You obviously can’t read. The exotic doesn’t have half of those stats on it. Try again, this time without droning and rationalizing bad game design.

It’s been said before but yeah, nothing cute about the sudden inexplicable shift to an SOP gear ladder game. I’ll probably stick around playing, but it seems pretty crappy to put it lightly. So much for GW2 being “different”.

I know I am! And so are my friends who have gotten very board with Guild Wars 2 over the past few weeks!

For us our endgame has turned into nothing but Farming Orr for our legendary’s but now we have something new to work forward to AND a new area/dungeon to explore!

I have seen a lot of the knee jerk reactions posts of how much people can’t stand change so this thread is for people who are truly happy with the upcoming content and changes!

Thank You ArenaNet!!

So what do you do after you get the Ascended gear? Most hardcore players would have done it in a few weeks time (or even days) like they did to legendaries. Perhaps it takes 1-2 months for regular players. What’s next? Get bored again, quit the game, and wait for the next gear? Rinse and repeat.

The added dungeon is nice but Anet is so desperate to maintain the longevity of the game, they have to incorporate gear treadmill into it. This is a lazy attempt by the developers where they are incapable to add contents with high re-playability value …. you know the actual contents that are engaging, interesting and challenging where people would do it without being swayed with rewards at the end. Think of why people play FPS, RTS, etc over and over again with the same maps yet they play these games for years.

This fact is born from the overwhelming data-pool of

*O* *N* *E* *RING*.

K, I see why we all have to panic now.

ONE ring to rule them all
and in the darkness
bind them

Seriously now,

I think the worst is the "there’s a lot of room for item progression" talk.... i mean it’s either unfortunate communications or they really did push the ’kitten it’ button on their whole "core" philosophy for the game.

Give me game. Not grind, not gating, not RNG, not +stat junk, not checklists.

To sum up people’s concerns as “knee-jerk reactions”, because they “can’t stand change” is not only monumentally wrong, it’s extremely insulting.

vysaek.8290 – you must have missed where i also said “from what I read on the blog post this is what it looks like”

There is information out there, and the information doesn’t look promising. Hey at the end of the day its a FTP game that I enjoy playing with the family. One of the reasons we decided to play it was no gear progression. if that changes and gear progression becomes the norm, we will just find another game, or something else to do.

No one is “raging” stating an opposing opinion is just that, stating an opposing opinion. Sitting back and not saying anything, considering we enjoy playing, would accomplish nothing.

But again your wrong, I have tried this system in LOTRO, its basically the EXACT SAME SYSTEM they tried with radiance gear. Furthermore, as you can see the links others have posted it is clearly stated that this is just the beginning.

Are we really arguing about facts now? Anet releases a blog that clearly states this is just the beginning of all of this, how much more information does one need to form an opinion? This was a game that was supposed to have no gear progression, that is what they said and part of why we bought the game. Now they are doing something different.

pretty sure I have all the information I need, but I’m willing to see what the Dev’s say. Maybe they change their mind (probably not), maybe they change how it’s implemented (probably not). That’s why I’m waiting to see what they say, maybe they have a change of heart (again probably not)…but I like the game enough to give them a chance.

“how much more information does one need to form an opinion?”

All of it.

The bottom line is you are going to like this system no matter what they say, while some of us have been playing these games (MMO’s) for years and know where this is headed based on their own blog post, and have played systems like this in the past.

if you really don’t see it, and really don’t see a philosophy switch (just based on their quotes about the game before release and what their blog post from yesterday says)…then how can we (you and I) have a real discussion about it when you refuse to acknowledge something that is plain to see for everyone else that is the basic starting point of the discussion?

Dont misunderstand me, please.

I know and i understand what you are saying, what you are trying to tell me.

I have my own opinion about the matter.

I do WvW, dungueons and PvE. I have nearly full exotics and they have the look i wanted to give them. New content? new equipement? Lets give it a try and then i will make up my mind about the thing, if i like or not. Until then i will stay neutral.

I didnt bought the game because of the gear, i bought it because of the PvE mechanic, WvW, Lore of the 5 main races, Dragons and such. Playing i have seen things, i know they are there but i dont know HOW to do them (Ej: Isgarren). I have had a taste of the lore of Kodan, i have travelled through the sky fighting dragons, i have helped my team going through traps in dungueons with the mesmer and so much more.

So, from my point of view Gw2 is a whole, not only the gear progression. I played FFXI back then when only had 3 years of live, i know the meaning of grinding, gear progresion and hardcore gaming.

This, so far has nothing to do with it.

