It only shows that your statement appeal to a certain group of people, and it in no way shows that your statement appeals to everyone.

That’s the point.

Just as there are those that are 100% happy with the direction that ANet has gone with their development of GW2, there are others who feel like they’re not delivering on meaningful content.

I’ve never met anyone 100% happy with the direction Anet was gone. I just think that some people paint far too bleak a picture.

Doesn’t mean they are delivering no content at all.

I don’t think anyone is arguing that; obviously they have made changes to the game.

The problem lies in the fact that the changes they have implemented haven’t done very much to add depth and variety to gameplay, and as a direct result, the game in general has grown stagnant.

Sure, they added the Skyhammer map. If you actively played solo queue in sPvP, you’d realize that it’s one of the most abused and thus hated maps out there.

Sure, they have balance updates… but only every five months or so. Just think on that for a minute; a new build emerges, the sPvP community realizes how broken it is, and then you have to live with it for the next five months. It’s just boring, repetitive, and simply annoying.

Sure, they added EotM (which is gorgeous by the way). However, their good intent fell a little flat with the WvW community and now it’s nothing more than a glorified PvE karma train map. They suggested that the new map would lead to further changes with the overall game-mode, but those changes have yet to come to fruition (or even be revealed, for that matter).

Sure, we have WvW tournaments every four to five months. The problem with this though is that the meta is essentially the exact same as it was upon release and that meaningful changes to the overall WvW experience are few and far between.

The whole point is that this game has grown stale for myself and the group of people that I actively played with due to the lack of content releases that would breathe new life into the game. I get that a lot of people are floored by the biweekly PvE Living Story and Gem Store updates, but that’s simply not going to do it for me.

I’m glad you brought this up. There seems to be a bug on the forum, I’m seeing my +1s going to comments I’ve never even read before and have to un-submit them.

I’ve noticed that as well. I’m not sure if it’s a visual bug or if it’s actually registering as an upvote.

Not to sound rude, but you can always find more people to join your guild. Guild Trek is fairly easy to do with every just a handful of people, so if you’ve got that far then you can continue to improve, albeit maybe at a slower pace.

thanks for your help on this elsdragon maybe the patch will help improving us. love what i am reading about the september patch 2014 keep me informed anet!

Most of the items you listed off that aren’t in this update are because they are content. This is not a content update, this is a feature pack. Content updates usually, but not exclusively, take the forum of living world updates or festivals.

And the items you listed in feature pack aren’t feature…. are fix or improvement to old feature and you know that… but hey gemstore is always open…
In a far far island there are kurt cobain , jimy endrix , scavenger precursor , ladder&league and new type of pvp , guild housing ecc….

As far as the tournament being a joke, or a distraction? Again that is personal opinion, and, as you yourself said, an extreamly biased one at that.

It’s the common opinion amongst serious WvW players; if you actively played in WvW every week or at least visited the WvW sub-forum from time to time, at least that much would become clear to you.

You only perceive my thoughts as biased because you don’t agree with them.

I do not see your thoughts as biased because I disagree with them. I call them biased because of whatever filter/point of view you are coming from, while may have its merits, is one that the game is failing, that people are leaving, that people don’t like what Anet is doing, and everything they work on and release is done to placate an angry mob, and so on and so forth.

You are/were expecting more from this game then it intended to offer, and by all rights, are disappointed and disenchanted with it. But I have a feeling that even if Anet were to cater to your, and everyone elses, thoughts on what should be released, and more content, you (speaking generally, not you specifically) would still not be happy with it because “they should have come out with X profession instead of Y!” Why did we get this map, instead of that one?". These same type of people will never be happy with anything that gets released, because thats just how they are. They have a romantic idea of how it should be, and when it can’t or won’t meet that perfect image in their minds, they will always feel disappointed and unhappy.

You mean a commander tag that’s account bound and in colors isn’t a feature? Tricks aren’t a feature? A new specialization in WvW isn’t a feature. Because those look like features to me.

Of course Tournaments are also features.

What they aren’t really is content. That’s good since this is a feature patch.

…I honestly don’t know what to say.

