10 K drinks need roughly 45 to 50 STACKS of gifts. While the JP, if you were good at it delivered the best rate per hour but some of us simply suck at JP. I might be able to complete it once or twice every 1/2 hour session. And that was after 10 hours of no successful runs. If it wasn’t Charrs in trenchcoats or Norns in dresses obscuring my ability to judge where to land during the snowflake run/present hop, the kitten snowman would blow me off once I got across the presents (couldn’t dodge roll, to do JPs it’s one hand on the mouse and one on the space bar) or I get hit by a tiny snowball and then crushed and pushed off the path by a large rolling one. I’m glad all those years of playing platform games on consoles and free time over semester break paid off for some of you but understand you are the exception not the rule if you did over 1000 successful JP runs.
..snip..

A little tip, and if you don’t know about it yet – try using the Action Camera mode in F11 options. It gives you a point/crosshair in front of your character which makes it much clearer to see exactly where you are jumping to.

Might not make a big difference to some, but I find from the popping boxes on it is easier in action cam.

you can’t reach 29 map points in that time, Gaile is most likely referring to map exploration and not the jp…

….why would she be referring to map exploration when she was referring to this specific case…of jumping puzzle botting? >.>

… What?

Why not use your fingers for WASD and your thumb for spacebar? Unless you’ve got really small hands or a really large keyboard, I can’t even fathom how someone could be unable to dodge roll.

Wait what?

Maybe it’s a self-imposed restriction? Even if you only had one finger (or no fingers) on the hand that presses the spacebar you could still bind dodge to something like control to let you press it for this one instance it’s needed.

Or you could bind your mouse wheel to dodge roll… (I have my middle finger on W and occasionally am using A and D to move left or right as needed, thumb on space bar, mouse for camera view and mouse wheel to dodge – but I’m also not great at this JP, but it is possible).

Oh I do, but if I can’t see the flake (because tiny flake with a max size charr in a billowing trenchcoat pausing on it), I can’t aim for it with the crosshair. If I aim for the charr I’m just as likely to overshoot. If I do make the jump then I’m “inside” the char and can’t tell if I’m standing in a spot where I could make the next jump. And lets not talk about if the walking carpet decides to jump at the same moment as me.

(couldn’t dodge roll, to do JPs it’s one hand on the mouse and one on the space bar)

Wait what?

Yep, can’t use keyboard for movement quickly enough when the platform disintegrates in less than two seconds so I move/steer with the mouse. Need four fingers on the space bar to be sure it registers a press. Never was a PC FPS player so WASD isn’t ingrained in my muscle memory. And I don’t have gamer input devices like a mouse with a ton of buttons, just got the two so remapping the dodge key is out. With my lack of coordination I would just as likely trigger a dodge roll off flakes on the way up anyways.

Got my 15 JP completions over a week for the achievement and I’m done. I think the best I got in an hour of JP was 3 completions. I could get to the presents 80-90% of the time but then fail to cross.

It’s human nature to think if there is something you can do that’s easy to you, it must be easy for everyone. It’s not. Me, I can’t understand why most people can’t do “simple” math in their heads, like calculating unit costs at the grocery store, price with sales tax, a 20% tip or something as simple as change.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

I think a punishment is warranted, to the tune of a week-long suspension or something, but longer than that much less a ban is not.

I say this because I spent years as a WvW main and reported and provided video of countless of hackers, people teleporting into towers and fully, painstakingly upgraded keeps to flip them, and if killed, teleport right back in two seconds. They were so brazen in their actions, emoting while they did it, because they knew nothing would happen to them despite our reports. And I know nothing did, because I added them to my friend list and saw them active and logging on unhindered.

Thus I feel that if unfair gameplay in a PvP game mode, where it actually hinders the experience of other players, goes entirely unpunished, then what difference does someone botting mastery points or vistas in PvE make? It makes no difference to me.

Yes, if you violate the TOS, there should be consequences. I just think when it comes to violations in PvE vs PvP modes, the punishments are completely backwards.