But, that is my point of view, you have yours. Every single of you looks the game on a different way, and NONE of us has the right to say what is good, or what is bad. We can give our opinion, but we can demand nothing to Anet and get angry to a company because every single one of us finds something we dont like. It’s THEYR game, we are playing it.

That is what i am saying.

I understand you, i am not trying to convice you. I am just saying, we cant jugde a whole, by a tiny bit of it. That is all.

You can add meaningful content and progression without the need for “gear” or a “gear progression system”. GW1 did it very well.

Gear does not = progression

I’m going to say something, and again no reflection on you or anything as you might not even be in this group, but companies can sometimes cater to people who zoom through content so fast they run out of stuff to do.

The minute a game company starts changing the core for what their game is for these folks, they lose almost everyone else. I’ve seen it before in other games as there is just no pleasing them. They will burn through content faster than you can make it, then complain about progression or having nothing to do.

I’m not saying that is what they are doing here, they may actually think this is a good idea. I’m just saying I’ve seen other companies do this to accommodate a certain piece of the audience, and it always ends up badly.

Ascended:
+50 power +18 Power
+50Precision +18 Precision
+10% Magic Find

Exotic:
+48 power +15 Power
+48 Precision +15 Precision
+7% Magic Find

That’s a TOTAL increase of +5 power, + 5 precision, and +3% magic find.

Combat stats in the ascended piece are 8% higher and Magic Find is 42% higher. And that’s without counting the new “infusion” slot, or the likelihood of a gem / rune slot being added to the ascended piece in the future (which I would say is very high).

Even if we assume Magic Find is irrelevant (which it isn’t, unless you think getting 42% more rare drops has no influence on your purchasing power), that’s an 8% power increase, clearly contradicting their fundamental design principles and pre-sale promises. After the game has been out for 3 months.

Unused Infusion slot which ONLY gives you a defensive stat which is ONLY useful against the fear condition which ONLY appears in the high-end levels of the enw dungeon

WRONG and L2R

Quote from official page: “There are multiple types of Infusions and Infusion slots. In November, we’ll introduce Offensive, Defensive, and Omni Infusions of Fine rarity from new Mystic Forge recipes. Infusion upgrade types must be paired with their like slot, with the exception of the rare and versatile Omni Infusions which can be slotted into any type of Infusion slot.”

And no its not “fear” condition, its Agony. Quote from official page: “Ascended gear has Infusion slots, and rarer versions of the items also come with additional Agony Resistance built into them.”
Agony – “This extremely dangerous condition ticks percentages of player health away and can’t be cleansed by normal means. Players who wish to delve deep into the Fractals will find that Agony makes progress increasingly difficult, until they reach the point where some defense against this condition is a must. The only way to mitigate Agony damage is by building up resistance through Infusions”

Good luck playing the new contents with your current exotics.

It says delve deep. I’m guessing you can play in your “exotics” for at least a few rounds before agony even becomes an issues.

I just enjoy reading all the whining that is never ending on these forums. Introduce anything and it’s whine whine whine.

A 2min cut scene I won’t get to WHINE see WHINE.

You people act like you aren’t going to do the new dungeons anyways. You guys don’t even know how to aquire it. Is it drops? Is it rewards? What.

Whine Whine Whine.

I guarantee the next WHINING will be about the new way to get the precursors via scavenger hunt. All those whiners will be people who had to do it the “hard” way and invested blah blah and blah blah blah.

Take a deep breath, calm down. Your exotics are not worthless. Your exotics did not take all that much effort to get in the first place, and it won’t take much effort at all to get this new piece. And this new piece ONLY provides a meaningful upgrade if you plan on playing the HIGHEST END content of ONE dungeon.

The problem is not just the stats but that you need to get this gear to do future content.

There will be LFM, need exalted gear message in chat. This will be needed because future content will require it and it will spill over into other areas because people want to do dungeons and such asap.

Also current exotic gear will no longer be wanted. And what will ANet do there? Tell people, sorry you can’t get exalted gear in dungeons…so why do the dungeons?

You see, why would I get an exotic set now? Why do dungeons if I know this gear will be obsolete in the near future. Rare gear (yellow) will become subpar because of it and will serve no purpose anymore. You might as well throw it out.

The problem is devaluation of current gear and the need to go to that dungeon for that gear or you cannot play endgame anymore. Either because of these infuse elements or because you are shunted from groups that require exalted gear for anything.

In GW1 there was infusion. Only one kind. There were 3 missions where you could infuse ANY armour set from any expansion…and they all had the same stats. You could alter stats simply by changing runes and such. It was a better system.

It’s kinda like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Let’s say traditional MMOs are peanut butter and GW1 was the jelly. Now they combine the two in a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The problem is, some people don’t like peanut butter, some don’t like jelly and some don’t like the combination.

