Patch Feedback [merged]
I am reading patch notes, and WOW. 20 pages of nerfs to your favorite class. To The Ground. About time.
That thing you were asking for in the other thread? Didn’t make it. Plus they made some big changes to that thing you don’t care about.
Plus that thing they promised, can’t find it anywhere.
Most importantly – they fixed…
Wow disgusting they could ATLEAST Go out and say
We didnt finish the patch today it is gonna be released the 17th….. i hope they something something
havent A-net said somewhere that they don’t want to communicate too much so they wont be held to their quotes? I am not sure whether that was an official statement or not, but the lack of red posts answering questions on this new patch shows it a bit.
In order to communicate clearly, they themselves must have a clear plan that THEY understand. Does not give me much confidence that they have anything planned out properly long term.
But I’m here with everyone else waiting for the patch and dying to play the new fractals. Sigh, need to fix up my priorities.
Keeping in mind they don’t want to be liable for claims that don’t happen. And also that the majority of folks need to calm down. Despite the fact that they want to deliver the patch with quality:
If Anet was an airport….
Having come over from another MMO (not WoW), I grew fairly accustomed to getting patch notes weeks before a patch hit, and then watching them evolve in stages. This gave the players time to give the Development team (constructive) feedback, and maybe point out scenarios they didn’t think about, as this happens often… After all, a Developer is only human.
I don’t think it would be unreasonable for ANet to release patch notes in advance. There are a fair share of people who would “chicken little” over every change to their class, but they can be easily ignored, honestly. I learned a long time ago in GW1, no matter how many complaints there are, unless something is technically broken, ANet won’t go back just because of public outrage (anyone remember the LoD nerf?). What early patch note release does is gives us some idea of what we can look forward to. It gives us a sense of direction once a new patch drops, and (bonus) it generates buzz. How is that a bad thing? I don’t think it’s a stretch to say, this game could use some good press right now.
But alas, this thread, and others like it, fall victim to the same problem that I mentioned previously: ANet has never caved to public outrage that I can recall in my years with GW1, and now here. And so patch note release prior to the actual patching of the client is unlikely.
It would be welcome, but is unlikely.
Hawkmoon, I agree with you totally. Before GW2 the only experience with MMOs I had was EVE Online, and if CCP tried the mushroom approach with their players they would get lynched. They devblog almost every single change they make. When an EVE patch comes out, players are prepared.
And if they say the patching process will start at 1200PST, it kitten well starts then.
And that doesn’t even touch on ninja-deleting pages, ninja-editing things…

That would be my assumption as well; they’re being vague and avoiding a real answer because they, themselves, don’t even know if they’ll be able to get it out before the end of today.
Which, sadly, would indicate a pretty severe lack of competence.

Hm… Actually, Hawkmoon… If I were them I would rather be yelled at for a failed collaborative patch than a failed secretive patch where feedback is one way… Props
I am willing to forgive the late patch, more or less, even though it will mean I am probably going to miss the event.
What I find unacceptable is the fact that there has been NO official communication from ANYONE regarding this matter. We were promised a patch on the 15th at a specific time. That patch has so far not materialized, nor have we been informed in any way WHY it is late, or when it is going to be here. Ballpark figures or guesstimates would have been okay. A post on the forum from a dev or a mod saying ’we’re sorry, the patch has been delayed, you can watch this thread for more details’ would have been great.
Ringing silence is not an acceptable reply.
Especially not when I am sitting here, watching my clock tick past midnight, having stayed up late on a work night to download the patch in the vain hope that I would be able to attend the event.
Stop being stupid, Arenanet and tell us what is going on
Just caught it on the stream with Jonathon Sharp, build should be going live 3-4pm PST.
(edited by Grimwolf.7163)
dev on twitch said patch in an hour to hour an half
Yes, he just announced 1hour-1.5hours from now.
on stream:
“Build will be out around 1 hour/1hour & a 1/2)
so = 3pm/4pm PST/
11pm/12amGMT
RoostaGW2
New build is going live in about an hour and a half according to jonathon sharp on the live feed going on right now!!
Why aren’t they on the forums, telling us about this? Why should it be on the hands of the people watching the stream to deliver that information secondhand?

Was just about to post this, but you beat me to it. :P
well at least we know. I’m going to go read about zombies and update my EVE client. pfft
Seriously, this information is only available on a stream about a pvp map and nowhere else. How difficult is it to just to post this information on the site, forums, Twitter, Facebook, etc.?

