Just here to say I liked the old Dailys best.
After this update went live I’ve done less than 10 dailies and I play almost every day.
The new ones are boring, annoying (looking at you daily profession win) and plain weird, like the Ascalon Vista.

The motto behind dailies was “You should be able to complete your dailies by just playing the game your own way”. This is not the actual case.

And I’m just popping in to say that I’ve stopped doing the daily events.

The annoyances that come with struggling to do dailies in low level areas on my level 80 chars have killed the enjoyment I used to have with doing daily events.

1) the zergs. The thrice cursed zergs caused by this daily. All those people struggling to reach the events and tag mobs before it ends for events never designed to handle such crowds.
2) People getting into arguments in map chat about others not pinging waypoints or expressing their dislike of the event daily or complaining about not being able to get to events before they are over. It really sours the mood for me to see all these unhappy people all around me.
3) For the first time, I’m not happy to see others running to the same event I’m running to. They are now competitors for the few, fragile mobs that each event spawns.
4) before I stopped doing the daily event, I started waypointing to an event, getting a tag, waypointing to next event, tagging, until I got 4 events tagged and got my daily. Then I got the hell out of the map because I couldn’t stand to be there any longer. It wasn’t the way I wanted to play but what I was doing to minimize my frustration with this game design. Then one day I just said, kitten it, it’s not worth it and stopped completely.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Yeah, I was really put off by the Fractal Double Feature again. I almost didn’t do my daily. Almost.

My friend was on, so we hit a borderland for Ruin and Dolyak. The hard part was finding a dolyak to murder on a borderland my server was pwning. =P
We got run over by a mini-zerg (5v2, and we still almost killed a few), which wasn’t fun, but I laughed it off, found a camp with dolyaks on it, slapped them around, and got daily credit. I even remembered to use those cute little WXP consumables I keep getting from the NPE.

Buuut, still wasn’t actually fun, so it’s still a problem. :\

At the end of the day, the daily changes have changed how I play most days. I used to get on, run around for up to an hour, doing events, leveling a character, gathering stuff, and in the process getting my dailies done. Now, I jump into WvW for just long enough to cap a ruin, kill a gaurd, cap 2 camps or kill a dolyak. If I don’t get all 3 tasks done there, I can usually get 2, then I hit four nodes in the featured region, then log off. Yesterday, I played for a grand total of ten minutes.

New dailies have certainly thrust me back into WvW after a long absence. However, the major design issues that fueled my departure from WvW back in 2012 still exist, and lengthy play sessions there are rarely fun as a result. It feels to me as if the new dailies, with the revised design intent of “enticing players into content they’ve been ignoring” did nothing to remedy the issues that caused people to not want to engage with that content in the first place.

This, right here. The previous system had some gently guided play, but overall, I could pick a character to level or a goal to chase, and get those dailies along with what I was doing. Now.. not so much. Sure, I’m getting some nice chest rewards for the effort (unless it’s zone events…) and twice the AP I used to, but it isn’t fun because my PvE experience is so restricted.

So I returned to the game when HoT was announced. I had left before the new daily system came in. There are definitely some cool pros to the new system however I find that once 3 dailies are complete and you get the 10 ap completion bonus I am left with little motivation to complete the rest. This was something I really liked doing before as the extra ap was worth it and it gave me something to do.

My suggestion is add an additional 5-10ap bonus for completing everything on the daily list. This would keep the motivation going for longer than the 5m it takes to do 1 pvp game to finish 3 daily categories….

I recently logged back in and I have to agree with most of the people here, fractals should never be part of the daily experience unless you are going to give us more open world stuff to do to complete.

Limiting the choices to 4 and have 2 fractals on the list like yesterday just isn’t compelling sorry.

I’d suggest increasing the number of PVE choices to 6 or 8 or leaving instances out of it entirely.

So.

The wiki tells us dailies aren’t random, but there’s a list of fixed dailies that rotate: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Daily/Table

So, why the heck do double fractal dailies exist??