Anet said for years they would never combine the two. Now they are. Some will stay because of it, some will leave. But I figure that breaking a principle you advertised for years makes you untrustworthy. It means you cannot count on their principles. That is the biggest shame to me.

It’s a game forum. The truth is not to be found here.

When I created this, it was not to prohibit or kittening!

It was to ask people to respond constructively! To show that the community can be mature and rich in ideas, and listen will make a great game Gw2

If a child plaind all the time, the parent will say “no” to everything, exasperated by his behavior.

That’s why I asked was that people are calm and react wisely!
Community and not go to a spoiled child …

You shouldn’t be sorry.

Honestly, the forum is in a complete meltdown mode right now.
If you say some that merely “SOUND” like you’re supporting Anet’s ideal people are going to take things out of context, ignore what you’re trying to say and jump at you like sharks to baby seals.

All the people I have spoken ingame were pretty laxed about this change.

So I think I’m gonna just sit back and enjoy this mayhem, actually.

As said, that’s for one secondary stat, on one piece of equipment. With a non-Magic Find stat, the primary is likely to rise by 7-8 (given the typical ratio of Primary:Secondary stats on equipment), meaning a stat total of 17-18. Multiplied across six Accessory slots, six armour slots, and a weapon (some of which carry much larger bonuses per-item than a Ring) and you’re looking at a difference of at least 200-300 in raw stats.
That’s not taking into account the base attack/defense on the actual Armour and Weapons, which might raise damage and defense by another 8-10% on their own.

And that’s also assuming that Infusions won’t have any effect outside of areas where Spectral Agony is a factor, which is not a safe assumption.

And all of this is ignoring some of the more worrying language in the blog post, like that there are “Rarer versions” of Ascended equipment that convey additional bonuses – extra built-in Agony resistance is the only one named, but we don’t know if it’s the only bonus possible, and we don’t even know if ‘rarer’ means that those pieces only have one bonus, or if they represent a bump of all stats across the board, within the Ascended tier.
And that it’s specifically pointed out that the Infusion upgrades they’re talking about at this point are of the Fine quality level, meaning that in all likelihood there are Masterwork, Rare, etc versions in the works.

Very few people are overreacting to this announcement. Many of the more vocal detractors have simply thought it through.

Arnath said: That blog post would have been written hours if not days before this information was released and before people started complaining, dont get mad at that blog, wait for a new update with more information and then we can have a constructive conversation.

Right now people are just getting upset over nothing.

Okay, let’s look at the most recent blog post the moderator directed us to.

Linsey said: As we watch Guild Wars 2 mature in its Live environment, we have found that our most dedicated players were achieving their set of Exotic gear and hitting “the Legendary wall. We designed the process of getting Legendary gear to be a long term goal, but players were ready to start on that path much sooner than we expected and were becoming frustrated with a lack of personal progression.

This means that hardcore players maxed out their progression, Legendaries were really, really long-term goals and hard to get, and so the hardcore player base was getting frustrated with lack of character progression even after they hit 80 and get their exotics.

Our desire is to create a game that is more inclusive for hardcore and casual players alike, but we don’t want to overlook the basic need for players to feel like they are progressing and growing even after hitting max level.

Now character “progress” and “growth” has been redefined as a “basic need” for all players in order to justify adding hardcore-specific content to satisfy one particular segment of the player base – hardcore players that burned through the available content in 3 months and are “frustrated” that there “isn’t anything else to do” but the long grind for Legendaries.

By adding challenging new combat mechanics to end-game content…

This is a devastating phrase, even if it is casually slipped into the post. They’ve clearly given up on the “the whole game is the end-game” concept. By adding unique “new combat mechanics” to specific high-level content, they’ve actually now created a separation between “end game” and “the rest of the game”.

…and ways to mitigate those mechanics through gear progression for high-end players,…

“The whole game is the end game” ? Why rush content in for “high-end players”? This is exactly what WoW and every other game does: try to appease hardcore payers by constantly adding content so they can “feel” like their character is “progressing” and “growing”.

Where are all the new level 1-79 armor skins? Where are all the new city clothes? Where are all the new emote/animations? Where are all the horizontal, non-power, non-combat paths into sideral content? How about new hairstyles, tattoos, dances? How about new weapons at every level, new weapon skills? New traits to choose from all up and down the level ranks?

Oh, that’s right, all the casual players aren’t frustrated and complaining like the hardcores who consumed all the content already, so once again, the hardcores get unique content and unique gear and the rest of us get … what?

The first end game mechanic we will introduce is Agony, which will be encountered in the Fractals of the Mists dungeon, and is mitigated by Infusions.