A “pair” will turn into five, and that five will turn into twenty. Like information, this is how misinformation spreads.

I think there’s a disconnect between what content we get, and what content players feel they should be getting. If you’re asking the question “has there been content?” then the answer is, of course, yes.

If you’re asking “does the scope of the content we’ve received match what we received in GW1?” then the answer is very far from yes.

Oh, really? Didn’t knew that. Well, then let’s see what we free updates got for our full box price in GW1 when compared to GW2:

GW1 Prophecies:

  • Sorrow’s Furnace
  • Tomb of the Primeval Kings revamp
  • Helloween quests
  • Wintersday quests
  • constant balancing updates

GW2 (blatantly copied from the wiki):

  • Mad King’s Labyrinth zone,
  • Reaper’s Rumble and Lunatic Inquisition activities,
  • Mad King’s Clock Tower jumping puzzle
  • Ascent to Madness dungeon

  • Modus Sceleris events, Skritt Burglar events, and dozens more
  • Tribulation Caverns, Hexfoundry Unhinged, Hidden Garden and Coddler’s Cove jumping puzzles
  • Forsaken Halls and Vexa’s Lab mini-dungeons and many new exploration achievements
  • Southsun Cove map, including many new events and Under New Management and Skipping Stones jumping puzzles
  • Fractals of the Mists dungeon consisting of several fractals, explorable chunks of reality from the Mists based on past events in Tyria’s history
  • Temple of the Silent Storm map in structured PvP
  • Wintersday event, featuring Snowball Mayhem, Bell Choir Ensemble and Toypocalypse activities, Winter Wonderland jumping puzzle and Tixx’s Infinirarium dungeon
  • Breakout events in WvW

Yeah, now I see what you mean.

Serious question: Is there really someone here who bought the game back in Summer 2012 and honestly assumed that we would receive that amount of constant updates and support for the price of a single boxed copy?

If a pair of vocal posters are enough to shut down an entire customer communication initiative, then…

…I honestly don’t know what to say.

Well the problem here is: This pair of vocal posters is loud enough to be heared everywhere. And I have seen some crapstorms here and they were insane. The SAB2 storm was insane enough to make its creator feeld bad about SAB. Teq was one giant crapstorm, AFTER ONE ENCOUNTER. Devs only need to stumble a bit in their posts or interviews to initiate a crapstorm.

The amount of rage and hostility is bad enough that other places call this forum a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Well this isn’t true but the playerbase in this forum has a really bad reputation, bad enough for others to say such things. But we can also do better like being more constructive and critisize without rage.

The fact is. You only need a small minority to destroy things that we love. It happened in the past with other games and other stuff. This minority only has to be loud enough to do such harm.

More LS I’m sure – but it won’t open any new maps or dungeons, or anything else people want.

and for the change to commander , in an old CDI:

I’m going to close this thread as I think this topic has come to and end, I wanted to thank everyone involved it’s been a great thread here is a summary of the discussions, this is a list of the main topics that where discussed and not a list of upcoming features. As with all CDI threads will bring the info gained from these threads into our discussion internally.

Commander Visibility

More options for the Color/Shape of the tag itself. This could be tied to functionality or rank of commanders but mainly targeted around organization.
Removal of buff display to enemies. As well as we should avoid doing skills/abilities that highlight the commander to enemies.
Ability to limit visibility to a sub group, party, guild, ect..
Tag sizing. (I debate this a bit as when you auto size the tag you can often lose the ability to see how far away something is but it was brought up a lot so listing it here)
Add squads to LFG system.

Commander Tools

More detailed supply info that’s always up. (Increased radius)
Ability to create sub roles within a squad.
Current squad tools are rarely used.
Seems to be some debates on buffs to followers, but there is a lot of good examples of ways to do that.
Squad size needs to be increased.
Ability to group up parties or other commanders to form different squad organization.
Improved chat suppression for commanders
Commander announcements (yellow text across the screen)
Open/Closing Squad tools

Commander gating

Current 100g gate isn’t the cleanest gate. (Whole goal behind a gate is to limit the number of commanders out there.
Gating using WvW abilities seems to have some debate to it, but seems like something we should avoid.
Account bound commander tags vs character bound.

