Is this smart to take back something that players love only 19 days after putting it?
That seems like a collin johanson thing to do…

They actually have a good reason for the taking it back. By time-gating the event, they keep it exciting and fresh (even if it’s just the same few worlds), instead of letting it go stale.

The problem is when, after cycling it out, they forget to bring it back for two full years.

I’ve never played it but it can’t possible live up to the hype.

It’s adorable, and it’s fun, but yeah, it’s definitely overhyped. Think of a Guild Wars 2 version of Mario Bros where you can use your own character.

If I were left here all the time, it would have no hype at all. That’s probably why it’s implemented this way.

The logical extreme of the absence-makes-the-hype-grow-fonder argument is that they kept it out of the game for two years to achieve maximum hype

Still, the point stands:

  • Some new content is meant to be permanent, like the Toxic Alliance invading various mid-tier zones.
  • Some is meant to be seasonal, like festivals (including SAB, which admittedly, just has one thing to do, although it’s a very involved “one thing.”)
  • Some is meant to be a one-off: Living Story, Season 1 was designed that way and there have been major & minor events since then (beta token drops in Silverwastes, Mordrem invasion, WvW challenges, WvW seasons).

(Of course, ANet sometimes confuses which is which: creating seasonal content that they never bring back and so on, but that’s a different issue.)

tl;dr remains

  • SAB leaves on the 19th, because
  • It’s seasonal content, designed to delight us for a short period of time, disappear, and reappear later.

OMG SAB IS BACK!!!

I know what I’ll be doing for the next too weeks.

Pleased to see my progress in the achievements has been saved too. I was so burned out trying to keep up with temporary content and beat Liadri that I wasn’t playing much when World 2 was released, so I never got the title. Now I can finish it off.

Generally, they do, when it’s gated right (Such as annual holiday events).

“Can only do this once a day” sucks, especially for people with fluid life schedules. “Only available this time of day/this day of the week” is terrible for people on fixed schedules. But having something be freely available for a week or two or three every few months actually works well – especially if there’s a promise it will return at a regykar time. (I still wish the Festival of the Four Winds would return. I have a lot of Bazaar tokens, and Favor of the Bazaar. Unfortunately, the Zephyrites went and got themselves blown up )

Seriously people, give it a rest. You can play the way you want within the confines of the game. That’s plainly obvious. It’s like when something isn’t exactly the way you want it to be you think that they lied to you because they promised you a game that somehow allow you to do anything you want, any time you want.

How come I can’t play this game on my 3DS? I was told I can play the way I want!

Well, given the line of:

As a yearly festival, SAB will now be a dependable fixture in Tyria, and that makes us very happy. Just check out Rata Sum to see how happy we feel!

I think they’re making sure they can keep at least what we have now running when this time comes around next year.

Leaving it in the game would be more beneficial at this stage after so long away.

Anet will give us plenty of surprises in content I am sure, but leaving SAB in and only updating it once a year or every 2 years, would be far better for community morale.

Mo said he wants to entertain us, keeping it permanent would fall under that banner imo

If it was in the game permanently, it wouldn’t be new/different content for long. After a couple of months people would be bored again because they’d run SAB enough times that they’re tired of it. I’m not saying it SHOULDN’T be in the game permanently; I’m just saying its permanent presence wouldn’t really be all that helpful.

Because then players will play it till they’re ghost white and get all the skins and never return to it, other than new achievements. Unless they take out selling the skins and just have them as random drops, like fractals.

Probably would be best if they left it as a limited time april fools holiday event every year.

SAB shouldn’t be temporary. By design it’s a pick up and play kind of feature, that you don’t want to burn out on in short heavy doses. Having it available year round gives the main game extra depth and content, and allows for people to play SAB at their own pace.

Calling it a “festival” doesn’t make sense. It isn’t a festival.

Calling it a “festival” doesn’t make sense. It isn’t a festival.

Sure it is. Not all festivals need to be tied to holidays, and festivals can be small, local things.

Omaha, Nebraska has two small festivals that come to mind. “Shakespeare on the Green” and “Jazz on the Green”, both of which happen during the summer. They’re not some big thing celebrated around the country, but it’s a small festival with a theme. Or how about a Renaissance Fair/Festival? Basically, there’s something going on, and people make a party out of it. If it was going on all the time, though, people would get bored with it and stop paying attention to it.

Now, I’ll admit it sucks to not have enough time to play something, and have it go away before you can really get into it. But nothing is perfect, and if they kept it open all the time then there would be nothing to excite us next year at this time.

Yes, but all the things you listed are festivals. SAB isn’t like any of them. It doesn’t make sense to call it a festival either according to the dictionary or the lore.

The game is crying out for permanent content and things to do. SAB is an obvious addition.

Because people would get bored of it and not care whereas releasing it now is finally giving people something different to do. By the sounds of it, SAB will be a yearly event now. It’s too bad that they didn’t keep up with that original plan of reoccurring events from the start, as we could have had a different event every other month all along.
