I won’t play charr or norns, because I do not like their running animation. They look like they are moving in slow motion.

I won’t play an elementalist because I don’t like those magic bracelets they get whenever they draw their weapons.

Seriously. The reasons are kind of dumb, but these are why I won’t play these in game.

I have a hard time playing anything Non Human or Norn. In other games I play strictly Humans/humanoids.

I can’t take tree fairy people and dog cat men things seriously. And I don’t trust Asurans for obvious reasons.

It seems petty, but I want to play a human in any game because I like being a human being. It has nothing to with a lack of imagination, but more to do with pride I think.

I also can’t play a Necromancer because Anet’s version of a Necromancer is the worst iteration I have seen. Look to DAoC, Rift, EQ1 and 2, ANYTHING for how to a design a necromancer. What is in this game is like a soft headed blood mage from Dragon Age.

I typically do not play anything human. The more non-human, the more likely I’ll play it (Why I have 3 charr’s, 2 sylvari, 1asura, 1 norn, & 1 human)
Only reason I do have or would play a human/norn is female. I look at a male human in the mirror everyday.

I can’t bring myself to play Norns.

Male norns look really ugly and have bad proportions. Their upper bodies seem to be larger than their lower body and their shoulders too broad.

Female norn are too big for me to consider ‘sexy’ and they sound extremely arrogant and annoying.

Also, I’m really sick of the typical “I drink beer all day and every day” mantra and the Norn embody this.

I can’t plat Asura or Charr. Asura are too short and too easy to get lost in the mix. Charr I just don’t like the running style and the way their claws stick out from their boots. They look to me like a real ugly cat got mixed with the hunchback of Notre Dame.

I like playing every profession and have one of each. Switching up makes the game more fun for me and less repetitive at times. Unfortunately my Engineer is just so slooooow. unlike many other professions they don’t have a fixed speed buff as in a signet or trait. Since I like to travel around maps on foot it makes things drag at times. Given the recent holo rush, good luck haha. I know there are temp boosts but you basically end up swapping kits non-stop which is a minor pain.

I’ve found all of my alts aside from 2 are female either human or Sylvari. I don’t do this for some kind of creepy role play. I just think they look better animation wise and in armor, especially medium armor which leaves a lot to be desired as it is. Given that I usually see more female characters than male I’m guessing I’m not alone on this.

I will never play a male Norn. They look hideous. I understand that they’re supposed to be big and badkitten, but they look grotesque to the point where it’s almost comical. Especially when they’re wielding oversized greatswords. And don’t even get me started on when they use the whirling attack on the GS. I know I sound harsh but every time I see a large heavy-armor wearing norn with a humungous greatsword run by me, it ruins my immersion a little. I can’t take them seriously.

Charr (males and females) are cool, EXCEPT when they’re running while wielding a one-handed weapon. Their gait is so awkward; I can’t help but think they’re about to fall flat onto their faces at any second. I really like them when they’re on all fours though.

I like playing my male sylvari, but I do agree he looks beyond idiotic when he’s running. The “stick-up-the-behind” thing is totally true.

Asura animations are perfect. No complaints.

And finally, human animations are great too. Though IMO you’d have to really try to make humans look bad in this game.

- I can’t play Charr because it was the first enemy I ever knew in GW. I love em now but I just can’t play one.
- I can’t play Asura because despite typically being funny little creatures are still rather ugly.
- I can’t play Elementalist because a lot of the skills seem like they’re in the wrong places and I don’t have “out of combat only” weapon swap.
- I can’t play Mesmer because using my profession’s shatter mechanic also means sacrificing effects of half my skills.
- I can’t play Ranger because there is only one melee single hand weapon (Sword) which allows me to use the off-hand skills I like but all of it’s skills set me on predetermined movement paths which makes me feel more like I’m clicking skills rather than fighting as I move.
- I can’t play Warrior because I get bored not doing anything special or fancy. Also the lack of viable weapons for content I like. (WvW is strictly Hammer+X/Warhorn)
- I can’t play Thief because there is no ranged bow option and the shortbow doesn’t feel like a weapon as much as it does extra utility skills. Wtb Longbow. I like longbows and I like weapons feeling like weapons. >.>
- I can’t play Guardian because it’s always Staff/Greatsword. You cannot deny or ignore the absolute great skills both those weapons have and I feel guilty using anything else.
- I can’t play Necromancer because it gets stale always using the exact same viable set-up and it gets boring only casting spells. Warhorn is great but I wish it had a Sword for melee AoE not just single target dagger, axe, scepter.
- I can’t play Engineer because their rifle skills are are shotgun like effects yet rifles are quite obviously “Rifles”. Pistols generally turn me off although they are good. Lastly because their mandatory backpack equip when using kits clash quite badly with any medium armor I actually like.

I dislike:
Humans, because of the way how they hold the great sword (both male and female).
Male humans, because the way they walk.
Asura, because too small.
Charr, because I cant see myself playing as an animal for some reason.

I am currently playing a male Norn (the shortest model, because they are too tall for my like) and I enjoy it. Also their cultural armor is awesome (the heavy one).
I can make a compromise and play as Sylvari (for example thief or ele).