The next CDI thread will be run by Chris Whiteside starting on Wed 12/11 the topic will be Progression.

Once again Thank you these threads are a joy to read and cause many great conversations and discussion here in the office.

of all those things we will see only some color for commander tag….

I’m sorry did Anet advertise expansion level content 2 years ago? I was playing 2 years ago…like the day the game launched in headstart and I don’t remember seeing expansion level content advertised at launch.

You must have a bad memory then.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/09/18/guild-wars-2-to-get-consistent-free-updates-expansion/

I don’t quite see how that translate into a promise for “expansion level content”.

Colin Johanson – September 2012

“No need to buy them, Gw2 will feature consistent free content updates and in-game events going forward. Our goal is to make it so you get more from Gw2 for free than you get from a game you pay a subscription for. On top of a large amount of free bonus content, we will be expanding on offerings in the Black Lion Trading Company going forward, as well as be doing large-scale expansion content down the road.”

“We do appreciate that you’d like to buy lots of new content, but we’d prefer to give a lot of it to you for free, cause that’s what we think a responsible MMO company does!”

Okay. I think you’re mistaken then, or deluded. Whichever. What he says is that instead of leaving the original GW2 as is and then creating multiple expansions that you’d have to buy, they’ll keep adding stuff to the GW2 that you’ve already bought. Large-scale expansion content down the road from what I understood then and now is continuously adding more content (which they have). Sure they may not be much on their own, but together they could make up a whole expansion.

What you’re asking for by saying “expansion level content” is a huge batch of new content all at once. To quote another forumer here:

The solution is to create more content.

New maps.
New dungeons.
New class.
New weapons.
New skills.
New playable race.

Maybe some new DE’s.

That seems very selfish and inconsiderate to ask of them on top of the constant added features and content they dish out, don’t you think?

i would have prefered to pay for expansions if it had gw1 amount of content.
I would spend more in the gem store just to support anet if i liked the stuff coming out.

i dont feel the vitriol that some people feel, but honestly, while i do think the dev teams have been working hard, and spent some big time on some things, it hasnt been that effective at making the game feel deeper or more expansive. Die hard gw1 anet fans i know that were at pax multiple years at all the anet events, dont even plan to go to the booth this year.

I cant say everyone is unsatisfied, i dont think everyone is. But even some people who really liked this game barely log on. I dont think the content that has been released is the content people really wanted to see. They basically wanted new game modes, more skills, new full maps, new stories (which they have done a bit of) new explorations, refined systems, expansions of systems.

You just got to step back and really look, and what they have put out doesnt renew the game experience. Thats ultimately what every MMO has to do to survive, as much as Qol stuff is nice, it doesnt make the game feel new and exciting.

Where is the new and exciting game patch? you guys are gamers, you remember staying up all night for that new content to hit, and explore and find and get all these new things thats what ya got to recapture in order to keep a lot of people engaged

You’re assuming no one was/is excited about Drytop, no one is excited about the living story. I’m pretty sure Anet has metrics that show otherwise.

People say it’s an hour’s worth of content, but I think people are farming a lot of that content.

So you’ve got a lot of groups here.

There are farmers, who might be trying for a kite and might be hanging out in Drytop because you know, a lot of tier 6 mats there. You’ve got crafters, there are some people who love that and collect every recipe and there are new recipes. There are new weapon skins for skin collectors, in game, not through a black lion trading post. There are kites which some people like because they like toys or even modest speed boosts.

There are people who like gambling and farm keys to open chests. There are people who enjoy story and achievements like me, and so that takes some time. Not everyone gets that stuff the first try or goes to Dulfy for hints either.

You’ve got older adventure game players who actually search for hidden coins. It’s not one small group of people all in Drytop for the same reason.

Some people just like jumping and it provides a lot of that too.

its cool, but it doesnt renew the game in the sense i have gotten with the expansions of GW1, FFXI, etc. Not to say it doesnt appeal to some, but the people saying they loved the game on release, and even in year one, who now say the game feels the same arent lying, or just crazy people who want an insane amount of stuff. They are people who are used to a certain level of new content withing 1-2 years that expands the strong points of the game.

