And no, the event started on Friday, but the patch itself went live on Thursday on November 15th.

You keep claiming I am wrong, and yet you provide no proof that I am wrong, while I on the other hand have provided quite a bit of proof that I am indeed correct and your statements about only patches on Tuesdays is clearly wrong.

Please read my first post again that YOU commented on. I clearly stated that i was refering to ordinary patches NOT releases, ofc releases have changes and features added aswell, patches are minor releases two completely diffrent things. Clearly we have different definition on the matter. With that said, you didn’t make a point in my book that changed my mind because i wasn’t refering to releases!

How would you feel if anyone said that they were going to give you a snickers on the 10th of march and you were really looking forward to it, then on the same day they told you that the snickers were broken and that they will give you the snickers bar later without estimated time on the matter. Well that would make me disappointed at least.

Regardless of the whether a Living Story update or a “mere” patch have the same merits, what arcane rule of MMOs stipulates that the delay has to be a full week? Why not Wednsday? or Friday? or next Monday?

You stipulate that the last time there was a delay, it was for a full week, but others have pointed out that it was released right when they said they would. Even if that was false and you’re the one who’s right, do we even know why it was delayed? How long it took to fix? How much extra QA testing was required to make sure they did fix it? It might have been delayed a whole week because it took a whole week to make sure it was working right. The fact that they’re delaying this patch does suggest that the problem is big, but it might be a big problem with a simple fix that they just want to make sure is fixed before release.

Alternatively, if you’re running an MMO and have full control of the patching process, why not keep doing QA testing down to the last second? That thinking, of course, is assuming that the content itself was finished a reasonable amount of time ago, and wasn’t planned to only get finished this afternoon.

Yeah that’s my problem too. If you are going to delay something, don’t do it on the day of the deadline. You can’t convince me Anet didn’t realize they couldn’t make the deadline until the last moment.

That and the fact there is no new release date. If it’s a delay of only one or two days then no big deal, but it could be a delay of a week or more for all we know.

I can live without candy bars and I can live for many days (probably even weeks or months. ) without GW2 updates when they were supposed to happen. It is a video game. Last time I checked video games were not at the base of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.

MMOs are very complex games. Things happen and delays happen. You will survive, trust me. Would you rather they just release a completely busted patch so you can rage on the forum about how busted it is or would you rather they thoroughly test it before release? You know maybe they found some issues at the last minute that will take a bit to fix. These things happen in games.

Would you have rather they said nothing and then you sit there all day waiting for a patch that didn’t come?

You can be disappointed all you want but you will live. Trust me, you will get through it.

Game designers, especially MMO designers can’t win ever no matter how hard they try. Some of the responses in this thread are a perfect example of that.

My 2 cents is going toward the start of the closed beta, :P

I don’t know that I have heaps of patience, but keep at it and keep us posted. If something broke badly enough that you’re pushing this back with only 12-18 hours notice, it sounds bad enough I’m glad you caught it before it promoted to Live.

((My tinfoil hat theory would be they improved the AI of Ranger pets so much that they were afraid to release them onto the internet for fear of dooming the human race. Gotta be careful about those things…))

This is why we can’t have nice things people will cry no matter what they do!!

Sometimes things break at the last minute regardless how much testing already has been done.
Sometimes things break and can’t be fixed in time thus a delay happens.
Sometimes they feel some extra time is needed for some reason.
I would rather have it done right the first time and not 1/2 done so take all the time needed.
So be grateful that they told us 1 day before the patch was going to come out and not on patch day.

It’s still the day before over at Anet headquarters. Day before patch day. Still not great to hear it the day before, but still better for them to tell us, hey that patch we were going to release tomorrow isn’t ready and we wont’ have enough time in the day tomorrow to test what we need to before it goes live. So it’ll be delayed. The time frame makes sense, they were probably hustling today to try and get it ready for tomorrow, but at the end of the day it wasn’t anywhere near ready yet so they had to announce a delay.

I’m sad – time to finish Dark Souls \o/

They have to fix the problem with FP mode when you still see your eyeballs or looking out through your breasts.

In all the years this game’s been out, a promised build has almost never been delayed past the scheduled day. It may have come out late in the day, but I can’t remember one that got this sort of delay before. So something went wrong that doesn’t usually go wrong and surely they are sweating overtime bullets on it.

Any of you unwilling to forgive this, I hope you never miss a deadline in your life even if you have a sudden funeral you must attend or other unpredictable interferences with your plans.

I’d feel pretty stoked that my biggest problem in life was a snickers bar (or game update.)

My schedule for this week was:

MON: Somehow manage to survive
TUES: First person view around Kryta

FRI: Do a happy dance
SAT: Spam my steam friends with my first person screenshots
SUN: Sculpt an ArenaNet shrine and pray to it

Thread was created on the 9th. Update day was scheduled to be the 10th. 9th =/= 10th. Also. kitten. Happens. If you dont understand that whenever you’re dealing with computers, software, and coding, then you’re always going to have unrealistic expectations regarding them.

Fun fact:

• A patch is a piece of software designed to update a computer program or its supporting data, to fix or improve it.

Ergo, a patch is an update, and an update is a patch.

I am working in the candy industry and I will tell you a well hidden secret. I hope I will not get banned from the forums for spilling the beans on that!

Sometimes you notice a batch of your product has been compromised with an unwanted ingredience just when you want to put the package on it.

In the case of a chocolate bar like snickers these unwanted ingrediences are often chocolate bugs – nasty little critters.
As chocolate bugs have an awefull taste, you don’t want to ship your snickers on your regular batch day. Your customers would may not appreciate that new taste and crispness.

So while your customers won’t be happy about the delay, you better go and fix the problem before you deliver the batch. Now you have to find out how the chocolate bugs could get in the snickers in the first place and then you have to make sure it won’t happen again. You may also want to make sure there is no peanut bug in the batch.

When this is all set and done you can finally ship your batch.
As I told you this is a well hidden secret, so you probably won’t read anything about this in the batch notes.
