘hi’.
As a player who made mjolnir recently the hardest (not exactly hard but expensive) was getting the 350 lodestones I needed for it. I completed mine in roughly a week and a half by buying and upgrading the cores (cheaper by roughly 40s~ per lodestone) and lots and lots of dungeons, world bosses, and a night or 2 grinding out the champ train.
So getting 250 giants eyes in a week is completely doable if there is supply there to do it.
The only reason I can think of why Immobulus requires so many is the select stats feature it has.
Immobulus used to have fixed stats, and the cost was 250 eyes even then.
5000hours played, most of the time in arah – 1 giant eye dropped from the moldy bag. ONE. and it was this week.
((Shrug)) Its meant to be rare. Mjolnir and Infinite Light say ‘hi’.
There are more ways to obtain Charged Lodes than ever before. They added new sources since launch. The supply is healthy and the market active. Those recipes are easier to make than in the past, whereas Immobulus is only becoming more difficult.

At the time of writing, there are not enough Giant Eyes on the TP to craft a single Immobulus.

Yeah, you and Wanze informed me but I needed to do more research and ended up rushing to get something finished. Now that I know, I am getting my exotic spineguard from Grenth and the Cavalier’s ring I need from Balthazar. It was my first brush with Soldier’s gear, I claim ignorance but I did pay the price for not doing my homework.
Found one of these eyes in 5k hours playtime, thought i didnt specifically search for them.
Hopefully a dev will look at this, maybe.
Bump!
ArenaNet does not play its own game. Can’t be.
I’ve only had ONE giant eye drop since release. I don’t even know how I got it.
I wanted to craft Eye of Rodgort which requires the Lidless Eye (10 Giant Eyes are part of the creation) and a total of 500 T6 blood (250 for Lidless Eye, 250 more for the final product). I took my ranger out farming the highest level Basilisks (L64’s in Mount Maelstrom) for a week, and not one Giant Eye dropped. If the drop rate has been nerfed into the ground then I’d really want to question ‘why’?
Yeah giant eyes apparently drop from large moldy bags, not heavy.

I think the delivery needs a little work. Being a bit more constructive and less in-your-face about how someone’s information might be slightly incorrect will do wonders.
“Obtaining a legendary should be done through legendary feats…
Not luck and credit cards.”
((Shrug)) Its meant to be rare. Mjolnir and Infinite Light say ‘hi’.
Infinite Light should be much more common than it is, or else every harpy warrior in Tyria is filthy stinking rich somehow.
I never really noticed this before, until last night when I was playing on one of my alts. I thought the skin looked familiar.
((runs off to bash more harpy warriors))…
“Obtaining a legendary should be done through legendary feats…

Bump!
Also, as of today there is no longer a supply large enough of Giant Eyes to actually make an Immobulus, and without an actual source that allows me to get some, I won’t be able to get it.
Dark times have fallen upon Tyria indeed….
Giants should really drop 1-2 of these on death. Almost 2k hours played, never seen one eye.
As I said above:
“Killing a Giant or Risen Giant will always give you a guaranteed Giant Eye, similar to how killing Veteran Karkas will always give you a Karka Shell. Given how rare Giants are in this game, I don’t think this would flood the market with too much supply.”
Actually it’s not a bad idea, and would prove a better way for people to progress their ailing Giant Slayer title at the same time.
Win/win.
“Obtaining a legendary should be done through legendary feats…
Not luck and credit cards.”
I got one eye once, 2100 hours here
sold it for like 20 silver back in the days T_T
Legendary SoloQ
Strange how low the price of these eyes are on the TP when they’re so rare. Perhaps no one wants them because they’ve all given up on getting weapons that require them?
Thankfully it’s because the skins created with Giant Eyes are not very popular.
Immobulus – “Sparkly hearts n’ stars wand”. Just like the Wintersday Princess Wand, most players eschew this weapon because of how “girly” it is. (I want one, but I’m in the minority, it would seem.)
Lidless Eye – “Creepy giant eye wand”. Good for a Necro, but not very appropriate for other Scepter wielding classes. The 250 Powerful Blood probably also discourages a lot of people.
Melandru’s Gaze – A rather plain looking staff skin, IMO. The relatively low price suggests this view is probably shared by most players.
Wall of the Mists – Most players I’ve seen don’t seem to want glowy pink/purple weapons unless they’re Mesmers (which can’t use Shields). The skin also shares the same base appearance as the Ghastly Shield, so players who like the look could just get that instead.

