I just wanted to say thank you ANet for this nifty little reward! This is great for people who have an over-abundance of empyreal fragments, and I look forward to future items with similar functions! This is definitely my favorite gift from this wintersday season and it’s something I can use on a regular basis, so thanks again and happy holidays!

On a related note to make this more than just a thank you thread, how are people enjoying the rewards from this item? I’m curious to see how the rewards compare with those from Mawdrey II.

Golden shackles are still golden.

Haven’t got it yet, but I’m ecstatic that I finally have something to dump all my excess Empyreal into. I’m still a ways before Dragonite becomes a problem, but if the trend is anything to go by, we should see one in the future too.

One day behind myself. Can’t wait to use it. Have a boatload of shards just waiting to be exchanged.

Haven’t got Mawdrey II and never will. Yeah, I hate crafting that much.

Gone to Reddit.

The reward gifts seem similar to Mawdreys, as far as I can tell.

I totally need the Dragonite one. I have way more Dragonite than I do Empyreals.

Yeah, but this kinda means we’ll also get a Dragonite one, soon-ish.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

The wiki post mentions that you only get a Masterwork item and only random ingredients (meaning only cooking stuff), while Mawdrey has a chance to give you rares (got a few myself) and I hear even exotics, while also dropping mats of all sorts, not just for one profession. If this proves to be true, then this is inferior to Mawdrey. However, it’s only been out a day so the loot table maybe is not quite clear yet? I sure hope it’s the same as Mawdrey…

Nevertheless, kudos to ANet for giving us this, perhaps now I won’t hit the 200 stacks high water mark for Empyreal Fragments…

To be fair it is also much easier to get than Mawdrey.

The first day people could get Mawdrey, people thought it was all masterwork and junk anyway. The bags from Star seem to share the same loot table.

I’m still working on Mawdrey, not enough wood chopping to finish it yet. I do have plenty of Bloodstone to feed it.
The Star is a different story. I don’t have enough Empyreal to feed it but it will still look nice.

If they do indeed make a variant for dragonite in the future, I wonder if they’d also introduce another item that consumes bloodstone dust like Mawdrey II but is easier to obtain like the Star of Gratitude.

Just a question, does this mean that new players would not be able to get the Star of Gratitude once Wintersday ends? At least with Mawdrey you can get all the components even without doing the storyline.

New/old players alike get the star for completing a Wintersday daily quest chain (Feeding the Grawl in your home instance Seimur’s Bloodstone food) , and then completing a collection.

The event chain will most likely not be available after Wintersday….
and
The items required to complete the collection may also no longer be available after Wintersday ends.

The only thing new players may be unable to do is open an orrian chest to complete the collection….

I do not know of any orrian chests available to low-level characters….. but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any.

And I thought the 3 week time gate for Mawdrey was bad. ONE year time gate if you miss Wintersday? XD

The star only takes, at most, a stack a day. (its anywhere from [3 to 5] x [50 empyreal fragments] )

I’m sure you will still be earning fragments faster than you can convert them into gifts.

Hear hear. I’m waiting for this.

Talking to other players, it seems like there are those with too much Empyreals and others with too much Dragonite. I’m in the second bunch, since I can’t stand any of the options for getting Empyreals, I’ve always had far less of them than Dragonite.

If they do indeed make a variant for dragonite in the future, I wonder if they’d also introduce another item that consumes bloodstone dust like Mawdrey II but is easier to obtain like the Star of Gratitude.

That would be great if they did. I never made Mawdrey II solely because of the kitten-ing FotM requirement (I despise JPs and movement-based ‘challenges’ when in a group rather than solo when you can take your time and too many of the FotM force players to do that type of content). IMO it would be a good idea to offer another Bloodstone consumer alternative that is as straightforward to obtain as this Star.

I want a better method of getting rid of this stuff. I don’t craft and I don’t want to spend money on materials to craft Mawdrey II especially with its rather limited utility (3-6 stacks of 50 a day! wtf?). The Star of Gratitude is on par but requires the Jumping Puzzle game mode which I do not do.

My point is this: stop tying QoL enhancements to specific game modes.

For frackin’ sakes, let me put four stacks of this crap in the Mystic Toilet for RNG rewards.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve heard that world chests in the same areas as the JPs also have a chance of dropping the items you need.

I had full ascended gear for a while now and have a surplus of ascended materials with nothing to use them on. I doubt I will go for this though.

It’s not a matter of being the same area. The chests just need to be a particular shape for each ornament.
