With the Game having now actively Airborne Combat with Gliders, I think its absolutely the time to implemement directly fittign to this improvement to Gliding also a Mastery line, that improves your abilities when you are gliding in air and start combat or get attacked when gliding in air.

First of all, this new trait Line should unlock first after you have mastered first the Basic Gliding Mastery and have mastered Ley Line Gliding together with mastering the Magic Mastery you receive with getting into Bloodstone Fen and progressed the story so far, that you learn how to make usage of the many magic to make improvements to your Glider to upgrade your Glider into a Magical Paraglider, which enables you not just only to glide, but to actually “fly” with the help of all the Magic in the air that you will use with the help of Taimis upgrades of your old glider to gain boosts to rise higher just with the help of the magic in the air instead of havign to use any further updrafts just to get higher (stil lcan be used to hise higher very quickly)

Airborne Combat Mastery

(1) Lighter than Air
Mastered how to use Taimies Upgrades to your newly improved magical Paraglider – short, the M.P.G to become able to fly now literally freely in regions where enough magic exists to let the M.P.G let make usage of it so that you can rise up at will slowly now too, because the magic in your newly upgraded anti gravitic magitech wings makes you and the construction you wear with its help now lighter than air.
Due to this improvement do you become now also resistent from falling down to death eventually, if you get attacked by some enemies from the ground (like those annyoing foes in bloodstone fen do permanently, even from the most ridiculous far away ranges where they shouldn’t be able to hit you anymore…)

(2) Flying Stunts
You are now so skilled with handling your new M.P.G, that you have learned how to perform with it Deflection Rolls and Quick Loopings to either counter this way incoming projectile attacks by deflecting the attack back to your enemy by volleying it back with your reinforced wings, or to dodge them automatically while performing a quick looping in which you avoid all incoming attacks

(3) Bombardment
Unlocks Skill Slots 6-9 with that you can use various different “Bombardment Skills” to let rain down death from above either or to spread supportive effects all over the place below you

(4) Stealth Flight
Changes your Stealth from the Gliding Mastery to a permanent Stealth that stays as long as you don’t attack something, or as long you don’t remove your Glider in the air to fall down to lose height that way quickly.

(5) Jet Streamer
You have learned how to make usage of Jet Streams to fly 50% quicker now and 100% quicker when flying into a Jet Stream or into Leyline Energy Streams, where Jet Streams just accellerate your flight speed, whereas Leyline Streams accellerate not only your flight speed, but put you like known also kinda into Auto Pilot where you get moved automatically to the point to which the leyline leads you.

(6) Falcon Dive
Unlocks for you a new way of fast losing height thats quicker than just removing the Glider – the Falcon Dive Ability in which you fall down from the sky like a falcon diving down from the sky for its prey. When performed nearly the ground with an targeted enemy, this move will lead to a Dive Attack that will knock down the enemy and that will deal some serious damage thats proportionally bigger from so higher you started the Dive Attack.

(7) Force Shield
Unlocks the Force Field Ability, a protective Shield Upgrade from Taimi to your M.P.G that makes direct usage of the M.P.G’s wielders Stamina and channges the Stamina of the wielder into a powerful defensive Shield that protects the user of the M.PG from direct damage for the cost of losing Stamina, so that you lose first Health, if you get hit when being out of Stamina, enabling you to fly through instabilitys quickly without getting damaged, if you have enough Stamina so that your Force Shield withstands the damage you’d take normally otherwise.

(8.) Radar Scanner
You have now a Radar Scanner integrated into your Glider, which enables you to localize alot better all kinds of Gathering Nodes and Enemies on the Map

(9) Auto Pilot System (A.P.S)
Enables you not to activate while flying with the M.P.G the newly by taimi integrated Auto Pilot System, which when activated takes over the fight control for you and automatically flies the M.P.G with your character to your preprogrammed destination point that you have chosen out of a list of possible options of coordinates that you have to receive first (like recipes)
Example: You are standing just somewhere in Bloodstone Fen and you are flying, you activate the Auto Pilot, then the M.P.G asks you whats your destination point and you chosse then for example the coordinates for “Proud of the Pact”, then the M.P.G’s A.P.S will fly you automatically to the point in the map ,where you start, the airship Proud of the Pact and lands you there

