Tarnished Coast’s Cursed Shore has become so flooded with carpetbaggers from other servers that the entire southern half of the zone around Anchorage has become incredibly laggy, to the point where you can’t even fight properly. Animations are jerky and skills refuse to activate.

Please fix the event which is being so grossly exploited so maybe people will go home and TC natives can play in peace again.

I love it how people simply playing the game can be considered “gross” exploiters. I’m on TC and the CS has been on life support since 4/30/2013. The champ zerg has brought a few players I suppose, but it is far from its former glory as a playing area. I think the only thing needed around the CS to fix it on TC (and all other servers) would be a return to the January update state. Carpetbaggers are not the problem with the CS, it’s Anet’s attempts at making play more interesting that has emptied the zone.

How can you tell the difference between intentionally failing it and failing it because we just suck?

As linked above, it’s very easy. I remember seeing people doing the old Champion Risen Giant exploit, and they were announcing in map chat, “Go back to the stairs so the giant resets and we can continue farming!”. It looks like farmers think they are smarter than, in fact, they are.

You can’t. And not that it matters anyway, because intentionally failing is not exploiting

I remember reading the players who were banned for using the snowflake exploit claiming that salvaging an item to get ectos isn’t an exploit, so nothing would happen to them.

You can tell very easily by the crowd/zerg, there are not that many teams/groups of 5 trying to complete an event in order to progress, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist for this and is ludicrous to even think so. An exploit called by any other name is an exploit, plain and simple, but, you have the right to think so however wrong you may be. I’m sure ANET has the nerf-bat at the ready.

Failing to complete an event and intentionally failing it to continue farming champions are two very different things.

Arenanet isn’t changing events because people are “failing them,” A-net is changing them because people are intentionally failing them in order to continually spawn champions. Massive difference.

At the same time, completing an event isn’t an exploit, and neither is completing an event if people are sitting there farming champions. Completing an event has never been griefing, either.

I see these threads all over the place, if people are intentionally failing an event because the devs did not anticipate the consequences and people are getting a massive advantage (read: farming for cash faster than normal) then how can it not be an exploit? That’s just outright ’I’m ignoring the error of my ways for my own good and hope nobody notices it’. I doubt they will actually ban people for it but I’m sure as hell that next tuesday this event will be nerfed bigtime.

How can you so blatantly lie to yourself? Go look at map-chat when the boss mob spawns, everyone spams “GUYS BACK OFF” and “DON’T ATTACK”. Its intentional failing.

Intentionally failing is exploiting, its been proven in the past, people just don’t get banned for it, it would seem.

You nailed this and are spot on. Astronomical difference in just failing an event(everyone has at some point) and the INTENTIONAL failing of an event to just do it over, and over, and over, and over, and over again ad-nauseum, that even the most moronic of people can see that this just is not AS INTENDED.

Even if you do argue that people aren’t failing the event deliberately (I don’t know how you can honestly believe such a thing), logistically it just feels wrong that you are so well rewarded for failure, clearing the hardest dungeons in the game is not as rewarding as failing this one event over and over again, deliberately or not.

well then I’ll keep an eye on it and will join in fixing the zerg problem when I can. Lyssa was fixed, hopefully this will get fixed too, though the best fix would be to make it worth it to complete the whole chain I guess.
Really though a message to all the farmers – at the moment Crown Pavilion is open and I go there really often. Good drops, free magic find buff, events often and a great place to farm in. Afterwards there’s the champ trains. You don’t have to fail and event over and over when you could get the same sum by running a champ train in some specific zones. If the champ train gets interrupted by a newbie – don’t rage, if people need help with an event on that zone, do take the time to help them, that way farmers won’t have a bad name.
And if you did resort to failing an event because it’s fun I guess, then when someone runs trough and completes it, even if it is on purpose and it infuriates you, just keep cool, choose a different server to guest on. Whatever you do don’t swear your head off at the guy. For one thing you bring a bad name to farmers and that’s one of the reasons why people hate all of you, for another thing using violent language against a person is bannable.

I don’t think it could be considered an exploit, but ArenaNet has changed other events in the past that rewarded players more for failing an event than completing it. If nothing else, the fact that people are arguing over whether or not it’s a good thing to actually complete an event should be a pretty good indication.

I tried the farm last night, and through every step of the process it’s obvious that this event is not meant to be played the way it’s currently being played. I’d be surprised if anyone got banned for it (Snowcrash was farming with us and said that he was trying to relax during his off time), but enjoy it while you can, because it’s definitely not going to stick around in its current state.

