<snip> it’s not the game’s fault. It’s yours.

Not that you’ll listen or believe me, but I know how to tag mobs. After running the with zergs ad nausem I learned where to put my symbols. I learned how to fill my bags with junk. Which is the point you are missing.

What you are trying to say is that i’m bad at the game and that I am not getting any loot. That is not the case. I know I am getting credit for the mobs, my bags overfloweth with junk. If I wasn’t tagging them I’d get nothing.

So basically, regardless of what we say to you, your repsonse boils down to ‘it works for me so l2p noob’…

I’ve said my piece. Thrown in my 2 cents worth of anecdotal evidence. It’s clear now that was a bad idea. I’m done.

Thank you for posting your experience. The RNG situation in this game is interesting. As a relatively new player who has gotten exotic drops fairly regularly since hitting level 80, it is amazing to me that some players could go for months without getting one, or that 60 exotic drops in five months is supposed to be a lot…. I think I have been playing less than a month and I probably get an exotic drop per 2-3 hours of play if I am doing anything where I am killing champion type mobs.

In the current events, with magic find gear on (not max, but with like 150% magic find), I will usually get 5-8 rares and 50% of the time an exotic, per event. And that is not including rares from killing Scarlet if the event completes.

Reading all the (many, many) accounts of extremely “lucky” players who get things like precursor drops and exceptionally rare dyes on a regular basis (not me), I thought there must just be some players lying who are actually buying those rare items by converting $$ to gems to gold, but accounts of implausibly unlucky players truly point to a problem with the RNG programming in the game.

One thing I have noticed is that exotic and rare drops for me tend to clump up, as if there is a lucky time. (And yes, I know because of things like selective recall that there is a psychological tendency to see such a pattern even when it is not there, and I also know that in many gambling games that are being cheated by pro gamblers the suckers always say “oh, unlucky” and “what are the odds” and the pros who have the game rigged say the same thing and then laugh all the way to the bank (not comparing that to anet, just talking about statistics and luck and pattern recognition.)

I feel your pain OP. I have never once gotten an exotic weapon drop. Only one time have I gotten a good rare drop – still not a precursor. The few other rares I ended up with were junk that weren’t worth anything. I give up on drops and BL chests. Period. Total garbage. I play only because I want to at this point. No legendaries for me… no insta-gold drops. Just fun. When I stop having fun, I’m outta here.

I stopped having fun the moment they introduced the ridiculous champion farms. Have been playing other games since then, and tbh, I wish I had quit way earlier. The game became more and more of a chore and that’s not the way it’s supposed to be.

I get 2-3 exotics per week on average (bonus chest, champ chest, etc.). I’ll be honest, I play probably more than the casual and that amount of exotics is ridiculously low. If that is the case, the chances of ever seeing a precursor is near impossible.

I actually don’t mind the champ loot and farm. I rather have that than grind Cof 1 24/7 for months like many other people did in the past if I wanted a legendary or anything expensive in particular. Farming champs is really more of a choice than a chore imo. If you need to up your gold, then go for it. If not, then there are still so many other things for you to do.

Been playing since release, only gotten a few good drops, that is, exotics, at most 8, all worth less than 2 gold mind you, 3 of them were FoTM exotics which I couldnt sell of course.
As for precursor, I have given up on it, not an aqutic one dropped, not one. Thrown countless rares and exotics into the mystic toilet and pearl stuff is the only thing I ever get. Good luck my friend, because we definitely lack it.

edit I dont like to get into “conspiracies”, but my cousin who has less than 400 hours and plays every2 months already got a precursor, sold it for profits and has logged in 1 months, im expecting that once he logs in he gets another one. Maybe Anet rewards people who sta long time som good stuff so they feel an incentive to stay, and those who log every day or almost everyday get a DR since they are already “hooked” and dont need anything else…..I hope not and just that the RNG god just hates me…

I don’t think it’s the case. i had a hiatus of 2-3 months and when i came back i still had bad luck.

the gap between a high value item and crap is just too big. i was hoping anything will change for good with the loot revamp, but its seem to be even worse now. the day any enjoyable game releases im done here too. the hole loot situation is a flaw.

im not sure if there is still a bug. few month ago there had been a post about a loot bug. they denied it all the time. ppl were posting about broken rng a lot. only answer they got was “works like intended”. 3 month later they announced “we found a major bug with the loot table”

imo it didnt rly change anything for me. i rly like the game and it has great potential but the situation with boring zerg content, and rng punishment kills the fun for me. the day something similar releases im definitly gone. had a good time but im tired of this marketing strategie. take a monthly fee and develope real content. this pseudo content was good for some time but grinding achievements and doing dailys is not rly satisfying.

Don’t fret OP, for every person who gets 2 or more precursors in their lifetime, there are 1000 of us who can’t even get an exotic from the champion loot bags.

Wait exotics are supposed to drop from Champion loot bags? Not being sarcastic. I thought they just changed it so that champions dropped loot. If there is a chance for exotic, this is just another rng area where I will get screwed.

Off and on, playing since Headstart. Have had 3 exotic drops – one from the southsun event last year. None worth more than a few gold.

It’s just pseudo random.

You will never convince ANet or anyone else that your aren’t just unlucky.

I expect that sometime in the distant future ANet will uncover a bug with the loot table that causes some people to get multiple precursors and other people to get nothing.

That’s been my experience as well OP. Unfortunately they are unwilling to look at the problem.

I’m not sure if this is a PR stunt but it really REALLY looks like it. Two articles came out recently saying that players were complaining that gold was too easy to farm, so I decided to come here and check that out. It’s obvious these articles were PR stunts imo because it looks like the same problem that made me leave the game is still here! I call it the lopsided loot algorithm, where two people doing the same things will get the same type of loot over and over, 1 will get nothing, and one will get everything and it will happen each time the same. But you have some people on here (which I suspect are really working for Anet, or they are just blind) that continue to put forth the fail argument that this is how RNG works. It’s not and they know it. Then they compound the issue with DR.