(10) Bloodstone Blaster
Unlocks for your Air Combat the Elite Skill, Taimis ultimate upgrade for your M.P.G..a Bloodstone Crystal Cannon, which charges up alot of magic all around you to concentrate it into one mighty shot that will cause where it lands absolute destruction by a mighty magical explosion that is by a multitude more damaging than just our fly combat skills’ auto attack beam. We charge it up and unleash it anytime we want, so longer we charge the skill up, so more powerful it becomes.

just some brainstorming, but I’d love to see a mastery for this new gameplay element as part of our character development to make the flying combat also for the future of this game more interesting and fun, especially when we might see coming into the futury maybe also enemies in the air and not just only enemies on the ground …

Noooo… who has said here anything about flying PvP ???

And if you start already with the Aion topic.. then ask this question anet, as they clearly have basically begun already to turn GW2 more and more into Aion 2 basically the very moment they added Gliders to the game with gazillions of WING SKINS ….

It was just only an absolutely obvious matter of time until they would go over to the next step and add fly combat skills to the glider to make it more interesting..

However even from this viewpoint its again basically just a matter of time, until gflying pvp would find its way to at least WvW I think…I think normal PvP will be absolutely off the table right from the start…as that’s now not what GW2’s PvP is all about, unless the responsible devs at Anet had suddenly changes in their mind sets about all of this. who knows.. personally I’m also a bit surprised that they really added combat skills, but this change again makes it more possible, that we might see one day flying combat for WvW, eventually in a 3rd borderline map thats designed all around this
Would be nice and as improvement also for desert borderland, but just there without combat skills, just gliding.

PS: however, this thread was made wholely just with mainly PvE and Character Development in my mind first for PvE. Anything else coming fro all of this would be just positive side products

Agree with OP, the moment they added aerial capabilities via gliders and with Bloodstone Fen > aerial evading and offensive abilities; it was only a matter of time and they should take things a step further.

Stopping with it all would be only half-kittening with an already cool concept/idea. And those are extreme turnoffs when gaming. So being able to have a wider array of abilities with lift capability would be really nice.

Yes I’m a vet, yes I’m salty. Problem?

Kind of similar thought about it in regard of the UI Setting

Air Combat Skill UI Setup

1: AA Beam Magic Beam
2: Ground Target AoE Attack
3: Ground Target Regeneration Support
4: Don’t know yet what it does, not unlocked yet
5: Don’t know yet what it does, not unlocked yet, but seems to be just a visual gimmick based on the description for one of the achievements thats bonded to this skill’s first usage

6: Self Heal with Ground Target Heal/Condition Remove Bombardment
7: Massive DPS Cluster Bomb Bombardment for Condition DPS (Burning, Confusion, Vulnerability, Bleeding, Torment, Cripple)
8: Protective Support Bombardment for AoE Boons (Protection, Quickness, Fury, Resistance)
9: Massive AoE Crowd Control Bombardment for Hard CC’s (Stuns/Knockdown) paired with Chill, Slow, Weakness and Poison
10: Bloodstone Crystal Cannon (Elite)

F1 while in air = Falcon Dive Activation when Enemy targeted
F2 while in air =Radar Scanner Activation to localize Enemis and Gathering Nodes in your near on the Minimap
F3 while in air =Force Shield Activation
F4 while in air = A.P.S Activation

Double Press quickly Shift Up = Quick Looping
Double Press quickly Shifft Down = Deflection Roll
——

After learnign the Basic Skill Sets, Anet could introduce some more Airborne Combat Masteries, with that certain NPCs become willing to talk with you to teach you new different Air Combat Skills for Slot 1-5 based on which type of role you want to fullfill in the air

Advanced Airborne Strategies
Unlocks for you the ability to talk now with some Air Combat Tacticians (NPCs) in the Aerodrome at Lions Arch, which will teach you new strategies for Air Combat so that you can unlock for the cost of different types of T7 Materials and collected Magic different Air Combat Skill Sets.