Doesn’t matter anyway as the login servers are down again.
Hello everyone, arrownin here again. This time it’s on a different subject, but still relates to my earlier post about communication. It’s two words.
Patch Notes
Many of you are aware that ArenaNet does not release any information on patch notes until the day the patch launches. While I do not want to call them out, or say I know better (because I’m no game developer and have no reason to talk about issues relating to game developing) instead, I would like to suggest something that is common practice in other mmorpgs, and for good reason. Patch notes. I don’t mean patch notes on the day of them going live, I mean patch notes a week in advance. Players should be informed about upcoming patches, not just the details and the hints and the secret whispers. To me, keeping information about a game under-wraps as they do presently, is very annoying. It is like a bunch of school girls gossiping about you across the room at class; you’re interested in what they’re talking about, but in the end it just becomes annoying because you won’t get any information out of them. Here are a few points why patch notes should be in the future, patch notes that are released weeks before release.
- Professional players need to know specific stat changes and upcoming changes in order to know what to do next; this is essential to esports, LoL does it and it works.
- Feedback can be given before it’s too late. An overpowered change or a horrible concept could be criticized and discussed which allows the developers to know what players want/need.
- Not knowing what changes are coming can create a sense of worry and stress within classes, and can cause outcries that are just, not needed. I.E: Thieves back stabs, Warrior’s 100 blades so on so on…
Another thing that would improve these frustrating surprise patches would be to stick to a date, stick to a time, release on schedule. Be specific about times. Many players have other things to do, patches are very important, but if we do not know when to create free time for the release of said patch, it becomes a chore to wait.
In the end, this is just an example of a failure to communicate critical information about the product. With such a dedicating genre as an mmorpg information is not an optional feature to players, they expect to know what is going on. Rightfully so. Yes gamer entitlement blah blah blah; I like to know what will change and when in my mmos, does that make me entitled? Probably.
Other than communication, Anet does very well, this is just a subject that they have failed in, and I hope they focus more on it for the future.
Well, why would they need to post it here when the viewers of the stream do it anyway?
Oh thought it was problem on my side. Any idea how long servers gonna be down? i will just go watch supernatural
I just got kicked out of the game and now the log in servers are down, I guess they are applying the patch now
Patch Notes will come after the update…like always. IMO release them a few hours before the update.
hrm well i guess they better get crackin on the login servers then huh or there will be alot of empty servers when/if they patch and kick everyone out of the game to download said build 8(
i finished a spvp game and got kicked. same for me… login server down
And a week after the patch goes live…nobody will give a rats kitten what was said and when…
They hold back the patch notes for the economy, if they change an item or a recipe, the TP will go crazy with people trying to buy or sell what they have.
When they made the Cooking changes, they never said anything specific until patch day…I WONDER WHY!!!
You mean Vanilla Beans? that ingredient is used at like 100 chef recipe and a 400 chef recipe. Ruined my leveling hard.
Short answer, No.
Longer answer: Until the patch goes live, things are subject to change. Posting notes a week in advance will not be useful, and even if they state clearly “this is all subject to change”, players will whine and moan about changes between the notes and the actual patch.
In addition, while there may be issues on the communications front, the last few days have seen an explosion on the forum with respect to the upcoming patch. With what you propose, we will see the same thing with every patch and lots of “the sky is falling” type of complaints based on people’s reaction to how they think the patch will change their gameplay rather than being based on how their gameplay has actually changed.

And Butter, and Chocolate, and several other in-bulk items…
Yes, exactly that.
We’re aware of the log in issues and are investigating. Thanks for your patience ^SL
from twitter.
not sure, if a patch is realy inc
Then isn’t it possible to leave out of the patch note the thing that risk to impact economy, and meanwhile keep players up to date with changes that are gonna take place in their profession ?
Let’s take a silly example. I want to do some condition damage build on my Thief. I stuff him, spend my gold to buy/craft equipment. And all of a sudden : Huge nerf on condition damages in the patch note (like I said, silly example). My stuff is useless, I spend my money for nothing.
Getting information about that would not have impact economy, but at least I wouldn’t have spent that money for nothing.
Anyone got patch notes for update today?
not up as of now, I’ve been looking as well… guess I’ll keep playing my warrior for the time being hoping there will be a useful ranger update so I can go back to that…
my patch is downloading… it feels like it’s downloading over 56k… seriously…
It will come out later when Arenanet feels like giving us them

What if no nerfs to CDamage comes, but a Buff instead? Now every Thief and their cats are CDamage thieves, and CDamage GEAR becomes extremely sought-after on the TP.
See what I did there?
Or, using your example, we know CDamage is getting a nerfbat, the TP will become overpriced on gear WITHOUT CDamage…while us who are attempting to sell CDamage gear get the shaft without any knowledge of patch notes before they were posted. Then ALL CDamage drops become useless making the entire economy sink with CDamage gear sales.

My client is patching now.

Anet always takes their sweet time with patch notes. You’d think the developer would have it prepared in advance and posted the same time the patch went live.
Omg! hi demand on the patch…. downloading at 0-10 kb/sec
nice one, gonna play by sunday
As is mine, it keeps jumping up and going back down to 0.00kbs and back up to like 100, then straight back down
with over 8k files to download this is gonna take a loooooong time
hope they will make downloading the patch fater kitten 20kb sec

RoostaGW2
Noooo I was like 10% done and it dropped my connection lol
We might have melted another patch server o_o
Connection errors all over the place but I guess a lot of people are downloading so, not big surprise. xD
Glad it’s here though!
Yeah , going to watch supernatural while it’s patching =D
Chuck Noriis – Warrior
same here downloading a 0kb/sec and then connection error
This is the first time for me since headstart that servers have been down. I can wait an hour or so.
Things can change up to the release meaning information in the early patch notes could be incorrect. It might work in LoL but this ISNT LoL, big difference. Anet isnt the only company not releasing patch notes beforehand. And why would pro players need the patch notes early? If they are truly pro, they adapt.