The first “end game” mechanic? Isn’t THE WHOLE GAME THE END GAME?

As we release more new end game content in the future…

Isn’t THE WHOLE GAME THE END GAME? This is obviously ANET panicking that they are losing the playtime of hardcores that consume content the fastest, and reaching out to them by promising a future full of item progression.

The new additions in November are just the start of our item progression initiative. We’re going to add tons of new high-level content to Guild Wars 2 in the future. As we introduce the new high-level content, we’ll also roll out complimentary Ascended and Legendary items (to say nothing of the other rewards you can earn by playing the content).

There’s just no way to read this other than: we are catering to hardcore players who demand item progression. Maybe we’ll even toss in some scrub-sauce for casuals if we have time.

Ya I agree with this assessment, it sounds like they just want a mid tier of gear. Exotics are EXTREME easy to get and Legendary is a HUGE grind. They want something in the interim. For the people grinding for the Legendary these Ascended pieces will be the little bread crumbs that keep them going.

You had to work for gear in the beginning……what is the difference after 80? you think there just gonna beable to throw more skins at us? LOL, no that wont keep the players happy, i want my character to feel like he is getting stronger…..that is what an mmo is about right? or just grinding all day to play dress up is for you?

Worked fine for GW1. For a very long time. Once you hit max level, and get max gear, it’s about you learning to play better – about being stronger with what you have instead of requiring larger numbers and the same level of skill.

I feel the same as the OP – I’ve never before felt that Anet have let me down before. The lack of gear treadmill was something they seemed adamant to keep out of GW2, and that was a huge selling point for me. Suddenly though, that’s mysteriously vanished because a vocal minority demanded something that wasn’t ever part of the game, needing that carrot on a stick instead of improving themselves.

Ok now i’m really confused – which part of the current angst is about grinding, and what is there that’s suddenly new that we need to grind for?

The extra stats on the new gear. Read the blog, it’s all there: new gear that a) gives you more stats in all situations and b) a new infusion slot that you must have and fill to do the new content.

They are even upgrading the legendaries to the new stats, so obviously, the new stats & slot are not insignificant.

That is the very definition of gear grinding.

Untill now it was pretty easy: you get to 80, you get the top gear wherever you want and you can do any content you want.

From now on, it will be like each and every MMO there: you get to 80, you get the first set of top gear wherever you want, then you grind AGAIN for the second tier of top gear before you can do the end-game.

You used to go 80 > buy or earn exotic > end-game content.
Now you will go 80 > buy or earn exotic > grind for ascendent & infusion > end-game content.

You can look at this any way you want, you can call it any way you want, you can make as many posts you want, this new tier of gear is simply an added grind.

Making this MMO exactly the same as all the other MMOs out there.

Please ANet, no further. One of the greatest strengths of the Guild Wars series was that if I needed to leave the game for a while (Holiday, exams, …) I could come back and jump right back in, because my max level gear was still relevant. Right now, it’s only one added tier so the difference is tolerable. It’s the same as running around in Rares, like I do: I use a Rare MF set for farming in Orr because I didn’t want to shell out for the Exotic version. But if we allow this tiering to progress, there will come a time where I will have to put one of my alts through months of grind before I can play the content I want, which is exactly the opposite of what I want out of this game and what was promised by the game’s developers from the start.

Sadly, the current Ascended tier is probably too far gone to stop. However, please join me and tons of others in an effort to stop the gear progression right here. We don’t want it and it shouldn’t be needed. Content should be able to stand on its own, i.e. it should be fun enough so people would run it regardless of reward.

Please try and convince the playerbase to keep playing because your content is fun, not because you offer “the next set of awesome gear”.

Quick and short : when I started playing I had a feeling that people are so nice and you know … “well brained”. Now when ANet tries to do something for A LOT OF PEOPLE that were just getting bored everyone else is crying about it. What I thought is the best, turned out to be the worst, people have a mindset that if there is any gear progression they have to participate in it else they feel inferior to others that have 5% stats more. If you don’t like gear progression, even as little as ANet wants to introduce, either stay away from the new dungeon and help gear up people that want to try it out (because you will need exotics before stepping there) or go craft, farm events or do whatever you want. The game is ment to be fun, and your “fun” doesn’t have to collide with others.

“Fun” being connected to “better stats in items” is a silly notion for many of us tha picked this game (and GW1) in the first place.

I’ll link a post from a dangerous revolutionary that doesn’t want to help the people getting bored:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/is-it-fun-colin-johanson-on-how-arenanet-measures-success/

“Fun impacts loot collection. The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than other items, so you don’t need them to be the best. The rarest items have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of accomplishment, but it’s not required to play the game. We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.” ~Colin Johanson

This guy created a game I wanted to play and I bought it.

