Grind Wars is a named deserve by over 90% of MMORPGs imo. It was easy to obtain gold in GW1 just by salvaging for the materials and selling the mats in Kamadan.

It’s much harder in GW2 due to many circumstance, we should also not ignore the elephant in the corner either, that it’s very alluring for a business model to have vested interest in making it harder due to the cash > gems > gold path way they have built into the game, and if you’re the beholder of a cynical attitude you can see that caked over every part of the game as a whole, the most difficult of questions to ask how to fairly balance the issue for both the company and the user of the system so that both are equally rewarded.

GW1 System was far superior when it comes to the economy, if only because you couldn’t buy gold “legally” you had to earn it.

No, it just meant players went through third parties to buy their gold illegally. Perhaps you don’t remember all the RMT scams that plagued GW1, account theft, item theft… mostly tied to people trying to buy gold from some seedy third party website.

Gold buying has always been a thing, and as much as it makes me go cross-eyed, I don’t blame ArenaNet (or any company) deciding they want a cut on that action.

Hm… a pity. I don’t condone cheating, don’t particularly like it happening, but I can understand what might drive people to do it. Its a risk some people feel the need to take.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I like how Anet bans without regard to how much people spend or how much content they create. No one should be immune to the law.

What is a map point? Invisible check points on maps?

I’m guessing the game records the position of your current character at regular intervals.

We know they record quite some metrics to know what players are doing, and where they are doing it.

For those overly confused….. 29 map points as in the the jumpe puzzle points you get at the end the wintersday jump puzzle…. meaning in 1 minute they achieved completing the puzzle 29 times and collected the chest… THAT IS 2 SECONDS TO GO FROM THE START OF THE PUZZLE TO THE END CHEST…. quite simple. Now for those who doubt the validity of ANET’s ban, i challenge you to finish the wintersday puzzle in 2 seconds from starting point to opening the chest.

Also if you watch the mirrored video…. she admits that he mailed her 200 gold for christmas, now no 1 can say that the gold that was mailed was the profits from botting or not other then themselves or ANET, however if the gold was from botting and then sent to the 2nd account in the house hold (hers) that is a bannable offense as well.

It’s likely based on when you last opened it similar to the timer on the chest in the labyrinth in SW.

On topic: banning everyone in a household for one person botting would be bad.

Why? More peer pressure not to bot that way.

Spy on your family?
Ban entire net cafes?
Ban university dorms?
Ban parents for an idiot child?

This would be an extremely bad way to go about it.

Wow, everyone is so judgmental. Like Anet had NEVER gotten it WRONG? They sounded pretty sincerely upset for being banned, and I would be too if I was wrongly banned. The evidence seems really weak to me, why would anyone port to 29 map locations within 60 seconds, and why would they only do it once? Gaile didn’t say they regularly ported all over maps or on 15 separate occasions they use some sort of bot to port around the map or the WD JP which was not mentioned, so we don’t even know if that was were the “offence” occurred.
Consider the Wolfy’s example. He was ABSOLUTELY NOT DOING ANYTHING WRONG, but he still had to above Anet to NCSoft to have his case looked at seriously, and only then did he get he account reinstated… If this happened to me, I’d be far more upset than that video.

If they really are bads, there should be a lot more than one instance of porting 29 times in 60 seconds, what can they possibly be doing? I don’t even think you can reload the map in 2 seconds…..

New reddit post from the brother

A response from “Suck at Love”

I wanna shine a little light on the whole cheating matter. I am 100 % aware about the terrible things I have done and said and I assure you, I am not proud of them. I just hope that some of you will understand that there is a story behind this and maybe reconsider the whole “just terrible cheaters/botters/liars and bad human beings” mindset. So here is what I did:

First of all, Stacy had NOTHING to do with any of this. She deserves nothing of the hate we are getting because of me. I kittened up, big time, and I take full responsibility.

A few weeks back, it was very late at night, I got incredibly bored and decided to browse some shady websites. I found a hack. After posting on the thread that I might be interested in trying this software, I got a message from another member of that forum, basically giving me their login-data for the software, because they didn’t use it anymore. This software works by giving it coordinates and teleporting your character to them. People provided the coordinates for various things, like map completion, gathering routes and so on. I decided to try it out by “auto-exploring” Verdant Brink, and porting myself to a few jumping puzzles. As soon is I finished, I felt incredibly guilty and deinstalled the software, not telling anyone about it.

When we posted our Video yesterday, I didn’t even think about this, since the whole center of the banwave was about the Winter Wonderland JP.

I am deeply sorry for what I have done, especially to my sister, who I love more than anything in the world. I wanna apolagize to ANet for wrongfully blaming them. I deserve all the hate we are getting, and believe me, I feel every bit of it. I hate what I’ve done and I wish I could turn back time.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Blech. Right.