LS is good for the type of stuff you get in between expansions, but it doesnt compare, for many people to the experience you get when the big content release hits in other games.

  • Tomb of the Primeval Kings revamp
  • Helloween quests
  • Wintersday quests
  • constant balancing updates

GW2 (blatantly copied from the wiki):

  • Mad King’s Labyrinth zone,
  • Reaper’s Rumble and Lunatic Inquisition activities,
  • Mad King’s Clock Tower jumping puzzle
  • Ascent to Madness dungeon
    ….

Yeah, now I see what you mean.

Serious question: Is there really someone here who bought the game back in Summer 2012 and honestly assumed that we would receive that amount of constant updates and support for the price of a single boxed copy?

~MRA

i would have prefered to pay for expansions if it had gw1 amount of content.

You’re right you know. It doesn’t renew the game the way an expansion does. But then, when I got expansions for games, in 2-3 months I’m done with them and I just sort of dog paddle until the next one comes out.

So I might get 2 months (if that) if intensive game play, and then I sort of flag. This way I’m more vested every couple of weeks. I prefer this to an expansion but I’m greedy and I’d rather have both.

. . . yes, because it is so much better to be impolite and treat people like crap, dismiss others because they like what you don’t, and be terrible to other human beings. Just so you can score points on others.

I love the human race.

At least it’s one handy thread if we get a forum ignore feature. I don’t mind disagreement or debate, but I would love to filter the children out so the adults can have a conversation.

I mind forum ignore features, because it means someone can throw the “last word” in an argument, then throw on the ignore so they can forever have the “last word” and stop conversation cold. It also means a quick trip to “ignoreville” for me if I so much as wax sarcastic at someone using hyperbolic rhetoric to stir trouble.

It really is too bad that posters feel the need to claim to be speaking for “everyone, most people, the majority,” etc. The word is, “I,” or, “me,” potentially even, “my friends (or guild-mates) and I.”

I suppose that, “many players,” works because it seems likely that any given point of view will have others who share it. Really depends on one’s interpretation of, “many,” I guess.

And we all know what will happen if this level of toxicity remains. Hello Dev Silence.

If a pair of vocal posters are enough to shut down an entire customer communication initiative, then…

…I honestly don’t know what to say.

A “pair” will turn into five, and that five will turn into twenty. Like information, this is how misinformation spreads.

Very well put. I personally think its great for people to see this thread so they can see WHY its so hard for ANET to communicate with us. WOW is the only response I have for how this thread started. If “whitenights” are respectful people then I hope this thread makes more of them. I have my issues with the game but I voice my opinion in a RESPECTFUL way. I’m still waiting to see what else is announced over the next two weeks. Some changes announced so far are welcome (WvW Fall Tournament, account bound Commander tag, world-wide guild bonuses), while others don’t affect me.

Still, the potential for something as massive as the Wardrobe to come is still open.

A long list of selection bias

You do realize how many features you described are different parts of the same update and how many weren’t content updates but changes to the game itself? Megaservers and guesting are not content. A trait system rework is content, but the reworking of the attribute system in GW1 isn’t? A lot of your items are things that also should have been in the game on launch but were added after release, like guesting, so praise Anet for for doing what they should have done.

It’s nice that you can thoroughly pick out some temporary content and non-content to pad a list, but how many races, professions, skills, explorables, weapons, guild halls, and PvP modes has GW2 added compared to GW1? How much of your list is no longer playable? An exercise in selection bias is probably really refreshing, but it does little to prove the point that GW2 does not have the amount or type of content that made GW1 successful and engaging, and that players are asking for.

An exercise in nostalgia is also fun to do for a while, too. How many areas of Prophecies were practically deserted except for people working out Cartographer or farming specific things? Was there a compelling reason to, just for instance, go to Maguuma Stade? How about compelling reasons to crawl through Dragon’s Gullet, or to fight Rotscale? Witman’s Folly?