“As we watch Guild Wars 2 mature in its Live environment, we have found that our most dedicated players were achieving their set of Exotic gear and hitting “the Legendary wall.” We designed the process of getting Legendary gear to be a long term goal, but players were ready to start on that path much sooner than we expected and were becoming frustrated with a lack of personal progression. Our desire is to create a game that is more inclusive for hardcore and casual players alike, but we don’t want to overlook the basic need for players to feel like they are progressing and growing even after hitting max level.
(…)
We have always worked hard to create a sense of satisfying progression rather than gear grind and this new item progression initiative is no exception. By adding challenging new combat mechanics to end-game content and ways to mitigate those mechanics through gear progression for high-end players, we can add personal progression without making the game feel like an endless treadmill of gear that is just out of your reach” ~Linsey Murdock

This girl isn’t.
(not trying to make a girl vs guy thread, and I know this was approved by more than just these individuals)

Ascended items are Anet biggest mistake and a kneejerk reaction.

As of right now, the one slot that is comparable is a ring slot item. Draw your own conclusions, I just want to put out numbers since people keep quoting bizare values like “+2” or “8%” without really saying where it comes from.

Ascended Ring:
68 Precision
68 Power
10% Magic Find

Opal Orichalcum Ring of the Explorer:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Opal_Orichalcum_Ring_of_the_Explorer
63 Precision
63 Power
7% Magic Find

On the surface we see a 3% Magic Find boost, and 5/5 boost on the minor stats of Power and Precision.
Depending on how you look at this stat increase, whether compared at the jewel level or at the actual item level, the stat increase per % magic find is actually quite large. Let’s look at the next ring with both Prec/Power/%.

Ruby Orichlacum Ring of the Berserker:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ruby_Orichalcum_Ring_of_the_Berserker
92 Power

Coral Orichalcum Ring of the Rampager:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Coral_Orichalcum_Ring_of_the_Rampager
92 Precision
63 Power
63 Condition Damage

That is to say, 1% of MF (as the magor trait) can be argued in equivalency to 29 power. Or, when compared to purely stat gear, 7% of Magic Find is the equivalent of 92 stats. That is 13.15 stat/% trade off. Or, if you just want to compare basic stats on jewels:

Exquisite Opal:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Exquisite_Opal_Jewel
4% Magic Find
15 Power
15 Precision

Exquisite Ruby:
25 Power
15 Precision
3% Critical Damage

Exquisite Coral:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Exquisite_Coral_Jewel
25 Precision
15 Power
15 Condition Damage

That is to say that, when we compare the % based stats, you have a rough estimate of a trade-off of around +10 stat/% but when comparing % to non-% items, you have a trade off of about +6 stat/% (this arises because Crit Damage scales even more sharply than Magic Find in how much of a stat you have to sacrifice to build up Crit Damage). The number differences become much larger on armor.

Of course, the problem all comes down to Magic Find having very bizarre scaling. Where it can range anywhere from +6 stat/% exchange in jewels to as large as +22 stat/% stats on armor. If you’re more interested in the numbers, I’d look here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rampager%27s#Amount_of_Each_Stat_Per_Armor_Piece_for_Level_80_Items
Unfortunately it lacks Magic Find and Critical Damage scaling.

And in the end it all begs the question: Why did they show us the most hard to comprehend gear stat distribution? Why couldn’t they should the simplest as in: Rampager’s or Cleric’s?

Its hard to extrapolate just how much all gear will add, but just a single ring adds a lot more than “+2”. If we take the lowest denominator at +6 stat/% we’re placed at +18 stat on the ring from the Magic Find equivalent buff and then +10 total from the minor stats. That’s an increase of +28 stats overall for the ring. If we compared a whole ring (gem and all) in the set, with the high of +13 stat/%, we reach an increase in stats of about +49 overall for just the ring.

+49 stats on a ring is an increase of 18% in stats, total. (This is from: 1 – 218/267.)
+28 stats on a ring (our low ball) is an increase in 11% in stats total.

Have fun, and if I made a mistake let me know.

Remember that one that started collapsing because of that easily farmed event in the Mad Kings Zone? The even that resulted in an emergency fix where they nerfed the chest to the point it was no longer worth doing the event?

Wonder how everybody is going to feel when they can’t sell their exotics because of all the new ascended armour coming in over the next few content updates. To forget peoples reaction to it that easily you would think it hadn’t happened only last month.

There are 2 pieces coming out a ring and a back , and they are only useful in the new dungeon that will probably give exos for the higher rewards so its really no big deal.