For a profession – I prefer to stick to my main, which is guardian. I do not like to switch between alts, and prefer to dedicate my time to 1 profession. Altho I dont mind any profession in the game.

I absolutely would never play an azura. They are strange little creatures that look like they belong in a space game plus they’re rude, arrogant, and annoying. The only azuran I ever liked was Oola.

Norn are giants; so don’t care to play one.

Warning: incoming complaining

Love short races, but the camera height centered on the feet of my Asura have made them an absolute no-go in dungeons and fractals.

Minor detail.

The real reason I won’t play most of the races is that they come “pre-loaded” with pre-set personalities through the voice acting.

THAT is the thing that irritates me about this game (I figured it out a week or two ago Vayne. )

As a female playing female toons, I have some minor problems with looks; mostly, it’s the prebuilt personalities.

The Humans are polite and fairly bland, and the females run like linebackers – head down, butt out and incredibly clunky. All on toothpick legs.

The Charr (true to form), just are often bellicose (belligerent/if not downright rude). I love how they look (although I do have a problem with their running).

The Asura just NEVER SHUT UP. At first the comments were rather comical. After several at 80, I’m just annoyed. (And ANet still needs to put in a set of medium armor CLOSE-toed boots other than the only set that costs 12g.)

The Sylvari sound like very polite, little airhead school girls. Love their curiosity; the simpering “airheadedness” I can do without. And the goofy, girly run…. I’ve learned to keep my weapons out so they walk like normal human females.

Which leaves me:

Norn. Even though their torsos are stretched/deformed compared to the humans, Norn are incredibly graceful in their movements. I can tolerate their low key dry humor although at times I also find them rude. And they look like real women with meat on their bones… toned, healthy and solid.

My personality is multi-facted/complex, like most people. I find the characters in GW2, as evidenced by the voice acting, fairly simplistic/one-dimensional. Not unexpected I guess. It is an MMO.

The bottom line is: I am having a hard time identifying with my characters because of the pre-loaded personalities via sound.

I suppose I could turn the sound off. Or at least the character sound off. I’ve played multiple MMO’s with the sound off. Finally found a game where I enjoy the sound, and my characters do not feel like mine. I do not feel like I am playing characters that I created. I feel like I stepped into a premade character that I use. No feeling of “ownership”. It’s a nit. I’m complaining. I acknowledge that.

/complaining off

Despite all of the above, I do enjoy the game, and Norn characters as my mains. I’ve also learned that in small doses, the Asura/Sylvari/Human can also be enjoyable. Charrs, no matter how awesomely punk I make them look are just never gonna agree with me.

BG: 52 alts, 29 lvl 80’s. They all look good, so I am done with the game: Oct 2014

I’ve been playing since release and I’ve yet to pick one. I’m really unhappy to be honest. I think each profession has some great things but I can’t pick one simply because of well, silly things. To be honest, many should have been addressed by now but instead most of their crew is focused on (forgive my wording) completely pointless and stupid filler content that doesn’t do a thing to further my GW lore addiction. I mean seriously, if you’re going to invest a majority of your resources into new content instead of improving on your current product at least make it something I can get behind from a lore standpoint.

Norn female Mesmer. Love it all over the game, slow as kitten though.
Norn male Necro. Not a bad tanky/healer build, good for dungeon support.
Charr male Warrior. Almost never play it, but looks great.
Human female Ele. This is my level 80 cook. Looks great, never play it.
Asuran male Engi. Flea bitten pirate. Looks awful, plays awful. Do the daily with this character to get the level/skill points and use them to make Mystic Clovers.

Sylvari is the missing race. They are not interesting. To be honest they all sound like gay guys, even the females. You roll how you want, it’s no skin off my nose but Sylvari is not my style.

I don’t have a Ranger and probably wont. I didn’t like minions on my Necro and from what I hear the Ranger minions suck too.

I don’t have a thief and probably never will. I detest stealth classes and this is the worst I’ve seen in many years of gaming. Just say NO!

I haven’t tried Guardian yet and I would probably love it. Playable Kodan please.

Your mileage will probably vary.

To me there are NOT silly reasons, they’re meaningful reasons, but here goes:

  • Asura animations are too flamboyant, it gives me a headache. I expected asura to be more mature, not so childish. I don’t want childish animations. As if their target audience is 5 year olds :( (No offense to those who chose them, I really like asura except this one thing. Was looking forward to playing them, waited years!)
  • Male norns are way too fat, their shoulders are much wider than their legs are long — as far as I’m concerned, they’re ogres, not norn! (Nothing against fat people, but this is a fantasy game hero… they shouldn’t be 900 lbs obese. A few extra pounds, sure, but obese beyond obese? )
  • Sylvari girls always sound like they’re having sex.
  • Sylvari girls voice sound as if they’re pinching their nose while they speak.
  • Human girls always sound like they’re having sex.
  • Note how I said “girls”. Sylvari and human females look like little girls, NOT grown women. I’m not a child, and I don’t want to play one.
  • Human girls look too young, their face is caked with makeup, and look too weak to be fighting (too fragile)
  • Human female voices are too fake. “Look at me, I’m virgin mary, aren’t I so sweet and pure? I mean, besides this makeup and boobs hanging off my clothes?” And males… too pompous.
  • Human skill phrases are annoying, both female and male.
  • Don’t like male (human norn, human, sylvari) characters standing as if they have a broomstick up their kitten, and looking as if they’re carrying two heavy buckets of water. All male (human, norn, sylvari) poses are too “stiff”, sucking in their tummy, raising their chest, holding their breath, chin up, shoulders and legs tensed up as if they are startled.

