I do it, and have garnered a bit of attention for it because I was seeing people say “Yes! We failed! Good job all!” It’s so utterly ridiculous so I complete the event now and have even gotten a bit of a small army helping.

So you had no other reason to grief a group of people than you disagreed with them.

You are not a hero and certainly no savior. But you do admit to disrupting other players game play simply because you didn’t like what they were doing and thought it was great fun and would get attention for yourself.

I believe Anet should take a hard look at people doing these things, documenting them and posting pictures of their “good deeds”. Really what I am saying is you need a few days in time out for being disruptive to a large number of players.

Maybe it would give you time to wrap your head around the fact that the world does not revolve around you and your whims.

Finishing an event is playing the game the way it was designed to be played. Intentionally not finishing an event is playing the game otherwise.

And because of the depth of the obnoxiousness of some farmers, I see nothing wrong with completing an event…playing the game the way it was meant to be played.

If it inconveniences people who want to farm…my sympathies. There are 1500 events in this game and there are tons of champions. You’re not actually preventing people from farming. You’re preventing people from farming as fast as they want to. And that shouldn’t be my problem.

I can’t wait for Anet to fix this. Players shouldn’t have to.

—cut, too long to allow reply post—

So if I read this right you are basically saying that no you don’t do temples there and you don’t know how they work. You don’t know the damage the exploit farming hoards are doing to the regular players there, and you don’t care. Your game consists of jumping from server to server looking for farming zergs and such things?

No, this doesn’t just effect one temple. If you have done temples, you would understand that we clear anchorage and the arah assault first, then we have the WP and a set amount of time to complete grenth. This closes out two temples of three, and the third is pointless to wait in the zone for that one event to start w/o the other two to do as well. Just fail, understand now?

Additionally, we often have the same people doing temples every evening. We group together. It’s actually a community in a sense. It’s not always just some random grouping with like in farm zergs or something, and groups are generally friendly there apart form someone (newbies) that freaks out in chat now and then because we failed grenth for the second time and squeezing in a third attempt before we loose the WP. This exploit garbage isn’t building a strong gaming community, like with people we group with often at CS and also with our guilds coming in there, this is just opportunists taking advantage of an exploit to get something in a lazy fashion. Yes we hope to get something, and a chance at a precurser drop from the boss chest, but this exploit has not only denied us of doing this at CS any longer, but has also disrupted out regular groups that play there.

You may have a hard time understanding this though, not meant as an insult, but hopping from server to server doesn’t sound like someone really interested in grouping with the regular player base in a high level area, often the same people. Maybe in a guild that rather do their own thing as solo players. Anet may like to promote grouping, but what is happening here is just grouping, not community. Maybe I’m just an old school mmo player, I don’t care so much for the constant random pugs all the time, and be only there to farm and then walk away.

Well, I have yet to patch, I’m hoping this was fixed today. Of course with the new chapter in the living story, CS slows down for a few days as usual. But I really hope this has been fixed today – before the regular players there just completely give up on the temples and go away for good.

Thanks for the reply. I do temples though, and not with random pugs. As a guild we will guest different servers as needed to complete events we want etc. I’m not saying it’s ideal but we don’t let anyone ruin our enjoyment. Yes I will hop servers if I am in the mood to farm. I do this so I’m not seen as griefing by interrupting those who want to complete the event. I don’t get mad and curse them out. If people are trying to complete the event I go elsewhere. I don’t think there is anything wrong with farming occasionally, or all the time if that’s your bag. I’d go insane though. I just make sure I am minimizing my impact on others.

I used to do it in other MMO’s as well. If I was farming an area and a bunch of people showed up to quest on what I was farming, I would move on.

It’s all becoming a moot point however. With the new events this patch everyone is a farmer now. I brought in more this evening than all weekend farming CS. The best thing? We’re completing events as intended. Heh.

I wonder what Zraw will do to pass the time now?

If it’s a farm, it’ll get nerfed because all farms get nerfed. They don’t want too much money coming into player hands too quickly. It’s just a matter of time, if it hasn’t happened already.

Back to what we usually do. Dungeons faster than 99.9% of other groups. Cursed Shore was just to pass the downtime.

That won’t fix your concerns.

Champs still spawn till the timer ends. Even with them despawning on fail, there are champs to kill.

Only thing that needed changed was champs to vets.

I think it would because ember spawns at the end of the anchorage assault. The event is on timer. So just despawn ember on fail. Doesn’t really need a champ there otherwise. Event active = champ spawns / Event inactive = champs despawn. Not all champs of course, just those linked to events.

Well yeah I already saw that coming and mentioned it in a previous post. The current fix was in with the living story, and just like every living story patch, cursed shore empties out for a bit. Oh heck, pretty much all of Orr becomes a ghost town during each new living story release. Exploit or not, it’d empty out. I was there tonight doing some personal story prep with an alt to do Arah SM with some guildies later, and all WP’s were contested and none but node runners there all night.

How about you break from your normal pattern of not reading the thread before replying and actually read the thread. Then you can better decide what the issue is and the depth of the obnoxiousness those involved.

Huge flaw in game design when purposefully failing an event in order to farm is vastly more rewarding than completing it. I view the Ember farm as exploiting a flaw in the game, and the exploitation of this has already had an impact on the in game economy.

The truth of the matter is that events are meant to be completed. Any player trying to complete the event, whether they are trolling you or not, is playing the event and the game as designed and intended by the developers. Getting upset about it and resorting to verbal abuse is only going to result in you getting a ban from Anet.

To expand upon this further, verbally abusing other players for trying to complete the event is only going to invite people to come and ruin your fun more often. You are basically asking for it, because not only are you providing fuel for those who like to troll, you provide fuel for people who had no intention of trolling you to do so due to the verbal abuse.

Case in point…. we were at a farm spot and a guild member of mine, and respected WvW commander joked about killing the cauldrons. He didn’t even touch them and was verbally assaulted in map chat and in whispers. This is someone who leads the server nightly… and it sure didn’t stop the nerd rage over nothing. When I say nerd rage, I mean seriously nasty stuff. Comments made towards him that would get you knocked the kitten out in the street if you said them to a random person.

The end result of this treatment towards him? Myself and others who were there to farm the event started trolling it instead. Killed the cauldrons, then followed the people that got nasty with him to the servers they guested to in order to do it to them again. We kept doing it until we got bored with and/or those people gave up trying.

Vicious cycle that leads to more nasty comments and more people trolling …..

Get enough people and you can get 3 ember champs to spawn continuous below both cauldrons.

This is why it was a popular farm. Did not need the boss, no one cared about the ember boss just dont break the cauldrons, and the ember champs spawned while the event was active.

Since the champs are still there for the whole timer, then I do not see how them despawning upon failure to complete the event will fix anything. That is what you suggested in my first response to you.

They will still be there for the duration of the timer.

So, how does champs despawning upon failure fix the problem since they will continue to spawn for farming until the timer reaches 0, which is when the event actually fails.