Today is double fractal, and there are queues for every single borderlands, plus eb… so I just logged off, and will go play another game. Good job, anet -_-

I was leveling in Wayfarer’s Foorhills today, not realizing it was part of the daily rotation. (I had already done the dailies and the list wasn’t up on the side). I found out by being swarmed by players when an escort event came up. I barely got bronze on that and I had to try very hard. I just wasn’t quick enough to get a hit on mobs before they were melted down.

I am cool with trying to herd people into different zones, but please spread it out. Give us a region, not a specific map. For actual players at an appropriate level – it’s not much fun having your events being appropriated by the big kids all the time.

The only person that is suffering from the new dailies are the ones that do not want to try something new, which saddens me a lot.

That is patently not true. Don’t assume that everyone that dislikes pvp does that only because they didn’t play it yet. Quite often it’s the opposite – they dislike the game mode because they already know it all too well. I know it;s like that in my case, for example – the daylies show me nothing new, but they are showing me many things i strongly dislike.

you know, i thought I was resigned to this mess. but I'm not. I'll be perfectly honest. if new expansion costs money to buy? (which it probably will) I will not be buying as long as this current system of dailies persists. especially now that those tasks are throw in my face every time I log in, because i cannot even accept log in reward without clicking ok on that list.

My personal feedback.
Before the update I was playing normally and at some point around midnight was stopping everything to be sure to finish the daily.
Now I log in to get the reward and see what is proposed to get some more and decide if I will do it or not. On top of that if there are daily fractals it motivates me and my guildies to play Fractals because else we stick to our lazy behaviour of doing a simple dungeon.
In the end I’m happy with the new dailies since I know I’ll get a reward by just starting the game but on the other hand my AP are growing much slower. This last thing actually gave me some motivation to finish some achievement that I never cared to finish… which is also a good thing for me.

I like the newer system although the shortage of coins is now beginning to seep through the market. I also find that I’m finishing the PvP ones rather than PvE or WvW. I do have at least one of each AT so that’s working for me each day.

The personalised rotation is nice with the rewards being upfront for logging in and more for doing specific tasks. Made more progress in WvW ranking with the liquid wxp and PvP reward tracks with all the liquid reward potions. It feels better to finish than before with less pressure to find 5 things to do.

First of all I am sorry if this topic already has been discussed.

I haven’t been playing for a few months and I recently started checking out the game again. I saw that the dailies have been changed, but for me it hasn’t been improved. Before you could play the game almost without thinking about the dailies and you would still earn them. Now you have to think about what you have to do. Granted, you only have to earn 3 to get the daily meta now, but still. You are almost forced to enter PvP or WvW in order to get the meta.

For example if I create a level 1 Norn and I don’t like to do PvP or WvW (which I don’t) and the daily achievements for PvE are to for example gather lumber in Ascalon, kill the Fire Elemental in Metrica Province and some other things which are out of reach for a low level Norn. Then I have to either log on to my max level character to get the achievements or enter PvP or WvW. I really really do not like that and I also think about the people who just got the game and have no high level character to get the achievements and don’t like PvP or WvW like me.

I do like the log-in rewards though. That’s a nice touch. I just wish they would do something about the dailies so it’s available for low level and people who want to do PvE instead or PvP and WvW.

Someone who has no max level character won’t be given a level 80 daily to do. It’s based on the highest character on the account. Also you don’t have to do the dailies, any of them (I’m a bit hypocritical on that, as I’ve done them every day without fail since the change, except for last night when I could have sworn I’d done them the night before and logged in 10 minutes before reset to find out I hadn’t, oy vey). You get the rewards for logging in, and a few bennies in the daily reward chests along with 10 ap if you do 3 dailies.

For a much lengthier and more detailed discussion, you may want to look at

I am aware that you don’t have to do the dailies, but it’s there and I want to do it. It’s the same with reputation grinding in World of Warcraft. I don’t have to do it, but since it’s there I want to do it. I did not know that the dailies were scaled to the highest character on the account though. Also I was pretty sure that there was another thread about this subject. I just didn’t find it. But I still think it would be better if dailies were not scaled to the highest level character.