People here are thinking S@L ported to 29 maps in 60 seconds, but Gaile mentioned 29 map points. This probably really refers to points on a single map, such as waypoints, points of interests, vistas, that sort of thing. This sort of tool would be used to get through Map Completion faster I would guess, and definitely deserves a ban. It’s also just a single caught example; S@L likely did this sort of thing multiple times of getting caught even just once.

Map points are likely the x-y-z coordinates of the player’s position on the map. I am sure ANET logs player’s coordinates and could use an algorithm to detect irregular movement.

People really think that arenanet would go out of their way to fake evidence on a topic that created this much buzz just to save their hides? Really?

That is waaaay more believable than the alternative: someone f-ing up and trying to get away with it.

NOT.

Maybe will be hard for sister to prove innocent if she really is. She mention in video account that cheat (just admit this today) sent to her gold for Christmas. If account cheat send gold to other account with same IP it will look very suspicious. Or if she use same computer to play of account that had this cheat software install will also look very suspicious. If sister is innocent I think Anet will figure this out. But in video they make they say will never play GW2 again anyway then guess it do not matter.

Source? All the ones I’ve dealt with in the past have simply returned once the ban’s up or got a new account/MAC/HWID to bypass. They generally have enough disposable income to fund such habits that most normal players couldn’t – sometimes through their exploits/botting. If someone really wants to bot, and it’s a means of income, they will find a way to do so.

Honestly, even if she is innocent she’s screwed because he sent her gold. I mean maybe they’d be willing to unban her and take away the 200g but I’d guess not since sending gold to an unbotted account is a really common way of trying to get around bans.

“Schadenfreude” is when some laughs at something bad happening to someone else un_deserved_ly . You know… “without good reason”. Not at all the case here.

And perhaps contrary to your assumptions, most people really do not like cheaters, especially when upon getting caught they go on youtube and proclaim their innocence until confronted with the hard facts.

Fact is he had to think about this some time and make effort to cheat. The cheat software with coordinate did not just show up in his computer and he press run just to see what happen. He admit he search for cheat software. He admit he ask about use the cheat software in some forum. He admit someone give him software. He admit he install software. He admit he then find coordinate to make cheat software work. He admit doing the cheat.

This is not some thing he did not have time to think about what he do. It take time and effort for him to do these things even before he run the software and cheat. He have plenty of time to think about what he do before he do it. He knew what he do, thought about it before do it, and put time and effort in to be able to do the cheat.

Then when caught he say he did not think about all these thing he do and thought ban was for bot in winter jump puzzle. I do not feel sorry for this person. He is prove liar and cheat. He deserve ban.

If sister is innocent for real I do feel bad for her. If innocent because of brother lie and cheat she lose her game and reputation to. Maybe even damage relationship between her and brother.

I can see where they’re coming from but my point stands that if someone stands to gain substantially by botting, they’ll find a way to continue to do so no matter the length of the punishment. Not many people are that determined which is why there’s more legit players than those breaking the rules by making money off a game and therefore the ‘minor’ botting offences are more easily forgiveable.

Did they say that’s what happened? Because all I heard were that his account was banned for botting, and her account was banned probably because the 200g he sent her was a profit from botting. She was complicit whether she knew about it or not.
If she truly didn’t know about it I think it’s fair she gets the account back but, honestly, I’m skeptical.

First of all, your argument is irrelevant, botting and running red lights are not related. Nor are any of your other “examples”. Personally, I don’t feel I have the facts or the right to lay down judgment. And, I never suggested that his ban be lifted, did I? You were ok to that point, but now you are in your own fantasyland, maybe he made a million gold!!! maybe he saved 1000 puppies!!! maybe he’s really a terrorist, maybe he and his sister are BOTH terrorists, or maybe they are simple fallible human beings just like everyone else… Are you saying that if I sent 200g to someone that I should be banned, because I certainly have sent similar sums to people more than once.

Personally, I think it’s a little harsh to ban them both for a single 60 second incidence to grab a quick map completion that was never repeated, it’s not like any rewards gotten can’t be removed, but on the other hand, it’s pretty clearly botting, and totally Anet’s call, they know all the facts.

Are you saying the gold you sent people was attained through illicit means?

Also, if you don’t know all the facts to lay down judgement as you say, should you really be assuming all they did was 60 seconds worth of botting to, you know, just grab a casual map completion etc.

You asked for the source and I gave you the source. I’d rather believe what the studies made by Blizzard and other companies/groups conclude, which, by the way, is exactly what anet has done with this ban wave, than what a random nobody says on the internet.

So someone who runs a red light (only once!) in their car should get a free pass?
Someone who steals out of the cash register at work (only once!) should only get a tap on the wrist?

That’s all Anet spoke about (and ANet prefers not to give out details as those details help hackers figure out how to get around detection). Once ANet said that, then that’s what he admitted to. No more, no less.

He spent time researching hacks, speaking on a forum to hackers then downloading his selected hack. If anyone thinks that after all that time and effort he only used it for one minute then I’ve got some land in Florida to sell to them, with only a minor crocodile problem.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.
