WvW – Structure Upgrade Re-Work idea!
WvW – Art of War Guild Buffs & Keep Claiming Re-Work idea!
(edited by Luna.9640)
Next QoL update will be – “Playtime-o-metter” (Tada!)
A new feature that will track the time you spend online and reward you for being in-game as well as it will be required to play the game itself and do anything in-game :O (Archeage labor points anyone?)
(edited by Luna.9640)
Problem #3: Again, personal opinion, but honestly; it’s player manipulation disguised as a change to benefit us, which is simply disgusting. Why would the spend resources on an area basically everybody seemed content with when they clearly stated their resources are limited and they will prioritize based on player feedback?
I don’t know about basically everyone. I am sure I am not the only one that got tired of the same routine with the same reward every day.
I use the daily achievements for quick XP boosts when leveling characters. I haven’t leveled one in a while, but if I ever get back to it, it’ll be sad to see I can’t do that quite as easily (I can’t take a sub-75 to Malchor’s or Maguuma Wastes).
I think the level tomes that you earn for this could make up for this and then some.
However, the Log-in Rewards scream “lazy desperation to increase statistics” to me. Like somewhere down the line of management promised a higher up ’we’ll increase log-in numbers’ and rather than going the proper route of making continuous playability enjoyable, they’re promoting log-in-once-and-leave mentality.
While that would indeed be the case if it was along the lines of many others which basically resets if you do not log-in one day the system they are implementing seems to be remembering your place, so even if you only log-in once a month you will still progress on the track.
It is rather unlikely that people that wouldn’t login anyway would log in every day just to get a reward that they will have no use for unless they actively play the game.

Except that it sounds like you’ll have to choose between them and the “monthly” laurel reward at the end. One or the other, where right now we have both.
I like this change, because now I can continue to ignore the WvW and PvP dailies like I did before, but then again, I didn’t really care about getting the max every single day, just completing the daily. Now if they want they can eliminate the max cap on the dailies, I did the calculation and it would only have taken someone 833+ days(2.2+ years) to reach the total daily max, at which point you would no longer have incentive to do them.
Remember though when dailies where first in game they used to give 5 AP’s per each completed one, not 1AP,
Also it never took me 4-6 hours to do them, even in the very early days it would only take you 45mins to an hour,
They where capped hard because the ultra casuals could not keep up with the players who play daily, so the players who play daily got the beat down, and ever since Anet has been playing and changing the game for the ultra casuals, everyone else go home.
They need a DYNAMIC cap, if they don’t, when I hit the Daily cap for AP, ill just leave and go play elsewhere, but each to there own, AP is not a sign of skill, but some of us use it for fun between friends, stop the fun, stop playing.
Yes, they took 4-6 hours at one point in time. You could get 2 WvW Rank ups + 5 SoloQ wins + 3 TeamQ wins as the daily. If you assume 50% win rate that is 16 games played per day of sPvP per day = 4 hours if you manage one game every 15min.
re: You really are going to have the options to reward people to login instead of actually playing the game for rewards? – Geez, drama much? You aren’t getting rewarded for logging in instead of actually playing the game. They’re giving some little piddly thing to each person who logs in, in addition to what they get for actually playing. So take a few quarts of valium(more if necessary) and try to calm down. Or better yet, try actually reading the news article:

Where did they ever say that they would prioritize based on player feedback? I know they’ve said “we’re listening”, but I don’t recall them saying that they’d do anything about it.
Hey there. That was to my knowledge in some post back in summer after the controversial SAB interview. (guildmag ?) Unfortunately I can’t seem to find it since it’s buried under tons and tons of newer threads in the now reworked forums :S
Assuming I’m wrong, I’d still love to hear their reasoning on why they felt the need to change that particular aspect of the game, since I’ve never seen actual forum threads complaing in any way, shape or form and it just seems odd that they spend some of their precious resources on an aspect nobody (not literally, but there just wasn’t any feedback from people unsatisfied with it, so far all ANet knew, people seemed to like it) wanted changed to begin with.
It really doesn’t make sense in another way than desparately trying to ‘hook’ players in a way I personally find exploitative and make the game just slightly more like a skinner box.

Based on the article it sounded like level tomes came out of the individual daily objective rewards.
Will it tell me where to go and what to do?
ATM if I want to level my new engi in Kessex I can likely get daily gatherer, kills, revives, recycler, events, dodges, interrupts while I’m doing that. I do what I want and do the other stuff in passing.
Is the new system going to tell me “do a group event” or is it “go to Lornar’s Pass and do event X”?