What is a map point? Invisible check points on maps?

What even ARE map points?

Your character’s location is described to the server in terms of X, Y, and Z coordinates in relation to the center of the map; when you move one direction, the numbers will change based on your direction and speed, which allows the person looking at these numbers to figure out what you’re doing (if your Z axis goes up and down rapidly, you’re probably jumping, if it goes down rapidly and suddenly stops, you probably fell off something and died an ignoble death, etc.).

So when a person uses a teleport hack, they generate a very obvious trail of numbers that shows them moving faster than possible (like if they were teleport hopping along the JP) or not generating the kind of numbers expected from actually doing the JP (just teleporting straight to the reward chest and back to the start).

tl;dr: they’re basically GPS coordinates taken at regular time internals. If your numbers say you’re hopping between California and New York several times in a minute, expect eyebrows to be raised.

So, I write my opinion about this case now.

Suckatlove did a video where they got banned and they raged (conceivable) that this ban is not ok. They promoted the game and had a lot of fun and then the ban strikes.

They uploaded this video to show they would not do any more Gw2 releated content.

Then the support itself and the GM turned their back to them. If they cheated or not doesn’t matter. But they did the right thing, made this video private to avoid useless spam and hate and hopefully doing an only information video.

I dont know how the system works. But when i have lags, i can hear my teammates (TS), evrything stops moving, i cannot cast new spells. BUT i can move.

When i die during this procedure, my body (which i see from my point and get seen by other players) shows an other place where the actually corpse lay.

So, you have my port options in the JP. What if they got lags, their actually body stopped jumping, but they jumped, and this happens more times in 60s.

Like:
-> System think you stopped
-> Your body got ported back to the start of the JP
-> System get new information about the actual place, because you jumped in your version of the game
-> You get “Ported” to the location where your avatar seems to be for the player

When this happens a lot of times in one minute (and i swear to god, I know this can happen, i once fought VG in Raid dead while my teammates thought I’m dead suddenly i was alive and 1s later dead again)

Anyway, cheating is not ok, but I’m a dumb person and one of my failures are that I dont judge people until they hurt me in they face so I cannot stand up again.

But don’t worry they’ll get unbanned.

Meanwhile a fellow guild mate of mine pretty much got told by support to suck it up and there’s no chance of reversing his actions (accused of botting for multi-boxing).

Yep good stuff.

29 map points in under 60 seconds? No. I think they’re done for. At least this account that got banned is.

I’ll never understanding cheating in a video game. What is the point of playing if you feel you have to cheat? Why bother?

I don’t wish to sound like I’m in favor of the ‘cheating’, however we’re humans we HATE doing things repetitively, and will look for ways in order to reduce the agony of having to do such by optimizing the task down to even more simpler steps, making this a game mechanic problem that isn’t just Guild Wars 2, but just about every online game one could mention, we do this for fun not do the same things over and over again, Grind Wars is a name however deserved by Guild Wars.

Customer Support has carefully reviewed the data that resulted in the termination of the game account in question. They verified that this account accessed 29 map points in under 60 seconds. It is not possible to accomplish this without the use of a third-party program, the kind of program that is expressly forbidden by our User Agreement and our Rules of Conduct.

Because of these facts, the account termination will not be reversed.

Gaile, been thinking about this a bit while waiting in PvP Q’s. Maybe Anet should carefully review what’s motivating people to “break bad” if you will? Maybe the economic policies of late should be reviewed? Since HoT launched there’s been a lot of threads complaining of the grind, the feeling of hopelessness toward goals, and general lack of “good feeling” about the game. If this ban wave had such volume, I’m concerned what drove a player to choose such behavior.

That’s where I’d be looking, the problem comes from being able to use gems to buy gold I think, it’s too easy to just spend real world money and utterly mess the market up with flood loads of gold, in Guild Wars 1 we actually had to put effort into becoming wealthy that being to farm, there are somethings I’ve no idea how people afford them at all, and I’m not talking about “want” things but fundamental armor upgrades so that a new player can play and experiment with things the system is very restrictive by means of gold.

