Upcoming changes in Spring Quarterly Update
No one payed for the deserted bl. That was introduced after the game went free to play.
A lot of people payed for the alpine map and enjoyed it for years before Anet decided to replace it with some gimmicky untested mess of a map.
Hell I pre ordered the alpine map the first day gw2 was available.
You didn’t pay for the desert bl. That is a feature that is available to any one. They aren’t deleting the bl it will eventually be in rotation when they get the tech down to do it. One more thing, if you think that the new map isn’t broken then you are in the minority.
I’m thrilled to be reminded time and time again that I live in this magical world where I apparently pay for nothing, Anet works for free and none of the money I spent on any microtransactions or the expansion is anyway whatsoever linked to any of the content or features they are now removing or cutting.
Of course, new WvW maps were listed in the advertisements for the expansion, so you’ll have to forgive me in being fooled into thinking that a portion of money I spent on that expansion went to pay those developer’s salaries, who apparently worked for pixie dust and lush verbal praise from Colin.
Funny I still have one of my alt accounts that I haven’t upgraded to HoT yet and I’m able to go to the cancer bl if I choose. If your argument is that your gem purchases helped fund the new bl then yes I’ll agree with that but that doesn’t make you entitled to anything either.
They are making changes to the dbl that are rolling out before they bring back alpine. They are not just getting rid of dbl. Eventually they will have to tech to rotate them (hopefully). Now if they where just removing them outright then I would agree with you even though I hate them.

That is funny.
Still can’t believe they made Trehearne gone and my character said to Caithe she’s traitor and wanted to kill her when in previous season it was “I trust Caithe, she knows what she’s doing. She’s thief so it’s her job” This is just out of my mind how screwed it got because of these kittening moaners.
I don’t believe for a second that HoT story’s plot devices were entirely due to forum posts.
Please…My friend… Please… Don’t.
People were crying to kill off my Trehearne brother for a long long time. They finally did it and gave us psycho Canach and no mention of Malyck. You have no idea how sad I was. After that I read posts on forums, they were like “Yay Trehearne finally is gone, now kill Zojja/Logan please.” Don’t you get that moaners are going to moan and say ‘(…) or I quit this game’ untill they get what they want? The same situation with Caithe. You had option to hate her or to like her at the end of LS2, in the Labirynth, after she took that egg. I choose to like her, because she was and still is my babe that helped me, showed me the world. Guess what? She’s traitor and my hero wanted to kill her, despite of my personal opinions and picks I did in previous story nananananna. I felt like my character is one of these forums haters. I wanted to delete it because of that. That would soothe my pain ;_;
MY LOVELY EDIT:
Again me <kisses>. Forgot to tell you about Marjory and Kasmeer, the lovely lesbian couple which I am shipping so much. Guess what happened? People were crying on forums that they don’t want to see their dramas, sayings, and lovely love because they’re homosexual. So they reduced it and now they’re just walking zombies that show no love between them. They even wanted to kill them both, so I’ll just wait in contrast to those inpatient moaners and see if arenanet again will listen to haters.