Look how wide their legs are and how stiff the guy looks compared to a more natural female pose:
https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/78436/gw003.jpg
Look how wide their legs are even when wearing armor, and how stiff the guy looks:
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=111228062420692&l=edaed6249f

It’s like they’re doing JUMPING JACKS!!
No, really look at this video: http://www.livestrong.com/video/4594-do-jumping-jacks/
His legs are only that wide on step 2 of jumping jacks: arms up and open wide, legs open wide. But even though that guy is exercising, he still looks more relaxed than male characters ^^

  • I love, love, LOVE male sylvari voice, it’s so warm and sexy. Makes me want to stalk the voice actor. Ok, maybe just hug him. But come on Anet, fix that awful male posture!
  • Charr females nearly give me a heart attack when they speak (skill sounds) things like: “TOOOO VICTORYYYYYY!!!” “FOR THE IMPERATOR!!!” “MAIN. AND. KILL”
(I get startled by sudden loud sounds or being surprised, it makes my whole body numb (feel the numbness going from heart to arms/legs) then I have to lay down until the numbness goes away)
  • Female boobs swaying side too side (even with heavy armor!) are gross and too obviously made for teenage boys. It’s really obvious and forced even though you’re looking at your character’s back when you run.
  • I can’t understand anything male charr are saying, their voice is way too deep, I really can’t understand.
  • I can’t stand how charr tails clip through armor.
I really wanted to play Charr since before I bought GW2!
  • Don’t like male human armors for charr and asura, it’s just plain lazy of Anet, LAZY and ugly.
  • Won’t play elementalist until atunement swap cooldown is drastically reduced OR BETTER YET, eliminated. Otherwise it feels like “one attunement” like gw1.
I love elementalist so much, but this kills it.
  • Won’t play ranger until I can put pet away. I love collecting pets but I don’t always want their company.

Ugh. I see humans every day. Thus, humans, norn, and sylvari are boring.

Asura and charr are interesting. Especially asura.

I won’t play Asuran because they are beyond hideous , and they wobble when they run as if they’re going to tip over any sec..also they are quite the noisy bunch -.-

I never expect to lose. Even when I’m the Engineer , I still prepare a victory speech.

Sylvari… Looked and sounded great in ideal before I started playing the game…

Then I heard the phrase “This rose has thorns – Here they are!”
………………………..

Did some fat woman with self-esteem issues somehow make it to becoming a developer and design this race? I hate to troll like that, but skritt… I can’t help it when I see the Sylvari female run, or hear them talk…

I have a big hangup on “conventional” spellcasters like elementalists. To me, the idea of clobbering people with fire or frost is the magical equivalent of a barbarian slugging someone with a warhammer.

No finesse or skill whatsoever, just “hit stuff til it stops twitching”… I’ll take my fiddly mind magic thank-you-very-much

I won’t play norn because they are just too big I can hardly see around my Charr. Jumping puzzles are hard enough.

I refuse to play warrior they have a dime a dozen warriors in the game already I prefer underdogs.

Ranger is afk boring I am in the middle of getting ready to delete my level 50 ranger.

Mesmer and Necro spells are just way too loud, and mesmer is entirely too complex a system for me to use i feel like it’s as crazy as switching between three kits and a regular weapon on the engineer.

I wont play humans, because the human male feet are the same size as human female feet. It looks ridiculously small if you choose the max height with the most muscular build for males. I didnt notice it till I was level 35 on my guardian, and was running up a hill and it zoomed in on my feet. I deleted immediately and made a norn.

Wait until you see female sylvari. Her feet are so tiny and twisted, it looks like chinese foot binding @ _ @

Lots of shoes I try on look so… distorted because of her feet.

  • Male norns are way too fat, their shoulders are much wider than their legs are long — as far as I’m concerned, they’re ogres, not norn! (Nothing against fat people, but this is a fantasy game hero… they shouldn’t be 900 lbs obese. A few extra pounds, sure, but obese beyond obese? )

Norns are anything but obese.

I don’t play Charr because of game mechanics, jump puzzles etc are a nightmare. they are also the bad guys (I don’t care how GW2 likes to dress them up and smell like flowers, many years hating these things in GW1 wont be changed)

I don’t play Sylvari because of their sickening goodness and trahearnes there at level 10!! (also they are kinda ugly as sin)

Personally love Asuras the best, they are small, cute, funny, smart and loads of fun to use..

I have tried playing both classes i just ended up deleting them even my level 80 Charr..

I have at least one of every race but Charr. I still hate them, both from GW1 and their equally war-mongering descendants.
