Raising Camera Height A Tad Would Do Wonders
Also invisible walls shouldn’t restrict the camera.
(I’m looking at you Marionette platforms >_>.)
All I have to say about all this and the camera issues is that I have every class and race covered. What I have noticed from them all is that playing on my Asura the camera seems zoomed out the most and maybe even far too far. Yet the bigger races like Charr and Norn it’s the exact opposite, the camera seems too far zoomed in. Surely it should but the other way around no!?
I understand this has nothing to do with you wanting the camera up at a slightly higher POV but I just thought I had to pop that in there for what it’s worth lol.
That would be really nice. I noticed that especially when I was doing map completion and just wanted to look at the awesome design on some maps (standing on mountains in timberline for example).
Also the zoom is kind of messed up on a few encounters, fighting the fire shaman in FOTM as the smallest asura is a pain since I can only see the feet of him making the dodging of one of his attacks pretty painful (the one where he flies into the air and puts the 3 smaller aoe on the ground)
A higher camera would get bumped down even more in caves.. would be a huge pain in a lot of JPs.

Solution, make it customizable
You can after all customize the X-axis position, so it shouldn’t be that much of a problem to give the same option for Y-axis.

This is the first I hear of it.. how do you do that?

I touched on this topic a few months back. It is important to see the ground for AOE based skills but for me the epicness of a fight is lacking when half of the boss/mob is obscured by its own name tag.
The First Person Mode introduced soon will definitely help but I cant see why a height adjuster couldnt be implemented.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!

Invisible walls shouldn’t exist at all. at the bare minimum it should be glass. That’s one thing I enjoyed when I started playing – that there were no invisible walls. After some time I found I wasn’t creative enough.
But even camera squished up against a real wall is bad. Though I have to point out that the result isn’t much different than first-person POV
OP, what race do you play? on my asura, the camera already seems too high. if I zoom in all the way I can’t even see her face, only the top of her head.
of course, the best option is to have an option ‘camera height’ that we can slide to whatever suites are desires.
Honestly, I get more annoyed when fighting a boss and the damage number appears off the screen despite the entire boss appearing on my screen. I liked it better when that appeared right above the target location.

They are adding first-person POV? How does everyone know these sort of things?

This.
I frequently wish the camera was set lower, because as it is now, I can’t take any eye-height screenshots of my character sitting down.

I never heard they’re adding First Person??

I think the issue you may be facing with enemy mobs being covered by their name tag could be related to the size or quality of your screen.
Example I usually have no issues at all on my PC screen. However one day I decided to hook my pc up to my regular TV screen to see what the difference is. It’s my xbox/ps3 gaming tv which is a 32 inch. Anywho the best resolution I could get was NOT good. I got the exact same issues you seem to describe with mobs being covered by their name (it seems a lot lower on the screen than right at the top (like my PC screen is). Also I could only have the minimap at half the usual size (which now I know why in so many people’s vids and screenshots I see they have it at said size). Lastly and the worst of all the chat window was not right in my left hand corner as I am used to it but slightly above it which was totally horrid.
You may want to look into changing your screen if you are getting any of the issues here I described or if you are using unusual size/brand.
I’ll post 2 pics to explain what I mean, 1st my reg then second the TV, huge difference.
I’ve never played an asuran character but perhaps adjusting the camera height so that it sits relative to the characters head would be ideal. This would allow a small increase for most peoples upward view while allowing for lower camera angle on asura to improve screen shot ability / character view.
I don’t think Anet has made any confirmation that 1st-person view would be released. It’s currently only available on alpha servers afaik.
I would kill for FPS view, combined with proper WASD controls and mouselook, and the ability to “Use” whatever is on your cursor. That’s the way to play, not this horrid thirdperson and ultra clunky camera and targetting GW2 has.
Would make casting AOE target on ground spells a pain, though. But I don’t care. Gimme First Person View.
Well currently for me, the camera height is WAY too high on my max height female norn character. It takes 3 scrolls out to get a relatively decent coverage of my character, and the ludicrously high camera angle makes it look skewered and unnerving. I now cant have the ability to see my character up close and in a decent view to appreciate my meticulously wardrobe picked outfit within the environment. Breaks my heart
I wouldn’t mind as long as I could opt to keep my camera right where it is now, and once you choose camera position it locks there (unless re-adjusted in options) so it doesn’t slip while playing.