First they moan about Legendaries, because ‘we paid for them’ now they moan about deleting Desert Borderlands. Haven’t you paid for this?
Yeah, I did and it sucks, but I paid for something that has made WvW, one of the limited forms of end game content we have, worse.
It’s not the same as cutting Legendaries, because Legendaries have been what has held up the lack of end game content for a lot of players. I’m one of them. Working on Bifrost slowly over the years added a new dimension to playing PvE content that has provided no rewards of value beyond the first set of gear I acquired on my elementalist three months after launch.
But, hey, who needs reasons right when we can just make a high and mighty, ranty post that makes this overly broad and idiotic generalization that concludes that everybody moaning is moaning about the same stuff for the exact same reasons?
If Legendaries are the only thing that stops you in the game – You should really think about leaving for good, because your moaning can only kitten this game up. That’s my personal opinion.
Story fixes, Bug Fixes, Map Fixes, Event Fixes, Raid Fixes kitten all of these fixes>Legendaries
New Content>Legendaries
Guess what? Gemstore>LegendariesLots of players don’t have enough money and you people cry for things that costs sh-tons of gold, because you have them. Look how egoistic it is. You say “skip story, give legendaries”… It’s hard to be not kittened.
MY LOVELY EDIT:
The same situation is with you – WvW moaners. You don’t like the map, because it’s bugged so you want the old one back. What with people who fell in love with Desert Borderlands? Well? kitten THEM, WE WILL MOAN AND MOAN UNTILL WE GET IT.
Because it’s hard to please devs to prepare lots of bug fixes and write things into bug tracker, report them etc. Congratulations. I don’t even want to say what are you, because I believe I’d get ban quickly.
Well, I always appreciate personal opinions, though if you can point out where I said it was the only thing that kept me in game and thus, warranting you sharing that opinion.
Nor did I say “skip story. give legendaries”. If you knew at all my opinions on it, I considered it to be a hard choice that if had to be made for the sake of content, was warranted. However, it is a feature that has existed for a long time and the absence of the new ones do have consequences on the game that can’t be ignored.
Now, if you have personal opinions on things that I have actually said and you have not just completely made up, I would love to hear those.

LOL maybe you should do your own research instead of marketing. It was clearly stated many times before HoT that you would not need the expansion to play on the new map. If that was the case I would have been cheesed about upgrading 4 accounts.
Hi MO, any changes to dungeons?
Not much – just a couple of achievements, one where you are required to whine plaintively in map chat for 1 full hour begging people to join your LFG that is now utterly unpopular.
If you stop whining for more than 5 minutes you lose activity participation.
If you start and fill a group only to get kicked by the people who have NOT spent an hour getting it together because they don’t consider you ‘Leet’ enough you get a ’Russian Doll ’ box.
Contains 76 bags all with a smaller chance of actually containing anything of worth than the previous one opened.
Personally im stoked.

I’m well aware of this fact. But even though this available as part of the free to play game, doesn’t the fact that it was sold as part of that expansion in the marketing material leads to people to reasonably associate that feature with the money they spent on that expansion?
I mean, after all, if it was just another update like any other feature that was implemented independently of the expansion, then it won’t be in the marketing material like features like that weren’t?
So if they (or you) will feel that we should perceive this as not a loss of a paided feature, then they should stop including it as selling point in their current marketing material for buying the expansion.
In other words, if you are correct, then it shouldn’t be in that link I am providing which is marketing material to sell the expansion to other players, as that would be false advertising and unethical.
Or are you so desperate to be right that you are going to continue to ignore this very clear connection that makes the ground on which you lecture players very shaky?
Now, if you have personal opinions on things that I have actually said and you have not just completely made up, I would love to hear those.
“(…) because Legendaries have been what has held up the lack of end game content for a lot of players. I’m one of them.” – Your words honey. There’s no lack of end game in Guild Wars2. There’s always something to do.

And none of those words mean it’s the sole reason I play the game. What it means is in addition to all the other parts of the game that I enjoy, Legendaries fill the void of an end game vertical progression system that you can find in other MMOs (that also have other things to do).
And that’s what they have done. That’s what they mean to a lot of people. Just trivializing them to just purely cosmetic items that mean nothing in and of itself doesn’t mean anything. You can trivialize anything in video games to having no meaning and “just being a peice of armor” or “just being a weapon” or “just being a new area” or “just being a quest”.
However, they are the sum total of why we play the game and cutting any of it is always a net loss to the experience.
/shrug.
Well if you read the Legendary thread there’s plenty of people saying there that “if it doesn’t concern me, I don’t care”. Guess what, now other people are saying that about WvW. People aren’t able to look beyond their own immediate concerns to see the bigger picture of content paid for and removed.
And truthfully from your post I think you’re one of the people who felt about Legendaries that you didn’t care, but now it’s your content that you wanted getting removed, and now that’s different isn’t ‘it. Now you’re mad.
I DO care about Legendaries, but I don’t hide that there are other priorities. Deleting new content and giving old back? Very bad idea I didn’t pay for. So… maybe… at least give my money back that I’ve spent to be, play and have fun on these maps?
WvW is not only content I play, because I love all of the contents and I don’t play only one…I would get bored quick. Which I don’t like is deleting new, exciting and adding old, boring back. I wouldn’t say I am mad, but more angry. My money went for things that people want to be deleted, and not fixed. There’s a bug section on this forum. All moaners should go there and ask for fixes. That’s it.
Let me put that into another logic though I have to say I can make an English fiasco here, because I am not native, so let’s go: If they would give you new Legendaries and deleted old ones…And you would be excited because of those new shinies, but some moaners around wouldn’t be and would want them to be deleted so at the end they would delete the new lovely Legendaries and implemented old ones back…Would you be kittened? I would as hell.