How many different combinations of the skills which existed were “not viable”? Was there a very good reason, mechanically, to go R/W instead of W/R? Was R/N ever really good for anything other than “Touch Ranger” builds?

What was the vast benefit a Guild Hall would give, over just hopping to Kamadan? Were there services which were available to a guild with a hall which couldn’t be available to the members in the hub towns, and had significant impact to make the acquisition of a Hall worthwhile?

How much more grind was there to GW1 if you didn’t have the money to get yourself a shiny R9, inscribable, super awesome weapon like a Chaos Axe or Eternal Sword? (The inscribable part is the tough bit.) Does anyone here really remember the massive and utterly wasteful journey to hitting the maximum rank of “Lucky”? How about the “Gamer” title track?

Also, GW1 only had one race playable by players.

Try to be positive here:
I understand that the mega server fix, guild tags are old feature requests, but they’ve done them none the less and the game is improving. New players that didn’t play the guild missions will enjoy them more now, that is certain.

They also realized we didn’t like to be kept in the dark for a full year, there is some glimpse of hope that they might change part of their policy for the new discussion threads.

I think they know about the disappointment of the older players (those who played for 2 years) in the lack of new repayable content, there is like 10 new forum threads on that topic every day. With a company that size they must have something on the horizon, the longer it takes to develop probably indicates how the big it will be.

Personally I really want new outstanding WvW content or a GvG game mode, but I can play something else in the meanwhile. They can chose to release new stuff if they want, it’s their game, and we can choose to play this or something else.

This feature patch may seem underwhelming so far in comparison to releases like SAB or EOTM, but again on a positive note, the game is still improving.

You would think with so few skills in GW2 that a greater proportion of them would see use, but for any given class only about half of them get played.

I’m just going to pretend paragraph three doesn’t exist, since you’re pretending GvG doesn’t exist.

Inscribable q9 weapons were available for pennies from any weaponsmith. Some weapons in GW1 actually had value, where GW2 puts everything in the gemshop, or has legendaries which are everywhere, and which receive constant clamor to be easier to get than they already are.

Temporary content is still content. In most MMOs, a dungeon or raid only lasts until the new ones come out. The world and the dungeons become ghost towns. Temporary content just took it away before that happened.

If the content was bad, why do you want it back? Maybe some of it was good.

It’s like saying I didn’t see a broadway show because it’s no longer there.

Even better, they could artificially extend the life of the content by introducing a gear treadmill per content update. Instead of adding new zones they would add one new raid dungeon per update and it would take the vast majority of players (in raiding guilds of course) months to complete. The raid dungeon doesn’t have to be long, it just needs bosses that will wipe you over and over until you farm enough gear to take them on.

No areas in GW1 were deserted until after EotN came out. Many areas were home to unique drops, elite skills, and needed to be cleared for Vanquisher or Cartographer.

Nice try.

There were no Elite Skills until after you hit the Crystal Desert. There were no unique drops in Prophecies until much later, and even then it was limited to “The Falls” and certain enemies elsewhere.

And again, except for Vanquisher or Cartographer, what was there to do in any of the areas which didn’t have Elite Skills? You didn’t answer that. Dragon’s Gullet. Ascalon Foothills. Iron Horse Mines. Aside from a few things (quests, or Nicholas) which take you to these places, what would you want to go there for at all?

How many skills exist in GW2 which are not viable? A ton of them are just garbage. Most skills in GW1 saw at least niche use.

I don’t recall “Expert’s Dexterity” having much usefulness to it, compared to other elites. How about “Rampage as One” vs “Never Rampage Alone”? Seriously, that’s just recalling two which I recall were deemed “junk Elites”. GW1 had more than a few which just weren’t worth the Elite slot in comparison to others. (Like “Burning Arrow”, for instance.)

I’m just going to pretend paragraph three doesn’t exist, since you’re pretending GvG doesn’t exist.

Well, for me it didn’t. Neither did Alliance Battles, come to think of it. But you can pretend it doesn’t exist and not answer the question. That’s called ceding the point by default.

Inscribable q9 weapons were available for pennies from any weaponsmith.