So If I understand this now, in order to complete dailies I have to jump all over the map doing things that are pointless or that I have done so many times before they aren’t interesting rather than the existing system where I play the game and do interesting stuff to get my dailies?
Who seriously researched this and thought it was a good way to spend company resources compared to spending those recourses on actual improvements?
Any competent person knows that you fix the stuff that is broken before you start playing with anything else.
Of course Politicians and Managers work to a different rule. Stuff that is broken you ignore or blame on someone else, and stuff that isn’t broken, well that’s what you play with. If you don’t break it you claim a great victory and if you break it you blame someone else, ignore it or claim it was already broken and no-one had noticed until you pointed it out which is what makes you so great…..
This is an awesome feature, but it really does feel sudden/unexpected.
But you only have to do 3 of the 12 that looks like are provided for us. 20-30 minutes before reset, even currently, is a short time table to knock out objectives for daily completion. I assume if there is a zone specific objective it will be vastly more populated that it would be now.
Today, I had the choice of 8 dailies to get my 5. In the new system, I’d get a choice of 3 of 4, as I won’t do PvP or WvW just for a daily. I don’t need to do now, I don’t see a reason to start doing it after the update. I’d rather stop playing, to be honest.
Did they not say the Log-in Rewards were to help offset the removal of Monthly Rewards?
It sounds pretty nice to me. Especially the fact that it doesn’t reset until you hit the max. No more losing Monthly Rewards for lack of time each month.
You never know…maybe those that ‘just log in for rewards’ will decide to play, as well! =)
Yes, it looks like where we could previously complete dailies all on one map,(and easily within 30 to 45 minutes) now we’re going to have to hop all over the place. Including high level areas that new players are going to have access to. And do things that only occur on a time table. So while the different, “more rewarding” rewards are nice, I think it will end up taking a lot more time to do dailies. And I wish we could have the option to do 3 of 5 instead. I can’t do most JP’s, which will limit my possible choices.
But thank you, thank you for separating PvE and non-PvE achievements.

Logging in to say this idea has gotten me excited and I hope it turns out even better then expected. Thank you everyone at Arena Net

A lack of reset does not mean that the system’s purpose is to effectively falsify daily log-in numbers.
They’re providing a reward that if you don’t log in you don’t get (as fast). It’s psychological conditioning at its finest. Do a simple action, get a reward; the action again, get a reward; rinse repeat. It’s a minor alteration of the skinner box (which almost all MMOs – as are all gambling are based off of in order to retain playerbase – and the creation of additional skinner boxes just means they’re getting more desperate for retaining their playerbase).