Please read the blog post.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en-gb/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/

They will have higher stats then Exotics, eventually you will be able to wear full Ascended.

This will kill the exotic market and probably take the high tier crafting material with it.

They have higher stats because you can not add runes or gems to them , without this they would be worse than exotics.

No, please read the blog post like I asked you too. It specifically states that Ascended has higher stats.

If you look at the picture and add the numbers of the exotic together with the gem slotted into it it still has lower stats then the Ascended one shown.

Infusion might make that stat difference even more but even if it doesn’t then Ascended is still better and nobody will want exotics anymore.

The bonus I get for the runes I use is not worth losing to get a small increase in stats.

If you keep the bold bit within the quote above in mind, reading the article linked in the OP would make an awful lot of sense, so people who didn’t play Lotro, but do play GW2 can see what’s coming.

In my opinion the Acsended gear and even the infusion slots could be interesting, BUT the Agony condition is a very very bad idea as it’s the same gating mechanism as Radiance was in Lotro, locking out players from experiencing ‘new’ content!

Imo, it would be best to revert this mechanic asap, before it’s too late.

I still don’t agree you can compare the two. Agony is a damage type and dread isn’t. In Lotro you have mitigation to negate the damage types e.g. all the new wound, diseases, etc. that were introduced, plus could bump this through character stats. Raid sets had bonus mitigations on them. You could try hard mode without it but it would be extremely hard or do it with them and be easier. I see this as the same, except there is no easy mode and hard mode, but phases from easy mode to hard mode. Based on what I have read we will be able to do the early levels without anything special, but to do the harder levels we will.

To me this is like saying hard mode in Lotro is gating because you need to do easy mode to get the gear to do hard mode.

With radiance there was no chance of even doing easy mode without it. To me that is the difference.

It feels like Anet is flipping us GW vets the bird.

And If more people happen to be farming DEs in Orr it has nothing whatsoever to do with this ascended kitten.. way to logic fail.

I don’t understand, in a PVE game, why do people care what stats other people have?

Why do people care if someone joining their party is level 80 or level 79? And yet some do. I tend to add them to my ignore list, but they exist, and take up space in the servers, reducing the effective “useful” population (i.e., of people with a clue, who I might be interested in playing with).

Unltimately, if the stats were irrelevant, why would the game have them at all? They clearly have some influence on the performance of your character. A 42% increase in Magic Find, for example, will significantly increase you wealth compared to players without that bonus.

And GW2 isn’t just a “PVE game”. Your PvE gear is also used in WvW.

I am very excited for this. I think it is a step in the right direction. No matter how pretty the game is or how cool some of the armor looks, there will always be some form of progression in an mmo. It is the nature of the beast. I think they are taking great strides in trying to make this game appeal to a wide range of tastes as to make the game have a better player retention rate. More people playing is a good thing.
I look at it like this.
1. If you like open world pve…you’ve got it.
2. If you like regular dungeon running…you’ve got it.
3. If you like spvp… you’ve got it.
4. If you like wvw…you’ve got it.
5. And now, if your into getting new things for more power, you’ve got that too.
None of it is required, yet all paths are available for every play style.
In the end in almost every mmo, the acquisition of new stuff is the driving force behind it all. If some people need a carrot on a stick to keep them going, so be it. Eventually, (I’m crossing my fingers here) They may introduce raids!!! GASP!!! Oh the horror! People just need to relax and see where this new stuff takes us. I seriously doubt it’ll be as bad as people think. Besides, even if it did become a wow clone in the future, I’d rather play this than have to pay a monthly sub to do the same thing. People just need to chill out.

Youd be okay if your “power” stayed out of absolutely everything though right? I think the ascended stuff should only work in the fractal dungeon period..should have no effect outside of it..pve or wvw content should be void of anything past exotic stats imo. One side of playerbase should not inherently have an advantage just because they play their way…thats an idiotic design.

I’d be very happy if the new gear only worked in that one type of dungeon, as long as that type of dungeon doesn’t end up being the only one of it’s type. That would be as boring as not having the dungeon at all after awhile.
Why did I buy gw2 someone asked? Simple…I like all that it has to offer as it currently sits. I’m excited about the new content as a whole though, as it offers something different than the same old same old….and now I have something new to look forward to when I get to that point. I’ve not done everything there is to do in the game by far and the fact that now there will be even more to do makes me happy. Just because I said that I am happy that people who want more power can get it doesn’t mean that I am one of them. I just wanna play and have fun and the more ways I can do that the happier I am. Just my opinion.

Tell me about it, just came from Planetside 2 forum and oh my what a whinefest.
Not as bad as here tho, but still…

Well, what did you expect? That players said ‘oh, well, you told us that this would not be a grind MMO, but now you changed, no problem, Anet, we will just be quiet and grind, grind grind’?