Go to any other games forums right now, and you’ll not see a single post about this issue in those other mmo’s, not a single post.

This problem is unique to this game right now which further proves there’s something wrong that they aren’t taking care of in their bug department for whatever the reason is.

You’re forced to. As a all-round player I like to do everything in the game, being WvW, SPvP and PvE, but if you don’t follow the mass that is farming like crazy, you miss out on content because you need armour etc. Apart from that it isn’t possible not to farm cause the only content that doesn’t embrace grinding at this moment are jumping puzzles and exploration. And even that got rather grindy cause arenanet wants you to complete hearts all the time and achievements are through it all. Another problem is that it’s close to impossible to find non-grinders.

Edit, i would like to add that it seems like GW2 is a game all around money. If you don’t like to mind money, that’s tough for you, you have to farm because money means everything. It’s like a virtual world of capitalism. It sickens me.

You’re forced to.

What? You get full set of armor and weapon from dungeons, WvW, or karma. You buy accessories on the AH for less than 10g for a full set, or spend karma. You buy sigils and runes on the AH for less than 10g for a full set. All that gold is earned through natural gameplay. After that, what else is there? It’s all fluff and irrelevant stuff like skins or bag slots.

So the only person being forced to is you, by yourself and your need for massive amounts of unnecessary gold.

No I’m saying that if you actually look at the problem, even a small portion of the population getting nothing each and every time they login and do the exact same activities as anyone else in the game is unacceptable and is not randomness even in a mathematical sense.

No other game has this trouble right now because even in the games that are roughly five years old, they’ve looked at both their algorithms and their loot tables and found and fixed these problems.

Further in games that use a drop improvement code like magic find, you’ll find that not only does it dramatically improve what you get but it also doesn’t do what happens in this game which is suddenly make most items go white or grey or nothing at all, like the DR is intermingling with it. It’s also a fact that almost no one in the mmo industry uses DR anymore even for bots, so that adds to the problems when the game is calculating what you get.

So basically because they are using an unconventional system in their loot system, and because their magic find has yet to work properly it tends to cause more issues than it fixes and they’ve yet to adequately fix the problem that doesn’t exist in other titles.

I used to like this game but I think I am done also, at least for the foreseeable future, the RNG is to brutal in this game. Here I am 1 year later, 2400hrs played, 8 lvl80’s (one of each class), 7200 achievement points, Never seen a precursor drop, Never seen a one of those weapon skin tickets, I have been hording every mat required for my legendary and I am no where even close, not a single lodestone in my inventory, took me 334 attempts to get my mystic clovers! I have ran every dungeon x100, FOTM to level 30+, temple events daily,DE’s, WvW, all these living world events farmed till nausea, and still no where even close, its a miracle of a day if I see a rare, last exotic drop I have seen was roughly 3 months ago and it sold for a whopping 73 silver! I do have a fair amount of gold saved up but every time I get close the prices of precursors sky rocket. And to make matters worse everytime I jump into soloQ spvp 95% of my matches I am stuck at the crap end of a 5v4 so that option is out now also.

Its just not fun anymore playing the same stuff over and over again and not being able to progress your character(s) any further, I want the flashy skins for my efforts, but its impossible unless I just run with the zerg and farm every copper possible and sadly this game is not interesting enough to do so.

Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention to this thread, but since you called me out.

First, unless computers have suddenly developed a way to generate a truly random number or ANet implements loot drops by having people roll dice in an office 24 × 7, then it’s not incorrect to say the RNG isn’t really random it’s pseudo random.

Second, I said that there was probably a bug with the loot table, not with the psuedo random number generation.

So I don’t understand what you were trying to say.

I ll answer you by this: In my opinion AND based on my experience: I believe there is a real issue that cause drops affected. I noticed after playing many many hours and days in a row with few hours breaks inbetween never dropping ANYTHING valuable. BUT whenever I havent log for 2 or 3 days straight in game I ALWAYS dropped an exotic as soon as playing in the next few hours. SO There is a high probability that the system is occuring somehow an issue with loot table regarding time played. The Diminishing Returns system is affecting anyone depending on the overall time spent in game and I am 100% sure it affect the loot table whatever you can do. They couldn’t have manage to seperate the DR effect from the in game data time spent playing.
Btw the DR system has been created by Paragon Studio and implemented first time in another game few years ago, I can tell you that the game data time spent in game is affecting the DR system in GW2 but this issue has not been detected clearly by Anet so not adressed because they are somehow lacking in the knowledge of how the mathematic system has been built not being able probably to find out easily the issues occuring actually. Whenever they ll find out they won’t communicate about it, that would involve large complainings… but they will just try to fix it or balance it somehow (specially with higher tiers coming up in game)

Seriously… Is there some sort of account bug or am I just incredibly unlucky? I hear how people get 10 exotics if not more a week. Some players who’ve had their accounts for less than a month get a precursor sell it and make quick bank.

I go months without seeing a single exotic besides what I use!

I’ve only ONCE got an event claim ticket for a skin, and it was compete accident when I didn’t even like them.

My buddy quits and goes to WoW then comes back and gets two precursors two days in a row. I haven’t even gotten a fractal weapon!!!

Is there something wrong with my account, luck is clearly a factor but for this long never getting anything good wtf?

I’m half PvE Half PvP so I only got to R40 showing a clear significant time I spend in PvE and I’m lucky to get a 75ish exotic that sells for under a gold. Something has to be wrong.

You’re done?

Can I have your stuff?