You mean you had the choice of 12 dailies to get your 5. Choosing not to do something is still a making a choice, you limit yourself not the game. The system just got balanced for PvP too, now everyone has the option to stick to their game mode.
However, the Log-in Rewards scream “lazy desperation to increase statistics” to me. Exactly my point. I get excitement about AP changes but why some people seem so thrilled that ANet treats them like lab rats whose sole purpose is to be ‘monetized’ escapes me :/
(edited by Crovax.7854)
Well, while I’m not too offended by the change I do question, as do others, why ANet resources have been spent on this rather than on fixing the HORRIBLE trait system and other long-standing problems.
Let’s give a moment of silence for the old trait system, shall we? Apparently it is dead and buried.
This is one thing that makes me angry about this game. Glaring flaws go unfixed for eons while the company focuses on making more money and keeping people logging in.
Aww I bought all the home gathering nodes just to faceroll my daily gatherer. That was my favorite daily.
If it’s “Gather in Ascalon” for the daily, maybe going to the Black Citadel and doing your harvesting in the home instance there will still count?
Small hope, I know, and nowhere near as convenient.
Although this would be a step up from having to port all over the kitten map, some of us don’t even know the layout of the other home instances. A better way to not make those of us that paid for the home nodes feel left out would just to allow them to be used no matter the daily region.
On topic. I will hold judgement for when it is released, but if it means it will cause me to do very specific things in very specific areas, I can’t say it will be a step forward at all. Currently I can pop off 70% of the daily without having to do or go anywhere special and although there will be rewards for doing so it will feel more like a chore this way for me to complete.
(edited by Tommyknocker.6089)
Oh wait, I didn’t read the article properly. The 28 square “reward calendar” isn’t for doing dailies 28 times, it’s for logging in 28 times. Okay, that is a little excessive for just logging in. But I guess it kinda makes up for no longer being able to do dailies in under 30 minutes.
I simply look at in the sense that this is something people have asked for. Repeatedly. Including the ‘i should be rewarded just for logging in’ bullkitten. So they gave it to us.
I find it especially funny, since the “rewards for just logging in” was something mentioned mostly by people that wanted everything to be hard, and beyond reach of average players (and mentioned only as a strawman to ridicule those that disagreed). Seems Anet listened to them and believed it’s truly what the players want. Hilarious, isn’kitten
Yes, it did make me chuckle, and shrug. Still, it “was” asked for and we got it. I’m not going to judge it as bad or fail before I give it a fair trial. Like I said before though, it’s not really going to affect how often I do or don’t log in. Other things in life take precedent over a game (no matter how much I may like the game).
I find it mind boggling people can complain about getting rewarded for logging in. Its like they are saying “Anet please reward me less and stop trying to get players to log in everyday.”
True that a world boss completion would be on a bit of a scheduling conflict,
But you only have to do 3 of the 12 that looks like are provided for us. 20-30 minutes before reset, even currently, is a short time table to knock out objectives for daily completion. I assume if there is a zone specific objective it will be vastly more populated that it would be now.
We will just have to wait and see the different objectives they have in store for us on a daily basis and what they reward. It looks like to me it will be much better than the standard 1 laurel, mystic coin, 50 luck, karma consumable, and XP currently offered.
I think this will be a positive they are doing. They are trying to fill areas that would not normally have alot of traffic making it more populated for newer players on select days. They are getting people to gather in areas that they normally would not and bring a little more balance to the market. Trying to get people out of the beaten path to discover new things they might have not normally gone and done.
Dailies are pretty much all I log in to do now, so I’m optimized for knocking them out quickly. I never miss my laurel even if I have to log in 15-20 minutes before reset, and I earn a little AP along the way.
I have characters parked by permanent rich gathering nodes that never shuffle, a sword/pistol thief for quick successive skill interruptions with headshot and evades with pistol whip, a condition clearing mesmer with sword for blurred frenzy evades near trolls that apply bleeding on every hit, easy access to a champion 20 yards away for daily champ slayer, spiders that can be spawned from cocoons for each individual character to quickly knock out daily kills/condition applier, easy underwater slayer or laurel vendor when applicable, a character parked near plenty of dead NPCs for daily reviver.
The structure and wide variety of generic gameplay options allows for both optimized continuity and the ability to log in for a few hours and randomly get your daily done no matter what zone or dungeon you feel like clearing.
There are better ways to encourage further exploration than taking traits away from people and sending them to rarely visited zones/events to unlock them, or forcing people into specific tasks for daily completion.
I’ve suggested that they could offer a daily/weekly map rotation bonus that gives 33% extra gathering chance, 50% karma, 50% magic find, 50% experience gain, etc. in lesser visited areas like Timberline Falls and Lornar’s Pass. You can offer incentives without being dictators and taking away player freedom. They could also bring back the random watchwork minion invasion events and move them to more low-mid level maps in conjunction with the map rotation bonuses.
You can add without replacing or taking away.

I would say that doing 3 dailies (along the line of “kill 3 people in WvW”) will take way less than 30 minutes for most people.
If the system still gives us access to as many Laurels as before, then I am totally fine with it. If it changes to where we only can get say, 5 laurels on the 10th day and 5 laurels on the 20th day and they removed the 10 laurels for the monthly, then this is another case of 1 step forward and 2 steps back.
“We want to give players the opportunity to try things they may not normally experience”, I’m reserving judgement till I actually use the new system but that sentence is 7 kinds of ominous. I’d rather not be given the “opportunity” to be lead around the game on a leash any more than I already am.

not loging in will not “break” the chain
if you are at “stage” 5 today and you dont log in for 10 days, you will be at stage 6 when you do log in after 10 days….
The only bad thing of NOT spending 1 minute on clicking a shortcut and log in buttons for the daily log in reward would be needing more than 28 irl days to get to the 28th reward.
as in: me and my friend both loged in every day for 27 days. he logs in the next day for his 28th reward, i dont.
he logs in the next day for his new 1st reward, i log in for my 28th reward.
I dont get what the big problem is here. People were whining about “having” to log in and doing random things for their daily rewards, and even doing more random stuff they dont like doing to get aaaaall the achievement points.
Now you have to do 3 things to get the max amount of achievement points, and you get a reward by just loging in….
PS:

I stopped going out of my way daily to get the dailies done some time ago, but still quite often managed to get them done by just playing the game. Sounds like this is going to put an end to that by spreading them all over hell and half of Tyria. Whatever. Seems like just more pointless busy work.
How about that trait system redesign? Any alteration coming up for that?
/e crickets
re: I would say that doing 3 dailies (along the line of “kill 3 people in WvW”) will take way less than 30 minutes for most people. – But that isn’t a daily, it’s one-third of a daily. And I’m a PvE-only player, anyway.
What about things like “Defeat <a *certain*> World Boss”.(rather than “Defeat any World Boss”) You can only do that at certain specific times of the day. And doing 4 events in Orr could take 30 minutes or more, just in and of itself.(besides excluding new players) I like the less region-specific dailies. But hey, we have disproportionate login rewards. That should make up for it.(right?)
Firstly, incentifizing logging doesn’t mean people will burn out. That assumes they’d be doing certain things with in the game constantly after logging in. Even then, you and I do not have to log in for these rewards.
Secondly, this isn’t a new thing. Other games have it a plenty and I fail to see any negatives for the gamer associated with log in rewards.
Thirdly, there are plenty of ‘log-in’ rewards already. Camp your toon next to your home instance and gather resource nodes that reset daily, time-gated ascended materials, and certain events.
To answer some of your concerns though, log in rewards are not entirely and solely expected to Freemium mobile games, though they are there. Warframe, first game that comes to mind, uses log-in rewards.
“I know that A-net are trying to make us keep coming back with the patches, and I accepted their “Log-in with each patch” approach to do so… but THIS is a bit to obvious”
Not sure what you’re getting at here, but I hope that Anet is obvious with their design decisions geared at getting more players to keep coming back. That is what I define as a good game. The whole perception of Anet being desperate is a moot opinion, and I would prefer more points as to WHY it makes them seem desperate than just telling me.
“After all loging in is not something to justify a reward.”
Why not?
“Besides that, not all of us can log-in every day so not to break the chain, ether because of work, being away from home (it’s not something you can do from your cell phone) or simply don’t feel like playing today.”
Maybe you didn’t read the whole article:
“Missed a day because of work, vacation, or a work vacation? No worries, your progress is still there! The next time you log in, you’ll pick up where you left off. The system will only reset once you’ve claimed the 28th and final reward.”
“The Biggest advantage GW2 has over paying MMOs is that you can stop any time without fearing of wasting the subscription you’ve paid”
Non sequitor, but if you are implying that this log-in system thus diminishes this advantage then I would require more examples/points because otherwise it’s just conjecture.
“Forcing us to get into the game every day will only cause us to burn out and downright quit it at some point.”
Not forcing. It is an incentive.

But dailies aren’t broken.
There are plenty of things that are broken (such as gathering nodes that can’t be accessed, events that stall and never complete, ridiculously high WvW AP requirements to name but a few) that have existed since the game launch.
Surely they should look at fixing these and other long term bugs rather than spend their resources on something which actually works?
I could be wrong, but based upon various LS comments I believe that many people would like to see some for of instanced Scarlet LS stuff as currently due to the way LS works you jump straight from finishing one story with destiny’s edge to starting a new LS with a group who you have never met in the LS system who claim to know you and call you “boss”. This seems to be a huge continuity issue for anyone who missed the events that led to the 2nd destruction of LA in GW2.
On a side note I think I saw stuff such as levelling tomes and skill points as rewards in the new system – please give options for other stuff. Personally I have 8 characters of which 7 are at level 80, and the other level 42. Bonus Skill Points are so plentiful in this game that even the level 42 has every skill bought and a surplus of at least 50.
And judging by other players I am just a casual player.

I’ve seen a lot of people around here post like that. Both those for and against assorted Anet shenanigans.
“White Knights,” we need to start our own guild or something. Just to be that much more annoying.
I still don’t see how just logging in should be rewaded other than to serve as a tool to condition players into logging in frequently. Not long, just frequently; make it a part of their daily routine. That’s how exploitative games work and something I never thought ANet would incorporate in their game.
The daily change is nice, this is just downright insulting. If you want to be treated like a lab animal, that’s your choice. I however still have some pride left and don’t want to be seen as a walking moneybag, where the first priority is: ‘How can we pull the most money out of that sucker?’ instead of ‘How can we make the game the most fun so this player wants to give us his money?’

I don’t really see how that is any different from what I first said.
Completing 3 dailies along the lines of (such as about the same difficulty/time-requirement) kill 3 people in WvW WILL mean you have completed your daily.
^ Can we then assume that you will either not open or at the very least will delete all the rewards gotten from the login-reward system?