Eh, I am pretty neutral when it comes to the dailies.
Getting a loyalty reward for just logging in is cool, and I very rarely find myself going /too/ far out of my way to get the 3 activities done to get the 10 APs.
My only issue is how some dailies promotes certain activities and events which cause a severe amount of over-saturation of players at an event or on a map. That being said, it is a minor quibble for me at best… This is a game that is best played with others, after all.

Really… the only thing that confuses me about all this is how people insist on doing something they don’t like.

With the new format you get all the old rewards just by logging in, you get loads of extra rewards including fractal relics, experience boosts, crafting materials by finishing the actual dailies AND you get way more achievement points at a very small fraction of the time you’d need with the old system. Getting the 10 AP with the new system takes considerably less time than getting the 10/12 AP with the old one.

Players without a high level character need to complete less achievements to get the 10 AP daily. New players don’t have to do 3 achievements to earn their points, so in a way they have it easier.

So really as far as rewards go, with the new system you get them faster and without even trying.

At first it bothered me. I like my AP and it was easy to play whatever I want and get my daily AP and monthly was easy too. So I have over 10,000AP. Then the change. No, I can’t remember the last time I got AP for daily. I refuse to be HERDED by ANet into the content I don’t like. This is MY time, not theirs.

And remember, they nerfed the kitten out of AP chests too, so you’re not missing ANYTHING if you don’t get any.

TL;DR: Get your login reward and then do what you want; ignore the daily, and be happy when you play. It’s not worth struggling to get some points that are really meaningless unless you’re on the leaderboards.

My biggest problem with the dailies is how specific they are. I think Ascalon lumberer or Kryta vista viewer are perfect. These can be completed in any of the Ascalon/Krytan zones. What really annoys are the event completer and boss achievements. Why can’t they be more open? I can rarely get the boss one done because you have to be on at a specific time to fight it, and the event completion can be a pain when everyone is trying to complete it, particularly in low level areas.

I’d prefer it if it were more like kill any world boss or complete any four events in Shiverpeaks and so on. Give us a little bit more leeway. Instead, I find myself jumping into WvW simply because it’s my only other option.

I had to do three achievements to get the 10 points on my new account, starting from level 1. And when you have a brand new account, you start out with just one option from each category, so you have even fewer choices to pick from but still have to do three to “finish”.

Daily rewards are by and large replaced by login rewards. So it is definitely possible to ignore dailies and get them anyways. AP chests are crap so by and large it’s not that relevant.

However, I do believe many of the dailies are too specific. I think for example event completer should be region based, for example. They could also add a single universal daily, such as recycler. There is certaintly a disparity as wvw/pvp dailies are more generalized with the exception of profession pvp dailies or that veteran slayer one in wvw— those are kinda crappy.

10 Achievement points? Great it’ll only take me 4 months to get 1k points!

Writs of experience are pointless, crap PvP rewards; just why? Chest of Lumber/Ore… you gotta be kidding me right?

The only good reward is from the World Boss.

I DO REALLY like the Login rewards, but right now there is absolutely no incentive for most players to do the Daily Quests themselves.

After playing around with the dalies for a while now the ones I’d like to see changed are event completer and WvW veteran slayer. Event completer just makes it so it’s much more stressful doing events in specific maps since it usually devolves into annoying Zerg tag spams and events bugging because of the mad amount of people spamming. WvW Veteran Slayer serves no benefit for the server and can actually be detrimental when randoms start spamming the wurm when you’re trying to attack Bay quietly. A suggestion would be to change Event Completer to be over the whole section of the world it corresponds to like it used to be and change veteran slayer to a specific defense location like tower, keep, or camp.

Well, I have been away from the game (and the forum) for quite a while because of changes Anet made a while back that I felt were unnecessarily and intentionally screwing over some of their regular players in a misguided attempt to force people into playing other parts of the game that they may or may not chosen to do otherwise.

