It’s nothing like it could have been. There are tons of restrictions for a free account. Not a whole lot should change. The biggest I think is that they do not get daily log in rewards.

So F2P can’t buy gems with gold. Sure they can buy gold with gems, which will lower the exchange rate for non-F2P to buy gems with gold. So this is bad how?

I could not be more offended by this! Me being someone who supported and purchased both GW1 and GW2 before launch and participated in both betas cant understand for the life of me why they would value me as a player and supporter so little.

I paid 70 dollars for my account and also bought 5 more accounts for my wife, kids and sister. I also spent hundreds of dollars in the gem store.

After all that everything I paid for and worked for is just free to everyone else if they want it. My money (which I work for and dont have tons of) means nothing to Arenanet obviously and if I want to play the new content I have to pay the same amount as someone who never supported this franchise who get everything I have paid hundreds of dollars for. I have to pay this outrageous amount for each of my 6 accounts!

Not only do I not have that kind of money to continue to invest in a game that values me so little as a customer in favor of new players who may or may not even stick with the game of help sell more copies or buy gems, but I wouldnt pay it if I did have at least 300 dollars just laying around!

Thank you for ruining the game that I am so highly invested in with time and money and saying to me “Just shut up and have a free character slot” which Ive already bought many of.

I have just lost 10 years of built up respect for this franchise! =-(

lol players already spy so going to F2P isn’t going to make spying worse, but players trolling yes!

What I dont get is why so many people are raging?

They cant move anything off those characters so what harm will it do to have them around? If you cant farm a million laurels and get a ton of t6 mats and mail all that to a paid account what is the harm?

The gold seller spam as already here. Every time I go into LA boom, “BUY GOLD NOW!”

Am I missing things? Attempting to move items Via Trade Post doesnt seem like a huge deal because how much of a risk it is to begin with.

I am stoked because now I can get friends to try the game without buying it. If they like it then cool they will buy it. If not? They didnt just waste money. My fiance has been watching me play and wanted to try out her own thing but wasnt sure if she wanted to buy a copy. Now? She can try it out and decide if she wants to play or not without the 50$ risk.

I don’t think wvw was ever meant to be taken that seriously.

The biggest issue I saw with the TP is that the T6 from laurels could be sold. Now that we know they won’t even get daily login rewards, it’s not an issue. Them being able to mine/log/harvest will not impact the economy as much as you’d think.

No daily log in rewards, no access to guild banks, and restricted TP sell and buy. Tons of restrictions on those free accounts. I’m pretty sure ANet is just doing this to entice people to purchase. I don’t see that gold sellers could possibly profit from this.

There are still some holes in the net, and no doubt people will finds ways around it, but overall seems fairly solid. I was...not angry but very skeptical, and Hopefull these new players will help make the game more interesting and topple some of the repetitiveness we have now. Should be interesting.

People are raging because that’s what the people that play this game like to do. People were complaining about how everything is going to fail and crash and die before reading any information on the new decisions.

EDIT 2: Well only way to go around this (that I found so far) would be to buy some items in gem store as gifts for main account.

They can’t exchange gold for gems (or gems for gold) either so that ones out.

At the moment I can’t see any way to transfer money and items off a free account, except maybe selling to yourself on the TP and that depends on what items you can buy.

Also with login rewards disabled I’m not sure it’d be worth it. You’ll have to earn everything you get, so you may as well just earn it on your main account.

Because its a temptation for corrupt gemstore practices, they now have a massive amount of players which they have no way of making money off of except through the gemstore, EXACTLY what the buy to play model protected us against.

And as much as ANet denies their involvement, as majority shareholder Nexon does legally have a say in the monetization of GW2. You ever played a Nexon game? Imagine a casino IN HELL where you gamble for your basic needs for survival and you’ve almost got an idea of how bad they can get.

This is a really interesting new development that I totally was not expecting, and I’d like to welcome new players who will be joining us soon

I’m afraid complicated arguments about the economy etc. are completely beyond me, lol… but I have a nephew who is just getting to the age where he might like to start playing, maybe with the reasonable restrictions of a F2P account, and I’m really hoping he can join us in our Guild, I can’t wait to have him join me and his Dad in Tyria

So, there are other considerations than just ‘the economy’ for us existing players, the new F2P may bring in people of various ages, for all sorts of reasons.. I’m looking forward to meeting them, anyway

(And I truly hope my nephew will be one of them )

That’s why the T6 bags give far fewer materials than the lower level bags.