It’s ANet’s servers, they have logs, they can see what’s happening. Dying repeatedly due to lag is different from appearing at the reward chest and looting it (don’t forget logs also tell ANet if you get items) every 4 seconds.

Unless dying gives you loot, there’s no way your scenario would ever be confused with a cheater using teleport hacks (well, unless the cheater is really bad at it and keeps teleporting to their death).

29 map points in 60 seconds isn’t “lag”. It’s either cheating at the JP or using the bot to farm nodes in a map. Either way, the result is the same.

If you use a bot to gain an unfair advantage over anyone else in a game it’s called cheating. It deserves a ban no matter who they are.

Because of these facts, the account termination will not be reversed.

So why are ppl even discussing this ? The offenders themselves stated they quit the game. Imo, good riddance.

TL:DR OP: Cheater gets banned, come help me cry about it.

That is hilariously inaccurate and only shows how much of a “cool guy” you are trying to be.

A more accurate TL; DR would be: Relatively well known content makers got banned and claimed to have not done anything wrong. Forum Mod states otherwise, and content creators remove innocence claims.

If you cheat you deserve to be banned it doesnt mather if the player is popular or are you saying if the person is well known he should be allowed to cheat ?

Haha some of the apologetics in this thread are ludicrous, yet hilarious. Maybe they were lagging and falling… yeah, good one.

I’ve played MMORPGs for over a decade and I’ve seen this all so many times. It’s amazing the length some people will go to try and convince others they’re innocent despite full well knowing they are not. It never ceases to amaze that people still stand up for them after the fact, too.

I agree that the thread has served it’s purpose now and there doesn’t seem to be much worth discussing. Someone cheated and are upset they got caught, what’s new?

Blaming the ban on Wintersday is just silly.

This game has seen many exploits. Some people getting banned, some manage to slip through the cracks.

It’s not the content that causes people to exploit. People make choices. Clearly they made some bad ones.

It is hilarious and sad that this isn’t the first I’ve seen of stuff like this.

In another MMO I played awhile ago, RMT was extremely popular, and also extremely illegal. On a daily basis, someone would go to the official forums and make the following very specific complaint:

“I was banned unfairly! Someone random person I’ve never met ran up to me, gave me a bunch of gold, and said ‘your order has been filled’, and because of that I was banned for RMTing!”

You’d be surprised how shameless people can be. A conscience isn’t something everybody has. It is something you choose to have.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

What if someone used a network of mesmer portals and/or teleport to friend consumables?

Possible, but that’d be such an edge case that you’d think they’d state so in every opening statement of complaining about the ban, because it stands out so much.

“Yeah, ofc, it might look like that since we did X, but actually what we did was Y – say, use tele-to-friends – which we had plenty of. […]”

Ofc it could still be a false positive, but unlike before where I’d clearly err on the side of the defendant, now there’s quite solid evidence supporting the case.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

I would love if A-Net could communite the reasons for bans through the support tickets and not in the openly accessible forum.

All you get in your ticket is:

“we can’t tell you why you were banned”
“it’s permanent”
“there is no way to undo it”

I’d even be fine with not being allowed to talk about the exact reason but not knowing at all drove me mad for quite a while.

Sure I got an apology and the Senior GM was very nice but he was not allowed(?) to talk about why it happened.
On the social level the GW2 support was and is one of the best.

So my questions:

Why make this case open?
Just to get a hold of the situation?
Can’t you give your GM’s a little more communication freedom IN the tickets?

It’s so blurry, black & white.

I don’t wish this on anyone. It is really devastating – even more so 3 days before HoT.

The consequence for me was to stop helping people on reddit. They could just aswell blame me when they would get banned for “third party tools” cause there are no informations at all.

Yes apparently in this case it was rightfully done but please A-Net..