I already know that not all players share this feeling, and that is fine, not saying you should. However, I feel that Anet needs to be aware of the situation, my proposed solution for it, and why I am disappointed that they still have not done anything about it.

Now, if you want to receive ANY achievement points for doing any daily items at all, you need to fully complete the entire quota for the achievement. The problem is that previously to the “improvement” when this happened, if you did some daily and/or monthly achievements, but it wasn’t enough to get the reward for that particular full reward, you at least got SOME achievement points for what you DID decide to do. I do not care to try to see if the monthly is this way still or not, due to the daily achievement still being messed up. Now, for you to get ANY achievement points for the daily (I presume the monthly is the same, I cannot be bothered to try to find out that is screwed over as well) , you have to complete the entire thing.

You want to say, well you have to do less now. OK, fair enough, but you still HAVE to do all of it to get ANY points at all. You can no longer choose to do one or two things because you want to and get any achievement points at all. And THAT is what is F-ing over many players who for whatever reason, CHOOSE to not do all of the dailies needed to get the full achievement.

I am fine not getting every single achievement point I can every day, but at least I was able to get something before. Now, even that is not a choice that I made, but a choice that was made for me by Anet, who it seems wants to decide for me how I should want to play.

My recommended solution at the time, and still now is to allow some points for the people who only do some of the dailies. Let THEM decide if they want to do them all or not without getting F-ed over because they didn’t want to do all of them. It doesn’t screw over the people who do all of them, and more importantly, it doesn’t screw over the people who don’t. Let them get 1 achievement point for each item they do, and for any once they complete the daily achievement. You can still award the 10 for 3, and have the ones that are done apply towards the 10.

I am not going to rage quit totally as I have spent money to purchase this game. However, I did not waste my money on the latest thorn update, and it does not look likely I will ever do so, because of how Anet handled this situation. Even if they do actually fix this problem at some point in the future, my attitude towards Anet has probably been permanently soured because of this.

Achievement points don’t really do anything beyond serving as a very basic shorthand for how much experience you have, and earning you a reward chest once in a blue moon, though?

I fully agree with you, but your plea will fall on deaf ears.

The daily system I am rather on the fence on. In essence I actually prefer the new system, however, many of the even more casual members of my group barely play anymore because they enjoyed the daily/monthly system that existed o much more. It’s not even the achievements points or the rewards they want, they just enjoyed them for how they were.

To be honest I doubt any further changes will be made. The daily system has been changed 3-4 times since launch and I’m not sure if they’d find it fruitful to keep putting resources into changing it again, knowing they can never please everyone and it is such a small thing in the grand scheme of the game.

I think you’re missing the point a bit on the daily achievements, and this has really been talked to death already…but you only have to do a total of 3 from all the choices to get the daily 10 AP…that’s a minimum of 1 from each, or 2 +1 or all 3 from one. It’s not going to be changed back to the way it was, this is an improvement, you can either do 3 and get 10 points, or not and get nothing for that day…it won’t hurt you…and there is no more monthly achievement to attain. There are only dailies now…the monthly achievement is completely gone.

I get you. After they changed it I couldn’t unlock another achievement chest for ages, just because I didn’t want to do PvP. I kind of feel bad for people who have very limited time and struggle to get what they want. Let’s be honest, PvE dailies are really unpleasant to do. (Does anyone actually enjoy these “complete 4 events in this specific area” quests?) It kind of messes with new players trying to complete these as well, limiting their options to PvP and WvW which they might dislike.
I’m not sure why was the system changed in the first place.

I don’t understand this… even if you don’t like PVP, you can complete the PVE events quite easily. The only time I get an unfinished daily is when it’s a double fractal reward day. Otherwise, there isn’t a reason someone focused on PVE can’t complete the daily.

I would prefer this, too, but Anet chose to make the changes because of the achievement hunters that hated getting 1 AP for each daily done.