I really hope the desert borderlands wont be completely removed, i for one love them. What happend to the desert borderlands being on rotation with the alpine maps like it was planned from the beginning?
And i know i’m not the only one who love the new borderlands, but of course you dont hear much from us who love it because we are actually ingame playing it, contrary to the people who hate it and spends all their days complaining on the forum about it.
Also as a final note, occasionally i travel into EB and meet these desert borderlands haters, and turns out many of them didnt even spend more than 10 minutes in the new borderlands, they just decided they hate them, if its because they are conservative and cant be bothered to learn a new map or if its because they fell to their death and their kitten got fractured i dont know.
But please dont completely remove the desert borderlands, a rotation is fine though.
There’s a bug section on this forum. All moaners should go there and ask for fixes. That’s it.
Not everything players want to see changed, though, can be relegated to a coding bug. So it wouldn’t be appropriate for us to express our concerns only in there.
Is there any new content at all planned for April?
Good or bad, I think they need to set expectations now with a simple yes or no answer to that question. If it is there, they don’t even need to tell us what it is. At this point, it’s okay to continue polishing the game a little, but we mainly just want something new to do (and need something to look forward to).
1. Reduced scribing costs.
2. Probably WvW map reversion.
3. No more dates for anything will be announced to prevent backlash.
Nothing about a massive skill and profession balance?
If there is anything it should be “April will have a massive class and skill balance”.
Let’s be honest. Every elite specialization is more powerful than the base class, I’ve never once played ranger since druid came out. The Ele power creep is so real: ele can now out heal the “dedicated healer class (druid)” while tanking a team of 3 or 4 in pvp and potentially down someone. Dragonhunter traps put ranger traps to shame. Necromancers are basically the only class ran in PvP now.
TL:DR
What do the players want?
Massive skill and profession balance.

This! Omg – Give this man/woman lots of candies, beer cans, kisses and loves because he’s/she’s kitten right true!
At the end PLEASE don’t delete it. Rotation should be fine, BUT there are evil thoughts in my head that appear because I know the human nature a little bit. Scenario like
Alpine Borderlands ON – full.
Desert Borderlands ON – empty.
Very very possible. So what we need here is bug fixes and make people to learn new ways of playing on this map. That’s it.
I have some questions regarding this post. (Link)
The quarterly update will include changes to Fractals, and among those will be changes to the tiering structure. We’ll have to retire two of the current achievements, Casual Fractal Hero and Core Fractal Hero. While we’ll introduce new achievements to replace the ones we’re retiring, any progress made toward the old achievements will not count toward the new ones. If you’ve been working toward the old achievements, you have a few weeks or so left to wrap them up.
The phrase in bold is a bit vague to me. I understand that Casual and Core Fractal Hero are being removed and will not be obtainable again but the part “any progress made toward the old achievements will not count toward the new ones” makes wonder what’s being changed exactly. Can this be elaborated on a little bit? I can make some assumptions about this, but I’d rather have more clarification.
Hi all,
This week we’re completing dev work and starting integration for the upcoming Spring Quarterly Update, which we’re preparing to launch in mid- to late April. It’s a busy week making sure everything comes together right and hits our quality bar.I know that the discussion around legendary weapons is still fresh on everyone’s mind. But as we’re locking in the contents of the quarterly update, there are some specific things I should tell you about today.