The restriction should not apply to people on your friend list (people who have added you) as well as guildies.

And then increase the time limit between non-friend, and non-guildie whispers to 5 minutes.

I mean, nobody adds the spam bots to their friend list or guild so there shouldn’t be any abuse possible.

That’s why there are TP restrictions on what items they can trade, and why individual characters can’t leave the starting zone until level 10. And why free accounts can’t send items or gold through the mail, even to friends.

That first scenario you came up with would require someone to either organize dozens of people to troll a single map, or to spend a ton of time to register a bunch of F2P accounts and level characters to 10 then run them to the boss map and then log them all on and…

Basically, you’re panicking over nothing.

Honestly to me this sounds more like a free trial weekend without the time limit. Reading the massive list of restrictions makes me think I wouldn’t want to stick with a free account, it would get too frustrating.

Which is probably the idea: let people try the game for free and decide in their own time if they like it but if they want to stick with it they have to pay.

the servers seem healthy (pve wise) it didnt need this basically the game was F2P already…

if one cant afford to pay 20 to 40 bucks on the game, then no offense but in my opinion you shouldnt be playing the game then.. why? cus again no offense but once your past 16 u should have atleast your own money to buy whatever you want if u dont then obviously u have other stuff to do..

Lock WvW completely just let them play EoTM theres always salty people who will lvl a alt on enemy server just to ram players into eternal battle ground to keep people stuck in queue.. EoTM was designed to test stuff no? well enjoy free 2 play accounts with your EoTM test PvP..

lvl 60 in this game is nothing even lvl 80 is kitten easy, i bought gw2 3 weeks ago for my wife she didnt know kitten about game and she was lvl 80 in 2 weeks with pretty casual play style and more focused on completeling god kitten lowbie maps then actually pushing to high lvl zones. so imagine a guy who wants alts just to annoy his enemy on borderlands he will lvl up to 60 in no time..

bad move tbh u should rethink this stuff FAST.

Is it possible that server populations will be adjusted or moderated?

They said during the live stream that there will be restrictions but what about people who create multiple accounts and taking advantage of it all…taking up space on multiple servers.

So the loads upon loads of releases you got for free mean nothing to you? You got up to 40 completely free content releases (based on when you bought the game) and you still complain?

But you couldn’t wait a few minutes for the FAQ before declaring how dare they let F2P get login rewards.

PvP should be barred until they reach lvl 30-45. it’s f2p for the core game; they should have to play the core game before being able to branch off same as it is for wvw.

I do not understand this mindset AT ALL. I have played since release, but I have PLAYED since release, meaning I had access to all the content and Living Story and all the changes and items and everything for the last 3 years. Making the CORE game F2P with considerable restrictions does NOT make my money spent less valid, does not offend me, does not in any way affect the game I paid for and played for the last 3 years. We need to stop being such big babies. Sheesh.

However whisper restrictions are probably too low, and there are no restrictions to party invites (and party chat, of course) AT ALL.

Server populations are now entirely based on the number of people actively playing WvW, and free accounts have to get to level 60 to even enter it, so it will be a while before they can have any impact. Which will give Anet plenty of time to adjust things if they need to.

Honestly, dude, I’m more worried about someone who comes on here to complain about hypothetical “brainless tards” than I am about any free-to-play player.

The more people complain about this change and the pettier there complaints get, the more I’m glad that it’s happening. This is going to be fine, holy crap.

I’m not even that worried about the gem store changing that much, either, given that the end goal (given the restrictions) seems not to be for free players to play for free in the long term (and thus be milked for gem sales), but to ultimately buy Heart of Thorns.

Nope.

This is not about the daily rewards. Please don’t merge it into an unrelated thread.

Free accounts shouldn’t be restricted when whispering to friends (people who have added you), or guildies.

Then you can make the whisper restriction on free accounts more strict when whispering non-friends. 30 seconds doesn’t sound like it would hurt spammers all that much because now they can get more accounts anyway.

In the very rare chance that they to eventually adjust the population, it likely would not be for months after the expansion releases to give time for everything to settle as new players pick up the game.
