It’s official, Guild Wars 2 is behind on housing yet…
ANet it saying they are not working on it so should no one to ask about it.
Let’s take a look at MMORPGs having housing, and it seems GW2 lacks… alot.

So when is Guild Wars 2 going to get serious about Guild Halls or Housing?

Are you asking a question or posing a discussion?

If you are asking about when GW2 will get serious, then the answer will be idk. Because I’m not on the dev team.

If you are trying to start a discussion, try to lead with a post that promotes civil discussion instead of using terms with obvious negative connotations and undertones (everyone but GW2, GW2 lacks…alot, when is Guild Wars 2 going to get serious, laundry list of competitors).

That said, I would like to see housing in GW2. In fact, I would like to see a focus on more “non-combat” systems in the game, including minigames that were mentioned prior to launch.

Here’s what people thought of GW1 when it first came out: http://tinyurl.com/bntcvyc

It’s funny that WoW is nowhere on that list.

Rift didn’t have player housing for 18 months after it launched.

LOTRO took 6 months after launch.

Wildstar isn’t out yet. Housing also ‘fits’ in Wildstar as opposed to just being a tacked on feature to make people happy.

Everquest took 11 years to get around to making player housing.

New games just generally have more important things to deal with than making player housing. Anet has said maybe one day they’ll get around to it. With luck it won’t be 11 years. It might even be less than 18 months, but it’s obviously going to be more than 6 months.

Feature creep. It’s a thing.

Edit: Also LOTRO’s player housing was really just the ‘walk in closet’ of bank tabs. It was really kind of bad when I played. I haven’t played the other games when they had player housing though I’ve heard great things about Rift’s player housing.

I quite like player housing when done properly. Developers, however, seem to not be too keen on the idea.

Having said that, given the choices of housing or bug fixes/more content, I’ll take the second option…

Housing (both player, and guild) is a highly requested feature, and Anet has been commenting lightly that they plan on doing both and they were planning and looking at the best ways to implement them before the game even launched, and it was still on their agenda like 3 months ago so there’s a good chance we’ll be seeing it. I love how Wildstar is doing it.

Yeah. What is the point of making this thread? I mean… the title makes it seem like you’re using a tactic that childs are using against their parents to get what they want.

“But MOM, everyone else in class got an iPhone!! I want one too!”

Did you expect them to include everything other MMOs have/had at release? You can’t just copy/paste features from other MMOs when you release a new one.
They’re using different game-engines. You have to spend time and money to make said feature. A simple fact MANY people seem to forget (or ignore.)

Also, in my opinion. Prioritize other things Anet.

SWG is dead because the gameplay turned to crap and it simply ran its course as an MMO. Player housing in it, on the other hand, was orgasmic. You could decorate anything, make beautiful designs as you had full access to placing anything anywhere, you had very good control over the lighting, there was a very lenient allocation of items you could place, and it allowed for some brilliantly creative designs such as replicating a giant Millenium Falcon in your home or completely revamping how the house design looked by simply placing furniture in the right place with lots of practice.

If you were to go find the best of the player housing in SWG, I’m not pulling your leg if I were to tell you it should be considered the gold standard for MMO housing.

Feature Creep. It’s a thing.

But, I guess I’ll spell it out for you.

New games have less features than old games. As games age they add stuff. Guild Wars 2 is a new game. They are adding stuff in the order they feel is right for their game. Important stuff first, other stuff later.

Patience is awesome.

I’d forgotten how incredibly crappy the housing was in FFXI. Just a big bland rectangle with an unmovable NPC moogle in the middle, and a bunch of non-interactive furniture that your character didn’t possess any /emotes to interact with. Also, you still couldn’t invite a friend into your room when I quit (the catgirl in that guy’s video is a second NPC).

This game is six months out of beta. FFXI had housing at 6 months, but it was trash, and is still trash years later. Did any of those other games have it at this stage in their lifespans?

Housing is the least of this game´s problems is totally useless and doesn´t fit into the general theme of this game.

The only acceptable excuse for “housing” would be for ANet to flesh out the home instance an thus make good on their promise of us having an “oh so unique” personal story.

. . . I’m surprised nobody brought up Ultima Online and how housing made the landscape look like small cities with houses crammed anywhere they would possibly fit. And they still stunk due to the way the game worked (not always secure and sometimes a sign saying “come get me” if it was in a spot someone else wanted).

I really want both Guild Halls and Player Housing. I feel that both would give players an extra little cosmetic fun to flesh out the endgame, that GHs would promote guild loyalty and representation and that, if implimented correctly, could also add depth to the PvP scene.

Guild halls were a planned feature for GW2, and as far as I’ve heard they weren’t cut from the plans. It’ll happen eventually. You can be upset that it’s not already done if you want, but arguing that it should be in the game doesn’t serve much point considering the devs already know that

Player housing is a different situation – not all MMOs had it and it took different forms in the ones that did. If GW2 implemented it – and it’s not out of the question, GW1 made sizable changes in expansions too – it would have to be in a way that made sense for the game. The personal instance wouldn’t be a bad spot to put it, except well… norn. Yeah. I guess you could occupy a wing of the Great Hall and renovate it to your liking…

I played UO, and I enjoyed playing on UO, but . . .

There were plenty of nice flat places which became overrun with housing. (Verity Island, that white snowy island?) It made it impossible to see any kind of landscape let alone people hiding between houses due to the view. This led often to PKers hiding in there on mounts and rushing out to gank people who were close enough.

Then there were places between forests and mountains where you could stick a small house . . . and people did, nice little mining shacks. Which screamed out “hey, come get me, I’m making metal!” to the savvy . . . and if someone wanted that spot for their own house all they had to do was camp it and figure out who owned it, then kill them until they gave up.

Like I said, I played UO and I liked certain aspects of it. The housing was one which was a huge mixed bag. Convenient, and useful, but if you made an effort to get it to look nice there was a high chance of getting yourself harassed due to being a target. And if you happened to be good at everything but PvP?

. . . UO was not fun if you weren’t good at PvP.

Guild housing should be in the game. Except instead of guild housing, it should be a guild fort, with walls and towers and a Lord. And your wuvwuv opponents can come to your guild fort and start a FIGHT and then a big message comes over your screen saying YOUR FORT IS BEING INVADED DO YOU WANT TO FIGHT? And then your guild and the other guild gets an even team depending on how many people want to fight and depending on how many fortifications you put into your fort the other team gets that many points to spend on siege weapons and you FIGHT.

The only way I’d take player housing was if it was done in the same fashion as Asheron’s Call.

In-world housing, for players, the rich, guild mansions, etc.

Great gold sink when rent comes around too, and great place to have meetings/show off stuff.

And have instanced apartments for the masses, the same way Asheron’s Call does it. This way everyone can have a little place of their own.

As others mentioned before, housing appeared on most MMORPGs later in their developement process, even years later. There are far more important features needed into the game (and any MMORPG) than housing or guild halls. They are a welcome addition but doesn’t offer as much as other features and/or bug fixes – class balance.

No it doesn’t since we can’t modify it, decorate it, add to it, put furniture, hang trophies, plant trees.

Can’t do anything really.

Guild housing or halls are a waste, in my opinion only. Player housing would be awesome! The possibilities from the gem store alone are staggering. Why Anet isn’t loooking into that is beyond me.

I don’t think its a big deal beside the lot issues the game currently have. When i will able to to see more than 10 opponent in W3 at a time while 40 is sitting on my neck than they can start thinking of polishing 2ndlife things.

BUT A Guild Hall would be a nice addition with trade broker, crafting and bank access. Finally i could get rid of LA kitten lot loading while still having access to the main things.