If you’ve been working toward the old achievements, you have a few weeks or so left to wrap them up.
With the quarterly update we’ll also reduce scribing costs across-the-board. Here are some of the ways that will happen. We’ll reduce material costs on recipes: for example the Basic Ink Set will no longer require a Simple Ink Set, and each Sandpaper recipe will now require less Sand. Reducing the demand for basic materials will reduce their prices. We’ll add significant new supplies of Resonating Slivers, so that they no longer serve as a barrier to scribes who don’t have a guild supporting them. And we’ll increase drop rates of certain other components. These are going to be impactful changes, so we want to give you this advance notice, and encourage you to consider pausing here and waiting for the quarterly update before doing a lot of new scribing.
Two weeks ago we polled the WvW community about Desert versus Alpine borderlands. The majority of players asked us to bring Alpine back. We’ll do that. It actually takes quite a bit of time to dust off old content and bring it up to the current game state, so it won’t happen in time for the quarterly release. Instead we’ll launch the quarterly update with improvements to Desert, use that as an opportunity to get the community’s feedback on those changes, then we’ll swap to Alpine when it’s ready. Changing borderlands maps like this will disrupt matches in progress, but we think that making changes on live servers, where everyone can test, is worth the cost.
I wanted to give this early heads-up about these areas. You already know quite a bit more about the things we’re working on for the April Quarterly Update, but I’ll stop here for now. I think our jobs are to delight you with what we ship, not with big talk or big promises. So hang tight. Release day will be here soon enough.
Mo
What about SAB Mo?
I really hope that is going to be released on the 1st…
Will you fix the recipe for amalgamated gemstones?
Looking forward to the changes.
Two requests:
1. Preview balance changes early. It is a problem and really needs focus
2. Make the work on the dev team as easy as possible for the alpine map. Keep it 100% as it was. Don’t add in any of the HoT stuff. People can go to EB if they want that.
Im not sure at all why anyone wants alpine back, those maps are so old. the new maps were way too large but atleast they were new. Its the actual lay out of wvw and what you do in it that sucks, not the new maps, but I guess people really did want that back…
- Balancing – not mentioned
- WvW updates – not mentioned
- LS3 – not mentioned
- legendary armor and backpiece – not mentioned
- dungeons – not mentioned
….So what do we get, wall of text, with nothing interesting or even needed. Typical.
WvW updates got a whole paragraph, what do you mean they weren’t mentioned?
-Balance – It is going to always happen after a pvp season. So, I would just expect it from now on.
-WvW – was mentioned
-LS3 – I believe they said it was coming out after the first raid is finished. Therefore, you have to wait for the last raid wing to come out first. Perhaps LS3 plays off of it a little? idk
- legendary armor and back piece – I would have liked to see the back piece mentioned. However, there is probably no use in talking about legendary armor until the last raid wing comes out, which won’t be during this update.
- dungeons – I agree, I would have liked to see dungeons mentioned as well. I am still hoping they deal with dungeons in this spring update.
Schrödingers Clone: PvP Mesmer
Hi all,
This week we’re completing dev work and starting integration for the upcoming Spring Quarterly Update, which we’re preparing to launch in mid- to late April. It’s a busy week making sure everything comes together right and hits our quality bar.I know that the discussion around legendary weapons is still fresh on everyone’s mind. But as we’re locking in the contents of the quarterly update, there are some specific things I should tell you about today.
In the beginning of this thread there were a lot of people saying that this is the only content.
Ya’ll should read more carefully. What he said in the post that followed were specific things about the update. Obviously that means that thats not all, that will be released. The wording is clear.
Now if I were running a business and trying to keep people, why would I want to spill all the secrets of an update a couple weeks beforehand. That wouldn’t keep people. The notion that thats not all we are going to release is a deterrent to keep people from leaving.
(edited by JmoolZZ.6251)
I don’t see why people are arguing about this. It’s very obvious that they are trying to fix both Borderlands maps. If they were just planning on trashing the Desert one, there would be no point in another feedback phase.
I’m not saying that they won’t ultimately trash it though.
(edited by Ticky.5831)
This is obviously the things we need to know before the update is out. The rest is nice to know but not as important.
He’s basically saying: Stop scribing, Finish those fractal achievements and we are making the borderlands change except it wont make the April Update.
Is it me or are onlh half the ppl able to read?

