If anything they should move this in under the instrument slider.
As a counter point, I get very annoyed by hearing “I could outrun a centaur” all the time in the same setting. I don’t see this as any different than the other repetitive phrases I constantly hear.
If anything they should move this in under the instrument slider.
This.
Not sure why it isn’t already?
If anything they should move this in under the instrument slider.
That would kill all instruments in the game.
Who approved putting such a backpack in the first place I’m wondering… did you not see this in advance? srsly?

I don’t know why it was added, personally I have the instruments turn off completely because I never liked them. I would put them in with this thing because to me they are both unnecessary. However I do understand people like the instruments. I just don’t happen to be one of them.
I’m tired of hearing “for great justice!” all the time. Can you imagine a whole group doing it at once? Its so annoying. I should have to turn off dialog to not hear it.
I like this Job-O-Tron. I want my 500 gems refunded if it gets nerfed

Sticking it into the instruments category works for me.
I’m sorry… To be honest I was in wvw when I saw this beautiful back piece, and then when we stopped for a bio break I bought it. Then equipped it, loved it, and will continue to use it…
Moral of the story…

Most normal human beings after a while tune certain things out that they repetitively hear over and over again…so it would be with this, regardless of the volume. You’ve heard of the saying ‘one ear and out the other’, it doesn’t just apply to ignoring people, it also applies to the human brains ability to tune out repetitive sounds.
I’m tired of hearing “for great justice!” all the time. Can you imagine a whole group doing it at once? Its so annoying. I should have to turn off dialog to not hear it.
How can you be so cruel? Grape Justice sacrificed his life for Tyria. The least we can do is honor him as we wade into the field of battle.
Fort Aspenwood
“Oil down.” “Mortar down.” “Stupid arrow cart.”
Characters of every race keep saying repetitive dialogues in the game………Stop fussing over small things…..Learn to focus. Anyway the novelty will wear off soon and few people will use it

Oh “shake it off!”
Your—grawl—impression—is—really—coming—along.
The second I saw the announcement for this item on the GW2 website that was immediate thought. Who on earth thought it would be a good idea to insert an item that has repetitive phrases that people don’t really have a way of escaping.
I’m not turning the dialogue slider down, I love the in game dialogue, it’s too quiet as it is and I want to be able to hear what NPC’s are saying. I don’t want to be forced to hear some stupid backpack talking.
They need a big table in the options to toggle certain sound effects and voiceovers on/off. In other games you can do this by replacing or deleting the offending .mp3 files. But since GW2 puts everything into one humungous 20GB file you can’t do that.
I think it’s a fun addition to the game and i’ll be honest,i never saw someone wearing it.
Some things will always be annoying for some ppl and some won’t…
“We are now! We are forever!”
Talking golem? Just another reason to perform Asura genocide.
Back to a serious note. I find my sense of immersion ruined by Quaggan backpacks, talking backpacks and quite a few other eye/ear candy. However, I look at them as necessary evils. Selling these items supports the game. So, I have little choice but to accept and ignore them. I find I can ignore the visuals easily enough. I play with my headphones hung on the edge of the desk. Can’t hear a thing. Though I might prefer to hear the music, extended play with the phones on gives a headache and I’d rather do without the sound than do with the pain.
i want this to be added to the player instrument .. is annoying and some players purposely harass other with this … i mean just say in game that you don’t like this backpack and you become a magnet to everyone with this backback .. they all stand by you and try do stuff to make the Annoy-o-Tron talk to annoy you
People are annoyed by everything, so my hint to these people would be to keep calm and go to sleep, you will find nothing that annoys you about others while you sleep.
Stop focusing on other people and stop blaming others when you fail. Really, I have heard people couldn’t concentrate because something was written in chat at the moment or because a mini pet was walking behind someone. WTF?!
I have to say, moving this item’s sounds to something that can be user adjustable would be a good idea. After a couple of hours of being on the receiving end of this, it does begin to grade on me. Waiting to encounter a troll group of players with this equipped.