Correct. Failing to complete an event is not an exploit. Many people have been unable to complete events for many reasons.

Deliberately failing an event to farm shouldn’t be categorized as an exploit, per se, but it isn’t playing the game the way it was originally intended either.

Regardless of whether you farm or not, it’s the toxicity of the players toward someone who is playing the game as intended that has become the problem. We could get into a lengthy conversation about entitlement and loot tables, but the simple fact is that [insert derogatory name] will be [repeat name] as long as they think that their right to farm is more important than someone else’s right to finish their event.

Exploit
1. to utilize, esp. for profit; turn to practical account: to exploit a business opportunity.
2. to take advantage of; promote.
3. to use selfishly for one’s own ends.
(source Webster’s dictionary)

I would say that this current farm meta falls into at least one of those three definitions, often times all three. I know the argument can be made that it is available for everyone to do therefore it is not selfish, and that holds true until the farm zerg berates people for attempting to actually play the game in a “normal” manner. Unless you want to make the case that you intentionally play to lose simply for the sake of losing, you can’t really argue for this not being exploitive.

Well now this is where connotation becomes important, and is actually what most people are arguing about without even realizing it. The word has both a positive and negative connotation to it, certainly it is not a bad thing to capitalize on a business endeavor, but if that business endeavor happens to involve ill gotten gains through a shady practice…Actually never mind I won’t turn this into a morality issue. The definition is there, it is provided by a dictionary because it gives a clear understanding of what the word means, it is the best tool we have for clearing up differences in the meanings of words.

The only hard part (b/c Anet broke the rules on Scaling this patch) is the Chan escort itself. Once it gets to the Ember stage, it’s almost impossible to Fail. I know b/c I have to beat that Stage every single day at… || ({Time Redacted} b/c we don’t want ours also getting ruined by Farmers) || …And I have to do it on a time limit. Anyone who’s decent at soloing could Solo the Champion. And killing the Cauldrons is even easier if you just climb up on the Dome where the Vista is …I actually log out my ranger up there ahead of time so I can transition instantly to downing those pots once my guardian gets Chan there in one piece

Just because something is changed doesn’t mean it’s an exploit. Anet just wanted to alter it so that the gold/loot acquisition rate is ‘normalized’ with the rest of the game. Anet has a vested interest in making sure gold is not easy to acquire.

If it was an exploit we would all be banned – just like the people who farmed Lyssa or Grubs or the Giant.

I farmed anchorage WAAAAAAY because this patch. I used to intentionally fail it so I could farm normal embers for their lodestones. I made 10g/h. Of course people back then also griefed, and they also reported me.

This deserves a suspension/temp ban whatever you like to call it. While farmers are upsetting a few..it is not their objective. Their objective is to farm.

Yes, their objective is to farm. Farm an exploit in the event system, that is. Completing an event to stop a quite obviously broken farm is not bannable in the least, if anything, it should be commended. This exploit will most likely be patched in the next little while.

If you want to cry out for someone to get banned, cry out on those exploiting the system, not the one who’s completing the event to bother them. Personally, I don’t think anyone should be banned, the event should simply be fixed.

This shouldn’t be about Tarnished Coast because the bigger issue at hand is the intentional failing of an event so champs can be farmed. This is an unintended side effect and will be considered as an exploit by ArenaNet when the dust on this settles. At the very least, it’s going to get heavily nerfed, but some of worst offenders are probably going to get banned.

I farm the hell out of this event. I make tons of gold.

But I can honestly say the people who are farming it are faaaar more likely to get banned than the people destroying cauldrons.

But it’s not related to the event. It’s related to their reaction. People kitten and whine and encourage everyone to make false reports on the ‘griefer’.

Do I dislike people like you who ruin the farm? Yeah. But my attitude is “deal with it”. I can’t do anything so what’s the point of complaining?

One guy on SoR comes on at 8 and just ruins everyone’s farm. But people keep spamming “DONOT ATTK CAULDRONS PLSSS” and cussing the guy out and verbally abusing him.

That guy is surely not going to get banned but the ensuing reactions from other farmers will get themselves banned.

And guess what? I guested on another server and went on my merry way to making 40g that night.

I think it’s perfectly within the game’s manifesto and it’s been done plenty of times before. If people want to kill a certain type of monster and can get to a greater number of them by failing a phase of an event, all the power to them. There’s nothing preventing someone who wants to complete the event from doing so aside from increased difficulty due to upscaling, and it’s been shown that a few people can effectively succeed this event even if they have only the intent to stop people from farming.

I do think that it’s too effective for the difficulty and that should be looked at, but calling for people to be banned over this is silly.