It actually says we ARE going to see changes(and a feedback phase) to the Desert BL for the update, but there isn’t enough time to ship the changes in the Alpine one in time for the quarterly update.

Its sad that I need to quote it for you really:

You must change that stupid trapper runes. Because you cant fighting a ghost. There is many ghost thieves at eternal battlegrounds and edge of mist. People can just run that thieves. Only trapper guardians maybe can fight.
Or add the game “ghostbuster class”.
You must see that video
Always same thing.

That confirms what I said.
“We’ll launch the quarterly update with improvements to the Desert…”
I completely don’t understand people here. First they moan about Legendaries, because ‘we paid for them’ now they moan about deleting Desert Borderlands. Haven’t you paid for this? I do want Desert Borderlands in the game. I paid for them.
Technically the borderland came for free to everyone, it’s not HoT exclusive as every account can play on it. What you paid for was the guild hall and it’s wvw upgrades to help screw it up.
As for the new legendaries, they are only accessible through HoT as you need to learn masteries and everything else with them in HoT zones, so yes those were paid for.
The new borderland obviously won’t be deleted, but it needs to take a break until they can work out some of the annoying issues with it, and go on rotation with the old map. Obviously this isn’t the big fix wvw needs, but it’s still one that is needed, and probably one of the easier ones for them to do. Now if they would just hurry up before the game mode goes completely dead from waiting.

Yeah half the people are able to read. Kinda obvious he’s saying changes to desert bl first with the quarterly update, then take feedback, and then alpine will ship when it’s ready.
Which I’m sure won’t be for a few months at least until they wait and see how much their “improvements” affect gameplay.
So put away the party hats for now.

Lovely information Mike, thanks for this- we will return to Gw2 when the old maps are back! //Robin & Johannes.
Far Shiverpeaks – EU – Since release.
So basically no new content of any measure? Cool.
It’s funny how ANET said they couldn’t manage GW1 the way it was (so they made GW2). Pretty evident that GW2 is far worse on that front.

Dear Mike,
Obviously there is some hate on this thread, but there are also a lot of people who LOVE the communication. I am one of those people. Please keep up the communication even if it kittenes some people off. A lot of people appreciate it.
I know you probably won’t read this but still worth a try :P
This has probably been answered many time before so please forgive the question, but why must the three borderlands be the same map and thus swapped out entirely desert versus alpine? Curious why you couldn’t have three different maps for the borderlands, and maybe some way to make sure your server wasn’t on the same one twice in a row. That way we’d have both alpine and desert plus one new one.

Probably because it’s not possible to make 3 separate maps equal in ease and difficulty of defense and attack. Since WvW is scored with winners and losers by server (and map if each is different), if one map is easier than the other two then it has an unfair advantage and that side will win more often than it should.
ANet may give it to you.
I hope this means more dailies for fractals at least. Current ones take 30min and then there’s nothing to do in game anymore.

That sounds like a reasonable explanation. I’ll bet you’re right. It’s too bad though that three different maps couldn’t be functionally similar and gameplay-balanced while still being different thematically and visually.
First they moan about Legendaries, because ‘we paid for them’ now they moan about deleting Desert Borderlands. Haven’t you paid for this?
Yeah, I did and it sucks, but I paid for something that has made WvW, one of the limited forms of end game content we have, worse.