Too bad this is not GW1 otherwise every harpy killed would have a chance of dropping Infinite Light. :P

Lidless Eye is also shares its mesh with the HoM scepter.

Lidless Eye is needed to craft Eye of Rodgort- which I admit is personal taste but I consider it the Necro Legendary.
I nearly killed myself crafting it because I had to have it- no buts.
500 t6 bloods was no fun I assure you.
As for pink wispy weapons- I have Vision of the Mists on my Mesmer- it is not the shield obviously so didn’t require any Giant Eyes.
Immobulus on the other hand is one of the best looking weapons in the game imo- I am hating myself already because I think I just might have to make it for my guardian if she actually makes it to 80- so far she is happy with the princess wand and she might just have to stay that way.
If only I can find a staff to match it- and no, don’t say Bifrost :P
I don’t really see too much problem in what it takes to make it,
Personally, I like my Abyssal Sceptre more =p
I didn’t even know the Immobulus existed before this thread.
Now I HAVE to get one for my mesmer.
Curse you.
JQ
I used to want this weapon.
Used to.
Epistemic.8013: Guys this is bullkitten a sentient plant creature is hitting these
wooden doors with fireballs and it’s working.
I used to want this weapon.
Used to.
I did too on my mesmer but it’s just a terrible weapon for much every class (except guardian due to lack of any other actual ranged weapon when range is required) it’s especially terrible on mesmer that it has no place in pve or pvp
Some recipes are just more expensive than others, the mystic forge weapons that are animated for the most part are always more expensive than the ones that aren’t animated (the exception being the blue flame dragon sword….I’m honestly surprised that it’s as cheap as it is)
You’re all liars, the droprate isn’t that bad! I’ve had two in 3.2k hours!

I don’t understand how people are thinking the comment was out of line. Person A says something incorrect, person B calmly corrects them with the correct information, Person A gives a sarcastic, overtly defensive reply while person C (you) gives condescending and unnecessary life advice.
There was absolutely nothing wrong with the comment.
That said, yes, Giant Eyes are ridiculously hard to come by:

Wrong.
Anyway, to those of you thinking about getting this scepter, it is very much worth it. It is my favorite weapon (I’ve made 2 of them) and perfect for my Asura. I received most of my giant eyes from buy orders, about 5 from large moldy bags, and about 50 from various guildies. So they’re out there, I think a lot of the supply might be that they’re collectible and not everyone knows that they have gotten on (because it gets deposited). Needless to say, though, they’re very very very rare.
I’d like to see the recipe get changed, though, to 100 or so (keep it rare but not so outrageous). I think the 250 is crazy based on the fact that most of the time there aren’t 250 on the market, let alone in someone’s bank
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?

You see, the delivery is everything here, in this muted environment. There’s no tone of voice, no gesturing, etc. No one likes being told they’re wrong, straight up. Which is precisely what Vol did. If you see it as condescending then I guess that’s your issue.
“Obtaining a legendary should be done through legendary feats…
Not luck and credit cards.”
Y’all can stop arguing about whether or not Vol or I was rude (as I don’t care if anyone s on my side or not and since I was only responding to Vol and none of you). Anyway, I’ll just first preface this with, I know that RNG is RNG.
I opened 2000 heavy moldy bags. 0 giant eyes.
I opened 750 large moldy bags. 5 giant eyes.
This is where my information came from. But again, RNG is RNG. I just felt that my sample size was large enough to say what I did, and it apparently wasn’t.
Anyway, Immobulus rocks! Let’s talk about that.
