then they have to be clear about it, if you react to a video like this as a developper either you react clearly or you don’t react at all, you don’t leave it somewhere in speculation

Or based on the fact that Stacy was apparently the primary person in the video, they could have assumed that Suck at Love = Stacy alone and only checked her account based on that. I would not assume that ANet checked out more than the one video linked to in the thread, since it wasn’t an appeal by the account owner that started the investigation.

At this point it is between her and support. If she is truly innocent she needs to make a ticket and work with ANet about it and make her argument and I doubt ANet will make any more public announcements concerning this.

Yes. If she wants her accout back earlier than in the 6-months (it is not a permanent ban) she should contact A-Net and convince them (not us) that she has nothing to do with this.

If she has already done this, or not, only she knows. But she also said in the video that she will never play GW2 again, even if she gets her account back. Time will tell.

However, the brother transferred 200 (when I remember correctly) gold from his cheating-account to the account of his sister. That is a pattern that is also found by botters/cheaters and that is why (I suppose) A-Net not only bans/suspends the accounts of botters/cheaters but also the accounts that benefits from those by directly receiving gold ec. because they are connected and mostly also in some way involved in the cheating/botting.

I know Stacy, i’ve played with her and helped with some of their videos. Only met her brother at the actual videos. From what i’m getting he did something stupid and she’s being punished for it.

She is one of the most friendly and warm people i know in GW2. Go hate me all you want but i think botters deserve to be banned, and Zack clearly realised he kittened up now. His sister however is guilty by association? I don’t agree with that.

No, she absolutely isn’t guilty by association and I am 100% certain that if she were to prove that she’s a separate user with a separate account who did nothing wrong, she would be unbanned. However, the way she reacted to this is pathetic.

Mere hours after the ban she already had a video up. How can she expect Anet to respond in such short a time frame?! And how did she respond? By blaming Anet, the community, basically everyone, but never questioning her brother. Since then, her posts on Reddit have been remarkably childish, immature, filled with grammatical mistakes, logical inconsistencies and just plain BS. They show absolutely no remorse. Instead she tries to make herself and her brother a victim and everyone else a bad guy. Her brother apologized(though very half-heartedly), but she needs to do so as well. At absolutely no point does she seem to challenge the validity of her position on this topic. She fully deserves most (not all) of what she’s getting.

I am not saying this means she’s not a nice person, she probably is. But when you act on impulse and so childishly, expect nothing short of what you got. She deserves this.

Wow, I’m surprised this is still going. o.o

Seems like it turned into those that are glad they got banned vs those that think they should be given some slack.

When Gaile made her post, she mentioned “the account (singular) in question”. Since it was Stacy who was in the majority of the video and the one who started it, it might be safe to assume Gaile was referring to HER account all along. Maybe he used her account to bot. Maybe they shared the account. Or maybe he botted on both. We just don’t know. But Anet does. It would be nice if Anet would clear it up so all this bickering could stop. Either way…it was also mentioned that botted gold was sent to her account. Im not totally sure if it’s a bannable offense to receive botted gold (i’m guessing yes? >.> ). But to Anet it must look VERY suspicious…as a clear sign of botting on an alt account and sending it to a main account. I’m not sure how she’d even be able to plead her case…ESPECIALLY if they played on the same PC, which would give both accounts the same IP AND hardware ID.

The reason they are under so much fire is not because they were banned for botting. It’s because of how THEY handled it. Everything they did looked suspicious. Its so public, because THEY made it so public. If they posted an “I screwed up, I apologize” video from the start, instead of a “It’s Anet’s fault none of out followers will hear anymore of our songs” video, things might be very different.

At the very least…the brother is guilty, no matter what the situation is. If the sister is innocent, he knowingly went along with the rage video, adding his commentary to it, knowing all along he did wrong. I feel like that is a horrible thing to do. If he knew he did wrong he should have said “no, that video should NOT be done”, and came clean to her about what he did. However…sorry….but I do strongly feel like they are both guilty.

Anet is just doing what every mmorpg will do. Banning not only bots but all their related accounts.

Also, there are actual money transaction between her brother’s account, it’ll be hard to plead her case.

Other game company would just automatically close all accounts if they share IP or mac address or credit card.

I get it that some people think that a permanent ban is better to deal with these cheaters than a temporary suspension. After all, it seems commonsense.
However, commonsense is not always right and if sound data says otherwise, we should stick to the data.

They admitted it after trying to make Anet look like they were the bad guys banning innocent people, posting a ridiculous YouTube video, and then hours of silence (and video removal) after Anet came out and stated they had indeed cheated with information to back up those claims.

It is one thing to say you’re sorry, a mistake was made, it won’t happen again…another to deflect, lie, etc.

The brother did apologize in his reddit post. And he explained why he lied – “we outsiders” simply can’t know if he really didn’t remember his so-called “one-time” cheating before he and his sister made the rage video, or not. And the video removal is perfectly fine, ever heard of damage control? Not everyone reads the forums, many ppl who might watch the video could really believe Anet are the bad guys here. Taking the video down doesn’t hurt anyone, right?

The brother apologized for everything on reddit, as for the sister I dunno, so is there really MORE need for the hate? Can’t the “friendliest MMO community” just stop behaving like a mob of vultures?

The community isn’t behaving like a bunch of vultures. I’m certainly not. You’re not. We’re both part of the community.

Communities are made of people and people aren’t uniformly good or bad. There’s a top 5% and a bottom 5%. They’re bad and really really good. Most of us fall between.

Unfortunately the bottom five percent is often visible. Why paint the whole community with one brush?

@Fox

I think you’re grasping at straws in this whole matter because you want her to be innocent, possibly because you know her personally. However I think it’s most unlikely that ANet did not double check both accounts closely. They had to know who they were as content creators and this means that once it was publicly raised and the two of them both were accusing ANet of falsely suspending them, it’s unlikely they would only double check one account and not the other. Especially in not checking her’s as it was her video and her doing most of the talking. Her brother only came on the video for a short while. If they were only going to double check one, it would have been her, not her brother who was the secondary person on the video.

When her brother came into the video it was pretty obvious he was reading from a script. He didn’t come off as being sincere and seemed more like he didn’t even want to be in the video.

Yah I noticed that and said

Yeah. That was interesting to listen to. To me, the man’s voice tones in particular sounded like faked outrage rather than sincere upset and them going on about how they’ll never play Guild Wars 2 again when/if their innocent accounts are restored sounded over the top.

His voice was especially flat toned like he was an actor reading a script, badly, that called for a lot of outrage but he was feeling none of it.

In my defense there’s a whole lot of comments in this thread and it’s too much to read. LoL.

But yeah, something seemed off about the whole thing.

There’s something charming about rangers.
