The main complaint thread has already hit 500 posts and people keep debating their ideas back and forth. I’d like to get some big picture statistics on this. Please only vote once for yourself, using proxy servers and other shenanigans will only muddy the waters. Thank you.

Anet likely didn’t want to remove the armor stats entirely because…well,
we’ve all seen what happens in games where there’s no disadvantage to taking your pants off.

I wouldn’t say that this pick is “P2W” but it is a step into it for future updates.
Anet need to see that this type of item isn’t a smart idea and can’t try to take more steps into the p2w items.

The previous pick was advertised as “The last pick you’ll ever buy”, so best in slot for all eternity. And it was priced accordingly, as for a full set of them you’d almost pay the price of a full game.

Now there is another pick that is better. Thus my original purchase is wasted and worthless as it is no longer best in slot.

Ok most of you failed to mention the prices, the M.A.P was 800 gems = $10.00, now the new ones are 1000 gems = S12.50 so therefore players pay more for the added bonus.
Would I pay another $20.00 to upgrade all my 8 M.A.P’s, heck no!

However Anet you are still abusing, pushing and testing your player base’s patience and from what I’ve read they are getting frustrated and annoyed, can you blame them?

I didn’t ask for a refund for 7 of them because I find that having them everywhere is practical. In all fairness the price on the new ones should be reduced to 800 and the 20% removed. If that’s not gonna happen, then consider this, every time you pull a fast one on us you loose a bit more player base.

I like that sprockets will be continually available in decent quantities in the future, keeping options open for people that want power/precision/healing. It’s far better than relying on time gated home instance dispensers… for everyone, not just the people with the pick.

I don’t agree that it’s pay to win. It could become a slight economic advantage in the future, but a) it’ll take a long long time to make up the cost of purchasing it and b) I don’t consider bought economic advantages “winning” when there are so many in-game options to gain economic advantages and break the trade center already. People buying gems, or “paying to win” are actually working against inflation.

I don’t agree that people who bought the old items are entitled to refunds or reimbursement of any kind. They got what they paid for, and it still functions as advertised. Technology advances, and you can spend money to keep up to date or you can stick with the version you have.

I understand the concerns of people looking it as a precedent for potentially broken advantages being added to gems-exclusive purchases, but right now I see it as just a slippery slope argument.

You are missing the fact they increased the price when it was made account-bound, so only the soul-bound version (the very batch I believe) sold for 800, while when they came back they sold for 1000 gems each.

After reading through several dozen posts by other people and observing the situation these are the main reasons why people dislike the new pick:

1. P2W giving out free crafting materials, this is more than the 0c cost per gather on infinite tools.
2. Gear treadmill for infinite gathering items that cost real $$$.
3. No prior warning about having old gathering tools made obsolete.

Anet likely didn’t want to remove the armor stats entirely because…well,

I can’t find anywhere ArenaNet said this is ‘the last pick you’ll ever buy’. Here is the actual text when the Bone Pick (the previous pick) was released:

’New—Bone Pick

This gruesome mining pick is made from the toughest ossified body parts around and is guaranteed to gather even the most valuable metals without ever breaking!’

If you have another source, I’d be thrilled to see it. =)

I, personally, don’t have a problem with the new pick. I would/may buy one if I find Gold-to-Gems hit a level I am comfortable with. I don’t think it is P2W in any shape or form, just as I don’t feel gathering boosters are. EotM is releasing with the next patch, and as far as I can tell, Scarlet minions are present there, so likely sprockets drop there, as well.

I don’t feel like I am ‘winning’ because I happen to have a Candy Corn node, nor do I feel like I am ‘losing’ because I don’t have a Crystal node. But, that’s just me. =)

Nothing has been taken from me. Nobody will spend 100 gold for a sprocket when you need 500 of them for one recipe.