^this. “I wiped because i find your mini jack-a-lop insulting to my eyes and/or religion”
I find talking backpack cute. Whoever wants to wear it, go ahead.
I’d like to call it the “Grief-o-Tron.”
Selling pitch: " Hey… Do you like griefing? Well, son, you’ve come to the right place!!! You too can be the kitten-hole of your group! That’s right! Buy one of these and immediately start Griefing your own community TODAY!"
And for those of you who think this thread and others like it are not warranted… there is a reason why Anet created the “player instrument slider” – to keep people from hearing unwanted “noise” if the player hearing the noise didn’t want to. Not everyone that buys this thing is a griefer, but just by reading some of the above comments, this can be (and is) used as a griefing tool.
Anet, can we please have a sound slider to deal with this? (Preferably, exclusively, but I’d go for throwing it into the player instrument slider as opposed to the dialog volume slider which it is a part of today.)
I don’t think that’s too much to ask.
Just put it under the instrument slider. Everyone’s happy that way.
I turned the dialogue off completely because I got sick of hearing my character (and everyone elses) saying the same things all the time. That silences this backpack too.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Honestly I’d prefer if they just made it so only the OWNER of the backpack actually hears it talk. I don’t want to turn off instruments, there are some awesome songs you’ll occasionally hear in the cities.
But I don’t want to hear the backpack.

Its not an instrument. You cant play silly melodies with it. It only says one sentence every 30 seconds. Deal with it.

No, that would make the messages he say when you rezz someone less amusing.
Yeah, but here’s the thing… the owner would still hear it. And he’s the one who bought it. If the rest of us really want to hear it then we can buy one ourselves. Some people though don’t WANT to hear it.

You know, I’m starting to think that Open World PVP wouldn’t be such a bad idea.

You cant grief with this. Its limited to one line per 30 seconds and selected by the game. Its not any more annoying than hearing “For greater justice!”. So I am highly amused by people complaining about it. Makes the 500 gems well spent.

The above is proven wrong by the below. If you are buying something not because you enjoy it for yourself but, as you have admitted in this thread, so that you can force it upon others who do not wish it, and then admit that you consider spending money/gems in order to cause others displeasure to be a good thing then you have proven that it can be used to grief and that you either are or intend to do so yourself.
I am highly amused by people complaining about it. Makes the 500 gems well spent.
With that logic you can grief with anything in the game. Some people are annoyed by quaggan backpacks. Some from legendary effects. Some from miniatures. You can probably apply it to anything.

Someone who buys a backpack because they like how their character looks with it on is very different than someone who buys and uses something for the admitted purpose (at least in part) of imposing it on those who dislike it and who then opposes suggestions that would allow him to keep the thing he likes without imposing it on others.

You can grief with it because the player’s actions cause it to say certain things. Taken from the wiki:
If you cast swiftness, it says one of the following:
“Faster. Faster!”
“Turbo—mode—engaged!”
“You—can’t—catch—us!”
Bottom line, I don’t want to hear that kitten. But I don’t mind hearing other NPC conversation dialog. I want a volume slider to turn this back pack, like player instrument volume, off.
But hey, if we’re going to grief, kitten-it, let’s do it right – Open World PVP!
I’d like to call it the “Grief-o-Tron.”
You have no idea what grief is, do you?
It’s really freaking annoying. Give it an option to turn it off.
Place it under a new category – annoying as kitten sounds slider – along with the pop guns.
What’s the point of the back if you can’t use it to force your own brand of robo-dialogue on others? You’ll listen to Job-o-Tron and like it!
I was considering the Job-o-Tron for my Asuran Engineer, but unfortunately it continues in the great GW2 tradition of backpacks being woefully teeny-tiny on characters of that race. It looks like he has an ostrich egg on his back. No sale (on any backpacks for my Asuran characters) until such time as I no longer need a magnifying glass to see if he’s wearing it.
And yes, it would be best if Job-o-Tron were only audible to the player wearing it.
Set a man on fire, and he’ll be warm the rest of his life.

You realise characters say things anyway when they get swiftness (or any other boon or condition)? What makes this any different from “I could outrun a centaur”?

As a hearing impaired person, volume is irrelevant to me. However, the difference between the two things mentioned in the thread is: one is visible text, the other isn’t. Even as just visible text the talking backpack has become quite annoying.
Someone was continuously jumping a the bank in LA so yep, I do feel as though the sound should just be made for the owners client only. It is pretty irritating now. I thought it was pretty comical at first but the novelty wore off. A way of muting it should be brought in.

I usually just adjust the camera and zoom in when I play my Asura.

This. He says this WAY too often relative to his other lines. I’d be happy if the only change they made was to nerf the hell out of(or remove entirely…) this one freaking line.

Annoying as kitten
Can you please add this sound to instrument option?

Perfectly agree I love my backpack, but I cringe everytime I hear this line. As for the main topic, I made my point earlier. This backpiece is no different than the normal sayings the races say. In particular I hear “I can outrun a centaur” so much it gets on my nerves.