And, no, we do not whine often. I didn’t see anyone whine in the last 3 months, except over Legendary drop rates (which Anet is now changing) and botting (which Anet is doing something about it too).

This broken no-grind-MMO promise is a serious topic, something that people feel very, very strong about.

We do not whine about the small stufkittenBut we do ’’whine’’ when you break one of your core promises.

Cant imagine they break the core value of the product that EASILY, betraying the ppl that trusted them on making something different. Thumbs down for sure on those who agreed on such idea. After playing MMOs for 15 years, gear grinding/level grinding is the worst of all when ur focus is PVP and WVW.

If Anet wants to makes endgame PVE more fun or harder for those hardcore pvers, they should seriously just improve the AI and adding more suprising elements on fight instead of focusing “STATS” and numbers.

Totally disappointed on this, not just being a liar, but also making me a liar when promoting gw2 to my friends as a “non grinding” fun game. GG

I don’t understand this “getting stronger” thing. I could understand facing new enemies and working out how to beat them through tactics and such. I could understand building up wealth and cool collections of things while “just playing” the game and having fun while doing so. Heck I could even understand some sort of “highscores” list where you can compare how your char is doing against others in various catergories/minigames/game features etc (perhaps giving the achivement points some actual meaning in the game?). But “getting more and more and more and more stronger” via items/equipment? Not really…… Where does it end?

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

I can understand the direction of aquiring gear up to a point. Ascended gear and infusions are interesting, ofcourse a grind to get and ofcourse Arenanet breaking their own philosophy by doing so, but for me a grind is not really the problem.

The biggest problem I see is the AGONY CONDITION. Quote from the blogpost:
“This extremely dangerous condition ticks percentages of player health away and can’t be cleansed by normal means. Players who wish to delve deep into the Fractals will find that Agony makes progress increasingly difficult, until they reach the point where some defense against this condition is a must.”

So…defense from this condition becomes a MUST… this means you NEED to have specific infusion upgrades linked to your gear in order to venture (further) into a dungeon and expirience it’s content.

The above is purposefully creating a gating mechanism 1 on 1 comparable to the Radiance gating mechanism which was implemented by Turbine in the Lord of the Rings Online…long story short:

Turbine realised (far too late, but at least did) that the implementation of their Radiance mechanic was creating more and more of a rift between competitive players and casual players. Casual players got barred from experiencing (new) content because they didn’t have the nescessary amount of Radiance to even enter a (new) dungeon. Eventually Turbine scrapped the whole Radiance mechanic and everyone could experience all content again. More info about this gating system in Lotro: Agony? Infusions? Did none of the Devs play LotRO?

Now, with this AGONY CONDITION creating exactly same gating mechanism (for now only in this dungeon, but it would be naive to think that it won’t be reoccurring in future dungeons), it seems that Arenanet did not learn from mistakes that have occured and resolved in other games. In my opinion the implementation of this agony condition is completely flawed and a definite turn for the worse!

BUt legendary have THE SAME STAS as EXOTICS… why create a new type of items with different stats???

Why dont simply let people infuse their exotics items, instead of create this big mess! People claim for new skins and better looks, not for higher stats!

Because, like Guild Wars before it, GW2 doesn’t fall into the traps of traditional MMORPGs.

I forgot to add that if X content will reward Y items, that will have the same stats, than Z player won’t have any new content because he will not like the look of items and thats the only thing he gets from them. Don’t forget about that.what is the point in doing X content more than once if there is no reward? It gets extremly repetetive if there is no goal to aim at. People are already grinding, for looks. Whether its for stats or for looks, its still GRIND. How long till majority will understand…

They don’t have to incrase the stats on new ascend content. Just add first tier of progress, let it have the 5 or 10 more stats on gear. When the second tier is added nerf first one so ascend items have only looks, and they don’t reward stats. Also, the bonus few percents of stat bonus fades from first tier items. Thus forcing people that want to keep up the very best gear to challenge the second tier, that is hard, and not yet nerfed.

I agree that people who dislike something should make themselves heard, did it myself in the massive thread but OP has a point, some of the posts go way too far in that regard. There is no need to resort to blackmail like tactics/ sensationalisim saying things like if you implement this I will quit, never spend another $1 or calling them liars etc.. To me thats uncalled for. Its enough to simply list conserns and what items of what they’re proposing you’re against and why!