What I don’t understand, is why only the achievement hunters were taken into account on the change.

I’m pretty much going along for the ride.
As much as I would like to dictate how this game should be developed, I am a player and not a developer.

Sometimes I am the happiest player in the world, and other times I feel like Anet does things to personally screw me over.

The bottom line is, I can’t control what Anet does to Guild Wars 2, so I don’t let it bother me too often, and when it does bother me, I have quit the game for a bit.

Nobody wants to “play” a game that isn’t fun, and as much as you want to keep playing because you have so much time and effort invested, sometimes the best thing for your GW2 career is to just take a break for a while.

Everyone hates hearing that, because that don’t want to admit that Guild Wars 2 has become a stale game after being out for roughly three years, and there aren’t any worthwhile things left to do… but it is the truth.

In my case, Guild Wars 2 has been dull for quite some time now.

I have beyond conquered all the content available in the game, and all that remains for me is a list of chores I can complete for AP.

If I really wanted to, I could grind out kills with warhorn and shield, or slay giants every day, or costume brawl, etc…. but is that really fun?

No. Not to me at least.

and instead of getting new content, we get tweaks to appeal to casual players.

GW2 isn’t made for hardcore players like me who want to play every single day for hours on end, and as much as I love the game, it truly does cater to casual players.

This was Anet’s decision, the model they went with at launch, and all I can do about it is take a break from the game when things get especially dull, and hope to come back later when there are things to do that are worthwhile.

Any changes Anet makes to Guild Wars 2 that impact me negatively are taken with a grain of salt, because ultimately if things got so bad that I didn’t want to play anymore, I can let go and quit.

It took me a long time to admit this to myself, that Guild Wars 2 is just an “okay” game on my list, after living and breathing Guild Wars 1 for several years as a hardcore player.

I can only hope that Anet realizes they are seriously neglecting their hardcore playerbase which are the ones that played Guild Wars for years, supported the franchise, and are the ones that even made a sequel possible.

It just seems that Anet is driven more by money now than their playerbase’s happiness.

We see five fold more new outfits and toys in the gemstore than we will ever see new endgame content.

Hardcore players desperately want more challenging and repeatable content that rewards players based on their skill level and how well they perform.
…and we want fewer reward tables that are completely ruled by RNG.

…so we can keep playing, and continue earning gold while we play, and our time is well-spent.

But Anet has a different plan…
The most prestigious gear you can buy in the game can be in your hand in seconds if you whip out your credit card and pay.

Casual players don’t have the money to afford a legendary weapon, but they don’t want to feel left out… so they open their wallets.

What you might not realize is that after you do your daily dungeon paths, and your fotm tiers, (even guild missions once a week), you are scraping the bottom of the barrel of rewarding content to grind.

No matter how hard you grind, your income is gated. Turn the game off and play again tomorrow to make more money, otherwise you are wasting your time.

They are keeping us poor with the gating to keep us playing for fewer hours a day, but more days of the year… and we are always tempted to buy gold from the gemstore… (even if it is nothing more than a temptation.)

You are forced into being a casual player in Guild Wars 2.
…and I’m pretty sure Anet knows that not all of us want to be casuals, but they turn a blind eye as long as they are making money.

This is not what I thought I was getting into when I purchased a sequel to my favorite game, and I hope they realize that many of us are unhappy about it.

This is just the tip of one of many icebergs when it comes to how I feel about this situation, and the direction Anet chooses to go with Guild Wars 2.

TL;DR

I share the sentiment with the OP about Anet frequently making changes to the game I am unhappy with, and I hate that I loved Guild Wars 1 so much that I feel like a prisoner to the new Arenanet and Guild Wars 2… but it is important to know you aren’t literally a prisoner, and you need to know when you should take a break from the game for a while. Sometimes things just take a while to get used to…. other times you just need to wait for things to blow over.

Anet wants us to be casual players, so why fight against it?

We are playing their game, so just go along with the ride, or play a different one.