Tell me where I can find a Runic Blade, Q9, Inscribable on a weaponsmith. Or Chaos Axe, or Eternal Sword, Storm Bow, Guardian of the Hunt . . . you know, the ones people actually seemed to regard most of all as a prestige item worth paying for?

Some weapons in GW1 actually had value, where GW2 puts everything in the gemshop, or has legendaries which are everywhere, and which receive constant clamor to be easier to get than they already are.

I am waiting to see I can go on the Gemshop and buy my Lepidoptera . . .

You can keep trying if you like.

If you like. Guild Wars 1 had exactly as much wasted parts, terribly cliche story, and unrealistic grind as this game, and it’s tiring to keep hearing how it was so awesome and this game sucks only because this is the one with the 2 in the name. If Vayne has his problem with the word “promise” then I have problems with nostalgia whitewashing over all the cracks which existed in Guild Wars 1’s design.

If we have to be honest about the faults of GW2, we should at least be honest about the predecessor . . .

And lets not forget GW1 was not open world its COMPLETELY different. When you have basically a full MMO of PURE instances rather then an OPEN WORLD it gets a bit easier to push out content. Only part go GW2 with more then 5 player at one time was the world hubs.

It also becomes much easier to enact small changes to zones and evolve their residents. Such as the evolution of Kryta through the civil war era, the closest thing GW1 had to the Living World. Or the total revision through Canthan areas after Winds of Change quests would clear out the Afflicted.

90% of what you listed is either “features/gameplay adjustments” or temporary content…

Hate to burst your bubble there…

No, no it’ is not, it’s currently unavailable content. They’ve already stated that the S1 content will be retconed to be available for replay in the story journal, open world, and other means just like the S2 content.

Temporary content was (not is) content. If it is no longer contained within the container (the game of GW2 in this case) then it is no longer part of the contents of GW2.

Holiday events in GW1 were they still content? They both came and left.

While they were available, yes.

I haven’t seen anything to indicate that content removed from GW2 will be coming back.

Is the old TA dungeon path currently content in GW2 ?

True can’t disagree with that. But we ARE getting content.

Then that’s your own fault because they announced it in a livestream, on the announcement and release page, on the forums, as well as on facebook, twitter, and even on the laughably unused google plus that all season one content will eventually be available through missions, open world, instances, and the story journal just like the season 2 content. I can’t even think of any more places where they could have announced it. Do you expect ANet to inform you by personal courier of their every decision? Bloody pay attention.

2 years is a long time for an MMO not to release anything.

I think you are mistaken. We have released content and features in the last two years on a fairly regular basis. Just because the content and/or features were things that you personally did not particularly care for doesn’t mean we didn’t release anything.

Please don’t trivialize the efforts of our design and development staff down to “nothing” because you didn’t like it. It’s fine to comment that you didn’t care for what was released, but don’t pretend like we’ve done nothing here for the past two years.

Looks at WvW

Looks at sPvP

Looks at precursor crafting

Looks at official GvG game-mode

Looks at guild capes and guild halls

Looks at new zones and dungeons

Looks at new weapon, utility, and elite skills

Looks at slow and almost non-existent balance updates

Ok Mark.

Start playing the game. You missed a lot of things.

It is true that GW2 needs content as elites zones, but come to the forum to write that nothing has been done in any of the aspects of the game in two years, is simply a lie.

I guess players are lacking some aspects of the traditional mmo, becouse gw2 abuses the theme-park model, its like playing mmo i just bough on on my android tablet with better graphics, same mechanics, get money to grab gems and trade for skins, imo this is the gw2 problem.
LS is not bringing a evolution to the GuildWars series, no new mechanics that can be adopted in game or be adopted in WvW, nor something new to improve your character (not talking about gear), but rather have something as new skills, racial siege and defense content based on new guild tech trees where guilds could start applying, real meaning of a guild and working to improve that guild, because having a guild just to make a puzle or kill a mob with large HP pool, this content is to weak.

2years on testing content and minor bug fixing is great, Anet is doing a good job here, they solved a huge culling problem on WvW, but after that the task gets harder because game is no longer new and improvement features must be released, even if means to change some concepts.