People act like Arenanet are doing this with malicious intent! why would they do that? they’re simply trying to improve upon what people want. The problem is people complain about what they dont like and rarely praise what they like. How many posts did we see about how happy people were with there being no progression in gw2? not one, while there were several post stating this was something urgently needed due to there being nothing to do at endgame and several posts of people unhappy with gw2 having too much vertical progression as is!

Somethings unfortunitely you can’t really gauge what their outcome will be before you try them out for yourself!

As a more specific answer, we already have fine master-work and exotic, would you be complaining if this had been in from the start? The point is its combined with new content, would you also be as content if they give you new dungeons to do with no new shiny gear rewards?

If I would have spent the same amount of gold / time gearing up to a maximum then aswell? Yes, I would be here complaining. Because of what they stated back at the start. No extra gear tiers.

We aren’t complaining about the new content at all, we all love that. We are complaining about the new gear tier.

They could just as easily have done new content with different attribute setups instead than implementing a new tier. Giving out gear like perhaps toughness / vitality /healing for instance and people would have gone for it. I myself would probably have gone for it and wouldn’t have complained at all, because thats within what we were looking for.

But starting out a new gear tier, makes all our current gear invalid (for those of us who do hardcore, not having the best gear, isn’t an option.) Which quite simply means, nothing of what we have done so far gear wise except for legendaries will be of any use to us. It’s simply time lost to those of us who don’t welcome this.

Now, I can understand totally that some love this more than anything, I love the game myself, but I think they are focusing on the wrong things atm. Having a gear threadmill is never a good solution for endgame. There are a lot more better ways to do endgame mechanics.

The ascended items give a 8% stat increase and you can expect the weapons to do more damage too. That’s enough of a difference that you need these items to stay competitive.

Arenanet should either add these weapons as reward for playing WvW or they should allow SPvP gear and characters in WvW so PvP’ers aren’t forced to grind in PvE to stay competitive.

I know I am! And so are my friends who have gotten very board with Guild Wars 2 over the past few weeks!

I have seen a lot of the knee jerk reactions posts of how much people can’t stand change so this thread is for people who are truly happy with the upcoming content and changes!

Thank You ArenaNet!!

You should learn to read better. People’s issue is not with change, it’s with the disturbance of the tiers. I’m sure no one is complaining about new content, it’s the fact that the new content has a built-in geargrind treadmill.

Seriously why did you buy GW2 in the first place? Aren’t the millions of other MMOs enough for you? Why does GW2 have to be exactly the same?

The same question can be said for those who believes endgame gear progression is bad thing and believe Gw2 should not include it. Why should GW2 be exactly like GW1?
Now I’m not saying needing to get a certain stat to be able to do dungeon isn’t ridiculous – that’s completely dumb.

But if its just a better tier of gear with non of the infusion stuff I’m all for it. Guild Wars 2 is not meant to be guild war 1 as it is nothing like guild wars 1 from the get go. If I want a game where I’m only ever gonna grind for skin I’ll go play GW1.

So Guild Wars 2 shouldn’t be like Guild Wars 1?

So you want this game to be just like every other MMO instead of being the only open world non instanced game with no treadmills. Just like we were promised it would be?

I don’t play GW1 for the horizontal progression because it is old now, as far as I am concerned the mechanics and engine are starting to show their age. I may go back to play it every so often but I much prefer the more fluid combat/open world of GW2. But apparently if I want to do that I have to jump on another treadmill and start the grind because a bunch of idiots forgot their WoW passwords and thought the best reaction to that would be to buy GW2 and complain it isn’t exactly the same.

See now I was going to get a bit ragey and mention that the ascended ring you see in the blog post clearly has 15 more stat points than the exotic jewled ring next to it, but you raise a tremendously interesting point. If the infusion slot replaces the upgrade slot, that may mean the eventual Ascended armor (and maybe weapons) that come out may not have rune (or sigil) slots. If that’s the case, its very possible the stat increase evens out or even loses out in a 1:1 comparison with an exotic armor (or weapon) set with full superior runes (or sigils), except for having the infusion slot.

Ok… going back to revise my posts. thank you for pointing this out, it may be that this is not the problem I felt it was, though that’s obviously based on assumptions.

I agree. I’m surprised and upset that this is happening.

I know arguments can be made that we don’t have all info yet and the changes are small.

But.

It is a matter of pride. Anet “promised” us a different game in all interviews, blog-posts and general rhetoric. Now they seam to go down a different road.

As many have said already. “That kind of game” is already out there, in abundance. Even if you don’t agree and want a new WoW or SWTOR, there is a large part of the player-base that came to this game hoping and believing that it wouldn’t be “just another standard MMO”. Basing that belief on what Anet said them-self.

I just want that kind of game, and in the vision Anet painted for me, as a GW1 fan, gear-progression has no place.