Unlocks a Skill Set that you can buy via collected Magic + Empyreal Fragments instead of Bloodstone Dust

Unlocks a Skill set that you can buy via collected Magic + Dragonite Ore

Unlocks a Skill Set that you can buy via collecte Magic + Crystalline Ore

That way we would have then four different air Combat Skill Sets between that they playr could switch out of combat to make Air Combat this way a bit more complex and interesting.
Each of these could provide then also different Elite Skills

Bloodstone Skills = Bloodstone Crystal Cannon = Long Range Power DPS
Emperial Skills = Celestial Force Field = Group Support
Dragonite Skills = Dragoon Missile Launcher = AoE Condition DPS/ Extra powerful vs all kinds of Dragon Spawns and Minions
Crystalline Skills = Crystal Sleep Bombardment = Crowd Control

That way woudl receive also especially the other two tier 7 materials dragonite ore and empyreal fragments some more temporal sinks for those materials also too.

There is no Suggestions forum, you’re in the right place. Possibly this could go to Heart of Thorns since only those with HoT will be able to get a mastery anyway? But this forum tends to garner most of the game mechanic suggestions. Your title change was good, that focuses ANet eyes on it so they know what is in the thread.

I wouldn’t mind more mastery lines if more mastery points are added in sufficient quantity to cover them. I squeezed out most all I could from the HoT maps (and am maxed except for raids). I like seeking achieves, I do spend enjoyable time on it, but I seriously had to work for the last three points to finally get Nuhoch Alchemy and be able to buy the last bits for HOPE. I don’t know that there’s much left for me to find there if suddenly I have to fund a new line.

The Bloodstone Fen airborne combat skills would make some HoT boss fights awesome. The main one I’m thinking about is Legendary Wyvern Patriarch.

Agreed, it could be a very interesting addition to (boss)fights, given it is balanced properly of cause – that however I have no clue how to do.

Why would they? (typing this as the thread is 2 days old) It’s a perfectly fine topic and interesting discussion.

1. I do like the idea of not falling to your death everytime you’re zapped with lightning, but I thought we already had stealth gliding to dodge this? I haven’t tried, though, since I don’t keep an eye on either the sky or my debuffs. Also, what would happen if someone uses a Bind or Pull skill on you while you’re gliding? Just in general, not necessarily while stealthed.
2. I’m not sure about this. How would you limit how many times you can dodge, would you limit the minimum height you need to be at to do this, and what would happen if you try dodging too close to the ground or land on your side?
3. As long as they don’t do as much damage/healing as your land skills. I feel like gliding skills like this should be limited to being useful in only structured pvp, like using glider bombs on iron doors.
4. I think if you’re hit with an aoe, you should unstealth, too. Otherwise, i can see this being exploited.
5. Do we have jets in tyria?
6. Okay but it can’t be a click-to-target attack. Has to be you click a spot to dive to and if you miss and hit the ground instead, you’re Downed or lose a lot of hp proportional to how high you fell from. Minimum half your hp lost.
7. Do you mean the stamina that you use to glide without Advanced Gliding? I see problems. Like even without the infinite stamina issue, players can just drop and re-activate shield once they build up enough stamina. So everyone will be invincible while gliding with this skill. I say no.
8. No to the gathering nodes. Yes to enemies in pvp and wvw only, if it disables all your other skills. Otherwise everyone woule become a powerful scout who can target/avoid everything before that thing even gets into range.
9. No. Whether you’re asking for perfect air guidance or teleporting, no. I can see so many problems in both programming and practice.
10. No. Giant no. Unless we have more time to dodge and as obvious of a visual to see it as the hanging sword from the bandit Executioner.

Anyway, if this air combat thing is going to happen, i’d prefer all skills to be class and weapon based like land and water are. People are still trying to make water combat work, so this whole air idea might not happen for… ever.

Embered, I think the suggestion is to have this for PvE, same way we have it in Bloodstone Fen now. Your concerns seem to be about PvP issues and so far we have not seen any intent on ANet’s part to add gliding to PvP, likely for a lot of the reasons you list.

I did think that it was, but I don’t see a current reason to add air combat in for PvE. What we have right now in Bloodstone is good without integrating ourselves into that chaotic world too much—which is what keeps it appropriately chaotic. If we were to be able to do everything the OP wants, Bloodstone would turn into a playroom. So I answered as if the suggestions could possibly be used in PvP.
Before suggesting things for PvE combat, there would need to be a map design for air creatures >.> someone should put on their designing hat and make an air map just for fun. No bottom safety land allowed. You fall below the lowest floating island, you die.