1st April joke, when gw2 receives a “balance” update.

The old TA dungeon path was announced as returning in all of these locations ?

I was aware that Anet had stated, “We do hope to add Season 1 to the Journal in the future.” But do you have a link to where its been stated that Season one will definitely (ideally with a time table since Anet has stated that only things on the verge of release will be confirmed) be added to the Journal ? I would love to read it. I do not go outside of the official forums/website for my GW2 information and thought that I was up to date regarding confirmed content/feature releases.

I must admit to being curious as to how they will add zone wide events such as the invasions back into the game without interfering with season 2, 3, etc LS or the existing open world content. I suppose that they could have two versions of the affected zones, one for the invasions the other without. Putting events of that scope in an instance, unless the instance was a full zone, would not really capture the essence of what made the original event in my opinion. I am very interested in seeing how this turns out.

And for what its worth I never claimed that I expected anything of the sort from Anet. I am not complaining about content, temporary or otherwise, merely pointing out that something that is not contained within a container is not the content of that container.

Temporary content is not content, it is temporary content. I guess I’ll go play SAB or Mad Kings Lair…OH WAIT I can’t because it’s not there, if it was content I could play it. A broadway show is entertainment and cannot last forever due to budgets and other issues. Content in games though are things to do and temporary content are things to do that last a short period of time. Unlike your broadway show, once things are created in a game they are always there and require no extra money to continue to be in game.

You mention new raids and dungeons, but have you played other MMO’s before? In most MMO’s when new dungeons/raids are released they become a rung in a ladder that you need to climb to get to the next raid/dungeon. Even in vanilla WoW when Naxx was released people were still doing the dungeons that were in at release. If we are going to use ghost towns as the reason for temporary content then we need to apply it to tons of things in game. Any WvW map with outnumbered? GONE. Any zones that are ghost towns? GONE! Dynamic event’s that don’t get done? Gone! What’s our threshold for “ghosttown” here? Because set it low enough of the overall popular and we have Dungeons? Gone! Fractals? Gone! SPvP? Gone! Sounds like a nice plan that will keep the game healthy!

Seasonal stuff is fine but when 3/4 of your developed content is temporary the game ends up with very little to do. GW2 wasn’t in a great state content wise when it launched and the temporary content has not helped that at all. There is still very little to do once reaching 80 and that’s the problem. This feature patch so far has added nothing that will add depth to the content we already have.

Temporary content is…..wait for it…. content.

They keyword you’re ignoring is in fact “content.” If it wasn’t content it wouldn’t be called “content.” Temporary or otherwise. Temporary simply describes the type of content it is. Ie – limited time. We also have recurring content. It’s still content, it just only returns during set periods – like Halloween or Wintersday. Then you have permanent content which is “always on” so to speak.

It’s all content. Stop saying it isn’t, just because it’s not your preferred type of content.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

That’s a real constructive comment you have there.

Comparing GW2 to other MMO’s doesn’t seem fair. When you say other MMO’s new dungeons and raids become another step towards the next dungeon or raid, you’re assuming that there’s a progression of gear and/or level to be had. GW2 doesn’t have that; they won’t (at least to my knowledge) increase the level cap nor do they release better and better armor (yes, I know about Ascended, but that’s not much of an increase and aside from high scale FotM or min/maxing, you don’t really need them).

As for the ghost town bit, you’re taking it to the extreme, which I assume is your way to show the severity of it, but that doesn’t really help. In fact, I for one am more annoyed that you’re going to that extreme just to try to counter someone else’s point. What he means by that comment (I think) is that if they released new content constantly, then after a while the old content will be neglected. (I don’t know about you, but trying to find a group for a dungeon or FotM the day the new LS2 chapter is released is not a walk in the park).

As for your last paragraph, that’s all your opinion, not facts. I love GW2, and am constantly amazed by it and the team that manages it (though I am not one without complaints). I for one find a lot of things to do whenever I am in game, nor do I feel that the feature patches do not add depth to the game. If you feel that there is nothing for you to do in game when you hit level 80, then I must say I feel sorry for you.