Most people who’ve played GW2 didn’t buy HoT (a VAST majority) and those who did like myself were promised features which have not been and now will not be delivered. If you want to call me a moaner fine, but I paid for something I didn’t get. Don’t like seeing negativity in the boards? Play the game.
Unlucky since launch, RNG isn’t random

Probably because it’s not possible to make 3 separate maps equal in ease and difficulty of defense and attack. Since WvW is scored with winners and losers by server (and map if each is different), if one map is easier than the other two then it has an unfair advantage and that side will win more often than it should.
That sounds like a reasonable explanation. I’ll bet you’re right. It’s too bad though that three different maps couldn’t be functionally similar and gameplay-balanced while still being different thematically and visually.
Yup the 3 home maps need to be equal so that no can argue “well that side has an advantage this week because of X map”. Takes them a year or more to work on wvw maps, as stated when eotm map was created, and evident by the new map.
From the get go they probably should have just made 4 ebg type maps, then they could have dumped the “homebl” concept and we could have had at this point ebg, alpine, eotm, desert as the 4 maps to play on for a matchup.

“Game over man, Game Over!” – RIP Bill
It must be frustrating to spend all that time on that content and then have to revert it.
All those man hours, time, and expenses wasted when they could have been funnelled into generating new content to fix the drought.
There needs to be a better testing plan for large scale content, like a Public Test Realm. If I was a stakeholder in this game, I would be draining all my stock right now.
Because there is no viable testing plan to trial large scale group content, it seems like they are just throwing stuff out there and praying it will work. When it fails, the game is backlogged by months or even years.
That is your core problem. Until that is fixed, its more fun to sit back and watch the community’s flames of perdition raze the countryside than to actually play the game.
After so many failures, even the white knights start to see their swords rust.
I commend the team for coming out and saying that they messed up and yes they need to fix some very bad ideas that ruined a perfectly good game. But trying to undo years of damage and keep content fresh?
This is why things like legendaries are being cut, that core systems are being backburnered. It’s hard to recover from something like this.
Hopefully whoever was in charge of placing the game is this state is no longer there.
Community relations need to be improved as well. With so many failures people have no patience left to tolerate widespread and disastrous updates like Fractured or HoT in general.

kitten , that’s actually a good idea. And you could easily introduce new maps to the rotation, too

This would have been a good compromise. Even an option to have both ABL and DBL would have at least allowed people who like either or both maps options versus either cutting off one group or another. The non-forum people I have lead here have all had the same reaction of why are they pulling content they gave us.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
I hope that is not all we are getting, I have literally zero interest in any of those three things mentioned.

About the Public Test Servers, they’ve said this
(From Dulfy’s summary of the AMA
http://dulfy.net/2016/03/05/gw2-reddit-developer-ama-summary/ )
“We’ve experimented with public test servers and there are two problems for us:
1) much of our stuff is story driven, and not suitable for a public test server; and
2) the results from play patterns don’t match what we see later on live.
Instead, we developed a system we used for HoT where we can beta test characters and maps on the Live servers with a cute little personal sandbox that surrounds beta characters. We will be exploring using that tech more so we can do public-test-server-like things but in the live game, so we get real useful results back."
ANet may give it to you.

What makes you think that your particular preference is more important than those you label ‘moaners’? Anet put up a poll that came back overwhelmingly in favour of the Alpine Borderlands.
You seem to suggest that people would rather cry for the old map back instead of filling bug reports and highlighting other issues, even though the WvW forums and the DBL Beta forum have been filled with them.
The reason that people asked for the ABL back is because the core issue is the actual map itself. And that’s not something you can fix with a simple bugfix but requires a complete redesign.
I feel the fractal achievement retiring is a mistake. People do not like having things they’ve been working towards be taken away. I don’t see why they couldn’t just add the two new instead of replacing. What harm would that do?
Scribing just feels off to me. The changes mentioned really don’t seem like they would need much time to make, thus making me question why we have had to wait until the quarterly update for them.
Those gripes aside…really enjoying being kept (somewhat) in the loop for once.
Thanks. looking forward to it
good luck anet