“Don’t make a martyr of them.” as stated by DoctorDing.

I always wanted to get this out and I hope it’s somewhat contructive.

In their video they stated, that they did not cheat. But if they cheated (the statement of A-Net seems to confirm that they cheated) the video would show that they did not told the truth in their video. In this case the removing of the video would only be to not destroy more of their own reputation and fanbase.

If they cheated they should make a “mea culpa”-video and should be honest and apologize in the video about it and should explain their motivation and that the ban was totally their own fault.

Actually it does matter a lot, if they cheated or not.

I dont think that you would stand up and raise your voice for anything. They stopped with Gw2 as content creators, so why should they apologize for a game they dont want to play anymore?

Grind Wars is a named deserve by over 90% of MMORPGs imo. It was easy to obtain gold in GW1 just by salvaging for the materials and selling the mats in Kamadan.

It’s much harder in GW2 due to many circumstance, we should also not ignore the elephant in the corner either, that it’s very alluring for a business model to have vested interest in making it harder due to the cash > gems > gold path way they have built into the game, and if you’re the beholder of a cynical attitude you can see that caked over every part of the game as a whole, the most difficult of questions to ask how to fairly balance the issue for both the company and the user of the system so that both are equally rewarded.

GW1 System was far superior when it comes to the economy, if only because you couldn’t buy gold “legally” you had to earn it.

If they cheated they should apologize to their fans and youtube-viewers for lying to them in their (now removed) video.

If they did not cheat they should apologize for their childish behaviour in their (now removed) video that also shows that they really do not care about their fans and viewers because it was not only a “f anet” rage-quit rant, but also some kind of “f you all” to all of their viewers.

That would not so much be about GW2 but more about their own reputation as content creators.

If you check the responses to their video, there was a lot of sympathy. Understandably.

The apology would be towards the players who supposed them in regards to being unfairly banned / appealing, as these players were essentially “tricked” into supporting a cause which was pointless – if they cheated, it’s only fair that they got banned.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

One of the reasons I play GW2 is that anet actually bans cheaters, even if they’re popular or whales.

Keep it up.

Some weeks ago i seen an hacker making his/her grind mobs unatackable for otehrs. she used an shine golden buff or so.

I would suggest to include souch “buff” checks to.

Are you sure the shiny gold buff wasn’t just this? It doesn’t make you undetectable by mobs, but it does give you a gold glow if you’ve used it in Auric Basin. I’d suggest you be careful with those types of allegations, or else you might end up falsely reporting people… :/

Uhm.. you got me wrong maybe: The mobs sayed that they cant be damaged. but she or he grinded there with some funny “skills” and the mobs attacked also me.

The level of passive aggresiveness is on point. Made me giggle :p

“Hey guys, we spent our entire Christmas writing a Mesmer and Warrior song! To bad we can’t record it for you!”

Gotta love people who use manipulation tactics to rile up their fan bases. Pretty much explains why this thread was created.

You done good Anet.

If it were up to me, I would increase the duration for another 6 months, especially after this blatant lie.

ANet is too tolerant with botters.

I didn’t see the YouTube vid but I’ve seen the mirror just now….. kitten . Those two, if Anet are sure they cheated (which it sounds like they are), should be perma banned. Cheating then going off on the company they cheated is full scum bag. Those two made money from GW and thought they were above the rules clearly.

Good riddance.

Yeah. That was interesting to listen to. To me, the man’s voice tones in particular sounded like faked outrage rather than sincere upset and them going on about how they’ll never play Guild Wars 2 again when/if their innocent accounts are restored sounded over the top.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Good riddance, they cheated so they deserved the ban, hope their viewers realizes this and not support them anymore. They act childish in the video, blaming arena net for banning them for an unfair ban, which they lied about, not only that they probably just kids or very immature adults, so they deserved the ban.

Someone should take the mirror video and upload it to youtube and show them this thread so their fans can see they lying.
